What a great little place in Memphis. The ambiance and decor is comfortable and chic. Service was fabulous and food was very good. I had the salad with big juicy pan fried shrimp. The 5/5 was because the bar and selection of bourbon was amazing. They had some top shelf bourbon including a selection of Pappy's!!! If you are in the area and want good food and drinks - check this place out.

River Oaks is classy restaurant with quality food. I tried their "jumbo" crab cakes and pan seared halibut. Surprised that the two crab cakes were not larger than two meatball and is a bit misleading to call them "jumbo" as how they are served in other parts of the US. The pan seared halibut is a well balanced entree with a high quality piece of fish, perfectly cooked green beans and homemade fried potatoes. I love that both appetizer and entrees are well balanced with protein and greens and vegetables.

Caramelized Salmon with Cauliflower Risotto. Sooooo good!

I'd call this a true fine dining experience. It can be a special occasion or a quest to have delicious food prepared by amazing chefs. The moment you step inside, you're welcomed by an atmosphere of sophistication and elegance. You can tell the chefs here are well-trained and take pride in their craft. One of the chefs, and this is the really neat part, painted a massive, breathtaking fish painting that's a centerpiece in the restaurant. It's like having dinner surrounded by art. I mustn't forget to mention the salmon. It's so succulent and perfectly prepared that you'll swear it's the best you've ever had. And for those who are health-conscious or just looking for a unique twist, the cauliflower rice is an absolute dream. It's a testament to how this place blends classic elegance with contemporary tastes. So, there you have it, River Oaks Restaurant - a fine dining establishment that's like a time machine back to the refined dining experiences of yesteryears. They've got a mix of the old-school charm and modern culinary delights that'll leave you with a truly memorable dining memory. Bon appétit!

The food was very good, my entire family enjoyed their meal, and the waitress that our table was very nice (he deserves a promotion immediately his name is) (Ahmad) he was very attentive and literally the best waitress I ever had, my experience was the best here 10/10

    Chocolate Dessert, yum!

My wife and I celebrated last night where she enjoyed a chicken dish with beet salad. I had what I consider the best tuna I've ever eaten and it was perfectly prepared. Warm chocolate dessert was awesome. Photographs are attached for your review. Pleasant atmosphere where the service was great. This restaurant is easy to pass by and I don't recall any advertising. I assure you we will return. Though pricey, this was a wonderful meal. Thanks, River Oaks!

Chef Jose is a genius. This restaurant is absolutely stellar. We were lucky enough to dine in the private room. The set up was welcoming and cozy. Our server was charming. The food was incredible. Truly. And the presentation was gorgeous. The salmon appetizer, jumbo lump crab cakes, scallops, the duck, the filet, the apple purse for dessert. I can't say enough. We had one vegetarian in our group, and she was well catered to by our server. We were a lively group of 12. We ordered different wines for each course, and our eyes popped out of our heads at each pairing. This was my first trip to Memphis. Shall we return, we shall seek out Chef Jose!

Baked Brie with that amazing rustic bread

My take away impression is Meh. The food is really hit and miss. The tuna tartare was beautifully presented (as are all the dishes) but completely void of flavor. We also had baked Brie, short ribs, and tuna nicoise, key lime pie for dessert. The only thing we ate that night that was anything approaching outstanding was the rustic cranberry & pistachio bread served with the baked Brie. Everything else was just standard fare, not a place I'd go to again to drop $200.

Would rate 0 if possible based on service & lack thereof. I spent a week traveling in Memphis for work and had a semi free day on a Friday. In the midst of an errand filled morning I thought to begin planning my lunch around 10:30 considering most establishments open at 11. Good restaurants answer their phones whenever any staff are present and even better ones provide quality service whether business hours are present or not, yet BAD restaurants give customers and potential customers the exact attitude they allow & facilitate in house no matter the hour or occasion. Having never visited River Oaks but often passing and seeing it come up on Yelp I thought to call and inquire about their burger as I'm always on a quest to find the perfect one to suit sporadic cravings. Upon calling at 10:30a a woman answered the phone and I asked if they serve a burger, what is the price and what is it made of. She hastily said "We don't open til 11" to which I replied "I'm aware yet I'm trying to decide where to eat for lunch". She again repeated "We don't open til 11, YOU CAN CALL BACK AT 11", with a harshly disrespectful tone. She stated that her name was Melanie and I thanked her for helping me decide where NOT to EVER eat at. What a disgrace to humanity! Subsequently I called The Butcher Shop in Cordova moments later and was met with EXCELLENT phone service and an even greater experience once arriving. Their burger & service was impeccable. So glad I went there!

