Interesting cafe in petosky downtown with varied and unique options of coffe plus breakfast options as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I happened to be in neighbourhood and stumbked upon this amazing place, just oerfect for morning coffee.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up taking mayan boot to head cold coffee for the drive and autum sunset hot coffee to sip while strolling around near water bay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was crowded place where many were seated for morning breakfast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Glad to find many savory breakfast options in the menu. I love the place n might come back again when I happen to be here

My partner and I were craving a BLT when we were wandering around downtown Petoskey and stopped into Roast & Toast for a sandwich. I got the soup and half sandwich combo. I guess I should have known that it was self-service soup, but I didn't, and that was a little disappointing but I ordered the BLT and soup, and she told me where to get the soup. I felt awkward and didn't feel like I could change my order and just kept with it. I then got the wrong sandwich, I think she misheard me, but the cook was kind enough to remake my sandwich for me and it was remade really quickly! It was super kind that he remade the sandwich without question and it was delicious! I didn't love the soup but that was not a huge issue. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is fully counter service and the vibes inside are definitely a cafe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I feel like there are a ton of spots in Petoskey that I want to try but this was nice for a quick bite.

Not very often we get to Petoskey, but when we do this is our go to spot! Great sandwiches and soups that are filling. They had a feature sandwich which blue cheese and bacon that I split with my husband we equally enjoyed every bite. I had their special Cherry Coffee Latte...yummo! They are busy as they make from scratch. The avocado toast was good and light but the Denver Breakfast wrap was perfect and hearty! My sis bought me the coffee container mug which is perfect for keeping coffee nice and hot for a couple of hours! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice long space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathroom space is tight though[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]].

Curated and photodocumented the venue. Seems like THE popular coffee house and lunch joint in the city. Food - Many options offered -- soups, sammies, salads, desserts, and many beverage choices including espresso options. Look for the "Order here" and "Pick up" in neon lights. Service - Decent. Engaged. Yells your order when it is ready for pick up. Ambiance - Extroverted. Loud. Energetic. Most look happy. Townies and tourists. Observed students and solo book readers. Seats about 40? No outdoor seating. Loo - Stocked. Could be tidier. Parking - Street or hike from a lot. Overall - Copacetic.

We stopped in at 11:15 am on a Wednesday and it took 30 minutes for two overpriced sandwiches! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is chaotic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will not return!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Passed by this cafe while on a bike ride and was instantly drawn to it by its beautiful appearance on the outside, only to be blown away by the inside!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place really surprised me with its amazing interior design![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I just ordered a coffee but I do plan on coming back for the delicious food I seen around me! I would highly recommend coming here for a lovely breakfast or lunch!!

I popped in here today to have a quick bowl of soup while my mom and sister were shopping at the book store. I was pleasantly surprised. The soup was GREAT! I had chicken Avacado soup it was fresh warm reasonably priced and delicious. Was definitely homemade. They had 3 other soup options to choose from on this day including vegetarian options. The sounds serve yourself so if you cannot decide when you're ordering you can decide once you see them . I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

The cookies here are marvelous. The service is fast, friendly, easy and best of all cheap! Their princess peach chai is delicious and a very nice selection of stuff along with summer drink specials. There is free WiFi and a lot of indoor seating. I wish there was more outdoor seating and free parking.

Roast & Toast - in line to order before finding a spot to sit!

Slow service and all 3 workers we communicated with were rude and it made it seem like us being there was an inconvenience to them.

Oh how I wish this place would have been better. It's a…read morecute place and our server did a great job overall. Those are the highlights. My friend ordered the kabob dinner and said it was good...but over $20 for some veggies is crazy. My gyro and truffle fries....honestly I should have just sent them back. This is one of the most disappointing meals I've had recently. They put a tomato paste on it that I almost requested without, but trusted it would be interesting. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. The lamb meat itself had a decent taste, but the way it is served makes it difficult to eat in a pita. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee. Doesn't bother me as I always tip at least 20% but no one pointed that out and I'm not really sure what it's for. Does that go into the servers pocket or? Won't be going back to find out.

Well I couldn't get a reservation in the fall so my girlfriend and I tried again while taking a ski trip to Boyne Mountain . Yes, The location and ambiance is fabulous . We were graciously greeted and sat at table # 1 right by the windows looking out to the frozen lake truly a great table. Our waitress Janice a local greeted us and was very nice. Janice did a great job going through the menu which I will added the prices were very fare . The wine and cocktail list were also impressive with a wide offering in price and choice. We decided on a Malbec to start. Then they brought out a the welcoming taste of salmon pate on a cucumber which we both found to be very tasty . After reviewing the menu we chose to bypass an appetizer for fear of just getting too much food and not finishing our dinner . After I told my girlfriend how good whitefish is in Michigan we both ordered that instead of the salmon or short ribs that also looked enticing. . Before our entree was served we had the warm bread and garlic butter that was terrific and tempting to eat the whole basket . Our dinners were served very quickly even though the restaurant was sold out . As we took the first bites of the white fish I was extremely disappointed . The breading had absolutely zero seasoning or flavor . The fish was flaky and cooked perfectly but the breading was completely flavorless taking away from the fish. Neither of us finished the dish and my girlfriend tried adding salt just to get some flavor but it didn't make it any better . I was going to order dessert but we were so disappointed after our dinner we chose to bypass dessert . . I did order a coffee since they didn't have cappuccino. I will say the coffee was very good , but what good restaurant doesn't have a cappuccino machine . As a side note the bathroom very nicely decorated in old wine box shingles on the wall and was very clean . I gave 3 stars simply because the Walloon Inn has been around so long and highly acclaimed as one of the better restaurants in the area. This was very disappointing . I may come back with my business partner and hope my experience will be better . Until next time .

This site mentions three things to consider when giving a review: food, service, and ambiance. I…read moream going to cover these three factors, but in the order that I perceived their importance at this restaurant. First off is ambiance. What I liked best about the ambiance was the music. It was pleasant and, most importantly, quiet enough to allow easy conversation with your fellow diners across a table or booth. Second in importance to my wife and I during our most recent visit to Southwoods was the food. My wife got the cod and shrimp special and said it was the BEST cod that she had ever eaten - and she loves her fish - and that the shrimp was also very good. I also felt the liver and onions were among the best that I have ever had. And the quantities were great - with both my wife and I taking half our meal home to eat for dinner this evening - and the prices were more than fair. But, most importantly to us was the service! We were served by Libby and she was FANTASTIC! She took care of all of our requests, and kept our glasses filled, while never being intrusive! On a scale of "10", I will give the ambiance and the food the maximum score of 10", but - ala the movie "We Ate Spinal Tap" - I am giving Libby an "11"! I almost said "rewarding Libby with" instead of "giving", but I feel that we were the ones rewarded by her service. We have eaten here before - though not often enough - and will continue to do so. Southwoods is definitely on our list of go-to restaurants. And, we sincerely hope that EVERY time we do dine here, our server will be Libby!
