Shocking! I've been to 17 Hands a few times. The coffee is nice and the baked goods are AMAZING! However, I went in the other day to hear a manager instructing an employee to use a rag to clean the inside of the toilet and then to use that SAME rag to wipe down the rest of the bathroom! I was shocked and interrupted to ask if she had misspoken as this is gross and also a health hazard. The manager snapped at me and told me to mind my own business. I then went to ask another employee if I might speak to another manager or the owner. They got very nervous and suggested I don't, which confused me greatly. Just then I could hear the previously mentioned manager speaking to the same employee from the bathroom and she was nearly yelling at them telling them how embarrassing and disrespectful they were. The employee who had suggested I not speak with the owner, or another manager then told me this is a common occurrence. I don't care how good the food is, I will not be returning after that embarrassing show. read more

One of my absolute FAVORITE coffee stops in Hampton Roads. Lots of great drink options including a wide selection of syrup add-in's and teas (decaf options too!). Not only is the coffee mouthwateringly delicious, they also have a fantastic array of food items as well. Cookies, cakes, cheesecakes (even a keto variety), quiches, scones, breakfast sammies, etc etc. All of it delicious with lots of flavors to choose from. Well worth whatever drive it'll take to get you through the door. Not a ton of dine in room, so be aware that you might want to take your goodies on the road. Not sure how long it'll last, but they also have a punch card which rewards for you for rewarding yourself with delicious drinks. Be sure to snag yours and get drinking asap! read more

17 Hands is a great coffee shop with an enormous array of coffee & tea choices, and a wide variety of snacks. In the last week I have had two breakfast biscuits, the coffee cake and a cinnamon roll. Tried this place today, drinks were great. Lavender lemons was amazing! The drink of the day was good too. The butterscotch scone was to die for, especially warmed up! Lots of flavors I'd like to try eventually. The only downside is the almond cake was dry! Flavor on point, but very crumbly and not cake like. read more

Don't walk, run to this place! No lie it's kind of embarrassing I have been here 3 times in the past week because I think I'm a little obsessed with their quiches. I have tried a different one each time and all of them are divine! My favorite is the She Crab quiche though. Like wow! Super decadent, lots of crab meat and just SO good. I've heard of this please before, but just never made it in. I'm so glad I took the leap and went in. Staff is super friendly and pleasant. I decided to try this place because the pastries looked amazing on Yelp! I went in the am instead of the pm so many of the desserts I saw were not prepared. Instead it was quiche and scones. But they did have some of their pm desserts in a fridge. I was able to snag some cheesecake (good, I've had better at Wegman's) and key lime pie (super delish, omg) for me. My hubby had the chocolate cake with buttercream frosting (meh according to hubby) and the molasses cookie (also meh). He also had a caramel macchiato with whole milk (wasn't as good as Starbucks, according to the hubby). I had a sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk (not very good for my taste, coffee had acidic, bitter aftertaste). read more

This review is so hard for me to write as 17 Hands was by far my favorite bakery in Hampton Roads until I placed a custom order. So let me just say that they are a yummy place to stop into for a good drink and a tasty pastry, but DO NOT place a custom order with them. I had my baby shower coming up so I called them to make a cake, I like supporting local spots so I wanted to give them my business. first off it is clear they have no good system in place for custom orders. I had to talk to 3 people to get the order placed and they charged my card for the 8 inch $45 cake. 2 days later I got 2 voicemails from 2 different people at 17 hands saying they had questions about my order. When I called back I spoke to a 3rd person. I had to explain my order all over again and she warned me that an 8 inch cake wouldn't feed 15 people. I said the baker said it would. So I changed my order to a 10 inch cake - when I asked how much more it would be she said she didn't know and only the baker knows that and that I would just pay the difference when I pick up the cake. I said, umm okay. So when I went to pick up my cake, 3 people had to look for the cake, 2 people had to figure out how much more I owed and they still had to call the owner to ask what I owed. The barista said I owed another $45. I said but I already paid $45, they said the owner says a 10 inch cake is double. What the hell! So now I have a $90 cake that they convinced Me I needed. I said it would have been nice to know that before I ordered. I asked to speak to the owner and instead they said the baker would call her - after the baker spoke to her the barista said nope it's still $90. So frustrated I said okay whatever I'm not, not going to take the cake. So I paid another $45. Horrible experience and terrible customer service. By the way I had 17 people at my shower who each had a slice and half the cake was left over... what a waste of money. My original $45 cake would have been fine. Also the cake tasted okay, but nothing amazing. Soooo disappointed by 17 Hands. Will never order from them again. Go to Flour Child Bakery, they are amazing and they have a price sheet for their custom orders. read more

Great coffee and baked goods! The majority of staff (bald guy, young blonde cashier, shorter cashier with red splash hair, dark haired baker .... my apologies that I don't know their names) are very polite and professional. Each has always ensured customer interactions were fun and the food prep actions are efficiently moving along. However...there is a taller woman...red hair...the owner for all I know....she has been overheard twice now berating other workers. Management 101 = praise in public, punish in private. 17 Hands has clearly become a crowd favorite based on the many times I've visited and the uniqueness of customers (dog lovers, hipsters, young couples, old couples, girlfriends coming from hot yoga, workout dudes, LGBTQ+, all races, all ages, etc.) Truly a fun and accepting place with great food and coffee. Perhaps a tiny attitude adjustment for one...recommended in the most respectful way you can on social media. I'm still coming for my sweet potato & ham biscuit w/cheese NO egg :) and a hot caramel macchiato. And for readers that made it this far, go try 17 Hands. The food and coffee are worth it. read more

It's smells so good in here from the moment you walk omg and it makes you want to try everything .I ordered a regular black coffee which was good and got the Mediterranean quiche. Today my daughter who frequents this coffee shop received the worst 2 Coffees I have tasted in some time. She got there around 4:50 PM . She knew they closed at 5:00PM but they seemed Happy to wait on her. She ordered a White Chocolate Mocha and a Carmel Latte. The Carmel Latte had to be thrown away it was so BAD! No flavor what so ever, steamed milk? And HORRIBLE coffee! The white mocha was not any better. We live 5 minutes from the store and I tried call and complain and all it did was ring then someone picked up and hung up. Thus this review! If you are closing and don't have fresh ingredients just say so instead of serving Garbage Coffee and taking her hard earned money. She too works in the service industry at Chickfila. Stopped by this gem as we headed out of town and was not disappointed. I had a got chocolate which was actually hot not warm and a spinach and artichoke quiche which was so light and fluffy. My husband, who is very particular about his espresso, had a double shot and a lemon blueberry scone. Both were fabulous. The place was charming and clean.
