Popped up on my Yelp recommendations, decided to give it a try! Stopped by here on Wednesday evening. The indoor aesthetics are very modern and clean looking. We got a seat really easily, but even for a weeknight, half the restaurant was occupied! This is a great thing to see. We ordered 3 dishes, and added 1 towards the end, for a total of 4 dishes. Shrimp Spring Rolls - more veggies in the roll than I anticipated and the peanut sauce tasted like...standard peanut sauce. What I liked was how fresh the spring rolls were. The rice wrap was still very pliable. Glass Noodles with Shrimp Clay Pot - portion felt a bit small and the cilantro garnish felt a bit unnecessary. Perhaps it was for the fragrance but I felt the spices overpowered the cilantro. Regardless, this was a wonderful dish! I really liked the glass noodles. The shrimp was also cooked to my liking. Shaking Beef - I would advise against this one, or it requires some improvement. The dish itself was very simple. There wasn't much beef to begin with and half the plate was filled with raw greens. The beef tough, very difficult to chew. My girlfriend choked on a piece as it was too dry. Coconut Milk Soup with Chicken and Toast - I felt the toast was unnecessary; didn't seem to go well with the dish unless I'm eating it incorrectly? The dish itself was yummy! It immediately made me remember the places I've eaten in Thailand. Umami was on point from the mushrooms and the soup was perfectly sweet, not overly sweet. Overall, I would give Rin-Tei a try. A bit on the pricier end for what you get, and some of the dishes still need work. I heard the lunch menu is different than dinner, so I might have to re-visit for lunch to give the pho a try! Otherwise, I'm sure Rin-Tei will continue to improve and it's a nice addition to San Mateo. Easy parking at the 2nd Ave garage and just a block away! It's a bit away from the downtown San Mateo areas, but hey, it's worth the walk! read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon, perfect for a calm brunch/lunch. Even though it's right on El Camino Real you don't hear any of the street traffic from inside. Very clean aesthetic. We had the shrimp roll, beef pho, and Tom yum for lunch. The service is very friendly and quick, the restaurant is very clean and modern looking. It's easy to miss since it's a step away from the main downtown San Mateo area but highly recommend coming to check this place out. Menu is a bit limited but I guess that makes it easy if you get analysis paralysis. The spring rolls had great texture and freshness to them, and a delicious peanut dipping sauce. The Tom Yum broth was packed with coconut and lemongrass flavor, and was full of components that added a lot of texture variety, like sliced almonds and thin mushrooms. This is an Asian fusion ( Thai & Japanese. mostly it seems) restaurant that has really high-quality ingredients and well cooked dishes. So delicious! I spilled a bit of soup on my white shirt and the server immediately noticed and brought me a wet paper towel to clean myself up. Favorite dish has to be the Tom Yum Noodle soup, the noodles were perfectly al dente and the soup was so creamy. The Green Curry was also a hit, so flavorful and warm. This is a small restaurants with good food. We made reservations for 7 people. There was another part of 7 that walked in who had to sit at the bar. You order at the front. There is limited options for vegetarians but the pho with clams was delicious. read more

The food here was phenomenal, fresh, and beautiful. The environment was clean and calming. The service was quick, attentive, and welcoming. I had the chicken and rice, and the flavors were amazing. I had their lemon ricotta cheesecake for dessert(I couldn't help myself), and it was absolutely incredible and satisfying. They were incredibly nice and welcoming.
