I visit Dallas a lot for business trips and I went to Rocking Crab twice during my one week stay there. So I can say this is my number one seafood joint in Dallas. You can pick mild, hot or blazing hot on the spicy level so no problem. If it is too spicy then you can ask for a side sauce of mild. Warning, this place is a lot of fun and get ready to get your hands dirty. I heard that everything is bigger in Texas and this place proves it; the shrimp is huge and the king crab legs was not disappointing. And don't forget the lobster. I suggest for 3 people ordering 2 pounds of shrimp. For 4 people, we ordered 3 pounds of king crab, 2 pounds of shrimp. Order a side of steamed rice or fries to with your meal and must pour the sauce over the rice or dip your fries in the sauce. They constantly checked on us for anything we needed. The shrimp, fries and the potatoes were really good, as well as the sauce. We showed up at around 830pm and we sat straight down and have drinks on our table in less than 2 minutes. I'm always down to try new seafood/crawfish joints, so we drove here on a Saturday night. Glad there was no wait & the service was fairly quick! But lol @ all the people comparing this place to boiling crab. The food taste nothing like BC.. We got crawfish & the shrimp/crab leg combo, which comes with corn and potatoes. Rocking crab sauce has a very unique flavor. I've never had crawfish with that type of sauce before.. The sauce is super thick, and has a paste like texture. the sauce did have a nice flavor though, w/ some raw garlic inside, and the heat wasn't bad (kind of wish I got it spicer bc mild wasn't anything). Some places I can eat crawfish without salt/lime/pepper but here I had to make my sauce bc the inside of the crawfish was not too flavorful compared to the shrimps. We personally liked the shrimp and crab legs better than the crawfish. Only thing that I tried that was similar to BC was their cajun fries lol. Which was good! Wish it came out a bit hotter though. This place is not as good as boiling crab let me point that out first. I have been to boiling crab a handful of times, and their flavor, seasoning, and spice is always on point and delicious. I have never been able to find any other place with the same concept to have the same flavoring as boiling crab. The seafood, however, is really fresh and delicious. The king crab especially was our favorite. The service was okay as well...I felt like we did not need much attention but when we did need something a waiter was not around. This place was not even packed for a Saturday. In the end when we got our bill we gave them two credit cards to have it split in the middle and the guy only charged one card....And again when we wanted to tell them of our issue no one was around. Last time we went there was in September - I forgot to update this. They served us frozen crawfish but cashier swore it was fresh. Except they weren't fresh, tail meat was tough and the flavor was really bad. The cashier claimed it was because crawfish was no longer in season so they were small. That doesn't explain why they were tough and tasted rancid. We've actually had frozen crawfish at other places that tasted light years better than whatever it was they served us. I don't know why this place has the reviews it does for old overcooked seafood and that weird tomato based sauce they slather on everything. I'm writing this review on the toilet , so needless to say my digestive system didn't find it too appealing either. ‍ Between my fellow Louisianan and I, we spent about $100 our first time there and vowed to never go back again. If for nothing else, for the fact they're claiming to sell Creole/Cajun style food and it's not even the Great Value rip off version of any type of Louisiana cooking. Not even a percentage point similar to Louisiana Cajun/Creole cooking. If you want real Louisiana style boiled seafood go to Bayou Cat, Bayou Market, or even Aunt Irene's. Shell Shack is a better pick than this, my goodness it was bad. My friend said that God forsaken sauce they slather on everything tasted like ketchup with cayenne. I at least gave them the benefit of the doubt that they used tomato sauce... and cayenne. And on top of that, our seafood was overcooked and the crab legs were not fresh. I was so over this place I threw away two whole clusters of crab legs. It was hard to do, but they were ruined. It was just that bad. This is prob the first time my follow Yelpers have been so wrong. I ordered the combo 1 and added 1/2lb more of shrimp. I chose hot with garlic seasoning. Our server was very attentive and made sure we were happy. The only thing that made me think twice were the shrimp. I took a bite and saw a big thick black vein and it really