Long wait, average food and combative staff. Manager acted like a child and refused to come over to the table to speak with us. For the details: Our meal took over 2 hours to get food for a 7 top. After about an hour of waiting for the food, one guest spoke with the manager to see how close our food was to being served after our waitress said "any minute" 20 minutes prior. When the food finally came out a number of orders were incomplete. After the meal was over, the waitress offered to comp the "happy anniversary" dessert we didn't order as an apology or have a free drink. My dad paid the bill for the table and asked to speak to the manager. The manager said he already spoke with someone earlier and didn't need to come over and speak with the person signing the check. Tried Roberto's for lunch today & was disappointed. The only reason they aren't getting 1 star is because the food was very good & their outdoor patio area is quite nice. My coworkers & I stepped inside & apparently the only server working the lunch shift was standing at a computer across the bar area entering an order - we stood there for several minutes without so much as a glance up to greet us or say "I'll be right with you." We are seated on the patio & look over the menu, wondering what the daily specials are since there are 3 different items on the menu which are "of the day" (Soup, Risotto & the Panini). The server comes back with our beverages & asked if we are ready to order. My coworker says no & asked what the Panini of the Day is. The server states what it is and starts to walk away. "No, wait, what about the Risotto of the Day?" I didn't bother to stop her a third time to ask what the Soup of the Day was. Geesh. It's not like they were slammed busy, either. It was our group of 4 and 2 other couples in the whole place. I guess they only have pizza for dinner because there wasn't any pizza on the lunch menus we were given. My coworkers each ordered the ravioli and I had the vegetable lasagna. In comparison to other Italian restaurants we should have received double the amount of food for the price. $11 for 5 raviolis? All of us cleaned our plates & this is a group that normally takes half their food home. The lunches don't come with a small salad or soup, either - just a basket of bread & garlic butter (which was good). They have a different dinner menu so I'm sure the portions are larger then. Hadn't been for a while and definitely time to update my review. Today was the first time I have ever been here for lunch. Our server was very attentive but then there was only one other couple in the restaurant. There were lunch specials, don't know if they will carry over to dinner specials. We were able to completely hear each other, no competition, and the TV was on in the bar area, so we had that dining room completely to ourselves. Server checked frequently if we needed anything and we found our entrees to be rather tasty. The only negative about the experience, the ladies comfort station was set at meat locker temperature. I have to say I am shocked to see Roberto's only has 3 stars. I have lived in Elmhurst for 30 years, and have been lucky enough to be able to enjoy quite a variety of pizza, and Roberto's is without question, one of our go to pizzas. We enjoy Lou Malnatti's, Mama Maria's, Armand's and so many others (including Pazzi Di Pizza, Qs in Hillside and Gulliver's or County Inn). Bottom line is.... pizza is my single favorite food and while my favorites are mostly in NYC, I will eat pizza in Tulsa (try Hideaway. Good stuff), Omaha or any other city. I love pizza While they are known for their thin crust (and I like my pizzas with a little extra sauce and overcooked a bit...and they are good at getting that right), they also have my favorite pan pizza in the area. No need to say extra sauce or "well done" on this one. Their pan pizza is just really good. Just the right combo of dough, sauce, ingredients and gooey yummy mozzarella. The outside is maybe a little too thick, but the sauce seeps into the crust, which is critical. The crust would probably be too thick and dry if not for the right amount of cheese and sauce. Hope you enjoy as much as I do. Now here is the kicker. This is a damn fine Italian Restaurant. I hope the 3 star reviews continue to make it easier to grab a table, because these guys are cranking out some really good Italian food. My wife loves loves loves the Rotollo Ala Rossini (Tri-color pasta roll with cheese in a vodka sauce). I love most of their pastas. I'd say pazzi Di pizza in Elmhurst also has some darn good pasta and pizzas too (wood fire pizzas), but you can't go wrong at Roberto's, and it's a little quieter and easy to grab a table. The food is tasty but feels after eating few other dishes that everything from there taste similar- no meter if you order fish or chicken, Seems that they using one grave for all dishes so if I think about Roberto's food I recognizing that one taste. Been going to Roberto's ristorante and the pizza side since before I could even walk. One of, if not the best restaurant in elmhurst. Roberto's came highly recommended to me but maybe the person who did never tried to go there for lunch. For while the food was pretty good, the timing was way to slow for a business lunch. We arrived around noon and actually wondered if the place was open. However, the front door was flung open (it was a perfect fall day) so we ventured forth. There was only one table filled with the "ladies of Elmhurst" lunching