Stopped on the drive to Myrtle Beach based on Yelp recommendations....Burgers and Fries were great and the decor and atmosphere were fun!!

This place was just something i happen to find on vacation and I'm so glad i did. Its a small shack looking place on the outside but inside its so cool. There are license plates all over the walls to show the people that come there from all over. You can also carve your name or write anywhere to say you went there too. As a snack they feed you peanuts and to make the time there even more fun just throw your shells on the floor. The Food is just as good too. The burger I had was cooked to perfection and was so big i think i had it for dinner again the next night. This may sound a little strange but trust me its not a dirty place at all and its a good time. My wife and I have been comming here for years. Its one of those fun, funky places to eat, plus they have some of the best burgers anywhere! Inside its as funky and ecletic as it gets. License plates and other stuff all over the walls. All the tables,benches and walls are wood and you can write or carve your name on them. Your served a bowl of roasted peanuts when your seated and you can throw the shells on the floor or at each other! But the main attraction is the burgers. Some of the best burgers anywhere in my opinion. I always get the black n blue burger. Cooked with blackened cajun seasoning and topped with blue cheese. The onion rings are HUGE, good and not greasy. Service is generally good and so are the prices. Peak season you will be wating for a table, but still go. Anytime we are in Myrtle Beach its a given, were eating at least once at River City Cafe. read more

Best burgers around! Here on vaca and enjoyed great food in a fun atmosphere. Serves beer, alcohol and big menu with burgers, salads, turkey/veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches too. Unique setting with license plates covering the walls and you're able to write on the walls with sharpie markers!! Outdoor seating available on cute picnic tables out front. Two things to be aware of: peanuts being thrown on the floor ala Texas Roadhouse style so if you have an allergy beware and there is no water/marsh views. Other than that great spot!! read more

So I absolutely love this place and normally have and would give it more than 2 stars but our experience today killed it. We got seated and our waitress greater us if you could call it that with menus and said she'd be back after going back to her other table. The only other one I saw her actually waiting on. Sitting at that table were two men in their, 60's and then us two 30 year Olds and our 2 year old. The waitress came back and took our drink order along with our food order since we had already decided. Well after that she checked in maybe 3 times with the other table and not once with us and our drinks were empty. Their food came out and after I stopped her for drinks our onion rings which were our side item came out. She then checked back on the other table 2 more times. Then finally our food came out. I asked for mustard on my burger and it didn't have it, but she had disappeared again for about 10 mins. When she returned off to the other table she went looking at us and turning away. I finally stopped her on her way back for the mustard. We got it and never another look like. The gentlemen at the other table received 3 more visits and their bill. When we saw her we asked for our bill even though we were only half way through our food, because we weren't sure when we'd see her again. Boy if that wasn't our key. Apparently she thought we were going to run out on the bill or something because after that 4 more trips to our table. I don't know if it's our young appearance or what, but for the life of me I can't understand why we got such different service from the other table. One thing is for sure Sherry you made our visit probably one of the last ones to this location, and we tend to come pretty often when we're at the beach. read more

We always eat here when we come Myrtle Beach. Food is always great! Service is better! It's a bit divey but that is part of the fun. You get peanuts as a free appetizer and you throw the shells on the floor if you would like. They have tags on the wall from all over. Then you can leave your impression on the place as they allow you to write on anything in the place. Come for the food but stay for the fun!! read more

This was our lunch stop while we were beachin' it at Murrells Inlet back in Rocktober. I had read the reviews on Yelp and knew what to expect..peanuts shells on the floors, graffiti on the walls, huge burger selection..yada In short, I loved this place. The Texas BBQ burger was perfection on a bun. My wife enjoyed the Mahi Fingers. I gotta admit, they were crunchy goodness. My 1 year old slept despite the 80's rock revival. Our waitress was super-sweet and the price is def right. We will be back. read more

My family loves this place- we come back year after year. The house we stay at is next to the other location in Surfside, but due to the crowds and lack of a/c at that location we make the trip to Murrell Inlet at least once, sometimes twice, during our week-long vacation. Haven't had a burger here I didn't like! read more

Horrible experience at this location. This is the worst one for River City Cafe. My family are locals and we thought we would try this one for a change in Murrells Inlet. Definitely the smallest out of all the River City locations. Not enough staff on hand for handling a Friday evening for dinner. No air conditioning, 2 people taking care of the floor, 1 person taking names when you walk in. I commented on how hot it was in there to our waitress and she could careless. We should of left then. We ordered 3 dinners. The French fries were fried in old oil, mixed with onion rings, the fish my son ordered was over-cooked and tough to eat. I thought that maybe with our 1 hr wait and no staff or air conditioning that our sweet teas would of been complimentary..nope. I definitely am shocked how this one is being ruined by poor management. I would recommend going to any other River City cafe or if staying near the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, go somewhere else to eat. We couldn't even get anyone there to complain to. read more