grossed me out. Next time I will ask if they have a deveined version. Was there at 3:00pm for a early dinner... One word.. Disappointing.... For starters they cook all their seafood on way Cajun... But you can decide how hot you want it.. 3 levels.. The service here isn't all that good. Whenever I come in with my friend to eat, none of the employees greet us, or make us feel welcome. It's an awkward silence... The first time I came here, my friend tried asking for some melted butter. She raised her hands probably more than four times, called out 'Excuse me.' along with that, and NONE of the employees assisted us. All the females sat in the middle table of the restaurant, talking, talking, TALKING. They don't seem to care at all. Besides the employees, I want to say my fourth time here was a disappointment. I ordered 1 lb of "live" crawfish, and a piece of corn. The crawfish was SUPER small, so tiny. I found only one big crawfish in my plastic bag they serve it in. One pound was $8.99? Sauce was not good. I ordered it Cajun style, hot. It was not hot, not spicy at all. When my friend asked the manager why the crawfish was so small, all he could say was, "It's usually that small right now.". I don't know. He could've given a more reasonable response to that. He didn't seem apologetic at all. One pound use to be $7.99 here, and their crawfish were pretty big. I'm not even sure if the crawfish was 'live' as they claimed it to be that day. Legit. Wings were good here, even better than the crawfish. The bad: Crawfish taste and quality are both a resounding big, fat NOPE. First of all, they were small and didn't taste fresh, despite the fact that we are still in season. I've seen tiny lobsters at most other places. Also, seasoning here is so bland and messy. It's just red sauce on top of red sauce that gets everywhere. There's no "clean" way of eating this type of seafood, but I was elbow deep in splotches of red. And it didn't necessarily taste like anything. Can't say it tastes Cajun nor can I say it tatted similar to the Asian style. It's just bland and unsatisfying. The verdict: Skip. Now for the actual review: My friends decided to give this place a shot when we are staying at a nearby hotel for conference. Having been to NOLA, I had a pretty high expectation for crawfish and essentially any food that came in a bag. Let me be honest and say that Rocking Crab did not disappoint! The overall ambiance of the restaurant kinda reminds more more of a log cabin in the middle of the woods than a Dallas dining establishment. The staff were very friendly and allowed us to stew in our indecision until we pretty much just ordered everything: a pound of shrimp, crawfish, 2 pounds of snowcrabs, the combo with shrimp, sausage and potatoes, curley fries and sweet potato fries. Interestingly, of all of these, my absolute favorite was the red potatoes that were able to soak up the amazing spicy broth from the crustaceons and they had the absolutely perfect feel and spice. The crawfish were good, although the tamale is definitely very muddy and I'd avoid it. The shrimp was actually delicious as well and I had almost no ssies removing the shell from the shrimp (and of course, the shrimp heads were to die for). Unfortunately, i did not get a chance to try out the crabs, but they were well loved by my friends. The sausages were good, but nothing to write home about. Oh yeah, the curley fries are double fried, spiced starchy fatty sticks of heaven, don't skipped out on them. The sweet potato fries paled in comparison (but it's a pretty tough competition). While the restaurant does offer bibs and gloves, if you're gonna be breaking the crawfish shells, the gloves will rip and your fingers will smell like the sauce, which is not necessarily a bad thing. At the end of the day, we all had a great time and spent $100 for the 6 of us (including alcohol) and we felt incredibly stuffed. This was a great find and I highly recommend it. We ran out of water and soda but we couldn't get our waitress to come over because she was sitting down the whole time eating. I more than understand and want people to eat on their lunch break, but you can't be serving our table and also be on our lunch break at the same time. Good flavor!! I like them crazy hot and they delivered it! Me and hubby ordered 1lb of shrimps, combo #3 which is sausages, corn, potatoes and two things of snow crab. It was good flavor and exrta spicy. Shrimps were juicy but half of snow crab was kind of empty. And we ordered 6 bottles of Miller light but that was mistake and we couldn't finish it. I hope they don't open every single bottle we ordered. Wish we could returned it but it was all open :-( our bill came out little over $70 and I think it was fair.
