The name of this restaurant says it all. It retains the warm, cozy décor (including fireplace) of its predecessor, Buona Sera, but the worn tabletops and nicked wood trim are showing their age. The menu offers a mind-boggling array of breakfast, brunch and lunch items. Would you believe 9 different kinds of French toast? If you have a reasonable request for something that doesn't appear on the menu (e.g. a grilled chicken sandwich), just ask, and chances are they'll prepare it for you. Portions are generous. The servers are always friendly and caring, and a manager is always present to greet customers and keep things rolling smoothly. I usually order pancakes or an omelet, but on this visit I ordered the crispy chicken salad. The fried chicken strips (prepared earlier) were dry, and the runny, bland ranch dressing was not as good as Hidden Valley's bottled product. Cute breakfast/lunch diner in Wheeling with a variety of offerings. Lots of places to sit and service is great. It was 6 of us and the server brought over 2 pots of coffee and the coffee was bottomless! I love the fact the coffee was at the table for us to drink without having to ask for refills. Their frittatas and omelets are more than enough for 2 people honestly. I had the Santa Monica Frittata. It looks like an omelet pie! Plenty for 2! Also came with toast. Everyone else had omelets, and one had the biscuits and gravy. They ordered eggs with the biscuits and gravy and the eggs came on the side. This place used to be our go to breakfast spot whenever we would travel up to Six Flags. While the service was fast and friendly, the food was rather disappointing compared to our previous visits. The omelets were fine, but the pancakes were extremely lackluster in flavor and texture and were extremely cold, we couldn't even put butter on them. They used to be quite magical; fluffy and a wonderful smooth vanilla and sweet taste. If ownership changed hands, the magic left with the previous owners. In addition to the lack of flavor, the blueberry pancakes did not come with compote as mentioned in the menu. Finally, please expect to pay around $20/person now. I understand times have hit everyone hard. A modest breakfast for two is now $40 at this place. Was greeted and seated right away. I had visited on a Friday morning around 8 am so there were only a few tables occupied at the time. They have a really cute fireplace open area in the middle of the restaurant with 3 seats of 2 person tables around said fireplace, which I loved! The waiters were respectful in giving us more time to look at the menu. I ordered the Mexican skillet without eggs and wanted to add green peppers. They forgot my green peppers though. The skillet tasted great, I have a low tolerance for spicy and I didn't have any issues with eating it. I also ordered the free cinnamon roll through Yelp. It was a good size and tasted fresh and very warm. My SO ordered a sausage, eggs, hash browns, and a side of pancakes. Nothing special to report. Lots of things to love about Rise N Dine. Fairly large restaurant with lots of tables. Large menu with everything from crepes to pancakes to skillets to burgers to wraps to omelettes. Service is friendly and quick. Decor is cozy and similar to egg harbor cafe. Cooking speed is very fast. Where this restaurant really shines is in the consistency of their food. Most anything you order is done well with good prices and very large portion sizes. Flavors and textures are executed well -- soups are creamy, pancakes are fluffy, skillets are hearty, fries are crispy, etc. Good choice if you live in the area. Be aware that the restaurant can get very busy on the weekend so parking can be challenging (though the lot is not really that small). However, this is really a testament to the great value and great food offered at Rise N Dine. read more

Stopped by for a quick business lunch. Greeted by the owner, and promptly seated next to the fire pit! Julio was our Server, proper, friendly and asked for our drink order. The coffee was fresh and tasty, must have been Arabica Beans from a proper roaster. A very welcoming, warm & bright location. I ended up ordering a Half Turkey Club sandwich & Split Pea soup. We were in the area and decided to try it. They had so much food that sounded good that it was hard to choose. But I ended up getting the gyro skillet. Tasted fresh and they give you a decent amount. Got some bacon as well and that was the best bacon I've had in a long time. It was a nice thick piece of bacon but cooked just right with the good type of crisp. We were jetlagged after returning from a trip and went on a crash tour of early breakfast places in the Glenview area. We liked this place the best out of the places we managed to try before we re-acclimated to the Chicago timezone. We didn't know what to expect and the somewhat neutral demeanors of the staff at 6am didn't help. But once we were seated by the warmth of a crackling fire and spent some time admiring the decor, we relaxed. Scattered here and there were other early morning breakfast-goers - a white woman and her daughter, a pair of Korean men, and others making the place at home. I had been ordering salads recently, and kept it up at Rise N Dine with a Gyro Salad. It was pleasingly fresh and the gyros were done just right, and they weren't stingy with the meat, either. My wife ordered an omelette with hash on the side, and it was also quite good. My infant son ate both with gusto, though at that point he would have been quite happy eating the food if it were blended, too, not to mention other unsavory things he's found on the floor. I had 2-3 servings of leftovers from my Anitra (roasted red pepper, mushroom, spinach, duck sausage) skillet. I liked the combination of those ingredients with my diced potatoes and scrambled eggs. 3) the steak and eggs is NOT recommended. My husband hardly ever sends food back to the kitchen, but the steak that he got did not taste fresh, so another was prepared for him, and it wasn't much better. He felt sick to his stomach. And that says a lot. 4) huge parking lot. 5) service was a little spotty, and we had to ask for more water. 