A time capsule gem of an Italian restaurant in McLean. Located in the downtown area, the place hasn't been upgraded in years but well maintained and has a certain charm to it. Service is excellent- super friendly and attentive throughout. The kids loved it between the coloring and candy at the end. They have a pretty good kids menu- the rigatoni with meat sauce was a hit. They have a full compliment of pasta, Italian classics and pizza. The pizza was great with the meat sauce- not too greasy and not too sweet. Very impressed overall. read more

Rocco's is a Northern Virginia institution. It's been at its location for as long as I can remember. Hubby and I have been going here for years, especially for the deep dish pizza. It's absolutely our favorite! We've had their regular pizza, and although it's good, it's only just okay compared to their deep dish pizza. We also have enjoyed Rocco's garlic bread, cheesy (garlic) bread, Cesar salad, cheese steak sandwich, and lasagna. The service is always good (and if you get Tito, it'll be great) and the online take-out process is simple. One thing to note is that you can't put in an advanced online order. All orders will be ready in 20-30 minutes. That's the only thing I'd change about Rocco's. That and it can be a little cold in the winter. Other than that, it's perfect! read more

Classic family Italian spot, apparently since 1977. I guess it wouldn't be complete without sports junk all around, but that kitsch is a total turn off for me. I know Rocco's has been in McLean for over 40 years and I used to go there back in the early 2000's before moving out of McLean. I only got subs and sandwiches at lunchtime there and they were always good and the service was always good. I stopped in with some friends over the weekend and I was surprised by how awful the food was as this was totally unexpected from a place that has been around so long. Anyone who reads my reviews knows I love Italian food- I'm an Italian guy whose mom could cook her butt off, and I grew up in NY where it was hard to find bad Italian food. I've found a few good Italian places here in VA and I hoped Rocco's would be one, but maybe it's just a sub shop because I can't believe people think their meals are good. I'll start with the chicken parm- dry, tasteless, and the sauce on the spaghetti was like water. I ordered the shrimp and scallops linguini and it came with about 5 shrimp and no scallops. The shrimp had a fishy smell, so I ate one and didn't eat the rest. The sauce needed garlic, onion, salt and pepper very badly. At least the pasta was cooked well. Our other person ordered the chicken Marsala and wow, was it bad! The Marsala sauce had no Marsala taste whatsoever, it was super watery and tasted like very watered down brown gravy. The dish came covered, and I mean covered in onions- I have never seen onions in a Marsala dish, and this one had enough to make everyone cry. I don't know if maybe a replacement cook was working this past weekend, but this can't be how things normally are...at least I hope not. Also, the restaurant was roasting hot, we were sweating as we sat there and only one a large group came in did someone turn on the air conditioning. Finally, our server was a very nice young lady, who was polite and kept our drinks full. My only suggestion to her would be when you are picking up customer's plates, and they are all full and the customers do not ask for boxes, it's a good idea to ask if everything was alright. Maybe it's a common occurrence and she is used to throwing away full plates of food, who knows? Anyway, this was a one star review but she was very nice so I gave her one. read more

