Empanada heaven! We visit Boulder every year and every year we return to Rincon Argentino. Friendly staff, awesome food and great service. We have tried almost every empanada on the menu. Two of my favorites are the tomato mozzarella and the spicy chicken. The three mini desert empanadas are not worth the money $6.85 for truly tiny tiny empanadas with minuscule amounts of filling. Pass on this an opt for one of their pastries. This reminds me of a little Empanada Mama in Hells Kitchen. Not quite the variety but the same quality. A must if you are in Boulder. read more

My, oh my, oh my! Visiting from CA and the vegan food is glorious! I had the wild mushroom empanada and the spinach empanada. They were so good I ordered a 2nd mushroom one. If it's your first time here, empanada are not huge and one is perfect for a good snack but maybe not a meal. What a great reason to try more than one! How have we lived here for over a decade and never gotten empanadas from Rincon Argentino?! Not coming here sooner was insane on our part. Short version: if you've not been here yet - go! Even during COVID restrictions the food is excellent and super fast. Take out is 80% cooked so you can get it home, finish baking it and enjoy it hot and delicious. Brilliant! And, 6 of the 15 empanadas are vegetarian! Longer version - We splurged and got 9 of the 15 different empanadas and three sauces. Overall, we loved most of them. We were not as thrilled with the sauces. They tended to overpower the flavor of the actual empanada. COVID take out was easy - order through Yelp. My order was ready in 15 minutes and waiting for me on the take out shelf when I arrived. The door was open on this warm winter evening and people were social distancing as they ordered at the counter. The food. Our favorites were the Gaucho and Caprese. Coming in at the next tier were the Patagonia, Pollo de Chorizo and Pollo Picante. I personally LOVES the Tradicional. My family doesn't care for olives so I was alone in that one. I can't wait to try the others with olives. We were not huge fans of the Espinaca (too much spinach and one note flavor) and the Pollo Barbacoa (I'm not a huge fan of BBQ but my hubby who is said he wasn't a fan of this one either). Regular patrons of Boulder's great Farmer's Market know this company because of their food stand, which is one of the most popular and best overall stands. The restaurant is simply awesome. Plenty of parking in a public, free lot. More than a dozen tables of different sizes, and some cool counter seats where you can watch the staff actually make the empanadas! Casual attire. Lot of outdoor seating available in our warmer weather. They likely have about two dozen empanada options, and I encourage you to explore and ultimate enjoy! On this visit, I ordered carne picante (amazing), caprese (delicious), Patagonia (my favorite), criolla (wow), and choclo (yummy). You order upon entering, and the staff will aid you and are not only friendly and non pressuring, but also know their product. You can also order to take out, and they come in pizza-like boxes. They'll give you a very cool item with a number to mark your order and bring it to your table I recommend trying all three of their sauces, as some of the empanadas go better with certain flavors and temperatures. My only wish is that Rincon Argentino had satellite locations all over Colorado so that I could stop in for an empanada whenever I felt like it... which is all the time, now that I've eaten here. Aside from the miraculously cheap pricing for the empanadas considering it's Boulder, the taste and flavor of the empanadas is astounding. Piping hot, almost too hot to directly bite into it, the meat is savory and the dough is delicious and perfectly crunchy. To be 100% fair, not ALL of the empanadas are delicious. Here are the ones I liked: - Tradicional - Carne picante (#2) - Gaucho - Criolla (#1 - my favorite) - Jamon y queso - Hongos Here are the ones I didn't like: - Pollo - Pollo picante - Pollo barbacoa - Pollo de chorizo After typing this out it seems I'm not a fan of their chicken empanadas. The beef and cheese ones are to die for though. Atmosphere is nice - place is lively and bustling so it puts you in a good mood while you're eating and chatting with friends. The patio / outside seating area is directly facing the intersection so you can even people-watch while sipping your wine. #1 traditional. Has ground beef in it. A bbq chicken and a ham and Swiss empanada. All were excellent. Get the medium salsa on the side as well. The mild salsa seems more oily and so much salsa-y. I forgot how much I adore this place until I had empanadas elsewhere. Here they are always flavorful, even without the sauce, and the pastry dough around the filling is flaky and tender. Today I tried the barbacoa and the caprese empanadas to go due to Covid 19. The ordering and pick up process was simple and straightforward. The barbacoa isn't what I was expecting, the bbq sauce was kind of creamy, although it was good. The caprese is always fabulous, full of melty cheese and basil and cherry tomato. Tonight I visited Ricon Argentino and the food was great! I tried the traditional empanada with mild salsa, and it was delicious! The staff was extremely friendly and my group received our food quickly. The palmito salad was also very good and refreshing for a hot summer day, which was a great side for my empanada. There were 4 drink options on tap and more in cans and bottles, and the cider on tap was good. The Argentinian themed decor inside was cute and gave the restaurant a fun and colorful vibe. The indoor and outdoor seating areas were nice to have the option to sit it your preferred location depending on the weather. Indoors there was a large table, which is great if you go with a big group. The restaurant and shopping plaza it is located next to is also within walking distance from a few hotels off of Canyon Boulevard, which is nice if you are in town visiting and want to get out for a walk after traveling, or don't want to deal with finding and paying for parking around Boulder. Overall, I enjoyed my food and experience at Ricon Argentino very much and would definitely come back next time I am in Boulder! read more

