Very cute decor and very good food. Bread is fresh and warm. We had the pork paillard - really good! Pork was cooked perfectly, juicy and just a little crips on the surface. There was a mahi-mahi almond encrusted special, we asked to have the salmon cooked that way and it was really good too, very moist and tasty, especially liked the lemon sauce on it. The only negatives was the mashed potato tasted like it came from a box - it was just a small side so it didn't matter to us, and there was only 1 other table here for early lunch, a table of 5 and they were so loud. Time and time again, RSK never fails us. We picked up Mother's Day dinner of 6 meals and 1 app. Everything was DELICIOUS!! Prepared on time and packed to stay warm. Chicken dishes, delicious. Seafood dishes, delicious. Our guest of honor, my mother ordered the pork chop vodka. Her eyes almost came out of her head when she saw the size of the chops. She absolutely loved it! Lots of flavor! Decided to try this place last night once I read the Yelp reviews. We didn't make a reservation, which I didn't think was needed, but we were still able to be seated right away. Just to make sure you are able to try this amazing place make sure you do make one. Right away we were greeted and our wine was opened. Everything on the menu seemed great and the specials made it a hard choice but we went with the Teriyaki Scallops and Mussels for the appetizer. I normally don't order seafood out because it never taste right but both of these were perfect. Scallops were like butter and full of flavor and the mussels were out of this world. For dinner the hubby had the 16oz strip steak and I had the Pasta with Clams. His steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned well and my dish was phenomenal. Dessert was just as great and we left feeling full and satisfied. We had one of the best dining experiences at this place. We will be back again and again and definitely brining friends along. Did we all go to the same restaurant? Because the reviews for this place on Yelp don't match up to the experience we had at Robert's Scratch Kitchen. It was NYE when we visited BUT I am not giving them a pass because they offered their normal menu. The entire experience from start to SCRATCH was subpar. #1 - why are you accepting 9:30PM reservations (especially on NYE) if you are going to rush people out? And when I say rush, I mean it to the fullest. Without telling us "get the f*** out", they pretty much did everything else to let us know they wanted us gone. Rushed the food, turned off the music, didn't re-fill waters, didn't offer coffee or dessert. It was so unpleasant. Especially on NYE, when we thought we would be there to celebrate? Usually we go to other Italian restaurants in the area for NYE and they make it so fun with props and champagne toasts and celebrating. (It is totally fine they didn't have all that extra stuff but we did expect to be there for 12AM and brought plenty of liquor and ordered plenty of food to make it worth everyones while). This atmosphere not only sucked but like I said, from the moment we sat down, we immediately realized what we were up against. They wanted us to order quick, shove the food down our throats and get the hell out. NOT COOL. #2 - the food was not good, mediocre at best and that's being kind. The branzino was dry and had a fishy taste, the chilean sea bass was ehhhh, tasted as if it was frozen, poorly defrosted and cooked quickly and the pork chop was not "juicy and tender" as described to us, rather it was pretty dry and tough, took a good 6/7 chews per bite to swallow....not a good sign. They couldn't even get the sides down right, the string beans were hard and lukewarm, with NO seasoning whatsoever. Also, all the appetizers unfortunately fell short too...the "pan fried goat cheese" was really just a cold lump of goat cheese over arugula with a few nuts thrown on top, disappointing. The octopus, which I think was a special, was nothing special. Octopus was a tad chewy and the flavor wasn't there. We also got talked into ordering one of their pasta specials of the night as an appetizer to share, it was some stuffed tortellini I think, can't remember the bogus description they gave us but the pasta was cold and again, no flavor...also the portion was so tiny. When the bill came and we saw it was $30 we were shocked and everyone agreed if someone had ordered that as their main dish, how terrible of a surprise that would have been. Towards the end of the night it became comical and we were all laughing at the table about how blatantly obvious they were being about wanting us gone. None of us had ever been treated this way. In the future, don't accept late reservations on NYE. Also, when people ask for their food to be spaced out, listen. This wasn't a cheap tab and to be treated so badly and not enjoy the food, it was hard to swallow. I won't be giving this place another chance. Too many other good spots in the immediate area. We're pissed we opened up our nice bottles of wine for this place. read more

We were very excited to try this place for our anniversary but everything was very blah. Danielle was our waitress and she was great but then disappeared and reappeared throughout the experience. The rice ball appetizer was average. We also got the truffle pasta and branzino. The fish was okay not amazing and the truffle pasta was pretty inedible, sitting in a bath of cream that was the consistency of milk with no flavor at all (very watered down tasting). Odd because everyone around us seemed to be enjoying every bit of their experience. Maybe we ordered the wrong things (?). Wow- I was blown away. Great atmosphere. Lighting a little dark but still very nice. The staff is super friendly. Food is fantastic. It's fresh and seasonal. Portions are large. Anyone that half cares about food will bother to take out the yellowed leaves from the packaged bag of greens before serving. Strike one. The tomatoes - hard, pale