I will no longer order from this restaurant. We placed an order online for delivery and told eta of an hour. Fine, no problem. 1 hr and 15 minutes later, I called to get the status of the order, and was told "it's on it's way now." Great. 1 hr 40 minutes later, I speak to same young employee who's taking orders asking again for an update and I'm told, "soon." I then state that this is unacceptable and a more accurate eta should be provided. I ask to speak to a manager who refuses to talk to me on phone and am told, "10 minutes." 2 hours and 35 minutes after placing the original order and we still have not received our food. It's mind boggling how terrible the customer service was regarding our order. What's even more confusing is that I'm a long time customer as well. I will never order from Roberto's again. read more

I used to be a fan of this restaurant. Had my mom's funeral luncheon and catered there for Christmas. Even was there for new years eve this past year but unfortunately I will NEVER go back. Their manager who thinks he also is a wine conasioour who in reality is the host of this restaurant is the most arrogant and does not care about his customers and I'll tell you why. I ordered a 5 Oz glass of their wine. I'm no expert but I didn't like the taste. I had my husband and sister try because I thought it was maybe just me. They agreed and I told our server. I then ordered a vodka martini and he returned saying the manager (The Host) is a wine conasioour and you will have to pay for it. I was so upset because for a 11 dollar wine you would do that for a 200 order? He came to our table and my sister shamed him into taking the wine off our bill. Damage was done. And when we got our bill they charged me 18 dollars for that God awful wine which if you know me I would never order a mouthful at that price let alone taste horrible. They removed it but I will never return. Pazza di Pizza and 100 South Chop in Elmhurst are way better and customer friendly. They'll get my business and referrals. read more

Roberto's has been our go-to for pizza since we moved to Elmhurst a couple of years ago. It had been my husband's favorite. We have stacks and stacks of menus saved in our drawer. Tonight we placed an order for a pizza and found a large bug under the cheese. When we called to let the kitchen know, whoever we spoke with said there's no way it could have happened there because "everything is sterile". He said because we ordered "lite cheese" it couldn't have happened, as they would have seen it. Then he said he would send the delivery driver back to collect the rest of the uneaten pizza. I get that this can happen; all we wanted was our money back. (Still waiting to see if that processes.) And we were happy to return the uneaten portion (wasn't going to eat it after finding the bug). Still, I did not appreciate the accusatory tone when we called, especially since we've been loyal customers and have never had any issues prior to this. read more