so we were told to sit anywhere. As for ambiance- Roberto's has it. The curved wooden bar, the white draped tables all make for an engaging room. It also appears that this room opens to the outdoors in the Summer as there is a cute patio along the side that faces the bike path and wooded area. Menus were quickly brought to us but it was at that point the speed waned and we spent the rest of our visit flagging down the waiter to try to keep things moving along even after telling him that we were on a break from work. We ordered some grilled calamari to start. It was quite good served atop greens and was plenty big for the two of us to share. We then had the soup special of the day which was seafood minestrone (reminded me of Manhattan clam chowder) which was also tasty. Then the big wait. We ordered two salads. Mine a Caesar with grilled chicken, and his a spinach with some pancetta. While I can't figure out why these two items would take 30 minutes to prepare- they did. We were almost ready just to tell the server (when we could find him) to put it in a to go box as we had no more time when they finally came out. Lunch for two ran about $35 which is average for restaurants in the area. Free parking is easy (at least at lunch given we were the only people in the place) While the food was good and I would go back to try the much raved about pizza one evening (not offered at lunch), given the slow luncheon service- it really should only be considered when you have the time for a leisurely lunch (like those ladies of leisure previously mentioned) As for me? Great outdoor dining under the canopy, and looks out onto the Prairie Path. More upscale and trendy since they expanded. Roberto's pizza's are a local favorite. I actually like the pizza here more now in recent years, then when I was a kid. The pasta dishes are excellent and they have a nice selection of wines. Service is good, and you don't feel rushed to finish your meals, which I appreciate. A great date place, definitely visit during the summer when you can dine outdoors. First time here and with the exception of the screaming kids at the next table couldn't have had a better experience. The food was truly excellent. I had the Veal Scaloppine and tasted the Snapper and Branzino. The fish dishes were prepared exceptionally and tasted great but the real star was the veal. I have never had such a thin and tender cut prepared so perfectly. Had it with a side of penne in red sauce. The red sauce....perfect blend of spices, sweetness, and bite. We had a dozen oysters as an app and the artichoke. Very fresh oysters, artichoke was very good. Had the torta dessert and an expresso. All delicious. Definitely worth the 20min drive. read more

Before I write this review I have to admit that I'm totally biased. I've been ordering pizza from Roberto's for the last 27 years. I've never had a bad pizza in all that time! And, while I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, I'm not a fan of the non-pizza entrees. My wife disagrees, she likes the Chicken Marsala, and she always tells me not to order the fish, which I always do, and I'm always disappointed. You'd think I would learn! In any case, back to why I think this is the best pizza place in town. Because, I always compare all other pizza places to Roberto's, it's the denominator in my pizza formula. Don't take my word for it. Order a pizza and go in to pick it up. Look in the back and you'll see like twenty people working in the kitchen. I'm not the only one who loves it. Want OK Italian food and want to get it after an hour long wait? You've come to the right place! I've been here twice. First it was for a dinner rehearsal and I remembered it took a really long time for food. I thought it was because we were a huge group so I didn't second think it until I went there again. I don't know if it is because the kitchen is small or they're understaffed. But if you have three decent sized sections for your restaurant and it's all filled, something needs to be done. It took the waiter to come back three times (about 10-15 mins) to take our food orders ( we were ready for a while). And then we waited. And waited. Our order consisted of two chicken Parms, a veal Parm, Zsa zsa chicken dish, chicken Vesuvio and lasagna. We waited an hour to have those meals in front of our faces. And after all that wait, it was sub par. And the portion was eh. I've been to other Italian restaurants and you usually get twice the amount you paid for. The kicker was, the group of 10 people across from us got their food right after us and they were there for 30 mins. While my family has ordered take out pizzas since the 80s. My husband and I visit Roberto's every Wednesday. We were always very pleased with the food and service that was until sunday 2/17/24. We went there sunday afternnon, sat at the bar as usual. We ordered our drinks and an order of meatballs. Every time we go the meatballs are $8 and served with bread, cheese, and oil. this time however we had to ask for bread etc, which took exponetionally too long to get. Our bartender was less than attentive the entire time we were there considering we were 2 of 4 other people seated at the bar. less than stellar experience thus far. after waiting with empty plates for well over half hour I had to leave, not before my husband only walking me to the door was flagged down to put his credit card down in case we were planning to dash...after my husband got the bill to his suprise it was double what it usually is! He asked the bartender about the discrepancy and he was very rude regarding the price, mind you we have been to this restaurant every week for months paying the same amount. My husband asked to speak to the manager in which the owner came over. I expected an " this is the price, we know you come in here every week but for next time, this is what we charge NOW" but no. He was rude and stood firm on the $16 for 2 meatballs....although the food is fine we will not be returning due to lack of service, rude staff, and poor communication regarding price. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. Been ordering here over many years. Food is good, some things are overpriced, and service has always been mediocre at best. Not a reason to stop ordering take out though. Was in town and haven't gotten food here for a while so thought it'd be nice to get some delivery. Received our order over an hour after I placed it when I was told it would only be half an hour. It was a weekend so I expected it take longer especially as their estimates aren't usually accurate but over an hour is excessive. Whatever though since we finally got my food (just some pizzas) which turned out to be lukewarm at best. Oh and it wasn't the right order. Then when I called to ask about my wrong, cold food the man (manager?) asked in a nonchalant tone if I wanted another order delivered which I promptly declined. Why would I want another order when this one wasn't right and took over an hour to deliver? Never apologized, or offered a refund/future discount, etc...nothing to acknowledge their mistake. It's not even about the money it's the poor service. I like supporting small family owned restaurants in small towns but why waste my time and money here to just be disappointed. The online ordering is confusing to start out with. Somehow we ended up with a pizza covered in anchovies that no one will eat. The order was checked before it was placed and it didn't say anchovies, but there's no way for me to prove it. Regardless, I just called Robertos and they were unwilling to replace it. Roberto's is a locally owned Italian restaurant and pizza place. We didn't have reservations, but went in there around 5ish and were seated right away, albeit back in the corner of the restaurant. It was fine, as it was quiet back there and the restaurant got louder as it got later. To start with, we were given two menus, one full menu and one specials menu. There was no pizza menu. We asked the guy who brought water and he brought us a table tent with the pizza menu on it. It was so fancy inside of the restaurant, that we discussed whether we would be out of place ordering pizza (white tablecloths with white paper, candlelight, wine and water glasses at each place setting, with multiple pieces of silverware.) We both really were looking forward to pizza, so decided to just stick with pizza. Eventually, the table in front of us also ordered pizza, so we felt a little better. Our waiter was super friendly, speaking to us in Italian and letting us know to look at the specials. However, during the course of the almost two hours we were there, service was not great. While the water glasses were almost always full, everything was sloooowwwww. And at one point, our waiter came back to our table to drop off our salads and my glass with pop was empty. I had to call him back as he hurried away, so that I could get a refill. In a restaurant so expensive and nice, I would have expected him to be on top of this. At one point, I looked over and he was sitting chatting with another server. And at several points, the busboys were all standing around talking, and yet they were on top of their job, although there were about 3 different ones serving us. At another table, the waitress brought out a pizza that wasn't even fully cooked. I could see the pizza from my table when she brought it out and even to me it looked flat, too thin and pasty looking. The patrons at that table sent it back, because they said it wasn't cooked, very doughy. I would think the waitress might have noticed it didn't look right when she grabbed it to bring it out. The food was another story, it was delicious and for that, we would definitely go back. The bread that was brought out was crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. There was a garlic butter brought out that was whipped and just heavenly. I could easily go back there and just order salad and about two loaves of bread for myself. I kept eating it after I was done with my pizza. It was THAT good. Our salads were a fresh spring mix with a few tomatoes, onions and cucumbers mixed in a vinaigrette that was really nice. A tangy italian, which was their house dressing. Our (fully cooked) pizza was the Roberto's Special, which was sausage, onion, mushrooms and green peppers. There was no one ingredient that overpowered the other, but neither was there a shortage of toppings. The sauce was wonderful and the pizza was cheesy, crisped on the edges like I like it. As usual, I forgot to take pictures before I dug in. I am really bad about that!!! My New Year's resolution, as a Yelp Elite is to remember to take pictures before I start gobbling up everything in sight. See how long that resolution lasted??? Oh well, Yoga is my next resolution. Made it through the weekend and did it both days. We will see how that goes. Hubby says to me, I'm too full for dessert, so should we skip it? I said, yeah, we can skip it. Well the waiter didn't ask if we wanted