Unfortunately, we were disappointed in some of the food that we had so anxiously wanted to dine on again. Usually, we stick with the sandwiches, but this time we tried the Hawaiian Style Ahi Poke. We bought a pound's worth at $22/lb and struggled to finish it since it was overly sweet. It tasted more like a sugary dessert. We realize Hawaiian poke tends to be sweeter than the Japanese Shoyu poke, but this was way too sweet to enjoy raw fish. If your tastebuds lean towards savory, I would not recommend this poke version. On the other hand, the Cubano sandwiches were very good. Thumbs up on the bread too. Friendly staff. I've been a regular at Riera's for the past few months. It's conveniently close to my house, and they consistently have my food ready in just 10 minutes. My daily go-to is the burntout sandwich and chicken soup - affordable and delicious. Nick and Paul provide excellent, friendly service. Came to check this place out after reading a review in the Easy Reader. I was psyched to check it out after reading the reviews on Yelp as well. So I had high hopes and expectations. Riera's makes their pastrami on the premises. I love a great hot pastrami sandwich, so I went with that with an order of fries. The hot pastrami is topped with Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on a grilled roll. Looking at the cut in half sandwich looked very promising. The pastrami isn't pilled on high like deli's. Getting towards the end of the sandwich there wasn't any meat, it was just roll, mustard. The pastrami is indeed tasty and on the leaner side. I just wish there was more meat all the way through the nicely toasted roll. The thin cut French fries were decent. Nick, the owner, was working the register and taking orders, is very nice and friendly. I'll give Riera's another try and will check out the tri tip dip, which the tri tip is 'piled high,' only wish the pastrami was filed high. I remember going to Millie Riera's Seafood restaurant growing up. Riera's is owned by Milie's grandson. They sell Millie's clam chowder, blue cheese dressing and bread sticks! This is an awesome place to go to if you are in the mood for some sub sandwiches. Just a hot tip for people: you should have a gander at the Create-Your-Own Sandwich list as I saw that it would be cheaper for me to create a hot pastrami sandwich rather than buying the pre-made hot pastrami sandwich. In any case, the customer service is very amiable and allowed some great customization to how I wanted my order. After tax and tip, my order came out to be $11.95. Disappointed, went an hour out of my way ( LA traffic :( ) to try the Cuban sandwich because of the reviews. The bread was very good but the sandwich had a few pieces of extremely thin ham one can say paper thin slices and one slice of pork some cheese pickles and mustard. I could not taste the adobo pork at all because it was barely there. The sandwich was basically a grilled cheese with mustard. Smh, the 3 stars is for how nice the guy at the counter was which in hind sight may have been him laughing at me for paying $15-16 bucks for a grilled cheese. I know the cost of food has went up but I was left feeling robbed, hungry and angry cause I had no time to get something else to eat before going to the airport. Some years ago we tried Riera's and it was ok but one and done. Today, tried it again and holy cannoli. Met Nick the current owner and we tried the 10"Parma Prosciutto sub. Incredible! New sandwich place that opened up just around the corner from me! My mom told me it was great and to go try it out... she wasn't playing! It's mostly a deli, which is what I opted to try out. However they also have some good looking pizza selections, as well as some old family recipes that date back to Grandma's days. La Cubana: slow roasted pork, ham, cheese, mustard and pickles. All the flavors melded together so wonderfully! Prosciutto di Parma: with roasted tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and Italian dressing. Didn't have a bite but wifey said it was on point! Always nice to have a new good go to sandwich spot pop up for some quick eats. I definitely want to go back to try this pizza that looks like it has all the hype though... The Grotto Pizza! Hubby and I couldn't decide what we wanted for lunch. This place popped up on Yelp and what a gem! We got an order of fries, tri-tip dip and a cubano. Both sandwiches were delicious. But let me tell you what meant the most to me. The bread! It was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside but this is not what makes this bread stand out. The bread is minimal! Literally there to hold your sandwich together. It steps aside and allows you to enjoy all the goodness of the filling. My first time, well I've been missing out. Parking fairly painless. Enter the door, friendly inviting greeting. Order taken with a smile, no wondering what I'm gonna end up with. Get it home, the bag isn't soggy, a good sign, open up my tritip dip, comes with what looks like enough dip and in a container wide enough to actually dip it in, and napkins that aren't a joke. Dip and bite, wow really good. Enough meat in it to actually taste like a sandwich instead of bread and a trace of meat. Bread is very good, horseradish is very good. A top notch French dip. OH MY GOSH! The tuna sandwich is soooo darn good! So fresh. The bread is soft and perfectly crunchy. My co worker and I ordered to share and it was perfect size for the two of us. The Sicilian pepper spread is a must on this sandwich if you like vinegar with a little kick to it. Flavorful! The provolone was the best I've ever had! Ordered the meatball sub (pretty good), a couple salads ( standard) and a half pan of the Grotto pizza which was huge. Half of us didn't like the pizza (said needed more cheese, too messy) and the other half loved it, myself included. I have been meaning to try this place for ages! Just popped in and grabbed a Turkey Sub and I'm realizing I've been missing out! This sandwich is killer! Bread is super crunchy but not hard. Its more light and flakey on the outside like a baguette but with more substance. Turkey was outstanding and the veggies were really fresh. Super friendly and very fast service!
