This was a much anticipated visit to this restaurant as there was a lot of hype leading up to the opening. Like Matt V's says, I too really wanted to like this place but it totally disappointed. First, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Kudos to them. Second, the place should be called Rockin' Beer because the beer list is impressively extensive and varied. The fish part is not so good. We were first told that they were all out of tuna, Ipswich clams (I don't even think there are any more Ipswich clams left on the planet), and the crab encrusted catfish (it was a Sunday night, no crowd, holiday weekend with Monday off - they must have had busy Friday and Sat. nights). Ashame because my friend and I wanted to have two out of those three items. We shared the spicy oyster appetizer which was excellent but the entrees were disappointing. I had the grouper (served with clams, shrimp and linguini in a marinara sauce). The little voice in my head shouting "Never eat grouper unless you're in Florida!", should have listened. It was mealy. I also felt the clams and shrimp were overcooked. My friend had a scallop dish and she said they too were mealy. Not a good sign when a place is supposed to be focused on fish. The sound level was a bit loud and the place wasn't even crowded. Decor is nice and cozy. We skipped dessert and parted with a good sum of green for our mediocre dinner. This is a relatively new restaurant in the Village of Northport. At first entrance, the place seems very nice & upscale. We had looked at the menu online & decided to stop in for a quick bite at lunch. First I ordered an Unsweetened Ice Tea & they have it out of the bar like soda. Meaning it's a mix. When an upscale restaurant isn't brewing their own tea (how hard is it to boil a tea bag in water...) that's a bad sign. They had "Daily Specials" on the board, but found you couldn't ask for sauce on the side, or to say no mayo on the Turkey sandwich... As all of the food is pre-prepared. I would expect that in a McDonalds, but an upscale restaurant they should have a chef in the back making the meals as they are ordered, not just heating them up. The menu online is also not updated. Meaning they offer Shrimp cocktail online. When we went to order it, they said it's not available, but yet they had a Shrimp dish on the menu.... Basically, they are taking Costco type food & reheating it. They are also priced a bit high. If they actually made the food to order, it would be worth it, but to have a Costco type of food heated up, is not worth the value. The place has a nice atmosphere, so stick with this place as a place to grab a beer & then head down to Skippers, or Main Street Cafe. read more

SSSLLLOOOWWWW service. Food is nothing special. Waited 20 mins to get our drink order. When it finally came, it only was the beer orders. After another 5-10 mins we had to flag down the server and ask where the wine orders were. Overpriced salmon was not grilled as menu stated, more like deep fried. Fish tacos were cold. Chicken and waffle special was like Eggo waffles with breaded, deep fried chicken nuggets. Will not be returning. read more

rockin' fish is rockin'. amazing beer selection and good appetizers. favorites include the black bean burger, chorizo chili, and the doughnut burger (you should try that). fun to sit outside in the warmer weather, right on the main strip of main street far enough away from all the touristy spots of northport. read more

All the food here is excellent! My whole family loves this place. Only complaint I could make would be the size of the sushi roll special they had, it was way too small but the tuna tacos, the mussels, the fried pickles-- all phenomenal. Good deals on oysters too. read more

Really cold last Tuesday evening. Dropped in to enjoy one of the great craft beers that are always changing. Found a spot at the bar and was greeted right away. Noticed the "serious pig" sandwich and had to find out more. It was a special and it WAS special. When it arrived at the bar it was so hot I had to give it a minute or two. Sliced roast pork, moist salty and full of flavor. Cheese and arugula topped this amazing sandwich! It came with fries or a salad. I picked the salad and that was my only mistake because it came with a little jus on the side and that would have made a perfect dipper for the fries. Next time I know! Enjoyed it almost too much. Washed it down with a Spider Bite IPA. Great meal, great service! read more

Had a bite with my wife Saturday the atmosphere is what you would expect for a nice pub.I thought the Pasta with Scallops would be better with the larger Dry Scallops instead of the Small ones.My Wife had the Fried Oyster Poe Boy The oysters were formed into a Patty instead of the whole Oyster.Try the same at the Lobster Roll on the North Fork and you'll see what I mean.Would go back. read more

