UberEats order I'm a very big fan of their chicken sandwiches but these breakfast sandwiches are DELICIOUS!!!! I only wished that it was served at all of the locations because they're so good. However, it was packaged with care and arrived at a good time. I ordered my favorite, the club biscuit. Best described as a juicy piece of chicken placed on flaky yet buttery soft biscuits, topped with some cuts of bacon, tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. SO divine! The breakfast potatoes were a bit too salty but I saw the vision that they had and the serving was generous. Overall, I love these breakfast biscuits because it gives me a chance to indulge in their delicious chicken at breakfast lol how good is that!
As someone who loves a good buffalo chicken sandwich, I've got got to say that it's sometimes difficult to find a pure buffalo chicken sandwich - not a Nashville hot, hot honey, anything like that. I love that Roaming Rooster has a variety and has a chicken sandwich for everyone's taste buds. Service is always friendly at this U Street location. I think you get a good amount of food for the price too. I always come hungry and end up feeling like it's a struggle finishing up those last few bites. Chicken always tastes fresh, fries always taste fresh. There's a bit of seating at this location, but this is one of the rare sandwich places you can take to go and it'll still be good when you get home. The price point is pretty economical too, for the area. I'm a big fan of RR and love my occasional visits for a chicken sandwich!
I was near this location and decided to give it a try. Parking was a hassle--only paid street parking available. When I entered, the restaurant was empty. No one was taking orders, and I had to wait for someone to come to the register. I ordered the honey butter chicken biscuit, and it took about five minutes to arrive. The food was fresh and hot, but I'm not sure I'll visit again because of the parking and the lack of customer service.
My uncle recently passed this recommendation on to me for my stay in D.C. and I had to go try it! When I say this has got to be top 3 best chicken sandwich spots I've ever tried :) Service was smooth and food was out in less than 15 minutes. The one we visited was pretty small and had very little seating but that's okay, we ate here for dinner and enjoyed the rest of the night! Sorry Chick fil a, lol
Serving perfectly crisp and juicy chicken, Roaming Rooster is worth trying at least once. I've eaten at a few locations and recently ate at this one after seeing a production nearby. Though I dined around 10p the customer service was still efficient and friendly. If you're looking for delicious bite on U street I recommend stopping here for either the Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich or the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (my favorite). Not a lot of seating but big enough for a few couples and small groups.
If you're craving fried chicken sandwich look no further. This place has the best fried chicken sandwich in DC. It's a fast food style of restaurant. Lines can be long sometimes depending on the time of the day. My favorite is the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and fries. It's nicely spiced with lots of flavor. Crispy from the outside and tender from the inside. You will hear the crunch when you get your first bite. Ambiance can be slightly off sometimes. They don't have a cleaning staff cleaning the tables all the time. So sometimes we have to grab some napkins and clean our table. Price is nominal. I am glad they also started breakfast sliders. I have tried sliders a couple of times and I liked it.
I stopped into Roaming Rooster for the first time today and was blown away at how delicious the chicken sandwich was. I got the honey butter (chicken with honey butter and cheese). The chicken was super crispy, and I loved that it was dripping in butter. I also ordered a chocolate shake which was fine, nothing special. The inside of the restaurant wasn't dirty, but could definitely use a paint job and some pictures on the wall. It was sloppy looking. Overall, this place is super expensive since the sandwiches don't come with fries. For a shake and a sandwich it was just under $19. I want to give 3 stars but that sandwich was too good. Go for the sandwich.
I'm always looking for good halal chicken spot, and DC never fails. The food came out fast and hot. Each sandwich is $10, but it's filling. My husband and I were only able to finish half. The other reason for that was it was SPICY. We did pick hot, but we're not expecting such a kick. You can pick from mild all the way to extremely hot. I do consider myself someone who can take the heat, but I would precede with caution. Overall, if you're looking for a halal chicken spot in the DC area, this place is worth a visit! Warning: all the traffic in DC is ridiculous and a lot of the road were closed when we went to just be careful!
We came here for a quick bite before meeting some friends at the 9:30 club. It's a clean, cute quick service spot with reasonable prices. We went with the OG Nashville and honey butter sandwiches to share with a side of fries. One side of fries was more than enough for us and I love that you can choose the heat level for the sandwiches. We did one mild and one medium. I like spicy and my husband likes things a bit milder so the medium was a good combination. It's still spicy though so if you're sensitive to spice, I'd go with mild The sandwiches were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We really enjoyed our meal and thought the price was extremely fair if not cheap. Definitely would recommend Roaming rooster if you're craving a good fried chicken sandwich!!
I had heard this place has one of the best chicken sandwiches ever and I could be bias since I'm a southerner growing up on Chick-Fil-A since I was like 4-5 years old back in the early 90s. I must admit, this was a d*mn good chicken sandwich! The fries didn't make the picture because I ate them. No explanation needed there. I was shocked at how fast we got our food because the place was packed, but it was quicker than expected. From the pickles to the sauce that the sandwich comes with, I'm more than pleased. The parking for the area is DC parking, since it's off U-Street. It wasn't too too bad though. Will be coming back next time I'm DC.
I've heard a lot of great things about this place and for me who doesn't really like chicken to give it a try is pretty amazing. Food is super messy so get ready with a bunch of napkins The honey butter had a great taste to it. I don't think the rooster sauce tasted like much. And if you like spicy like me go with extra spicy. I don't think the spicy was hot at all. I love the coleslaw isn't saturated with oil it's very well done and has a fresh flavor to it. A lot of nice outdoors seating in this location as well
Very nice place for chicken sandwiches. I was not disappointed. The sandwich was moist and they gave a generous amount of dipping sauce. There were also electrical outlets by the tables (a plus in my book). The people who were working here seem nice as well. Only problem is that there were no recycling bins for the recyclable items (as of this writing). Otherwise, all else was good. read more

