This place is one of those drop in and see what happens type places from the outside but let me tell you what you get on the inside is good! Laid back, family friendly, kids can color on the table paper type of restaurant. Amazing burgers, good kids options, and yummy drinks to top it off. Went here last night with my mom, sister, and 2 year old. Perfect place for kids because they have a good kids menu and brown paper on the tables for kids to color on. I brought my own crayons though which cake in handy because no crayons were offered to us. I didn't ask though, they may have them. All the adults got burgers and we were happy with them. Only downside is the place was a little dirty. They allow peanut shells on the floor and there's graffiti everywhere which brings it down a notch. After reading some of the other reviews, I was excited about trying this place. But, I have to say it was a-ok, but not great. It is definitely a peanut-shell-on-the-floor dive. But, the place has character. We started out with the mahi fingers because the other reviewers raved about them. Plus, the server said the fish was fresh, hand-cut and breaded in-house. Sadly, I thought the breading was way too thick and they were a bit on the greasy side. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. I was also tempted to try the onion rings since others had written about them... but when I saw how ginormous the rings were (table beside us ordered them) I decided to pass. Those onions looked seriously scary.... I have never seen such a huge onion ring in my life - it took the guy at the next table two hands to lift and eat that thing! So, after being slightly disappointed with the mahi fingers, I decided to go with a turkey burger and hand-cut fries. The turkey burger was ok, nothing to write home about. The quality and quantity of food is good. However, beware of the mac,n cheese burger. They use Kraft mac n cheese and it's not very good in my opinion. Ok so I was excited about this restaurant but it let me down alittle. The double burger I ordered was pretty impressive looking however the meat was not seasoned if at all. The sweet Asian chili sauce drizzled on it was the only flavor really. They were nice thick burger patties but just meat flavor nothing else, it needs seasoned! There is a usually a good size crowd but if you want to beat it you can go a little earlier. The food has always been great. The fried pickles are some of the best around anywhere. They have such a great selection of appetizers, burgers, chicken and salad. Don't want a bun, tell them to leave it off. Want to add something to your sandwich, tell them and it is done. We we're lucky enough to be served by Tiffany on our last trip and she was awesome! Very pleasant and we never had to wait for anything including refills on drinks. Every time we have been there the service was great. So if you are south of Myrtle Beach in the Murrell's Inlet area, GO to River City Cafe. You will be glad you did! read more

This is another must stop early in our trip to the beach. Even though there are other locations of this business, we feel the food at this location is the best. This was a lunch stop after a very light breakfast. We both had the cheeseburgers, which we believe are the best in the area. And the fires covered in melted cheese and crisp bacon bits, ooh to die for. When we first went in we noticed there were no peanut shells on the floor and were concerned that they didn't have them any more. But our fears were allayed when the server asked if we wanted a bowl of peanuts, and of course we said yes. But we didn't throw the shells on the floor, we just made a neat pile on the table. This place makes a believer of the phrase, you can't tell a book by it cover". I have a feeling many people drive by and not stopping because of the exterior décor, but word of mouth does a good job of getting people here. We usually eat here every time we are in town and it's amazing but this will be our last visit. Our son who is autistic was not having the best day at lunch. He was being a little loud he yelled a couple of time "I am angry" My husband knew that a melt down was coming on and was getting him to leave the restaurant with him when a worker came up to him to say "People are complaining about your child" why bother adding this stress when we are removing him from the situation? Why be so insensitive to a family that has a great deal on their plate? Yes he was loud, we own that we were taking care of that. Other tables were loud I can tell you four conversations that were going on around us but I didn't complain. That's part of going to a restaurant. Please talk to your staff about patrons with disabilities and their families and how to treat them with respect and how to use kindness and sensitivity when working with them. read more

We make a point when planning our vacation to add this to our dinner plans one night. They serve fantastic food. The onion rings are SO good. If you're not into those, try the sweet potato fries. It's casual, it'a fun, and it's a decent price to the amount of food you get. We always have at least two boxes in our group to bring home. We had a server that acted like she really didn't want to be there, but the food made up for it. The main downside is there ate no beers on draft. But that's acceptable. Very little wait time. My husband and I went to River City in Murrells Inlet on October 16th for lunch. We were greeted by a gentlemen who informed us it was his first day and it would be a 20 minute wait but it would be worth it. We waited and waited and waited. My husband ask the man and he said he already sat the Freemans and we let me know that we were the Freemans. The server sat us and we waited and waited and waited and finally got our drinks. We then ordered and I ordered the house cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, mayo and onion, my husband ordered the carolina ccb without the slaw. When we finally received our burgers I had no tomato and his was covered with slaw. The food was not good and the server was good but overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting. It was not a good experience. We have been going there for years and even ate there as we were leaving for our honeymoon. read more