industrial tomatoes that Sysco probably delivered a couple of weeks ago. Strike two. Finally, the chicken: Not pounded flat, not seasoned, though nice and crispy. It's the rare occasion that you encounter customer service so putrid that you have to write a negative Yelp review for a restaurant before eating their food. 4 of our party of 6 walked into this place as a large party exited lamenting the mediocrity of their recently finished meal - good start. Upon entry the owner himself defiantly refused to seat our party until the last 2 arrived (they were running late in the rain). Now this is a relatively common (albeit wrong) policy however my mother is handicapped, diabetic recovering from surgery and there was only a crowded foyer in which to wait (another party was kind enough to give up their seat for her). Now this alone wouldn't be grounds for negative feedback - but I approached the owner to ask if he could make an accommodation at which point he was immediately and unprovokedly confrontational and began yelling at me / boasting that he had over 200 bookings tonight (great?) and didn't have to accommodate anybody because he could replace the booking. Which, itself was bizarre (I was politely asking if he could seat my diabetic mother so we could order while we waited for the last 2 to arrive, only to receive immediate berating from the owner), but more so bizarre coming from the man who identified himself with such braggadocio while providing astonishingly bad customer service. Anyway, we left because the owner's demeanor and conduct was totally unconscionable, as did the party of 6 who were waiting alongside us, so they lost 2 of their reservations at 8pm on a rainy night where clearly there was nobody else coming through the door. The food according to those leaving ahead of us was mediocre at best (they actually said "not good" but I didn't hear much more), and I hope the owners horrible demeanor and ridiculous approach to running his establishment comes back to him with the fury a customer base that will not tolerate such shenaniganry and hopefully stops frequenting this sham establishment. I cant say enough good things about this place! It is our go-to spot and it never disappoints. We are always bringing new friends and family to introduce them to some of the best food in the area. I have Celiac's and its rare that I find somewhere that I can eat almost everything on the menu. (And if I can, its usually not that great.) The food here is phenomenal and I can eat almost everything, right down to the delicious gluten free dinner rolls that are served warm. Robert created this cuisine as a labor of love having family that suffers from Celiac also. You can tell that he has poured his blood, sweat and tears into getting the best ingredients and coming up with the best recipes to serve. And the fact that he is personable and makes sure that you are happy (which is how we got to talking about Celiacs in the first place) makes it an all around great experience. The menu is seasonal so things change throughout the year but I havent had anything I didnt like. This is the only place that I can get fried calamari and crabcakes and they are both delicious! But the very best is the dessert...the molten chocolate lava cake is to die for! I stopped in last Sunday night with my family for dinner. Service was very attentive, the owner stopped by to check on us a few times and even presented the specials with pictures on a tablet. Chilled glasses were a nice touch for the beer that we brought, as was the way they uncorked the wine we brought, so as to keep the cork attached. They don't lie about the "no freezer" policy in the kitchen. We had the fried calamari, which you can get almost anywhere in NJ, but it's usually pulled from the freezer; into the fryer- to your plate. Not the case here: fresh handcut rings of calamari, lightly breaded and fried. The burrata appetizer was nice as well. For entrees we all went carnivore. I had a strip steak, my brother had the humongous veal chop parm, my mom had the lamb chops, and my dad had the filet. My strip was a little overcooked. I ordered it rare and my rare did not equal my dad's rare on the filet, but I still enjoyed it. The menu changes every season and so I am looking to return for the fall menu again as well as the winter menu. read more

Definitely surprised by this place, pleasantly surprised. We've driven past it 100 times, but had no desire to try it. We called last night at 6:30pm (Saturday night) and asked if they had a table for 2 in 20 mins. The hostess said sure, I'll put you down. I was super happy with that service. It is BYOB so we brought some stuff. When it came time to order, the waiter came over with an iPad to show us the specials. It was awesome to see the actual meals! I'm vegan so I asked if they had anything. The waiter went right in and offered a few options and was super helpful. I ended up ordering penne and spinach with red sauce (my fav). I asked that he be sure that no butter, cheese, etc and he stopped me and said "I understand". It felt so good to hear that. My husband ordered the mushrooms stuffed with lump crabmeat special as an app and then the special halibut for his entree. He loved both. The iPad came out again for dessert. Today, I dined at this restaurant with a friend of mine. They are gluten sensitive so it seemed appropriate to eat there. My guest ordered the salmon and she said it was enjoyable except for the horribly chopped up broccoli rabe they put in the plate. I ordered the gnocchi with eggplant dish. My dish came out swimming in tomato sauce, so much so it was hard to find the gnocchi and it was not even hot. The red sauce was way too sweet and almost inedible. It was a horribly composed dish that tasted like a sugar bomb. The service was uninformed about how dishes are prepared..This is not a cheap restaurant, so needless to say I was angry about paying $60 towards the check for a dish that I barely ate.!