Decent take on the Nashville Chicken Sandwich! We like our food spicy, but not overbearing that it drowns out the flavors, and the only description the cashier could give us of the level 3 "spicy" is that its spicy. We ended up going with the level 2 "medium" spicy and it was just okay in spice. Next time I would go for spicy for more kick. The fry was delicious. The chicken was a not as moist as I would like, but still very good. We got the OG Original and the BLT. Both were very good. We got medium for both, but it seemed like there was less spice on the BLT than the OG Original, so spice amount was not consistent across multiple sandwiches. We also got what they described as in house made lemonade, and it was very yummy - although they refused to offer refills even though we ate in. Overall, kinda pricey, service was just okay, but yummy food and drinks! read more

I have heard a lot of good things about this place so I had to check it out. It was a small place but there was some seating inside and out. I got the OG Nashville and decided to try the hot. The hot had a nice kick to it but was not overwhelming with heat. The chicken was a little dry but they had siracha mayo and I added that to it. Not a bad sandwich at all, probably the best non-chain chicken sandwich in the area. Definitely worth checking out. read more
Wow - I picked up takeout from Roaming Rooster last night and I can't believe it took me this long to try it. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich which was topped with coleslaw and pickles (I requested extra pickles and they delivered). I appreciated that they allow you to choose the spice level. I chose medium and next time I would probably go with hot - there wasn't a huge kick to it. However, the sandwich was still extremely flavorful and I loved the slaw on top. It was huge too! I also ordered a side of fries which had a large portion size as well. All for $14 with tip, I believe. I think this place is well on its way to being my favorite takeout spot. read more