dessert, he just brought the menu to us. Once we saw the long list of Italian delectable pastries, our resolve melted away and we were perusing the list as if we just hadn't spent the last hour eating. If I was ever trapped on a desert island, this list of desserts would be on my short list of things I wanted with me. I'd be like "No, don't rescue me yet, come back, still working on eating all of these desserts, first." Among other things, there were several different varieties of sponge cake desserts. We wen with the chocolate souffle that came with a side of ice cream, but when the waiter came to take the order, he mentioned that the cook just made a fresh batch of creme brulee the day before and that is was really good and smooth. So, of course, we ordered both!! The chocolate souffle was really good, not very big, but the creme brulee was the best creme brulee either of us had ever had. It was very good, light and a very creamy taste. I would definitely get it again. The meal wasn't cheap, it was $60 w/o tip. For a pizza meal, that is pretty expensive, but it was very good and we could have easily went with a small pizza, instead of a medium to save a few bucks. Would definitely recommend it, but be warned about the length of our time there. If you are in a hurry, this might not be the best place to go. We would also recommend you make reservations. That was the last disappointing meal of several tries. . Many many years we have been coming. Love Hanna the bartender.But once again, The prices go up, the food goes down $67 steak and $40 dollar pastas No wonder the place was near empty on Friday nite. We are grieving a loss were looking for a place to bring some friends after church. Vito was fantastic and took great care of us during our short visit to check the place out. We just moved here and I was so excited to try this place after hearing great reviews about the food. The first thing that really turned me off was I asked to try a wine to see if I wanted an $18 glass of it. I like most Chardonnay but not all of them. I've never ever been to a restaurant that charges you to try a sip of wine. Yes this place did. $4 to try 1oz of wine. Really??? Our server was ok, seemed like the last place he wanted to be was waiting on us. The food was mediocre at best. We had the orecchiette with sausage & broccoli rabe, vegetable lasagna, eggplant parmigiana and veal piccata. All just meh. Don't waste your time and money here. Roberto's definitely is one of my top suburban pizza places. They are locally owned and they have a carry out section and a dine in section. Most of my business usually goes right to their delicious pizza straight from the carry-out side. Recently I have began to explore the dine in side with my wife. She absolutely loved their mushroom soup!!! Prices on the restaurant side are a little on the higher side. You can still get the pizza in the restaurant, but you have to just order it, or ask for the pizza menu. They have a huge wine list. The staff is always wonderful and attentive. It looks like their are alot of "regulars" that dine in their whenever I go to eat there. read more

Hd a bad experience lat Spring, I received a $20 Happy Anniversary email. Once Roberto's patio opened, we went there, only to be told the coupon was not valid on patio...which was the only part open. Th server and manager were quite rude in refusing the coupon. Decided to try again with friends celebrating a 450th anniversary yesterday. My entree arrived while I was still eating my appetizer. I love branzino and have it often when it is on the menu. Their version was full of bones as well as scaled. When I sent it back to the kitchens the manager came out in a most argumentative manner. Claims the fish had been deboned, which was not true. Then said that the scales are on the skin, and should not have been eaten. Fish should be scaled..always...and crispy skin is delicious. Please don't argue with a patron. We will surely not try Roberto's again. And by the way, they did absolutely nothing for the 50th anniversary. read more

We did have the brucetta as one of our appetizers and the bread could have cracked your tooth it was so hard. This place has really good thin crust pizza. It's a pretty nice place if you do takeout. However dining in is very disappointing. The vibe in the dining room is upscale fine dining. The prices are really high, but the quality is average at best. Their food is about the same quality as Olive Garden, but much more expensive. Pay close attention to the menus ahead of time. The same food items will cost a lot more if you dine in, than if you get it takeout. This is basically a takeout pizza place, with other average quality Italian food, and should be treated as such. If you go here with that expectation, you will not be disappointed. Do not go here expecting high quality Italian food. read more

I will no longer order from this restaurant. We placed an order online for delivery and told eta of an hour. Fine, no problem. 1 hr and 15 minutes later, I called to get the status of the order, and was told "it's on it's way now." Great. 1 hr 40 minutes later, I speak to same young employee who's taking orders asking again for an update and I'm told, "soon." I then state that this is unacceptable and a more accurate eta should be provided. I ask to speak to a manager who refuses to talk to me on phone and am told, "10 minutes." 2 hours and 35 minutes after placing the original order and we still have not received our food.
