Hello! If you are like me and really like diner dining, then you have to try River Oaks Cafe. My daughter and I had breakfast there recently and found it to be top quality breakfast vittles. I had the chicken fried steak with three eggs and hash browns and just to make it truly ridiculous I added a short stack of pancakes. Mmmm mmm mm! Marvelous and I was a satisfied hungry bear. This dining experience was a pleasant surprise. This café is in a very unassuming strip mall. I arrived at 8:45AM on a Sunday and the place was already packed. (That's always a good sign.) The waitress was friendly and checked in with me the perfect amount of times. She was also happy to answer questions. She explained that pancakes were "huge." I pieced together a breakfast for myself from the side dishes. I ordered one pancake with pecans, one biscuit with gravy on the side, 2 sausage patties and an egg over easy. Exactly as the waitress stated, the pancake was HUGE. Honestly, it was larger than my head (hmmm...,did I just insult myself...LOL!) The pancake was loaded with pecan pieces. Most places stiff you on the pecans in pancakes, but not this spot. The biscuit was moist and yummy. Everything else was good as well. They even have good syrup which I slathered over my pancake and biscuit. Breakfast dishes are large and reasonably priced. I had leftovers! The décor is truly "American diner" all the way. The space is clean, no frills basic tables, chairs, and booths. One wall is actually covered in carpet (yup, carpet)....I'm not sure why, but I found that to be interesting, so figured I'd mention it. The kitchen is open. You can see into it. There's also a small bar for seating at the kitchen area. There is a large parking lot as well. If you go for a weekend breakfast, be sure and get there before 9:45AM or expect a wait, but it's worth it. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place. My 1st time here. The meatloaf lunch was okay but kind of dry. I also had an order of their famous onion rings which were large individual rings well seasoned and very good. I got a whole order of 8 onion rings and at $9.00/ per order that's over $1 per ring. Not a very good value in my opinion. With tea and gratuity my lunch was $25. I'd like to try their catfish ... but I don't think that I'll be a regular customer. read more

I've had this cafe on my list for a while but can't believe it took me so long to try it out! My experience started off great just from calling in my order. The lady on the phone was so sweet and was helpful as it was my first time ordering from here. I immediately got the at one vibe from calling in. Upon getting to the restaurant I was greeted by a very respectful gentleman at the door who quickly went to grab my order which was ready in about 10-15min from after placing the order on the phone, really fast! The pancakes are HUGE and are full of pecans but not too much, just enough. The biscuit was delicious and the omelet was sooo good too! We've been visiting this home away from home since February of this year. We have enjoyed so many of the items off the menu. Truly something for everyone. I could rattle off a list of things I love or enjoy sometimes. However, your best bet is to just swing through any given day of the week and grab the special. Coffee is always hot. Doubt you'll regret it. The service is both friendly and familiar with a smile always. They enjoy what they do here and it's obvious. Breakfast is served all day and that's what I had in mind. Center cut pork chop with 2 eggs sunny side up, hash browns with onion, biscuit and gravy. Before we even ordered, Heather came an placed a little complimentary treat before us....bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. Delicious starter. My with had the breakfast taco with spinach and eggs. My husband and I have loved the ROC for years now. We both worked nights and would go have an end of our day meal here several times a month and were never disappointed. We went today with my Mom who also loves the restaurant. Everything I have ever had here is delicious. Today I went wild and asked for a Benedict with a fried egg instead of poached and WOW this dish was so impressive! Small town down home cookin' just like mama used to do! Dont expect a five-star dining experience, and you wont be disappointed. I dont think elegance and high-class is really what they are even aiming for though, and they dont try to hide that either. They are quick, yummy, and affordable.. and ya get what ya pay for. On top of the great service from their team, River Oaks Cafe offers a large menu with a wide range of options for both breakfast and lunch. Each day they have a special, and if you haven't had them all you need to! The team at River Oaks Cafe does an outstanding job on speed and quality of food/beverages. As soon as the host/hostess seats you, they get your beverage order, that way you don't have to wait for your drink. (I love getting coffee in a different mug every day!) In addition, I've never (no matter how busy they are) had to wait for my meal longer than 10 minutes. Considering how fast their meals come out, you would expect less than perfect, but it's quite the opposite. Everything is fresh, always cooked right, and if it's not to perfection, they will fix it immediately (sometimes without you even asking)! The River Oaks Cafe is a sweet place for home cooking breakfasts and lunches. It could very well become one of the places you become a regular at. The menu has what you'd expect - a large variety of choices for breakfast and lunch (I'm told the pancakes are fantastic - they sure are big!) We were there about 130pm for lunch on a Saturday and ordered the hamburger steak (smothered in grilled onions and peppers and brown gravy). You're offered the choice of a couple of sides and I had the squash casserole (yummy) and the fries (standard). I enjoyed the hamburger steak and think it could have had some seasoning on it, before they added the brown gravy - it didn't appear to be anything other than just ground beef. The service was fantastic! Our server had the great personality you hope for in a hometown cafe, and her menu recommendations were spot on! The prices are quite reasonable and there was no wait for a table when we arrived. There were 3-4 other tables filled with diners. I look forward to returning to try breakfast. This place is legit! We are a family of 4, kids are 9 and 10. Old school diner, super nice staff, excellent breakfast - no attitude. Leave Sundance Square for a real find. We visit FW all the time (from Dallas) and we always look for a new breakfast joint. We were tired of the Sundance crowds and overpriced meals and we decided to venture out. Just 5 minute drive we found the ROC. 5 minute wait as it was packed. Crowd was a mix of older locals, a few hipsters and some families. Totally friendly and prompt staff. Loved the mixed coffee cups. We all had different breakfast which included chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, scrambled eggs, hash-browns, toast, biscuits and bacon. Salsa is homemade.