Loved this place after a disaster visit at feed and grain restaurant. The service was terrific and friendly. The food at lunchtime was excellent and the helpings were generous. The two stars are for beautiful outdoor area ambiance and a great selection of craft beer on tap. The service is horrendous! Not just once, three consecutive visits with bad service. Please don't ask your outdoor server for tabasco with your oysters. She has to huff and puff all the way inside to grab the bottle. Oysters were warm(YUCK!) and served over wilting mesclun greens. Oysters should be served over ice!! My sister asked if the goat cheese served on a salad was pasteurized and the server refused to ask the kitchen, she said, "I would just assume it isn't", so we didn't order anything else. We finished our fries and left! We didn't want to keep bothering her. On my last visit I was mid order when she just walked away from the table!! What??!! The food quality has gone downhill also. My second meal here and this was a disaster. My family and I arrived at 6pm on a beautiful Saturday night and put our name down for a table outside. We were told the wait was about 35 minutes. We were seated 65 minutes from the time we put our name down. We asked for a minute to look at the menu and our waiter disappeared for more than 10 minutes when he knew we were starving from more than an hour wait. We placed out order and asked that the fish tacos, salad and muscles all come at the same time as appetizers. I also asked if I could get the mahi mahi dish with something other than linguini(maybe a veggie) and he told me that he doesn't do substitutions. So I ordered a different dish. After waiting quite a while for our appetizers we asked for bread. The waiter brought 3 rolls for a table of four and did we really need to ask for bread? The muscles arrived they were very good. About 10 minutes later when the muscles were gone my salad arrived, it was delicious. We waited and waited until finally we asked another waiter if he could check on our fish taco appetizer which never arrived and our waiter was missing in action. Another 10 minutes later the fish tacos were delivered to our table with an apology. We had not ordered any alcoholic beverages as we had drinks during the very long wait for our table and had had enough. Yet the waiter, in an attempt to make up for the fish taco problem offerred us a round of drinks. Only 2 adults at the table mind you and we were not drinking so why such an offer. Our entrees arrived and it is now 8:15pm. My swordfish dinner was cold and a sloppy mess on a plate that would have gotten the chef chopped if he were on that show. My husband enjoyed his burger and my son had no comment on his linguini lobster/shrimp dish just because he didn't want to make a really back experience worse. But my daughter did not hold back and said her shrimp were overcooked and asked if lobster was supposed to be so chewy that you couldn't swallow it. I sent my swordfish back, my family finished their meals and we got the check. The waiter needed to point out he took my entree off the bill? Of course it should have been taken off the bill. It was awful and a sloppy cold mess on a plate. I cannot believe my daughter and I chose to drive all the way to Northport to have our birthday dinner at this restaurant only to have a really bad experience, not to mention it wasn't cheap. We will not be returning. And word to the wise and those who asked if it was worth the wait, no it is not worth waiting or your time and money. read more

This was my first time here at Rockin Fish. I had heard great things but I wanted to try it out for myself. I came in and was greeted by by Meredith whom was very friendly and let my friend and I sit in a window seat even though we were only two people and the table clearly seats more than that. Our server Meredith brought over menus and helped my friend figure out a good wine. It's always a pleasure to have knowledgeable waitstaff especially considering my friend can be very demanding. After the drinks arrived we both asked a lot of questions about the menu. After some informative descriptions and a little help from Meredith we decided on the lamb burger and the ahi tuna. My lamb was perfectly cooked medium rare and the Greek salad that came with it contained all the classic Greek flavors I was craving from the feta cheese and olives to the delicious dressing. My friend ordered the ahi tuna which was a gorgeous plate of food. Very colorful and large. It was seared to rare and although I don't eat tuna I was tempted because it looked so good. Meredith kindly wrapped up our leftovers which weren't much because we could not stop eating. At the end of the meal we had two espressos and sat and relaxed. When Meredith brought our bill, my friend who is a Chatty Cathy started asking questions about the town and we had a great conversation with her who seemed to be just as informed about northport as she was about the menu. As we were getting ready to leave the chef Rob came over and asked us if we enjoyed everything. It was a pleasant surprise to speak with him as we learned about his passion for fishing and food. It just made the experience even more memorable. I consider myself and my friend foodies and pretty good judges of character and based off of our first experience I can say with confidence that Rockin Fish has a customer for life. read more

I love this place. I have been a customer since they opened. Going regularly. The food has always been great. You can't go many places that have great fish AND great burgers. I don't claim to be a food critic or feel I deserve any special service. Every time I've gone the service has been great. The beers have been cold. The food has been delicious. I know people like to complain just to complain. These people leave opinions that are untrustworthy and deceiving. It is easy to complain about one bad thing when YOU have a bad day. But it seems harder for people to be positive. I suggest that you should go. Check it out. Sit outside, sit at the bar, or sit at a table inside. Just remember, if you go in to anything with a bad attitude chances are you won't be happy. Have fun. Relax. Eat. Stay positive and don't suck. That's the only way to go through life. awful! The bartender was drunk, (we actually saw her drinking many times from the tap) ignored us, took 15 minutes to get a drink between her drinking and chatting with her friends! Ate at the bar, bad mistake because of the awful bartender. We asked what the swordfish came with and she said "the whole fish" SERIOUSLY!! She then said potatoes and vegetables, which when it arrived it had neither. It was small, thin, burnt, overpriced. I asked to speak to the manger who was very mousy and seemed afraid of the bartender. I explained that we had specifically asked what it came with as my husband was diabetic and needed carbs with his meal. I pointed out to the manager that the bartender was clearly drunk and drinking with her friends, who were at the bar, and ignoring customers. She just shrugged. Disgusted with the place, service, and food. Would never go back and would certainly NEVER recommend. Can not understand how such an awful place can be on that lovely Main Street of Northport. Cannot understand how anyone could give it a good review unless they know someone there! read more