First time visiting for lunch it was very good the Chef's TV dinner changes daily and the fish is fresh and was brought in today. Excellent!

I took my girlfriend here for our one-year because we wanted something more special than our usual date night spots for our special night. As far as special goes, the service and the grandiose of the hotel as a whole really delivered. Sure, if you look closely the Peabody will show its age, but I've never been anywhere more opulent. We came here for the experience, not just the food. But the food was great, too. In particular, the elk and scallop dishes stood out to me. My girlfriend's favorite was the beef. The ingredients were high quality, often local, and the plating was exciting. We particularly enjoyed eating the palate cleanser and chatting with Chef Keith in the kitchen. All in, I was out $575 for the experience. Local fine dining offers similarly good food for half the price. If you're only interested in the food, you'll find better value elsewhere. Went with my mother and sister while we were staying nearby attending a wedding party in Bartlett. Read about Catherine and Mary's online and decided to give it a shot based on pics and reviews. As soon as we stepped inside we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home. I must say here that my sister has a small disorder such that it's hard for her to talk in complete sentences, and she has a notable stutter. This means she also experiences a great deal of social anxiety. She felt so welcomed that she hardly stuttered while we were there, and when we left she said, "This was such a good place for people like me." Five stars simply aren't enough. This deserves twenty…read more My husband and I are food people. We travel extensively, we eat everywhere, and we've been fortunate enough to have some truly extraordinary dining experiences over the years. So when I say that Porch & Parlor may be one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've ever had, that is not something I say lightly. And it started before we even made it through the front door. The restaurant itself is absolutely charming from the outside -- whitewashed brick, Southern, understated and beautiful. But before either of us could even reach for the door handle, a gentleman appeared with the warmest smile and opened it for us. Such a tiny thing, perhaps, but it immediately set the tone for the entire evening: You are our guest, and we are delighted you're here. Inside, three lovely attendants greeted us at the front, all smiles and genuine Southern hospitality. We had reservations and were seated immediately in the most gorgeous, moody dining room. Elegant lighting, beautiful raised paneling, rich finishes -- classic steakhouse without feeling stuffy or predictable. As a miniature artist, I spent an embarrassing amount of time mentally figuring out how I could recreate those fabulous light fixtures in miniature. And then came Wade. For years -- and I mean years -- my husband and I have had a benchmark for exceptional service: a wonderful gentleman named Seth in Birmingham who was exceptional at what he did that we still talk about him. Well, Seth... you finally have competition. Wade is an absolute gem. Charming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and incredibly intuitive, he possesses that rare ability to actually read a table. He listened. He remembered. He made recommendations without ever making us feel "sold." He helped my husband choose a bourbon, shared little tidbits and stories with us, picked up on our personalities and genuinely connected with us. And the timing of this meal was impeccable. We never once felt rushed, yet we never found ourselves wondering where the next course was. Nothing arrived too quickly. Nothing lingered too long. Wade was there exactly when we wanted him and somehow invisible when we didn't need him. The entire evening just moved along smooth as silk. That kind of service is an art, and Wade has it. Of course, none of that would matter if the food didn't deliver. It absolutely did. The steaks were phenomenal, the meal was incredible from beginning to end, and oddly enough, that fabulous bacon rack may be one of the things we talk about forever. It's delicious, ridiculous, memorable and exactly the sort of thing you want to order when you're out having a wonderful evening. By the end, we were far too full for dessert -- which naturally meant we ordered dessert. My husband knew exactly what he wanted. I was torn between two choices, so finally I told Wade, "Go into the kitchen, choose your favorite and surprise me. I don't even want to know what it is. I'll find out when I get back to the hotel." The man understood the assignment. He chose the cheesecake, and good heavens. It was lighter than a cloud, with these gorgeous cherries in a rich syrup whose tartness cut through the creamy cheesecake beautifully, alongside vanilla ice cream that somehow pulled the entire thing together. I opened that box back at the hotel and knew immediately that Wade had once again made exactly the right call. But what really makes Porch & Parlor remarkable is that Wade wasn't the exception. Every single person we encountered -- from the gentleman at the door, to the front desk, to everyone who touched our table -- was gracious, polished, welcoming and genuinely lovely. You can serve an extraordinary steak in a beautiful room and have a great restaurant. But when the hospitality is every bit as exceptional as the food, you create an experience. Porch & Parlor did exactly that. We were told this was considered one of the very best steakhouses in Tennessee. After dining there, I completely understand why. In fact, forget Tennessee. This is one of the best steakhouse experiences we've had anywhere. And Wade, if you happen to read this: Seth held that title for a very long time, young man. You earned this one. Five stars feels woefully inadequate. Give them twenty.

