I ordered a salad and what they gave me was inedible. ALL of the lettuce was totally wilted and/or off color like it had been sitting out for a long time. It also tasted off and the croutons were soggy with water or something. I'm not sure why you would still decide to serve that instead of just saying, "sorry we don't have that right now," or something. The coleslaw tasted off also and the raisins in there were neither necessary or delicious. The sweet potato fries I got were cold and clearly were pretty old too. This is getting 2 starts because the burger while technically overcooked from what I asked for was edible. I got the big island burger and the pineapple on it did look a bit questionable to me. I ended up throwing most of what I recieved away. The other people that ordered along with me had the same problems with their food. Old fries (regular kind), bad tasting coleslaw, and over cooked, but edible burgers. We ordered take out over the phone and they did seem nice on the phone and everything, but I would not want to order from here again. Nothing super special about menu or service. Sat for 10 minutes without being greeted even though a server told us where to sit. We had to approach same server who walked right past us without acknowledging our presence. Waited another 5 minutes before a different server greeted us (who also had passed us without even looking our way) took our order and eventually was cordial. Probably will not return nor recommend even though we had enjoyed a different location and had great customer service and a good experience there. read more

Wow! I would give 10 stars if I could! We ended up here after we were ignored at our favorite pizza place and quickly learned once again that everything happens for a reason. We were greeted with a smile and a joke at the door! That set the tone for an amazing experience! The vibe here is so cool! It is such a fun place to visit. Our server Katrina was beyond amazing! We had an instant connection with her and could have chatted with her all night. So often people come into your lives and you may not know the reason but you both feel it was destiny. Now for the food! You have to run, not walk here for the burgers and ESPECIALLY the Big Dawg!! You won't find anything this good anywhere in the world! The burgers are well seasoned and juicy with fresh toppings. The Big Dawg is HUGE and their chili is seriously addicting! The coleslaw is the perfect cool, crisp accompaniment. This place is always a solid dinner place when we're visiting the area. They only cook burgers one temperature but they are usually very juicy and well seasoned. They have an array of burgers with all sorts of "toppings" to choose from. I've tried quite a few and have always been pleasantly surprised. The onion rings are massive and to die for, definitely recommend trying them if you have the chance. Due to COVID-19, I wanted a place with outdoor dining and a casual vibe. I'd never been to River City Cafe, but after reading the reviews, I recommended this as our group's lunch spot. In a word, delicious! I had the burger with banana peppers, cooked medium well. It was PERFECt! My one colleague had a chili dog, which he loved because I didn't hear a word from him until his plate was clean! And our other colleague had a shrimp platter. He had to replace his onion rings with fries because the onion rings were really greasy. After his fries arrived, he paid high compliments to the kitchen. Our waitress was VERY attentive, word a face covering and gloves, and was super nice. Unfortunately, we were so focused on eating, we didn't get pictures! Trust me, it was ALL GOOD!!! Our waiter was very polite and friendly. Service was great however the food was okay. The burger wasn't the best to be honest. My husband got the Continental Burger which had bacon, lettuce, slice of tomato, mayo, and a big fat overcooked eye. It fills you up but it wasn't that flavorful. Same goes with my Swiss Mushroom Burger with mayo, lettuce, onion, slice of tomato, and I added bacon. Again it wasn't flavorful. Fried pickles was a good portion. There are at least half a dozen locations of River City Cafe in the Grand Strand, and I've had the privilege of eating at four of them (so far). I thoroughly enjoy the parched peanuts offered as you arrive. The wide variety of burgers is excellent, and I've never had a bad one at RCC. The fries are cooked perfectly and the mayonnaise based coleslaw is well balanced and very much to my personal taste. The interior of the locations I've enjoyed are all rather rustic and fitting for the style of food. I'll make any excuse to eat at River City Cafe. read more