Chick Fil A is my usual go to spot for fried chicken sandwiches but I decided to try somewhere new. The sandwiches here are delicious and a good filling size. I got it to go and it still tasted fresh and juicy after my 20 mins trip back home. read more
I'm lucky enough to live right above Roaming Rooster so can run down and get it literally whenever I want! With that being said I've basically tried every sandwich, with every combo of toppings and there is not a sandwich I don't love! My favorite sandwich is the honey butter sandwich with added pickles to add some tang to the sweetest. I get this sandwich with no heat, even their mild option packs some heat! I also loveee their Buffalo chicken sandwich and I always add coleslaw and pickles to balance out the spice, this sandwich is perfect! And of course I get some fries, which are the yummy soft, salty kind and sides of honey mustard and saracha mayo. They are still currently carry out only and now have a little window area indoors to order, but you still have to wait outdoors for your food. The pick up process is pretty easy and usually takes about 10 mins - much faster and more organized than during the first month they opened! I will deff be back again soon! read more
Hidden jam in DC for amazing halal burger. Place is nice and clean and service is super fast. We tried the OZ and Honey burger and both were great. I would recommend honey with hot - trust me the sauce and hotness will not spoil the taste. I ended up coming back here again for second dose within a week during my trip to DC read more
Very good spicy chicken sandwich and a good value for the money, not as advertised. I ordered a spicy Nashville Hot Sandwich. There was a lot of of chicken, it was really flavorful, had pretty good heat, and had an excellent crunch. But it was not a Nashville Hot Sandwich by any stretch of the imagination. I wasn't expecting Hattie B's in DC, but this was no where near the mark. Moral of the story, really solid sandwich and I would go again. But it got my hopes up and let me down by not having the Nashville hot flavor read more

I'm visiting from out of town and went to this location based off the reviews here on yelp. I got the fried chicken sandwich (no spicy) and I thoroughly enjoyed it along with the fries and sauces that came with it. The slaw on the sandwich is not your typical; it was good and refreshing. Winner winner chicken dinner! I've never heard of Roaming Rooster until my fried-chicken-loving-husband told me they opened a second location in DC. I've never been to the original location but we decided to check out this location since we were in the area. Online ordering was easy enough, received a text that our order was ready, and ate it in our car. Correction, devoured it. I was in the mood for something "plain" and ordered the fried chicken sandwich. It was a solid chicken sandwich but nothing *too* special. (It may also be because we've been spoiled with trying Nashville hot chicken sandwiches in Tennessee). But hot damn, the honey butter fried chicken sandwich was monneeeyyyy. It almost had me singing Drake's, "You the best I ever had, best I ever had." It was messy, delicious, finger-licking good. We also got a side of coleslaw (not pictured), which added a nice fresh crunch. Glad they opened a second location, definitely won't be roaming around for a good fried chicken sandwich joint! read more

Oh my gosh, this was my first time trying roaming rooster. I had heard all about it, but there's nothing better than sinking your teeth into a spicy fried chicken sandwich. Though it was a bit busy, food was served fairly fast and restaurant who is fairly clean. read more

So I'm finally trying them out for the first time but I am a bit disappointed though and I've not even received my food. EVERY one in the kitchen is Hispanic. What an oxymoron in my opinion. True, its black owned but not operated. Are there only Hispanic cooks at the Bladensburg location also? My food was just "okay", nothing special or extraordinary, just basic fried chicken but that's not why I even went. I don't even eat fried chicken or fried foods any more. However, I wanted to support a Black own and [operated] establishment and due to rave reviews from my apartment maintenance man. I'm glad I finally tried them out thought, now I know I wasn't missing out. Kudos to him but a 100% Black staff would've been so awesome. That's what I call keeping it in the community. There are tons of Asian owned and operated carry outs in the area and you won't see a non Asian cooking even though they're appropriating our culture when it comes to certain food options.. Three stars because it is a Black owned business on U Street and the lady taking orders is simply adorable. It's only two blocks away from where I live and every time I walk by with my dog it's always crowded. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the food but that didn't matter because what was most important , I was supporting a Black owned business. Especially in today's climate it's challenging for us Black folk yet alone own and maintain a business.. I swear I wanted to rave about this place but the very pretty lady with locs taking orders was simply adorable and extremely courteous. read more