I'm showing pictures of what they called " full size salad" which was pathetic. I alerted the server and he took it off the bill, but it doesn't change the judgment. Chicken breast with two little puny looking legs. I don't even think they were legs. And the chicken breast was totally dried out. Disappointing and really unacceptable. I'm being generous with two stars on the food. Brussels sprouts were sickly sweet. I know they can do better. We sat outside, but normally we sit inside in a very lovely dining area or area near the bar. It was hot as heck outside but the table was available.

I had a fantastic espresso martini and the best brussel sprouts I've ever tasted! So I was excited to come try something else. On the plus side, the bathroom was so nicely decorated. It was also very clean. I sat at the end of the bar, beside the little section of books. The bartender was nice. I ordered the Ember&Passion cocktail. Although it was pretty good, it was quite mild. Unexpected with the ingredients in it. I was surprised that the level of expected heat was not very detectable. I give it 7/10. When I came here before in the winter, the temperature was perfect and I don't remember being too bothered that they don't have cocktail napkins. But yesterday it was quite warm in the restaurant and not having these napkins wasn't good. Nobody in the restaurant had any type of napkin under any drink! I noticed that just like mine, every glass of water from every patron had a puddle of condensation under the glass. Each time I picked up my glass of water, it would drip onto my food and clothes. My two menus got so wet. I suppose they made this decision to save themselves a lot of money. As for the food: My parmesan truffle fries were excellent!! Hot, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle. Best I've had in a long time. The Alabama white sauce on the side was just your typical sauce. It tasted just like every other Alabama white sauce that I've had so was not disappointing. But I actually ended up not using it because it was too thin and it didn't add anything to the fries. The fries were excellent enough on their own. I ordered my burger "pink" but there wasn't any pink to it, but I wasn't that bothered about it. Burger and the toppings were tasty, except for the fried green tomato. Looking closely at the picture, you can see that it was SO SMALL compared to the size of the burger. When a restaurant does that, don't they realize that it makes for a glaring disappointment?! It apparently came from near the end of the tomato, and not the middle. If you are going to offer a fried green tomato on a burger, then I feel as if you should only use the larger slices of the tomato, and save the smaller ends for maybe putting in salads. I've always been obsessed with fried green tomatoes. After having my first two bites of burger and still not reaching the tomato, I took it off to eat by itself. Sadly, it tasted terrible! I was surprised. Obviously, they didn't season the tomato or the batter. (Salt and pepper go a long way.) The burger toppings apparently made the tomato batter not only soggy, but also this strange thick texture. Like mushy and chewy at the same time. 1/10 Worst problem: FLIES!!! So many flies! When I just had my drink but no food yet, I noticed them but was not bombarded by them at that point. It wasn't until my food came. All of a sudden I was literally surrounded by them. They were everywhere! No exaggeration. I actually had to use only one hand to eat and the other hand to constantly move back and forth over my food. I eventually gave up and set the plate of some of my fries about 4 inches in front of my burger in order to hopefully draw the flies to the fries so that I could eat my burger. Unfortunately, after only four bites of my burger, when I set it down to take a drink of water, a fly landed on it within one second. Obviously, that was my last bite, and even when I was moving the plate closer to the end of the counter, two more flies landed on it. The glass of straws was inches from me. That, and the book closest to me seemed to be where they gathered to wait for their opportunity to dive bomb me. So many of them! It turned my stomach when I realized that I had been drinking from a straw with my water and I'm sure there had been flies on it before I got there. Every person that gets a straw in their drink at this restaurant has had a fly sitting on top of it. When the bartender told me about the desserts, it turned my stomach to think of just how many flies were in the kitchen. Had I known the fly situation was that bad when I first got my drink, I would have never stayed there, and I certainly would have never ordered food. I do think it is a real shame because the winter months are a totally different experience in that restaurant. But because of how horrible it was this time, I just can't ever come back.