After spending all day reading in the sun I didn't feel like a "dining experience" so much as a good chow-down. In light of that I decided that the Murrells Inlet location of River City Cafe was the perfect place to get my chow on. Pulling up to the restaurant, my companions were a little apprehensive - the parking lot wasn't super full. I urged them on, however, saying that Yelp seemed to like it therefore they would too. Happily, I was right! We started out with drinks (they don't have a full bar exactly - no vermouth, but enough stuff to make their sweet special drinks); I had something called a "Cherry Delight" (cherry vodka and cranberry juice) and it was just as sweet as it sounds. I don't think that it was worth the $6 they charged for it, but that's the way of mixed drinks I suppose. Along with the drinks we had the blooming onion - it was what you'd expect, maybe a little spicy. Everyone had some permutation of a burger, which is only fitting given that the restaurant is known for its burgers. I ordered the RC burger and was pleased with the ginormous size of the beef patty and the way it was cooked (the waitress didn't ask us our preference of "doneness"; I usually go medium rare on burgers, and mine was more on the medium side of things tonight.) The seasoning on the meat was good if a little salty, the toppings generous. I liked that the fries were a la carte as I usually don't eat them, and definitely didn't need them with my behemoth of a burger. The decor is charmng in its cast-off liscence plate way - I'm kind of sorry that I didn't have a Sharpie in my purse so that I could add my name to the legion of others that swarmed on every markable surface. Food is served in red plastic baskets and on flat tin plates; styrofoam cups abound (unless you order a soft drink - those come in a novelty cup adorned with the logos of the Divine Group's joints.) If you're looking for a good burger wrapped up in faux-dive kitsch, this is a great place to be. read more

I came to this exact spot for burgers with my grandparents 24 years and our most recent visit was just as great! I even spotted the seat I sat in as a child and had a "giant burger". The food is great. There's numerous burgers to choose from but I stick to the all American cheese burger. It's massive and messy, just the way a juicy burger should be! The soda and tea comes in souvenir cups and there's several shirts available for purchase. The sides are great, such as Cole slaw, fries, and onion rings. This most recent visit was made even better by the sever named Tara. She was super friendly, was genuinely interested in her guests and even told us where to get the best seafood in the area. My crew and I happened upon this place back in the 90s, and we were immediately sold. The shabby, low-rent ambiance had me feeling right at home. This is the first place I'd ever been that encouraged thowing peanut shells on the floor ( this was before Logan's Roadhouse was a thing). This particular location had been a residence at some point in the past, and the walls are festooned with donated license plates and grafitti. On to the food: they offer a big variety of burgers, all good (my daughter-in-law gave hers a rating of 8 today). Meanwhile, thier deep fryer pulls heavy-duty cranking out onion rings, fries, chicken fingers, shrimp and all manner of deliciousness incliding my favorite - Grouper Fingers. When I'm back in the world next week, I'll be dreaming of that grouper. Top all that off with the service we got today from our lovely waitress Jessica D, which was super friendly and attentive. I highly recommend River City and have made it a "must visit" Grand Strand destination since the Clinton Administration. read more

Visiting from out of town. More than a few people told me this was the place to go to for a great burger. I am glad I took the advice. This place makes a fantastic burger. The meat seems fresh and had great grilled flavor. I was never asked about doneness as a result was more medium well, but it was still a great burger. I had the Cheetoes burger and it was great. The Fried Maccaroni and the peanut butter burger were also fantastic. Next time we are in Myrtle Beach we will go back to River City Cafe. read more

What a fantastic place. I ordered the Kitchen Sink burger and it was just incredible. If you are reading anyone else's post and they don't give this place a 5, skip their review, the person is a complete liar and cannot be trusted for any sort of review on any sort of food under any sort of conditions, ever. Ok, the fries were hand cut, perfectly salted, perfectly cooked, overall, just fantastic. The Kitchen Sink burger was massive and the overall meal was the best meal I had while in Myrtle Beach. We came to the Murrel's Inlet location because we went to the Brookgreen Gardens (that's a cool place to check out, Google/Yelp it if you are in the area and don't know what I'm talking about) and wanted a quick bite to eat. On a side note, I generally eat pretty healthy meals and when I deviate from the salad for lunch, etc, I usually get the squirts. The best part of this meal - you guessed it! NO SQUIRTS AFTERWARDS!!! After taking a break from the Brookgreen Gardens (more on another review), we pretty much stumbled on this place fairy tale style as we headed back to the house. This is my kind of place - quirky, rough around the edges with a rugged charm. First off, the service was outstanding. Our server was friendly, but not "server-like." Meaning, she made us feel at ease, wasn't pushy and was patient with our two little ones. I wish more servers were like her. As for the food, my wife and I split (because it was our vacation - don't judge us!) the S'mores Burger. This ridiculous concoction included a burger, peanut butter, marshmallow creme and Nutella. Our server (being nice) asked us if we wanted the Nutella on the side. Normally I would have just said, "give us an extra dose of Nutella," but I opted to be polite. Let's just say it was one of the best food combos I've ever tasted - and while it's not health food, it was a perfect vacation treat. All of us left the River City Cafe happy. read more

I've been coming to River City in Murrells Inlet for several years now. It is a great place to stop on 17 Business if you are passing through the Myrtle Beach area on your way up or down the coast. The best thing on the menu USED to be the Grouper Reuben sandwich (blackened), but on my most recent visit I noticed that it has been removed from the menu. It's a good thing that just about all of their other food is delicious as well, otherwise I may have been supremely upset! They have an assortment of delicious burgers, decent prices, and I have never been disappointed. Sometimes the service can be a little bit slow, but overall the waitstaff is efficient and friendly. Next time you are in the south Myrtle area you should definitely swing by, even if it's a few minutes out of the way. read more
