Came in for dinner tonight and glad we did. Seated promptly and waiter brought fresh bread quickly to the table. Hubby ordered the 12 ounce ribeye and I had filet mignon. Food came out quickly and the waiter was gracious enough to have mine cooked without seasoning per my request. From start to finish a great meal, friendly and attentive staff who checked on us frequently and kept our drinks filled up (sometimes that is rare in restaurants; LOL). We were in town for a baseball tournament and needed dinner. We had the grilled chicken salad and a burger with fries. Both were excellent! The salad had a huge chicken breast which was tender and flavorful. The burger was juicy and the bun was made from their homemade bread dough. The croutons on the salad were made from their rolls as well. We ordered food as a take out, and I would recommend boxing the chicken in a separate box from the salad as the greens did get a little wilted from the heat of the chicken. I have eaten at Robert's for many years and it has always been good until last night. The food was cold, the vegetable mix was gross and the baked potato was cold. The only thing close to me warm, were the rolls served. They were not busy, so there was no excuses for "cold" food. In the 3-4 years we have lived in the area, we have eaten here under ten times just because of the distance from home. I will start with good and end with the not so good. Bread and butter basket is delicious. It tastes just like Saltgrass Steakhouse's beer bread and butter. Service is great most of the time. Tea is delicious. I have never had an alcoholic beverage here so I cannot comment on them. My favorite menu items to order are their burgers and beef tenderloin tips with fried onions. Our friends love the fondeaux dip. I've never had a dessert because we are always so full. Their prices are very reasonable. A group of 8 of us ate and drank there for a couple of hours and were pleasantly surprised when we saw the bill. Not so good things. Their ranch dressing is always watery, so it ends up running off the lettuce. We have had sirloin and ribeye steaks and we have never been impressed with them. I am not a fan of the breading on their chicken fried steaks. I prefer a flour based batter and I believe they use a corn meal or something similar. I only gave 3 stars because of the food. Of the things we like to eat in general, very few of them taste good to us here. read more

I had a very tasty 10 oz. Rib-Eye steak here at Robert's. That was me showing true wisdom -- ordering a steak at a steakhouse in the middle of Texas. Less wise was my choice of the house Pinot Grigio as a beverage. Oh well. Robert's served our table of four said steak, a most fabulously fluffy baked potato, chicken fajitas, tortilla soup, and a steak soup. Everyone finished all of their items with nary a complaint. And, I will say, it all looked appetizing from where I was sitting. We arrived and ordered pretty early in the evening, when only a few tables were filled, but our waiter seemed just as overburdened then as he did an hour later, with three times the number of tables occupied. The decor at Robert's is quintessential Texas steak house, but perhaps a step up, appearing homey and country, but also clean and orderly. It's nice to know that Robert's is here waiting for us. I will happily return to Robert's the next time I find myself in Flatonia. Which, believe it or not, could happen several times a year. read more

Our waiter apologized and replaced it with a fresh glass from a newly opened bottle. The food was not great, but somewhat forget-able. My sister didn't love her sirloin steak, but in all fairness she ordered it well-done, so who's fault is that really? I ordered a grilled chicken breast plate that came with options and I ordered green beans or vegetables, I think. The veggies were very good, the chicken breast moist, so yay! My son had buffalo chicken wings for his dinner and he said they were good. He orders lots of chicken wings, so he knows what he likes. This is a small town, so I would say we lucked out. We stopped here after reading the reviews about the food. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Omg tasteless and the gravy was cold I also had the baked potato soup it was the best part of the meal. I had my own bottle water after reading the the review about the water tasting nasty. My husband had the ribeye steak the steak was tough. Before we left I had to go to the ladies room. I have never seen such a NASTY restroom. They have 3 stalls 2 were out of service. The one in service had crap all over it. How gross to see that in any business. The sinks are filthy as well. A Perfectly cooked and seasoned Rib-Eye steak was the order of the day. Accompanied with the local brew (Shine Bock Rocks!) from the Stoezl Brewery just 18 miles south was a fantastic choice. The food was amazing which made the price of this very reasonable meal, an outstanding deal. An unassuming country decor with very friendly and helpful staff made this place high on my top 10 list of restaurants around the US. I also liked the combination appetizer with mozzarella sticks, fried string onions, and chicken wings. The grilled vegetables that came as a side were sloppy and mildly disappointing. I wouldn't come here if you're looking for health! Cons - The waiter had goofed the order and brought out a baked potato instead of mashed potatoes. Not a big deal, but that's always awkward. You could tell he was definitely just looking to punch in and punch out of that place. - When you walk in the ambiance feels cheap. Definitely not a take your date here kind of spot. Just a good ol' fashioned family restaurant. Improvements - I would give a 4 star if they had more quality options such as organic, grass fed, or gluten free options on the menu. I had 10 oz ribeye with FF onions, Peg had steak-ka-bob. Both were excellent. We're not big steak eaters, but this may change us. Waiter was very attentive. He brought Peg a fully dressed baked potato without asking her what she wanted. He gladly exchanged the potato for one with just butter. Excellent service.