Service was quick. We ordered from the front and found a few available tables. This place does get crowded. My husband ordered the griolla and the spicy pollo picante, he loved the spicy chicken but not the griolla. (He has a preference with no sweet meat) I ordered the caprese and espinaca, and requested the chimichurri, salsa verde, and the asado spicy sauce. All were perfect. Loved it all!!! Man! We walked into this place and even though I've never been to Argentina, it kind of gave me an idea of what Argentina is like!! The music was lively, the walls had so many pictures of all Argentina. Culture, food, dance, sports! TV was playing a soccer game. The empanadas were yummy but they tasted even better with their salsas. When ordering, I mentioned we had never been there so I asked for all 3 salsas and there was no hesitation from the staff. The chimichurri was ok, the other two were delicious!! The red was spicier (which I loved!) but the green was also super savory. I LOVE this place! They make the best empanadas short of being in another country! The Jamison y queso is absolutely fantastic (though in my opinion needs more ham). The hinges (mushroom) is incredible. Most of the empanadas all have a different shape so you are able to differentiate them. We use them for catering a lot in my office and it is a crowd pleaser everytime!! My only complaint is they aren't open Sunday! Other than that this is an absolute boulder staple! read more

I love that Boulder now has a unique spot to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Rincon Argentino's Empanadas are delicious and fresh, there are many different options for meat eaters and vegetarians alike with some unique flavor combinations. Last time I was in I ordered the ham and cheese and mushroom- I Loooooved the ham and cheese, the dough it was baked in was buttery and flaky and you just can't go wrong with the warm ham and cheese combo! Definitely a comforting flavor, I wish I had ordered more! I also like the mushroom, but wasn't as over the moon about it as the other- there was a verity of savor mushrooms baked in an open face style empanada (not the pocket). One downside is their GF options, my boyfriend can't eat gluten so we got him the spicy chicken empanada and just weren't as impressed. The dough was okay, but the chicken was dry. I felt that it needed something a little extra. Also the filling options for the gluten free empanadas is very limited. I do love their patio, it sits under a beautiful large tree and there are lovely lights strung about. Even though you're right at a busy intersection, you feel a little secluded! AMAZING empanadas! They're flaky, packed with flavor, and will leave you super satisfied. We tried spicy steak, spicy ground beef, cheese & onion, and corn. My favorite is spicy steak, hands down! It really is spicy but not excessive, so if you love the heat you'll love the spicy steak. read more

This place was recommended to me by a friend who used to live in the Boulder area. Came here after a morning hike at Flatirons with a huge appetite. I ended up getting the Chicken Empanada Salad and the Hongos empanada after deciding that I probably should be a little healthy. The Hongos empanada is a great vegan option with a delicious filling of wild mushrooms. However, the dough itself was undercooked, and the chimichurri sauce I picked to go with the empanada was an extra 50 cents and didn't really enhance the flavor of the empanada. The chicken empanada salad was pretty yummy and had good flavors. I only wish that the lady at the counter told me that the salad dressing is pretty much diluted chimichurri, so that I didn't have to buy another sauce on the side. Rincón Argentino is a must for anyone living in or passing through Boulder. Consistently the best empanadas I've had (though I haven't been to South America), and they have soooo many varieties! If you live nearby, try as many of them as you can! Be sure to try the different sauces too! Also, there are plenty of options for vegetarians: The mushroom (hongos), spinach (espinaca), corn (choclos) are all amazing, and they recently included a vegan option with beyond meat! They also apparently have gluten-free options, because they're nice people. Their prices are super reasonable, the staff is very friendly, and it's also a nice location. I recommend getting three empanadas, which is a hearty meal for me. Though my work regularly gets catering from Rincón and one week not as many people were in town so I think I ate seven! Spicy chicken choclo: no idea what this was but best to stay away from this. The chicken was dry and unseasoned. The ingredients just didn't mesh together. Sweet trio: caramel and chocolate were good. The passion fruit, not so much. Just a note. I was excited to try this place after looking at the reviews. I was pretty disappointed. So, I have never had Argentinian empanadas. So maybe I didn't know what to expect. I thought it was going to be a crust stuffed with fillings and folded in half and sealed-like a calzone It was not. It was more like an open crust with the stuffing Inserted from the top. They were about the size of a cupcake. I'm not one of those big ones, just like a normal cupcake. We had a mushroom empanada, a corn empanada, and a side salad. The corn empanada was really good.