That's when I discovered the store was closed. There was No signage, No change to their voicemail. (The Mailbox was full and would not permit additional messages) A Very poorly executed day off. We weren't that hungary, it was 90 degrees that day and we wanted to eat light. We decided to go to Roberto's knowing it was a little more up scale than we wanted for a week night. We have experienced what we call "elmhursty attitude" at other venues in Elmhurst and although the matre'd looked down at my shorts, our waiter Jason, was spectacular! First he explained the specials, that sounded great, but wasn't at all put off when we said we were eating light. We both ordered the Cesar Salad, "that he made himself", and the grilled calamari. Service is generally unmemorable (except for one very special waiter--read more on this below), but that doesn't make it a bad thing. FOOD: Typical Italian fare. The menu is long, which is often a bad sign, but surprisingly the food was pretty good. No complaints from the four adults and one 2-year-old in our party. SERVICE: Just fine. Our waiter always seemed to be around when we needed him, yet he wasn't overly enthusiastic about his job. Now, there was one very special waiter. He was an older man who was waiting on tables in our general area. He noticed at some point that my son was getting a bit fidgety, so he stopped by and asked if he could give him some Dum-Dum suckers. Little did he know, this is my kid's absolute favorite treat. So, not only did this small gesture go a long way for calming him down and making him very happy, it gave us more time to hang out with our friends, and that meant we ordered another bottle of wine as well as desserts--good business move, Mr. Awesome Waiter! ATMOSPHERE: Didn't spend much time inside, although it looked nice. The narrow outside patio was quite pleasant. We had a round table for our party of five, which lent itself well to socializing with good friends over several bottles of wine. PRICES: Pretty standard somewhat pricey upscale Italian suburban restaurant prices. If you have ever been an one of these types of restaurants, you won't be surprised, but you also won't feel like you're getting a deal. KID-FRIENDLINESS: So, yeah, no one is going to give you the evil eye when you walk in with a kid. In fact, we saw lots of kids in this place while we were there on a Saturday night. However, they do not offer a kids' menu, so be prepared to order a side of plain pasta and sauce or half-order of one the the pasta's off the menu. Yes, I would go back. Roberto's is a beautiful space. Great bar and seating layouts. Came here for dinner with my best friend for night out without the Hubsbie's. We're firm believers in nights out without the guys sometimes--let's face it, they don't want to be around when we talk about shoes or the latest gossip. And what better place to chat than at a nice restaurant where we can linger. Very friendly and attentive staff/service without any hovering. We had the stuffed artichoke appetizer--that was OK. I wasn't "wowed" by it. Main dishes were the Chicken Saltimboca--very yummy and the chicken was very tender. Yummy thoughts running through my head, I could have sopped up the great sauce with bread but wanted to save room for dessert. My friend had the Gnocci with marinara sauce--that was pretty good too. Dessert was the chocolate souffle--which I don't think was really a souffle, it was more like a chocolate lava cake. But what's in a name? It was still chocolate-y goodness. The only thing I didn't like was the coffee. At the end of the nice meal, I love lingering over a nice cup of coffee. Very watered down and no coffee flavor at all--wonder what happened with that. I will definitely be back--they have a nice patio area and I'd love to "linger" there during the warmer months. My review begins with our family making the mistake of looking for pizza in the ristorante section of Roberto's. This was our first time eating at Roberto's and we heard about the great pizza here so we entered the ristorante side of Roberto's, sat down and didn't see pizza on the menu. From the get go, we were a little bummed about the mistake we had made. I was looking for something a little more casual but Roberto's Ristorante felt a little more on the formal side. Roberto's is a place where I would take my wife to on Valentines Day. I get that Roberto's is authentic Italian, but I feel the menu is a little overpriced. I felt the tables were too close together and the establishment was overly loud. I had to talk to my wife with my outdoor voice even though she sat right next to me. I know that on Friday nights, most restaurants are busy, but the servers rushed their serving duties and in my opinion, they were overbearing. With tables so close together and patrons getting up, many of the waiting staff had to push their way through congestion. I even heard from a waitress "Move it, or lose it" to a patron; not something you should hear from a semi-formal eating establishment. The food was satisfactory, I had the lasagna. Fresh Italian out of the oven is always good but between the lasagna and my wife's meal, I tasted nothing that was mind blowing. In general, Roberto's feels dated. The majority of the patrons were baby boomers or older so the food, service, and ambience were geared toward that demographic. I haven't given up on Roberto's, I would still like to try food from the pizzeria. There are other Italian options in Elmhurst that I feel are better in taste, price, and service. read more

Very disappointing Mother's Day experience. Had a reservation for dinner and seating was one hour late. Sat us in the tent and from that point on everything went bad. One waiter for about 10 tables. He was young about 20 yrs old. It got very overwhelming for him and there was no one in sight to help. The manager, "Vito" came around and didn't care at all. He ignored the tables as people were complaining. He was so cold and acted like we owed him something. Very cold hearted and didn't apologize or try to help this waiter. The waiter had tears in his eyes, yet Vito failed to kick in. Never saw such a rude person before. I will never go in this restaurant again, or ever oder pizza from them again. It took 3 hours to get our food, which was a pretty simple order. The tables around us were in the same boat. They were complaining and they were all hungry. It took us 4 hours to get out of there. Meal ordering was messed up, bread, drinks and appetizers were coming out at different times or not coming out at all. This restaurant failed in all aspects of customer service. My kid ordered Rigatoni that was undercooked. How the heck to you under cook Rigatoni? Then take 3 hours to serve. Heard there was a lot of arguing in the kitchen between owner and cooks going on. Vito was no where to be found. Just came around once and he was ignoring what was going on. I never experienced anything like this before. Vito was arguing with people as they were walking in the restaurant, inquiring about the wait times. The restaurant was overbooked on Mother's Day. He should have known to get more help. This was not a great Mother's Day ending at all. When we were leaving Vito was sitting by the bar area chatting with some bus boys. He was not even acknowledging the customers at all. Never said good night, thank you, Happy Mother's Day, nothing, not one word. I know a lot of people who are customers of this place. I will let them know about my experience. Never, never again will I every go here again. Vito needs some serious training about customer service. He needs to smile once in awhile and he needs to realize he needs customers, he is representing the owner. Vito failed in all aspects of management! Worse Mother's Day experience ever. To boot, my salmon was tasteless and watery and the waiter never asked how it was, how we were, and me- not being in the mood for confrontation- didn't say anything. My family has been ordering from Robertos for probably 10-15 years. They are one of the only places that delivers so we take full advantage of that. I have honestly only eaten in the restaurant twice within all these years but I have tasted a good portion of their menu so I'm an expert on the food no so much the wait staff/ambience ect.... They have great Eggplant Parm and linguine with garlic and oil and baked mostaccolli! If you just want something for lunch or a light din they have an eggplant sandwich that is very good too! The meat eaters I eat with love the chick parm, and the meatballs are supposedly very good. My only problem is the lack of vegetarian soup choices. So I always have to get salad when all I really want is soup. So if your not feeling like going out to din but you dont wanna cook just order Robertos! I think they deliver pretty far since I live in Lombard and they deliver all the way to me! read more