We visited as we enjoyed the Murrells Inlet area last week. I ordered the Grouper fingers, and my wife ordered a burger. My Grouper fingers were cooked perfectly, and very tasty. River City Cafe has great and unique burgers. We've been coming here for years now and absolutely love it. The most recent stop was in a group of 13. We had to wait to be seated, but the outside seating and complimentary peanuts made it go quick. Our waiter and the bartender were both very nice and polite. The inside has a unique, rustic feel being covered in license plates and signatures. I'll say it again, the burgers are wonderful and reasonably priced. I'd recommend the fried Mac N' Cheese burger. Other than hamburgers members of our group had a veggie burger and grouper which were both very good too. River City Cafe is a great local joint with a mean burger. read more

This is a "peanut-shells-on-the-floor" kind of place. Honest, good food. Burgers and fries are great, but try grouper reuben.

We always eat here on vacation. The burgers are good and the beer is cold. This is a super casual place that is great for lunch. The fried mushrooms are the best and shouldn't be missed. The servers are always friendly and the portions large. During our last few visits we have noticed some changes. Some of our favorite burgers and sandwiches have been removed from the menu. The french fries have lost their delicious greasy hand cut texture and flavor but they aren't bad. Even with the changes, I highly recommend River City. read more

We just spent 2 hours at this establishment and that did not include the 30 minute wait. A party of 4 and the service was so bad we received cold burgers and fries, warm slaw, no straws, no straws, no forks and could not get a refill unless we asked numerous times. Classic, traditional American food. If that is what you are looking for then you are in the right place. Everything in the restaurant is signed by the customers that have been there. So make sure before you leave to ask your server for a marker to sign your name on something. There are peanuts to eat while you wait for your table which is nice. The onion rings are huge (another Yelp patron posted a photo) and taste great. I ordered the Black and Blue burger which tastes like the Blue Ribbon Burger from Red Robin. The fries were decent, but the coleslaw sucked! If you order wine its just cheap Barefoot in a small bottle so don't waist your money on it. I would suggest eating here if you have kids and want a straight forward American meal. Are there better places in Myrtle Beach to eat? Yes. read more

Really good burger place! Visited here on a weekend trip to Surfside. My fiancé had been several times before but this was my first time. It was very good! I had the burger with pimento cheese (Carolina burger I believe it was called) and it was delicious. Fiancé had the pizza burger and said it was really good. Pretty good service for a busy weekend lunch time. Will definitely have to visit again when we return to Surfside! read more

We come here every year, and we love it! It's cool that they let you write on the walls and all thant. I only give it three stars, because I was disappointed with the food. It of the 10 people that were in our party, 8 of us (myself included) complained that our burgers were burnt to a crisp. Being that this is a burger place, I kind of expect a good burger every time. We have come here for 30 years and will say this was the worst experience I have had. We sat down and our drink order was placed and delivered and there we sat for 30 mins waiting to place our order. Our waitress went to another table and took their order and there we sat. Finally my husband had to get someone to come take our order. After 15 mins our waitress came back to tell us they were now out of grouper fingers which they are noted. Then we sat until a waitress brought us our bill and we hadn't received our order. Finally our meal arrived and they forgot my husbands fries. Never once did anyone come and apologize for the whole mess. It was a 2 hour lunch. This is a solid 3.5 rounded up. Burgers are good but not quite the 'best on the east coast.' Great food selection and very good value. Peanuts were fresh, throwing the shells around added some sport. Very rustic, don't give a crap atmosphere, which adds a bit of freespirited fun. The only drawback I'd throw in that would make this place a solid 4 star would be adult beverage selection. All bottled beer and not a large selection. Wines didn't stimulate the others in our group, but the ice tea and pink lemonaide were good. Definitely hitting is place for a burger and yueng next time in town. read more

We have been to river city many times and always had a good experience. This time though was different. It was extremely hot in the place and service was slow and terrible. Appetizers and beers came out like 20mins after we ordered them. Our fried pickles had more burnt batter pieces than actual fried pickles in it. Asked for bacon on my burger, never got it. Waitress brought our ticket not long after we got our food which was put in wrong. We had our friends soup on our ticket. And We still wanted to order more drinks seeing as how we were not even halfway done eating. Saw other patrons getting upset with their service too. Meanwhile the manager is just standing around with his hands in his pockets not doing shit. Not helping his employees with anything or checking on customers. It will be awhile before we try river city again. read more
