My husband and I were so tired from traveling and working double time, and decided to try Robert's. We ordered the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans. A HUGE serving of VERY tasty food!! Particularly the green beans were the best we've ever had! We travel for work a lot, and this place is FOR SURE in my top 3. Terribly disappointed!! Have no clue how they have a 4 star rating as a steakhouse. Their sirloin cut of meat was the worst I have ever had. We ordered 4 of them and all had gristle throughout. My mother's was so bad that she could not cut through it. Sending steaks back to cook a little longer is normal. However, when your partially eaten medium steak comes back charred beyond well done and you realize its not your steak. That's a little unsettling. The hostess, well I would say was rude but she would have to speak to know that ... never said a word and huffed the entire way to table and threw our silverware and menus on the table and walked off .... Hostess was all business, not so much friendly. It was a Monday night so it wasn't busy. Waiter was nice, but didn't appear very often. Water was NASTY! Salad was good but sat in a puddle of water on bottom had to get another thing of dressing after dumping the water off it. It got better when the food came. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli. All were delicious. Steak was fried w Panko crumb batter and super tender. So my aunt treated the wife and I to this place. Great googly moogly this hole in the wall was a great suprise. Ribeye that the wife had was on point. Great crust like a great steak should. Also had the Prime Rib, and wow what a surprise. Really didn't expect this from the looks when driving upto it. Words really cannot do this place and its staff justice. Was super excited to try this place after my husband said him and his coworkers tried it after a trip and loved it... I ordered the chicken fried chicken and got the steak soup as my starter. As I was eating the soup, I saw something that looked like a bug leg poking out the top. Sure enough, it was a big dead fly. I understand flies are everywhere, but when I told the waiter about it, they couldn't have cared less. They didn't want to compensate in any way (take it off the bill or bring out something else), he just asked if I wanted a to go box or if I just wasn't going to eat... Once we got the bill we politely asked him to at least take off a soda from the tab and he rolled his eyes when being asked to do that... I really think they need to hire some better help at the restaurant.. really unfortunate, because it looked super good. read more

My husband and I were traveling thru on the 10 and decided to grab some dinner at Roberts Steakhouse. The parking lot was full and that's always a welcome sign. The staff was courteous and the hostess was pretty accurate with the wait time. The food was excellent. We kept to the basics: Grilled Pork Chops & Chicken Fried Steak. The pork chops were easy to cut with a knife and the flavor was wonderful. My husband was only going to eat one and ended up finishing both (no doggie bag for him). The steak was as big as the plate and tasty too. We eat out approx 5 days a week and so our restaurant standard expectations are pretty high from the staff to the food to the time it takes to pay the bill and walk out the door. This restaurant is worth the effort. We make this trip at least 2 times a year and it will now be on my list of places to eat from now on. Thanks for a great experience. read more

I checked out Robert's Steakhouse after looking at good Yelp reviews. After looking through a pretty good selection on the menu I elected to go with the combo beef/chicken fajitas. Now, I'm as white as Queso Blanco, but I know a thing or two about good fajitas. The first bite was a savory as any high dollar steak I've ever had. The rest didn't disappoint. Generous portion, cooked to perfection. Served with tasty rice, beans, pico, sour creme, and a respectable portion of guacamole. Adrian, my server was friendly, professional, quick, and my request for just one corn tortilla with my dinner (don't judge me) was delivered correctly. My tea didn't go dry. Note to self, do not order the large chicken tender meal. To me, chicken tenders are those skinny pieces of breast meat you get at most diners or the grocery store. At Robert's, the tenders are huge which are surely sliced chicken breasts. My order came with 7 huge chicken pieces. The tenders were excellent. The side of fries were great as well. My wife, myself and daughter we're headed to Houston from Gonzalez and needed a place for dinner. We decided to try Robert's Steakhouse and were not disappointed. This was a Friday around 6:30p. First the staff was very friendly and sat us quickly. The place is typical of a country family style restaurant. Nothing special..but comfortable nonetheless. We immediately we're given rolls that we're decent. They we're a little baked and hard...but the center was soft and the creamy butter was delicious. We had some really good mozzarella sticks (8) with a cup of some of the best ranch dressing I've had. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with loaded Baked Potato, my wife had the Chicken Fried Chicken with loaded Baked Potato and daughter had Mac & Cheese. Probably the best steak one can get in the area. I always get the ribeye and it comes with a large selections of sides that you can choose from. The bread rolls they bring out to me are dry and tasteless, so I request chips and salsa instead and they happily oblige. They have a large variety of items on the menu including pork, chicken and fish I really liked the stuffed eggplant, but the last time I had it, it was very disappointing. This was actually our second visit here, but I'm glad I waited to write the review because our first trip was not as good as this last one. On our first visit hubby and I both ordered the chicken fried steak. Boy were we disappointed. We both agreed that it looked and tasted like a frozen preformed patty you'd buy at the store. Totally not what we expected from a Texas steak house. Thankfully, we decided that with the huge menu they offer there had to be something we would like, so we decided to give the place a second chance. This second visit was much better, except for a couple of small things. First disappointment was my salad. I typically don't order a house salad because they tend to be chunks of tasteless iceberg lettuce, but I happened to notice that the dressings were touted to be homemade so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I ordered bleu cheese dressing and sadly it wasn't a good example of the pungent dressing I love. It didn't taste anything like bleu cheese and didn't have chunks of cheese in it like I expected. It didn't taste bad, just not what I was hoping for. The salad was the tasteless iceberg lettuce I expected, but it was topped with some nice crisp bacon and crunchy croutons which added extra flavor. My entree was the spinach chicken. The grilled chicken breast was nicely seasoned and grilled just enough to cook it without drying it out. The real star was the spinach and mushroom cream sauce that covered the entire breast. It was delicious and the melted cheese on top was an added bonus. The whole thing was a juicy bit of goodness that I really enjoyed. My side was supposed to be garlic mashed potatoes. They were homemade mashed potatoes with lumps of potato and bits of skin in them, but I couldn't taste a bit of garlic. Another small disappointment for me. I wondered if maybe our waiter misheard my order and I was served regular mashed potatoes instead. Some salt and pepper sprinkled over the top took care of the slightly bland taste that you have when served plain potatoes without gravy. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken that he announced was very good. He also enjoyed his fried onion rings. Since most of the high ratings here are for steak, he's decided that next time he's going to order one. That will definitely be a big test because he likes his steaks very rare and few places can get them cooked right. We will just have to wait and see. We will definitely be back because we both enjoyed our meal this time and left feeling satisfied as well as extremely full. read more