To top it off, they do not warn you when placing a an order for pickup. Roberto's seems to be the under appreciated Italian cousin of the cross town Mia Francesca. As a Elmhurst resident........I can proudly say that we have 2 first class Italian restaurants. Roberto's, tucked away in the "other" commercial area of Elmhurst, offers a enjoyable and relaxing experience. First off try a drink at the bar. Franco will warmly serve you. Franco = classic barkeep. Any music tonight..........as they do have performers on the weekends." Some Sinatra" is always a good thing. Pasta's are either freshly made in house or bought from local pasta purveyor Original Pasta Factory (sorry I do not think they sell to public). Delicious sauces/options for the pasta. Honestly, after reading some of the reviews I was hesitant to go but it was Mother's' Day and my mom really likes Roberto's. Why would we travel out to Elmhurst when there are so many amazing Italian restaurants closer to home in the city? I really enjoy well-prepared quality fish and would definitely describe myself as a fish snob so I was going to order pasta because surely, this suburban restaurant wouldn't have quality fish. I was WRONG on both accounts. The waiter, a friendly, very knowledgeable Italian man assured me that the fish was very fresh and very good. I rolled the dice and went with his recommendation, the branzino. It was amazing. Perfectly prepared with a light seasonings and olive oil. Very light and flavorful accompanied by a small salad which perfectly complimented the flavor of the fish. My sister order the Halibut which was equally good. My nephew order the grilled seafood platter which was very generous and delicious. Given the quality of the seafood. The prices were appropriate. I definitely plan on going back. read more

Went to dinner on a Sunday evening, Sat outside. We were seated quickly, my husband, myself, and our son (1.5 years old.) asked for two normal menus and one kids menu. We were never brought a kids menu, however the bus boy saw him and brought him a kids water right away! (The highlight of our experience.) Service was painfully slow, not the oh we are letting you take your time and not rushing you, But more like.....have the forgotten about us again?! Food had NO SALT OR PEPPER!! Or any seasoning at all. Bruschetta was just toasted bread and tomatoes, no basil, salt, pepper, anything. So plain! Skip it! Not worth it! The soup was good, but had to ask for spoons. Both of our pastas were over cooked and 100% flavorless! Husband had a tomato based sauce that just tasted of super sour tomatoes. Mine said to was coated in olive oil and cheese.....I had a good 6+ ounces of some kind of watery broth. Although the food wasn't worth the wait or cost our biggest disappointment was seeing how the manager treated his employees. Saw him scold 3 different bus boys for not moving fast enough.....they were right behind him with what he needed, and the one time he asked for something else the guy was back in under 30 seconds with it and extras for other tables! Over all just stick with getting pizza Togo because that's wonderful! After our quite expensive dinner we left wishing we just ordered a pizza to go! Won't dine in again. SERVICE is the glaring issue with this establishment. I have dined in once at the location and ordered delivery on multiple occasions and have never been treated so rudely. First for my dining experience. I came with a friend on a rainy day. We missed our class at the yoga studio across the street and figured we would stop in for dessert and coffee. The restaurant was VERY slow yet our server seemed completely annoyed that we were not ordering dinner. We asked a couple questions about the dessert menu which seemed to annoy our server further. While we both enjoyed what we ordered, we spent the entire time feeling unwelcomed and uncomfortable. It also took a very long time to get our check which surprised me if our servers concern was turning his tables for people ordering dinner! My delivery experiences have actually been worse if that is possible. I help manage a large business in elmhurst and our location often orders pizzas from robertos. While i do enjoy their pizzas and find them to be better than your typical chain pizza place, i have been treated so rudely, borderline confrontational, by two separate delivery drivers on TWO separate occasions that i literally have lost my taste for ordering from them. I am still a customer, even if i am just ordering delivery, and I cannot believe that the delivery drivers feel that it is their place to tell off a customer?!?! After the first time i just blew it off as one bad experience, but after it happened again i am convinced that it is major problem with this establishment. I really do try to support local business's that value their customers. But this place just doesn't cut it. 6 of us dined at Roberto's to celebrate my Mom's 75th birthday. Food was excellent, Service was excellent. LOTS of gluten free options. GF cheese ravioli with marinara was out of this world good. Baked fig appetizer (also GF...stuffed with goat cheese, wrapped in bacon then baked)...OMG crazy good. Two people at the table had GF gnocchi with different sauces and they both ate every last bite. My family and I have been frequenting Roberto's for the past couple years. We have always enjoyed our visits from the quality food to wonderful service. However, we were rather taken aback by our most recent visit. At the end of our meal, the check came, which my father took care of. He paid with a credit card to cover the check and cash to cover the tip. The waitress returned asking if the bill was to be paid with both the card and cash, or if the cash was her tip. My dad responded that the cash was her tip. She responded with "okay, I just wanted to make sure. If that is what you think I deserve then that's fine." The waitress then walked away. After I found out what the final bill was and how much my father tipped her (just above 10%), I explained to him that a 20% tip should be given. We corrected the issue and my father personally went up to waitress on our way out with the correct amount. All in all, my father should have looked at the gratuity options on the bill, which the waitress had no problem pointing out to him. I personally don't believe in tipping less than 20% anywhere as I understand the hard work that goes into being a server, but I wasn't paying for the bill. However, I don't believe her response was professional and it made for a very uncomfortable situation. If I were in that position, as much as it may have bothered me, I would have just accepted/been appreciative of what was given without a snide comment. read more