Stopped in with 4 other friends after a day of boating. We realized that the restaurants are just opening and getting accustomed to the new regulations regarding COVID-19. We asked to sit inside due to the heat. Bad choice. The interior does not look like it has been cleaned in years forget about for Covid-19. The swinging doors leading to the bathroom were disgusting and the place just feels dirty. Everyone ordered burgers except me. Burgers came and I was told my hot dog and onion rings would be right out cause I was getting a fresh order of onion rings. (Shouldn't they always be fresh?) Anyway 40 minutes later the chili dog (which was cold) and onion rings (very hot) came out. Very disappointing. Our server was very nice and had my order removed from the bill. We've been coming to this location for years and actually drive past the Surfside location to come here. Normally this placed is a 10/10 but this time it was severely lacking on almost every level. We were seated in a front area in a small booth for our party of 7 in front of a window air conditioner. The general appearance of the place looked dirty. There was water leaking from the ceiling onto the table behind us and the high chair we were provided seemed as if it had never been wiped down. None of us were willing to try the bathrooms based on how the rest of the place looked. Food orders took over 30 minutes despite us being one of the only groups in the entire restaurant and half of the orders were incorrectly made as platters. They presalt your fries which tasted as if an entire shaker of salt was dumped on them. My aunt has a heart condition where she needs to watch her sodium intake so because of this her fries were inedible. When asked about getting them without salt she was just told by the waitress that's not how they make them. The waitress never came and checked on us, we had to flag her down (if we could get her attention away from her phone) for drink refills or anything. The burgers were good but halfway through mine I realized it was raw in the middle despite the waitress asking us all if a temperature of medium-well was fine. The grilled ham and cheese sandwich was supposed to have smoked sliced ham but just looked like the "smoked" ham lunch meat you get from an Oscar Mayer container at your local grocery store. Two of us ended up getting GI symptoms (N/V/D) a few hours after eating here. Coincidentally we both had burgers with blue cheese on them. Overall I would probably return to River City because their burgers are so good but I definitely wouldn't return to this location. read more

Well, the blooming onion and fries were good. We should have had a clue when our server didn't ask how we would like our burgers cooked. Husband's Texas burger was dry and well done, such a disappointment. I had the knife and fork burger which was topped with about 1/4 cup gravy with sautéed onions and mushrooms, hardly impressive. I doubt we will go back- we wanted to like this place but it fell short and there are many other better burger places in the area, where the burgers are juicy and cooked to perfection. We absolutely love this place. Every time we come to our home down here we gravitate to this spot. I recently had three of my friends here and they loved it also. Two of them tried the Doritos burger and one had the Cheetos burger, I had the burger with the egg on it ! Each burger was cooked perfect and the onion rings are to die for. The ultimate burger shack! Many, many combinations of burgers and toppings. Choice of fries, sweet potato waffle fries, or onion rings for an extra $3. I ordered the burger with fries and got the burger exactly how I ordered it (rare) and a huge serving of fries. I also tried the onion rings which were BIG but more breading than onion, which is not my thing. Server was GREAT, literally running from table to table to take orders and made e sure the food was to my liking (which it was) after I had a bite or two. Very nice and attentive. Fun for a burger and bloody. This restaurant is owned by the Divine Dining Group and they really put a lot of effort into running a great place for some fresh hot food that satisfies. I stopped in with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and it was perfect. All the wait staff are very friendly, welcoming and just nice. Sat down right away and had a very good bloody almost immediately after ordering and to my liking. I am a little picky and like light ice, lemon no lime, not spicy etc... and it was perfection. I did the regular cheese burger with onion strings and a basket of fries. My friend ordered a turkey burger. Everything was so fresh, lovely prepared and delicious. I love a good burger and this place aims to please for sure. It was also packed and that is always a good sign. I've eaten at the spot in Surfside Beach. It was good. Tonight's dinner wasn't nearly as good. The burger was great! Service was also good. My problem was the onion rings.
