Have been here for multiple occasions....unfortunately the most recent was to celebrate my father's life at his funeral luncheon.....Food= good as always, from my experience they do a decent job with large groups making sure the food is up to par and comes out fast. Service= leaves a lot to be desired.....without getting into too much detail, there were some major issues with service last month. To keep a long story short we will just say wine service (open bar charged on consumption) was VERY PUSHY and uncomfortable, watching the waiters overpour wine to jack up the bill was actually comical, we had running bets as to how high our waiters would fill our glasses. There were empty place settings being filled. Guests with full glasses wouldn't even sip their wine, and low an behold here comes the waiter to "top them off".... Overall, this isn't even the biggest issue. After notifying the OWNER a few days after the event and being apologized to and told that there would be a gift card coming in the mail to compensate, it has now been a month and no sign....1) didn't contact him to get a free gift card, just to let him know what happened and that it was b.s, but if you're going to offer it you should probably follow up.....2) if you are going to apologize and insist on making things right, you should probably do so, not just lie and try and brush people aside....weak... read more

Had dinner here this past Saturday evening. Overall, it was excellent. Dining room is well appointed but a bit dark for my taste. It was difficult to read the menu with such dim lighting. The menu is very large with the dishes titled in Italian. However, the food description is in English. Appetizers (calamari and a meat/cheese/olive plate) were delicious. My entree was CAB Scottata which is basically three fillets in a wine sauce (house special). I ordered it medium and it was more pink than I wanted but in the end it was delicious. Beer selection was limited so I opted for Sam Adams. Wine selection is huge as one would expect at an Italian restaurant. Full service bar also serves your classic drinks. Passed on desert and opted for coffee instead. Outdoor patio looked quaint. Carryout orders are available at a different entrance. Verdict: I'll be back. The drive from the south side of Chicago to Elmhurst was easy (294-Roosevelt-Spring Road). The neighborhood is impressive. Friendly bar conducive to conversation. Elegant surroundings but butcher paper on table was disappointing. My husband and I enjoyed our house salads, the lasagna, pasta rotollo and the spumoni. I grew up in Elmhurst, and now live on the north side of Chicago. I love pizza. Who doesn't? Everything in Chicago now seems to be Neopolitan or Deep Dish, no in-between. No good old fashioned cheese and sausage. Saucy, perfect crust, that kinda pizza. Roberto's is the greatest pizza of all time. You heard me...greatest pizza of all time. If we visit family in the burbs, we call and order it par-baked and take it home. It is crack pizza. The crust is the best, the sauce is perfectly seasoned, and the sausage is homemade (essential.) I usually order mine "extra-sauce, well-done" to get the little brown spots on the cheese. (I think my sister-in-law invented that, thanks Megs.) The restaurant is also good, used to be better though, and the prices have really gone up. Still a good option in Elmhurst because the downtown area is filled with pretty boring restaurants that just seem to fill a niche. Like, "we need a greek restaurant, let's open one called Kalamata." We are in the process of moving back to the Chicago Metro area and are settling in Elmhurst. Came up to meet and work with contractors and we were looking for a neighborhood restaurant to call our own and finally found one!!! We walked over to Roberto's for dinner on Sunday May 29th and we were pleasantly surprised since the Yelp rating is only 3 Stars. We were seated right away on the outdoor patio with a great view of the Prairie Path. Our server Sam greeted us and quickly got our drink orders. My wife and I shared a bottle of Pinot Noir that was quite tasty and our twins each got something they enjoyed. We started out with the mussels appetizer that was as good as any other we've had. The mussels were pretty big in size, steamed just right and man the garlic butter sauce was so tasty. We just wish restaurants would learn to serve the appetizer with a spoon so that those like my wife and I would be able to finish off the broth as it was just so yummy that we did not want to waste any of it. For my dinner, I started out with a caesar salad that was just as tasty as always any where and I followed that with the Grilled Mixed Seafood that had shrimp, calamari, lobster, scallops and octopus!!! The flavors were so good and I even brought home my leftovers and enjoyed them without reheating them!!! Beautiful char flavor and the right seasoning that was very pleasing!!! My wife had the veal saltimbocca for her entree as that is what she uses to judge how good an Italian Restaurant is. My wife was also very happy with her dinner and impressed with the portion size. She enjoyed her leftovers as well the next day!! Our children were happy with their meals as well. On top of that I determined a couple of days later that Roberto's also delivers. I ordered a pizza for my children and I which was quite tasty as well. Looking forward to eating some of the leftovers from the pizza when I have a chance this week after my family heads back to Omaha to finish getting ready for our move to Elmhurst. love, love, love Roberto's! I first fell in love with Roberto's when I got introduced to their pizza. We get carry out from Roberto's often (about 4x a month!), and I can definitely say that their pizza is amazing! I'm not really a fan of thin crust pizza, but I will make an acception for Robertos. They offer a variety of toppings (italian beef topping is one of our favs). If you choose to dine-in, their menu is definitely one which impresses- check our their daily specials-especially their stuffed artichokes!! Personally, I've ALWAYS been impressed with their "risotto of the day"..we've always WISHED we had room for dessert, unfortunately- haven't had the pleasure of enjoying such a treat! read more