This time I had a chicken breast pieces covered with spinach and onions with angel hair pasta and a white cream sauce over all It had a fantastic great taste but too much food so I took some home for a second great meal like the first time. This time the service was not so great. I have been to Roberto's 3 times in my life... once years ago (before they remodeled) with a few girlfriends, before HB... next to pick up a gift card for my boss for his birthday last Summer... And then just recently for a family dinner! My HB grew up in Elmhurst, and Roberto's Ristorante is a favorite of his and his family's. We went there last weekend on a beautiful Sunday evening... They have a beautiful outdoor patio but we figured it was a little too hot for ourselves so we decided to sit inside. The menu had everything one would expect from an old world Italian "Ristorante"... from their "famous" thin crust pizza... to their veal parm... to some great specials... It was very, very hard to decide what to have for dinner. The family had a wide variety of libations as well as dinners.. and everything was really good. The only thing that I didn't understand was why they served roasted potatoes with my chicken marsala and not the traditional side of pasta, it was quite weird. People have posted that service is slow.... but I will have to say our server was on top of everything! (Bussing staff as well.) After hearing about how "amazing" Roberto's was we had to go. Originally we were going to try Francesca's in downtown Elmhurst but when I passed by the restaurant after work I saw how busy it was and decided it was too late to try to wait for a table. I wish we would have waited. SERVICE= First off, If I could give 2 ratings: Service and food I would give the service a 1. We went with our three-year old who is very well behaved and sits in a regular chair just like you can I. She was also coloring the paper tablecloth, which is common for kids- that's why restaurant's give you crayons. In other words, you can't miss her. SO I was very disappointed when she was constantly ignored by our waiter. First he came by to ask about drinks and walked away before I could mention that our daughter would just have water. Then we ordered appetizers and he only brought our 2 plates to eat from. AND WALKED AWAY. Luckily there were bread plates and she used that to eat Bruschetta and calamari. I also ordered a soup and we shared the bowl. HE SAW US SHARING THE BOWL because Seth was asking him a question about something. Can't remember at this point. When taking our dinner order he asked Seth (in fine dining don't you ask the ladies at the table first?) and then me AND WALKED AWAY! what about my daughter? Does she not eat? YOU SAW ME SHARE MY SOUP WITH HER? SAW HER EAT CALAMARI AND BRUSCHETTA, she's obviously NOT picky- Assume that she's sharing with one of us? ASK FIRST. But alas, he didn't. BUT it turned out ok because she was in fact getting full and I was going to share my pasta with her. When the order was delivered, I asked him to please bring out a bowl for my daughter so I could share my meal with her. Her brought out a plate. DUDE, I asked for a bowl because it's easier for her- she's 3. No worries, she handled the plate. I was trying to make it easier by using a bowl, just in case it was difficult. They started cleaning up after dinner and assumed us finished. I saw him about to bring the check over and my fiance asked for a cappuccino and dessert menu. We ended up sharing a dessert. EDIBLES: my rating? 3, more like 2.5 but I'm rounding up. This isn't fine Italian dining. It's an over priced mom and pop. Lipstick on a pig. A restaurant like this in the city wouldn't make it past a year with these recipes at these prices! I expected waaaaaay better. with everything we ordered I wouldn't pay more that $50, instead we walked out paying $120 REALLY? So disappointed. BTW, no alcohol. The calamari was the generic breaded calamari that you can get at ANY pizza place. no spices, nothing and the tangy cocktail sauce- from a jar I'm sure. Probably next to the can of tomatoes they used to make their marinara. How do you mess that up? Can't you use real tomatoes? AT ALL? or at least try to dress it up a little better? Make an effort. The Italian Village grows their own spices out in Oak Park. AND THEY'RE CHEAPER than this place! SO DISAPPOINTED. I received so many recommendations?! It was packed! HOW? Is everyone oblivious or was the only place to go on Spring Rd.? The only things I appreciated at the restaurant was the keyboard singer and the greeting staff/ hostess. I LOVED THAT! reminded me of seeing Tony Spavone perform at Spavone's in Bloomingdale when I was a kid. We ended up coming to Roberto's for a late Sunday lunch. The restaurant was almost empty, but the interior of the restaurant was welcoming. Our server was incredibly enthusiastic and had great recommendations. We started with several appetizers. My favorite was the burrata mozarella with proscuitto and roasted veggies. The bruschetta was also garlic-filled and delicious. I was not a fan of the fried calamari as it was a little too rubbery for my taste. For my entree I ordered the seafood risotto. The mussels and clams were good, but the shrimp was a little tough. I wasn't too fond of the risotto as it really didn't taste Italian to me. I hate being disappointed with my entree so I was looking forward to a cannoli for dessert. The restaurant only had 1 cannoli left, so only one person at my table ended up getting it. I got a chocolate ice cream ball-like dessert that was covered in cocoa powder. It was delicious but I wished I was eating the cannoli. Sad kids. Overall I was much more impressed with the appetizers at Roberto's than my entree. I think that if I had chosen something different my experience would have been entirely different also. I had friends coming over for a get together and ordered Roberto's delivery. We had spaghetti with Bolognese sauce (Fantastico!) and 2 pizza's extra crispy. We ordered the Vito's Special (outstanding) and the Margherita ( a bit less spectacular) but enjoyed none the less. I think since the basil is out of season it is not as flavorful as it is in season so the pizza was bland. Anyways, rave reviews all around. The food was piping hot, delivery person was very nice and delivery time was spot on. Roberto's did wonderful and I will be ordering through them again. read more

