Food is delicious, large portions, ok prices for the area, service is friendly but not that fast. They also have a small salsa bar and fountain drink refills. The outdoor seating area needs some repairs and maybe more shade/umbrellas. Parking is limited but most people are in and out so just give it a sec if it's full. Our kids love to hit this place up after a day at the beach.

I grew up in La Jolla and went to high school down the street at Santa Fe Christian so I've been to this location and countless other Roberto's over the decades. I would say they are most known for their delicious salsa and OK burritos. Most of my other favorite burrito spots have closed down over the years, but Roberto's is always consistently a good option. They don't have the best version of burritos, fish tacos, or other items, but they always do the job and fill you up for a cheap price. This location is right next to the beach just off the 101 and has a lot of free parking attached. They don't have indoor seating, just outdoor tables, but this is more of a to go type of place. Everything that we order is always made very fast so you won't have to be waiting long. The burrito invented in San Diego is called the California Burrito so it's what I've been ordering since high school and get every single time. Their fish tacos are pretty good as well, but they have gotten a lot smaller over the years. I would say that you must get their medium salsa no matter what you order as that is their best item. I have been countless times and will be back many times in the future.

Best Roberto's in SD, iykyk. Juan in the front is also super sweet and always gets everything right. Rolled potato flautas are bomb! Raza vengan por la salsa verde y el servicio!

Their carne asada burrito is good again! Tried again after avoiding for a couple years b/c of management change. Carnitas burrito was mediocre :/

Stopped by and got a breakfast burrito. You can tell they have had an ownership change. Burrito was bigger and tasted better than before.

Burrito was cold and way too skimpy. Literally half tortilla, unacceptable. The small amount of meat tasted funny. Won't be back.

Our server was fine and friendly. The food came out quickly. We had the chips and salsa (excellent). I asked for a non spicy salsa and my friends wanted spicy so they brought some of each. We split the the Heart of Palm Ceviche! So amazing and it was big with a beautiful presentation. Just delicious. I could have eaten that alone with no other items. It was a vegan Ceviche and the fish was not missed. My friends ordered really cool cocktails and raved about them. My one friend said that this is the only place she can get this particular cocktail and that she comes here just for it. I ordered 2 tacos (Mr. Asparagus and the Baja fish taco). Both delicious and they came with housemade potato chips (which I thought was weird until I tasted them). I was so full but I couldn't not eat the chips because they were so good. One friend ordered the Quesabirria and she didn't love it. It was very strange as it was wrapped in fried cheese. They also ordered the other tacos and loved them. The only one that didn't get a thumbs up was the Quesabirria. I am looking forward to introducing this restaurant to other friends. So good!

This is by far, one of the best sit down historical Mexican Restaurants around. We came in and sat on the beautiful patio. The salsa had oregano instead of cilantro and a little heat! The chili relleno was amazingly old school with a perfect egg batter. The beans were amazing. The rice had heat. The turkey taco was the standout. The marg wasn't a face punch of lime and sugar. Service is weird, but not enough to tank a perfect meal!

There were a number of issues with both orders as delivered. However, the staff bent over backwards to rectify each mistake. I ordered the "Old Fashion Orange Cadillac Margarita" and it was so bitter I couldn't drink it. I'm thinking they muddled the crap out of the orang and drove the bitterness from the pith straight into the drink. It was bad, my wife's "Ray's Millionaire Margarita" on the other hand was good, so there's that. Food was great, delicious and satisfying. The refried beans? To die for. I ordered a Chile Relleno and a beef taco and my wife a turkey taco. All were excellent and worthy of their claim to fame. We need to come back, eat a little less and leave room so we can sample a few of their desserts. Overall in spite of mixups on both orders, the accommodating staff and excellent food make a return visit a no brainer.