Who would think that the absolute best Veal Saltimbocca I've ever had would be found in a neighborhood joint in Elmhurst? My family dined there for my son's engagement dinner. It was PERFECT! Vito was wonderful. Patricia was our server and she was excellent. They brought champagne perfectly timed with the appetizers for a congratulatory toast. The dinners, most of us had steak, were delicious and done to perfection. Near the end of our meal they surprised us with tiramisu decorated with raspberry sauce in the shape of a heart. It truly feels like you are among good friends when you are there. For bland Italian food in Elmhurst, there is no option finer than Roberto's. We knew we were in trouble when we were the youngest people in the restaurant by two decades. The host asked us where we wanted to sit. Having never been here before, I had no idea where to sit, and the host didn't even try to make a suggestion. The food ranges from ok to lackluster. I've had better calamari out of the freezer - and given the texture of the breading, it probably was frozen. My risotto was a little watery, and my wife's penne in vodka sauce tasted had less flavor than a Marie Callendar frozen meal. It's especially disappointing that you're paying decent money for such mediocre food. Our waiter however was very kind and dutiful. The highlight of the evening was him greeting us in Italian. THE RESTAURANT It's a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny. My wife and I don't have much money with which to go out, but when we do, we often choose Roberto's though it stretches our budget a bit. It's the best Italian I've ever had. The service has, at times, been a little slow when they've been operating at full service, but we never mind; it's a great place to relax and just enjoy date night. The rotolo alla rossini is my all-time favorite Italian dish, and their carpaccio is one of our all-time favorites too (the summer special carpaccio being possibly the best). The entree specials we've ordered have been fantastic, and my wife loves anything with their vodka sauce. I highly recommend. It's better than Francesca Amici's, that's for sure. THE PIZZA When I met my wife, she said Roberto's was the only pizza she and her family orders really. I was, of course, skeptical. Then I had it. It's fantastic. Came here for Valentine's Day. I was shocked at how many tables they cram into this place. My husband basically had to sit sideways on his chair because the table behind us was so close he couldn't put his chair back any further or he would be bumping into the person behind him. The outdoor garden cafe off to the side of the building is adjacent to a park and you can see all the passers by like a European Cafe would. Amazing food! I have eaten at a lot of Italian places, here and in Italy, and this place is good. From the appetizers to the soup, from the salad to the pasta, everything was top notch. I kick myself for not going here sooner. I avoided it due to the star rating here on Yelp but i have been noticing that they aren't always accurate. Some of the reviews on here for this place are ridiculous. If you order something that contains an ingredient you don't like and it's plainly listed on the description, that is your fault not theirs. we had a reservation here at 6:30 and we ended up getting seated at 7:30 and got our food after 8. The service was not very good, the waiter hardly stopped at our table unless we got his attention. the caesar salad was SO good. The pizza was also amazing. The spaghetti marinara was not very good, you'd be better off going to fazolis. The atmosphere was nice and pretty but there was no room to stand when we waited for an hour. it was super crowded and uncomfortable and there was nowhere to sit either. I would not recommend going to this restaurant unless you are willing to be patient. 50% of the food consumed by my party was very bad and the other 50% was very good so it's hard to say weather the food was good or bad. I wont be coming back here again because of the wait and the service but if i had a chance to eat the food without having to wait, i would. i loved the caesar salad i could eat it for the rest of my life. There is no doubt this a 4+ star restaurant when in comes to taste and quality of food. Some of the best in or near Elmhurst. The service and general attitude is a huge turn-off though. I have dealt with the Matriarch (not sure if it is Mom, daughter, sister, pure owner or what?) as a patron, a vendor, a solicitor, and just an Elmhurstian and at no point was she ever pleasant. Her nasty attitude has rubbed off on the younger daughters/cousins/ nieces to the point...the only time I will eat Roberto's is if someone else is picking it up. I have a really hard time pulling cash out of my wallet and giving it to folks who are so unapologetic about their snippy attitudes. We ordered a pizza for delivery just after 6pm. We gave our credit card information and asked for an 18" pizza with sausage and mushrooms. The total was $25. The person on the phone said it would arrive in about 40 minutes. About an hour and a half later, we began to wonder where our pizza was. We called just to check on the status, and the girl who answered the phone seemed to know exactly which order we were talking about, and she said the delivery driver should be arriving to our home in 2 minutes. We weren't upset at this point, as these things happen sometimes, people run late, it's alright. As long as the pizza was still hot, we were not concerned about having to wait a little longer for it. But, about 30 minutes later when the pizza STILL hadn't arrived, we decided to call again. This time, I simply wanted to make sure that we weren't going to get an ice cold pizza that was made two hours prior. When I called the second time, the same girl answered the phone. I explained that we had ordered for delivery two hours prior, and she very quickly put me on hold. She came back about a minute and a half later and then asked for the last name. I was put on hold again. About two minutes after that she came back and asked for my phone number and I was then put on hold for a third time. Finally, a gentleman answered the phone and explained to me that the ticket for our pizza was jammed in the printer so the order was never actually