I have been going to Rocco's for 20+ years. I had a work event where I needed to feed 25 people the evening of November 26, the night before Thanksgiving. We did not want Turkey. I choose Rocco's for the great food i had experienced the past 20 years, plus i wanted to go to a local restaurant. A week prior I stopped by the restaurant and spoke to the manager. With their suggestions I ordered a half a sheet of Baked Ziti, half a sheet of Lasagna, several hoagies, garlic bread, and salad. Total $350. When I arrived on November 26 at the agreed time, the food was packaged and ready to go. I paid and the staff helped me carry it to my car. Th food was delicious and my team enjoyed it very much. It was enough for everyone with few left overs. the left overs were finished the next day. I was very satisfied with the experience. For future work meals, I will go to Rocco's again. Pizza was good, crust was crispy on outside and soft in center just like I like it. Delicious baked Eggplant Parm - the stand-out dish was among the best I've had! The baked eggplant casserole smothered in cheese and marinara sauce hit the spot! It's very rich and I prepared some fusilli noodles at home that paired really well with the eggplant. The generous side of spaghetti with a hearty ragu sauce was tasty. My only gripe is the stale garlic bread. Hubby enjoyed the BLT sandwich. Would be nice if fries came with the sandwich instead of chips and not have to pay the upcharge. The brick oven pizza was nice, but nothing spectacular. The pizzas had a nice charred edges and cooked all the way through. I got the Plain Cheese Pizza app and added red onions and spinach. Surprisingly, the spinach was all diced up with ricotta and tasted more like a pasta filling (manicotti or ravioli) rather than spinach leaves that I expected. It was a nice pop of flavor. We have been regular customers at Rocco's for over 40 years. We moved away so only get here now whenever we visit the DC area a few times a year. The food remains outstanding with the unmistakable tastes from Mrs J's original recipes still meticulously prepared to this day. Recently we tried Veal Parmigiana, Fettuccine Alfredo, both outstanding. We also tried their magnificent Gondola Pizza (sausage, mushrooms and extra cheese) on the fabulous New York style crust which we couldn't finish and took the leftovers home. Not good. We were in the area and decided to try a non-chain restaurant. We ordered mozzarella sticks and caprese salad for an appetizer. The caprese was ok, however the fresh mozzarella was sliced very thin. The mozzarella sticks were generic frozen mozzarella sticks that you get at Costco. We ordered a calzone (crust was hard) steak and cheese sub (tasted like fish) and a chicken parmigiana sub (had no flavor and was obviously a generic frozen patty). Total cost $64.23 before tip for 3 people. The best part of the meal was the birch beer soda. I hate to give small businesses bad reviews, but I couldn't recommend this place. read more

Watch out for shady math! I was with my two toddlers and realized this initially. When I asked the manager he said it was a credit card surcharge. I was surprised since I hadn't noticed that on the menu, but took his word for it and left. I later went back to the receipt and did the math, to realize my bill had an additional 17% that was not called out anywhere on the receipt. I was willing to accept a 3-4% charge but 17% makes me feel like I got ripped off. read more

I've never liked this place but my family decided to order from here. I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was awful. The chicken was hard and had no flavor, the white wine sauce was thin and liquidy like soup, and the mushrooms and onions hadn't even been cooked prior to adding the dish together! I'm an old Rocco's fan from back in the late 80's/early 90's, so I was delighted to find myself there again today for the first time in decades. We enjoyed the Sanchy's Delite pizza as takeout, with cannolis for dessert. Quick service and AMAZINGLY delicious toppings on the pizza. (Tomatoes, garlic, spinach, feta, mozzarella.) Crust was a bit overdone/over-crunchy on the edges, but overall it was a great reminder of the yumminess of Rocco's.The cannolis were EXTRA delicious - don't miss them! Stopped in for lunch today. From the minute I walked in the door Titto my server was phenomenal. Sat outside had 2 slices lunch special added pepperoni and sausage portions we're great,pizza was perfect crispy crust just how I like it. Worst costumer service I've ever experienced! We tried to place an order to go, once the order was placed we tried to ask of how many pieces of wings are offered the person gave us an attitude and asked us to call back once we are ready to order and have made our decision. He mentioned that they are very busy and can't stay on the phone to explain of the options of the wings and once we arrived barely less than 10 costumers were there . Very disappointed but can't complain of the taste and how amazing the food is. Very unfortunate that we won't be back because of the worst costumer service we received. read more

I was there last night for dinner and enjoyed an appetizer (wings), house salad and Manicotti. First, my server was excellent, quick, personable and attentive. Second the wings were perfectly cooked (crispy outside, juicy inside). Main coarse did not disappoint. The meatballs, ahhhh the meatballs, the best in town. I LOVE Italian food and try to eat it once a week and patronize local businesses. I don't always eat at Rocco's but I should. The quality of Ingredients (very high) vs. the price is the best in town. If you haven't given Rocco's a try in a while, go back and check it out. My favorite observation was that there were plenty of servers available, most of which were there pre pandemic which shows me Mike (owner) takes care of his staff and they are loyal. read more

This is more like 3.5 stars but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was our first time. The good: - ordered carry out and they were right on time. They said ready in 15-20 minutes and on the dot that's what it was. - solid Margherita pizza. NY style, large and brick oven. Good crisp crust with enough flavor to pack a mini punch. Needs improvement: - ingredients didn't seem super fresh. No flavor popped out. The mozzarella didn't seem super high quality. Since I didn't get any other dish, I will try them again with a few choices and perhaps give a followup review. read more