6) huge menu. Plenty of choices, so you're bound to find something you feel like eating. The seating is plentiful so though it's always crowded I don't believe I've ever waited long to be seated. Updating my review: Frankly, that was a knee jerk response saying, "the owners are friendly" because that is what I have come to expect here. Somehow we got a table for four at 9:30 AM on a Saturday without reservations. We must have timed that just right. We were promptly seated when requesting a table for four. Our server was attentive throughout breakfast. I ordered a BYOM (Build Your Own Omelette), which turned out fantastic. You choose 3 regular ingredients and 1 meat. I opted for a Mediterranean style which was Gyros, Feta, Tomatoes, Onion. Omelettes come with a side of hash browns or fruit. It also comes with your choice of pancakes or toast. I opted for the pancakes because why not? I also just got done running in a 5K so I was STARVING and needed all of the carbs to refuel. The food came out quickly from the kitchen and it all was excellent. The pancakes were fluffy and easy to cut. My only gripe was the coffee, which was not my favorite. I got my water refilled constantly. We also had a pitcher of coffee on the table, so no need to wait for refills. Overall, I will definitely be back in the future. First and foremost, this place gets suuuuuuper busy at lunch. I mean the restaurant was absolutely packed today with their regular customers at noon, and it cleared out around 1:30pm. I have a feeling this is pretty typical and why this restaurant has been around for a long time. If you're planning to meet a co-worker for a working lunch, make sure you get there a little early to snag a table. On to the menu. I'm so glad my lunch partner was running late, because I always get tripped up when I open their very large menu. It takes me awhile to make a decision, which is also why I love coming here--there is something for everyone! It seems like I can never get enough of their skillets, so I opted for the America Skillet with diced potatoes, green peppers, smoked sausage, American and Swiss cheese, scrambled egg whites and option of pancakes or toast (I opted for dry rye toast). The diced potatoes were large chunks...a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and nice and hearty. They do not skimp on the meat. I wasn't paying attention and meant to order a different cheese, since I'm not a huge fan of American, but it was still worth every lasting bite. Yum! Portion size. Let's just say I could have made my order last three meals, but I just finished the other half for dinner. You will NOT leave hungry. Tip: Wear your stretchy pants. Customer service is amazing. Came here to catch up and have an early working lunch. My awesome coworker snagged a snuggly table for us to post up at for the next few hours. It was surprisingly packed in here on a Tuesday at noon! Our server was kind and came over right away to get us started with drinks. We just started with some coffee and water. He brought our coffee to us quickly and always made sure our water glasses were full. We then each ordered a skillet. I got the Greek one and my favorite part was the potatoes. YUM. They had a perfect crunch on the outside and a flavorful seasoning especially being mixed in with the onions! The skillet was missing something though I thought. Maybe some spinach or something with a bit more color? (it was probably my fault though because there were a bunch of other skillets to choose from). The skillets are also HUGE. I was eating for 15 minutes and I feel like I didn't even make a dent. Oh well, leftovers for tomorrow :) Our server constantly checked on us and was completely fine with us hanging around after our lunch. Random note: the table size for us two was plentiful for us to work on. We were both able to have our laptops open with notebooks and didn't feel crowded at all. We are visiting from NY and were lucky enough to find this place. Friendly staff when we walked in the door and were seated right away.( Saturday morning at 8:15) . Our waiter attentive and very friendly. The menu has too many options that looked so good it was hard to choose, but that we are here 2 more mornings and this is where our son wants to come. He couldn't decide between 3 different pancake options so I ordered one. He had the cannoli pancakes and I ordered the Nutella pancakes with fresh strawberries and bananas. The portions were huge! Pancakes were fluffy and really good! My husband had an Spanish omelette. It too was really good! They also have freshly squeezed orange juice, it is always great when a restaurant has that. I've been here several times and it has always been very good. It's just a solid breakfast joint with good friendly service and food. It gets really busy on weekends which most good breakfast restaurants do and parking is a challenge on those days. We drive bye frequently and always say we need to try this place and today we were very very happy we did. Parking was good at the time we went and they were not crowded when we arrived so we got right in. The hostess was all smiles and sincerely happy to see us we were seated right away to a nice table. Great atmosphere with a fireplace. We were greeted within a few min by Alicia she again seemed very genuinely happy to help us brought out poy of coffee with creamer and gave us a few min to look at menu which had a great assortment of unique items. My wife ordered the Greek Omlette and I ordered the Mexican skillet with a side of bacon. Before our breakfast came Alicia brought a bunch of napkins and said our meal would be out shortly which it was and to our delight looked and tasted fantastic! Multiple people came to our table frequently to ask us how everything was which was amazing! This is the kind of service we have only received at Gordon Ramsey Steak in Vegas! Truly amazing! Happy Holidays! This place set the jolly mood to my family for Christmas breakfast today. I made reservations two weeks ago over the phone just to make sure that they will be open on Christmas Day and that we will get a table without the wait. It was our first time at this place and I'm glad we tried it. I wanted to try something else besides the breakfast places in Glenview. The interior is nice, clean, the big fire pit is a great addition to the holiday mood in the restaurant, service is awesome and their food was phenomenal! Here is a breakdown of what we've tried today: BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST- perfect! I love making and eating banana breads and I totally approve of how they make theirs. GRAND SLAM- delicious pancakes and thick bacon... What more could you ask for?! BANANA AND STRAWBERRY HAZELNUT CREPE- You got me at hazelnut :) As usual, I did not stand a chance of taking a picture of this as my son did not waste time devouring this as soon as the plate was set in front of him. CHICKEN PESTO PANINI- Thick chicken breasts with delicious pesto dressing. Great panini! The fries that came with te panini were thick and crunchy:) JR BENEDICT - The eggs were on top of roasted red peppers and huge mushrooms. Great combination of flavors:) Overall, we will definitely go back to try other menu items. Why four stars? When we were almost done with our meal, there was something going on with the owners and a customer who was asked to give up her table for other customers who are ready to be seated and to order. A few minutes later, we could hear and see(they were at the table next to ours) the male owner chatting with customers(they probably know each other) regarding the customer who was just asked to move, and not in a nice way. Personally, I think that as the owners/employees of a service oriented establishment, it is inappropriate to talk to customers about other customers, specially when other people around can hear your conversation.