Roaming rooster is a great staple in DC. Some of the best chicken sandwiches you can get. The chicken is always super tender and I tend to get the honey butter fried chicken sandwich With siracha mayo!!! The only thing this place is lacking is adding Onions lettuce and tomatoes to the sandwich. Side not the fries are very subpar. It seems like they fry there fries in large batches and serve them but over the many times I have ordered from roaming rooster I have never gotten fresh fries :( that is the only thing wrong about them. read more

This place was really good! I wish my chicken was a tad but juicier but I'm definitely going to come back for another try! I got the honey chicken with the spicy sriracha mayo sauce I think lol - and it did not disappoint! The fries were crispy and soft at the same time, the sandwich was filling, and luckily it wasn't too cold outside - we grabbed a table and enjoyed our sandwiches fresh! I recommend trying them out and supporting! I know I'm coming back! read more

3 stars for the take out experience. Lines outside to order in a little alcove then you step back out to wait for number to be called. DH had Nashville hot and asked for it plain( no ketchup, pickles, etc) but got it as is anyway. He said it had a good flavor to it. I had the Honey Butter in mild. Pity the crunch was lost on the 30 min drive home. But it certainly had a nice tang to it that the honey butter sauce overflowing on it complemented nicely. I wouldn't do take out again, but am looking forward to being able to eat it hot and fresh in store. read more

I've had food from here twice now -- once in October 2020 and once a few days ago. I tried the honey butter chicken sandwich (medium spice) and the fried chicken sandwich (mild spice). The first time my friends and I got food from here, our sandwiches were HOT. We got two medium sandwiches and two hot sandwiches, and all of us thought that they were _way_ too spicy. The chicken left a lingering burn in our mouths and made our stomachs hurt. After that experience, we thought that the chicken from Roaming Rooster was just supposed to be that spicy. The second time I went, I didn't want to die from the spice -- hence the mild chicken sandwich. The second time around, my sandwich wasn't spicy at all! I was expecting some spice since the medium one was so spicy the last time I went (mild is one level below medium). My friend ordered the hot honey butter chicken sandwich, and he didn't think it was spicy at all. The sandwiches themselves are okay. For $9+, they feel a bit lackluster and overhyped. Customization options for the sandwiches are very limited, and the inconsistencies in spice levels is enough for me to not want to come back. It's also pretty difficult to find parking nearby... the next time I want a chicken sandwich, I'll probably just get a $4 sandwich from Popeyes. If you do end up coming here, I'd recommend ordering online ahead of time so you don't have to wait when you arrive. read more

My daughter loves the club chicken sandwich. She wanted me to try it. So we ordered it extra spicy and we also ordered the wings at medium spice level. I had to eat the wings first. 3 normal sized wings laid on top a piece of white bread and either 3 or 4 sliced pickles laid next to the bread. The wings were nicely fried and were not greasy. I commented to my daughter that the color was very red which made me think that it may be spicier than a typical medium. Yep, it left my lips tingling. The flavor was concentrated in the coating as chicken meat was plain to me. I admit I don't like to sauce my wings. I did not dip them in the honey mustard. I did like that it was not too salty and the coating was not too thick. It didn't eat the sandwich right away as I was full from the wings. There was a good amount of chicken in the sandwich. The little bit of lettuce had wilted so there's no crunch contrast. I ate half saving another half for another meal. Even though this was extra spicy, I felt less heat from the chicken. Most likely it was tempered by the bread and fixings. I tried the chicken by itself. It was spicier than the wings but not by much. May be because I ate it cold while the wings were still hot. At the end of the day, I'm just not a chicken sandwich person so for me it was okay. Would I order from here again? Yes, I would order the wings at mild. I want to taste flavor not just heat. Plus, This place knows how to fry. The chicken were moist, and not greasy with just enough coating on the chicken. read more
