I've been to River City too many times to count. I've been to every location along the Strand. I've always gotten a good meal and good service with very very few exceptions. I go to River City for 3 reasons: peanuts, burgers, and fries. I always eat too many peanuts.. but I always make room for my burger because they are awesome. My Shoestring Turkey Burger today was fabulous, as usual. Fries. Oh the fries. They used to be FRESH CUT, super flavorful.. just wonderful. Some crunchy, some soggy, depending upon which part of the potato they came from.. always good. Two bites into my fries today and I see they're different. Yep, they changed to frozen fries. I was crushed. They're standard food service fries.. a whole lot like the fries you get at CookOut. (the same CookOut where my entire meal is 4.59). Their turkey burgers are good enough that I'd go back just for one of those. Skip the fries, not worth the $2.29 added onto your meal. read more

I've been coming here my whole life and I've never gotten old of it. They would give you an Oreo for your kids meal and there burgers are delicious. And the novelty of cracking peanuts and throwing them on the ground is cool. read more

The place was slammed but it was a Sunday at lunch. The burgers were worth the wait and will go again. Overall, solid burger joint.

As I was walking in today about 6:00PM I asked an older gentleman (yes, much older than my 62 years) if it was any good. His reply, "it's good I'm there"! Not sure what I was expecting as I entered the restaurant, but I was not expecting to be the YOUNGEST patron in the house! As I enjoyed my delicious veggie burger and onion rings several tables of the "older" folks made their way out with assistance from each other, a cane or both, more "older" folks arrived, thereby making still the YOUNGEST in the house! Now to the "meat" of the issue, best veggie burger ever. I'd have not known it wasn't meat if I hadn't ordered otherwise! Now I gotta go back and try a "real" burger! read more

Went to River Café with our family for a burger for lunch. Fun atmosphere and supposed to be good burgers. Ate peanuts while we waited - all of us had empty drinks for at least 5 mins (and over 20 mins into our wait) and when asked for refills were told "I will get to it" and then the almost full hour dragged on while other people kept getting served (slowly as well) to then be told it was coming, then later to be told there was a mistake with our order and they could just cancel it. Then they came back and told us it was cancelled. So after an hour we left with no lunch. Was poor service and a disaster experience that could of been avoided with an attentive server or some type of leadership/management. read more

Stopped here because the building looked interesting and inviting. We lingered as we walked towards the front door looking at the decor and reading the license plates. When we stepped inside we knew by the aromas, happy customers and very friendly staff that we had made a good decision. We were immediately greeted by a happy staff member and seated at an inviting table topped with brown paper. Our waitress Kate showed up within two minutes, wrote her name on the paper. Her service was superb as was our dinner! Ice cold beer and iced tea, an appetizer of their famous HUGE onion rings started us off along with the complimentary shelled peanuts. My friend had French fries and gravy with a deluxe cheeseburger. She said the fries were delicious and the grade of hamburger was the best. Her burger was thick and cooked "well" as she requested. I had the cheeseburger with fried onion straws and a fried egg, lettuce, tomato, etc. I requested my burger be substituted with a veggie burger and I have to say I was in veggie burger heaven! Disappointed. I ordered a grouper sandwich. I ordered it seared rather than fried. When I bit into it, I couldn't taste any fish. Very small broken up pieces of fish, hardly any and it was lathered with a dark extremely SALTY sauce and this sauce was all I could taste. I can't eat a lot of salt so I couldn't eat it. They never mentioned there would be this dark sauce on it when i ask...she said there would be thousand island salad dressing so I told her no thanks on that and I would take ranch on the side. Even the fries were heavily salted. oh well,,,,,just want go back for fish, that's for sure! Had burgers at the Surfside location and was very happy. read more

Love the River City Cafe's they are always a great place to eat a must eat when we visit the beach usually 15 or so times a year. Sad news we went to the Murrell's inlet location on Saturday 7-2-17 around 1pm service was the worst we have ever had at ANY restaurant, waitress was rude and so was the manager. It was so bad I will never eat there again even if it was free!!!! read more

This place is not fancy but the food is definitley tasty. The fried mahi fish fingers are hand cut, breaded, and then fried and are wonderful. The hamburgers are excellent. read more

Very fun and relaxing atmosphere. Peanuts are great and you get to throw the shells on the floor. Car tags hang on the wall. This was our (group of four) second visit to this location. We knew the burgers were big from our first visit here so my husband and I shared a fried onion cheeseburger, fries, and coleslaw. The waitress offered for the cooks to split it in half and put it on two different plates for us. The burgers and fries are the best any of us have ever eaten on both visits. We were very full even though we shared so that should tell you how big they are. The employees are very efficient and friendly. We will be coming back anytime we are at the beach. read more

After having lunch here a couple of times over the years, we ventured on down to try the place for dinner. Lunch or dinner the menu is the same, not a bad thing. We were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken, a round of very good ice tea. We tried some appetizers, fried zucchini and onion rings. Both were great and not very greasy at all. I had a burger with Swiss and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion and mustard. Huge!! A sloppy messy, but a tasty one. Fries were good. My wife had a chicken sandwich that she said tasted great. My daughter tried a shrimp po boy that was loaded with shrimp. Lunch or dinner, give this place a try. While it may not look like much, the food is very good and affordable. read more

my wife and i went after long day at myrtle beach and it looked like a dive from the outside and was skeptical but,upon getting inside and looking around i surely thought we were back in time to a old country store atmosphere with the peanut hulls on the floor and brown paper for the table clothes.waitress very nice and knew menu.ordered hot wings and chef salad my wife a grilled chicken with onion rings and the meal was awesome! wife cant eat anything spicy always eats chicken at restaurants she stated was BEST grilled chicken she ever ate and my hot wings and salad was just as awesome.will definitely be going back to Murrels inlet to eat again.btw we live 70 miles from there but will not hesitate to go again soon and often. read more