Last Friday, we booked a Mothers Day brunch reservation with Roberto's Ristorante & Pizzeria on OpenTable. Our reservation was to be at 12:30 pmtoday. All seemed well until I received a call at 12:05 pm that they are overbooked and were canceling our reservation. No attempt to apologize. No attempt to compensate for our troubles. Nothing. My mother and I held my sisters Bridal shower at Roberto's. The place was great! For the same price as Maggiano's banquets etc. you get a much more personal experience with great food and excellent service! The waiters did a great job and set up the room exactly to our liking. The food was excellent . Yummy mixed greens salad and excellent flavorful pastas. Portions were huge, and wine was good. All of our guests loved the place. I will definitely go back to eat and I would have another event at Roberto's! read more

Ordered four 18" pizzas, a salad, and a gluten free pizza for a team meeting. Delivery was right on time, the pizza was very fresh, hot, and the texture was superb. The pizza had a thin crust, good crisp, perfect amount of cheese, and the pepperoni and sausage topping was fantastic. I recommend this place and I'm glad a coworker recommended it. Had a wonderfully relaxing lunch here today sitting on the patio. The Cheese Ravioli and side of Meatballs were both outstanding! The texture and taste of the Meatballs reminded me of my mothers. Have been here for multiple occasions....unfortunately the most recent was to celebrate my father's life at his funeral luncheon.....Food= good as always, from my experience they do a decent job with large groups making sure the food is up to par and comes out fast. Service= leaves a lot to be desired.....without getting into too much detail, there were some major issues with service last month. To keep a long story short we will just say wine service (open bar charged on consumption) was VERY PUSHY and uncomfortable, watching the waiters overpour wine to jack up the bill was actually comical, we had running bets as to how high our waiters would fill our glasses. There were empty place settings being filled. Guests with full glasses wouldn't even sip their wine, and low an behold here comes the waiter to "top them off".... Overall, this isn't even the biggest issue. After notifying the OWNER a few days after the event and being apologized to and told that there would be a gift card coming in the mail to compensate, it has now been a month and no sign....1) didn't contact him to get a free gift card, just to let him know what happened and that it was b.s, but if you're going to offer it you should probably follow up.....2) if you are going to apologize and insist on making things right, you should probably do so, not just lie and try and brush people aside....weak... read more