I was seated fairly promptly. I asked for a teaspoon for my coffee (was provided a soup spoon). The server didn't remove the 2nd table service until I was 1/2 way through my meal. This restaurant is upper mid 'quality' yet the table service provided a "diners" coffee mug instead of a cup and saucer. I asked, and got, cream with my coffee (not packages). I don't eat pork--there are no non-pork meat options. The menu (and server) represent the croissants and muffins as "fresh baked." I think the croissants are store bought nuked, they're a bit soggy and became rubbery as they cooled (not buttery/flakey). I ordered my side of eggs over-medium and they arrived over-hard. The breakfast, is over-priced. The location and ambiance should/could be exceptional. I'm clearly disappointed. (They might want to look at The Capital Hotel in LR for ideas.)

We ate about a 3rd of our food because we knew we wouldn't get refunded and since we all had something different I don't think it was a situation where there was a problem with just one dish. It was all very mediocre for the price. We won't be back and know why the dining room was mostly empty on a Friday night. I mentioned this to server and she said she'd let chef know but I doubt she did and if it did it wouldn't have made a difference if this is best they could do.

Our server Catelyn was fantastic-positive, friendly, eager to accommodate special requests and helpful in pairing wines. We loved the creative approach of ordering flights of both wine and food! The Boursin stuffed filet, sea bass, Ribeye, Au gratin potatoes, oyster topped deviled eggs were prepared perfectly and especially memorable. We love sitting in the booth by the window on the lively main floor. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique, upscale dining experience in downtown Memphis!"

Alright, lets get into this…read more.. Walking in I was pleasantly surprised...Flight is in a tough location because parking isnt exactly ideal but as soon as you walk up, a hostess opens the door and welcomes you in. I didnt get photos of the restaurant but they have a really cool split floor design, we got to sit upstairs. I recommend you sit upstairs it possible because the first floor gets louder faster if that makes sense. Plenty of very attentive and friendly staff so you will need for nothing while you are there. Now for the food...we started off with the SNAKE RIVER FARMS WAGYU CARPACCIO. It was . My only critique if I had one; I wish it had a little more carpaccio. Now before I get into entree's let me explain how "Flight" works...You can order a single large entree for dinner, orrrrrrr, if you're like me and LOVE food, you can order a flight of three smaller portions of the entree's! Bring your appetite (and your platinum card). I ordered a three entree flight of Bison Ribeye, roasted duck breast and the chilean sea bass. I would rank them in that order although they were all delicious. That bison tho.... The wife ordered a three entree flight of the prime ribeye, sea scallops, and the twin lobster tails. She wasnt a huge fan of the prime ribeye, she said it was a little tough. She loved the scallops and lobster (although she will never forgive herself for dropping a huge piece of lobster on the floor). Oh and her scallops came with this gnocchi that was TO DIE FOR!!!! We finished the night off with a three dessert flight of pistachio mousse, lava cake and apple walnut cobbler. The pistachio mousse was light and refreshing on a hot summer day. She loved her apple cobbler. We werent huge fans of the lava cake. It just didnt have that nostalgic lava cake taste and texture. That and the peppermint gelato it came with was very strong on the peppermint. Im sure some would love it but it just wasnt for us. Last piece Ill mention is just the effort and attention to detail. It was our anniversary and they brought us complimentary glasses of champagne (thank you). They are very deliberate in how they move, their table settings and our server knew her restaurant like a pro. Even down to the way they stage your silverware knowing how their flight plates take up table space. Bravo, Great experience! Definitely a little too pricey to be a frequent spot, but great for special occasions!