started. This was a little irritating, because it means that when I called to check the status the first time, the girl who answered just started making stuff up when she said the driver was almost to our house with the pizza... that was never even started... because the ticket was jammed in the printer... two hours prior... and it somehow went unnoticed.... even after we called to check on it. At this point, I simply asked if we could reverse the credit card payment and forget it. I said that we could easily hop in the car and go pick up some Portillo's and that it wasn't a big deal. The manager insisted that we let him take 50% off the total and that he could have the pizza made in 8 minutes. I asked about how long we were going to have to wait and he promised that we would have the pizza at our door within 15 minutes. After all, we live relatively close to this restaurant. I said fine because I am not typically the type to make things difficult. If he wanted to comp half the order, fine! It would be a hot pizza made fresh and we would still enjoy it. SO! Another HOUR passes and we still do not have our pizza. At this point, we didn't even know what to say when the gentleman arrived. We knew that it was not the driver's fault, and we were more concerned about the awkward transaction that was about to take place when he finally arrived with our pizza three hours after we ordered it... So the guy comes to the door and tells us a completely different total than the original full price, and completely different from the 50% discounted total as discussed with the manager. AND, it was a completely different pizza. Not even our order. It was a small sausage pizza and he told us it was $17. We tried to explain to him that we had just waited 3 hours, and that this wasn't even our pizza. Instead of apologizing, the driver said, "Oh shit. I delivered the wrong pizza." We finally just asked him to take it back with him and forget about it all because we were so frustrated at this point. The driver said no, he couldn't just take the pizza back because he would then have to pay for it and it would come out of HIS check. I explained that we certainly weren't going to pay MORE than the price promised for a pizza that was smaller than the one we ordered and had totally different toppings on it. We were still trying to be kind, and we told him not to worry about it, and he snatched the pizza back and parted with, "No, I AM going to worry about it because this is my fault and I'm going to get in trouble!" and then he sped off in his car. I was just shocked at this point that it was somehow OUR fault because we wouldn't just pay him the $17, take the wrong pizza, and let HIM off the hook for delivering ours to the wrong house. So after the driver sped off, we called the restaurant back to make sure they weren't going to charge our credit card for anything, and the manager who answered said that he had already sent a second driver with our correct pizza and that he should be there in, wait for it, TWO MINUTES! We begged him to just forget about it. We said we did not want the pizza anymore. But he was angry and assured us that it was arriving in seconds. Sure enough, it did arrive, 3 short hours after ordering it. And get this, we PAID for it. It was the 50% off price we discussed, but I would just think that after all of that mess, they'd just let us have the darn thing for free. Best of all, it was cold. Where does one begin? With a waitress who greets you with no smile, some mutterings, and after that, it all falls apart. My husband and I ordered the special, dover sole, one of our favorites. I didn't think it was possible that anyone could torture a poor fish like that....it was rubbery and had to be cut with a knife. After one mouthful, we decided we wouldn't put ourselves through any further agony. Let me go back a few minutes, when the busboy came to our table to give us some water, he spilled our melted butter all over our settings. Instead of reseating us, a few napkins were put over the spill which seeped through. After informing our waitress we didn't want the sole, she did a quick spin saying as she was leaving, "I'm getting the manager." Now the entire dining room was aware of our situation which was causing a scene. I guess she didn't have the authority to handle the situation herself. Here comes the smiling manager (I'm saying this sarcastically). I am assuming his intention was to intimidate us. Oh, please! He informed us that he has served over 80 dover dinners this past week, implying that these poor diners enjoyed it. We then ordered the branzino filets which was served with crispy skin; however, there was an abundance of scales which made the otherwise tasty skin inedible. In addition, the filets had bones, indicative of careless preparation. No need to go any further. It was an extremely upsetting experience and will let our friends and family know to stay away. We even talked to the manager before we left and I have to say he was indifferent when I said I'm telling you this in person since your not reading yelp reviews. Our wait staff never once asked us if the meal was meeting our expectations and never stuck around long enough for me to say something without makings big scene, which I won't do, Our food was subpar. We had calamari and my husband had three pieces with cartilage which he couldn't eat. The marinara sauce was watered down and had o flavor. My Ouse salad had a heel of a lettuce head in it along with two olives with the pit still in it, I almost cracked a tooth. And it had one slice of cucumber and one cherry tomato. My husbands soup had crunchy pasta in it. My eggplant Parmesan was cut thick and had the bland marinara sauce with a side of crunchy pasta. My husbands lasagna was equally land and lacking flavor. We didn't even finish half of our dinner and when the waiter came by asking if we wanted to take it home, we said no. He just took the plates and walked away again avoiding any dialog with us as to why. What made it worse is that this was a childhood memory that was a special treat. However,this place is now dead to me. The only good thing that they can make is pizza and that's because it's made in a different kitchen and different staff. Don't make our mistake. read more
