Finding decent burger places are kind of tough because most places taste pretty much the same. I feel like the type of ground beef or condiments used is what usually makes a burger truly unique. The burgers at Rockit Char Grill, I wouldn't necessarily say is similar to every other burger, but better than most other places I've been to. The price and size of the burger are awesome and love their selection of fries! I would say this place is a step higher than your average fast-food chain burger and just enjoy the fact that they don't shy away from packing your burger with all the ingredients you expect from their menu. The burgers also have a nice smokey taste, which I feel is uncommon to have when ordering from any restaurant/fast food place, in general. The only unappetizing thing about the burger was little chewy parts of the burger.. like there were little balls of a tendon or something? I'm unsure as this is actually the first time I've encountered it.. not sure if it may be the quality of meat they use. Would I order again? I was actually lucky enough one night to get here when it was a bit chilly outside and there weren't a lot of people inside because they made everything hot and fresh. I just had a burger and garlic fries and while it took a bit longer than expected to get the food (10 min.), it was clear that it had been made just for me, and was tasty and totally worth it. It looks like this place really needs to figure out how to make food quickly when they are busy, but if you are lucky enough to catch them when they are slow, it might be actually worth your time. read more

I came here with a friend while in the Haystack and was expecting better since the reviews looked solid.I don't know what it was but the flavor of the burger charred cooked medium was just ok. The shake was excellent and the fries were on point. I dont know if I will be back anytime soon. I may check out the other options when in area. read more

Super cute, super quick, super good! Early dinner before a movie next door included two burgers, regular fries and sweet potato fries. All came out piping hot and tasted wonderful! It used to be called Red Rocket not too long ago before the management changed. However, this place is exactly the same as it was before. Nothing is different. So, if you liked this place before, you'll like it now. If you didn't like the place before, you won't like it now, either. The only subtle difference is that now I believe you get $1 off if you order regular fries and a medium drink with your sandwich. Personally, I really liked this place before. The burgers always had that nice charred taste to them (like they just came from the barbecue pit) and the fries are near perfect every time I order them. The stuff they use here is not cheap and you can tell if it is prepared correctly. This place has a pretty good amount of options from burgers, chicken sandwiches, steak burgers, fish and chips, and I believe they have grilled sausage here, too. To be on the safe side, I would just stick with either chicken or beef here. I can't imagine a place that specializes in char grill food serving good fried fish. I usually order either the bacon and cheese rocket (no mayo and pepper jack cheese) or I'll order the S.F. rocket. Don't quote me on the names of these burgers (they may have changed under the new management). Anyway, I can't complain about the quality of the food here. My only true complaint is that they don't have enough beers on tap. They only have 2 (Shock Top and Superfuzz) and they were out of Shock Top when I came there. I'm guessing on the Superfuzz one because I can't honestly remember the name of that one. Some say that these guys are a bit overpriced for what you get. The problem with burgers is that people are so accustomed to burgers being cheap that they cannot imagine paying over $10 for a burger meal and most burgers are served in fast food joints. If you get a burger anywhere other than McDonalds, Rockit Char Grill prices are a norm. I can see that argument if you get a plain cheeseburger or something, but if you get a decent burger with decent ingredients, you'll see the difference. If you go somewhere like Chili's or Applebee's you'll end up paying around the same price for a burger meal, and I guess that's what you are competing against if you order from here. I can't think of one fast food burger that matches the quality of burgers here. Now, you may find a hidden gem of a burger joint in the Bay Area that can match and beat these guys. However, if you haven't found that place yet, I suggest you go here since there are no other quality burgers around this area. Everything else in this area is fast food burgers (McDonalds, Wendy's, Jack-in-the-box, Carl's Jr., etc.). I mean, if you want to save some money, then just go to a fast food place. Perfect experience? No. Good enough to go back again, absolutely. Grand opening during a busy street fair, when people are already looking forward to trying a new place they've been seeing gear up in the community certainly created a crowd. As a result, we did wait a bit for our order. However, once received it was just what we ordered and prepared perfectly. I've worked in restaurants and understand they can be challenging to orchestrate. Judging a new place with heavy criticism on their first day of business, isn't really fair. So after seeing a movie about food with my mom, we were famished. Luckily this place was next door. Entering, I felt a good vibe, and the guy behind the counter was incredibly friendly, helpful, and funny. He helped us in deciding what we would like based on our preferences. A big shoutout to him, he was awesome! I chose the Southwest Rocket sandwich with garlic fries, and a churro. My mom went with the Shroom n' Grilled Onion Rocket with a strawberry shake. We got it all to go. As we waited for our food, we enjoyed the laid back vibe of the restaurant. The place is small, but cute, with two giant TV's that were showing the A's game. They also serve bottled beer, from what I saw at the counter. My mom received her shake first and it was a perfect malt shake. Reminded me of this little diner back in Georgia...thick, creamy, strawberry - it was very good. I might be lactose intolerant but I'll risk it to try their chocolate shake next time! We got our food and went home. I noticed they wrapped our sandwiches in aluminum foil which is smart - it was still hot and fresh. My sandwich was HUGE but I was so hungry I ate all of it. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I ever had: --the chicken was moist, tender, full of flavor --the bread reminded me of a ciabatta bread and it held up well with each bite --all the toppings enhanced the sandwich, especially the avocado and the southwest rocket sauce. It had a nice spice to it The garlic fries were good and I appreciated the huge garlic chunks in it, it tasted fresh. My churro was huge but was a great ending to my meal. My mom loved her mushroom burger and was quiet while eating it. That's how I knew it was good! I feel like the prices were reasonable in what I got. The name "Red Rocket" grosses me out. Everyone knows what that means. If you don't, google it. I asked if the owner was American because no one growing up in the US would ever use that name. It's like calling your business "boner burger" or "clitty cookies". In addition to the weird name, the logo looks like a sperm. It's all weird. This however really does not affect my review. Just something I wanted to point out I thought was funny. Burgers were over priced and below average. Buns were just from target or something. Fries were gross. The patties seemed cheap, like from Costco. They stated they were hand formed but I don't see that here. I felt ripped off. $24 for two burgers, one basket of fries, and a drink!!? You gotta be ballsy to go up against Val's, which is a five star burger place and a better overall value than here. Turn the fountain machine around so I don't have to go ask for a refill. It shows you are cheap and trying to control costs. Huge turn off for me when business's attempt to nickel and dime customers. Employees say "welcome to red rocket" 5 times and when leaving all of them bid you a farewell "thank you for coming to red rocket". Is there an over-greeters anonymous meeting these jokers can attend. It's like when you go into Wells Fargo and every employee has to say hello and ask how you day went. I dropped by this place the other day because I wanted something to eat and I sure as heck did not want anything else on the Hayward Strip. Per usual, I took a while to decide what I wanted but I went ahead and ordered the SF Rocket. Why? Avocado Relish, that's why. If you're a big fan of avocado and red onion, then yes, this is the burger for you. I also ordered the rocket fries... my inner self also said, "I can finish these no problem!" My inner self obviously was feeling confident and my stomach was saying, "NAH, you actually can't finish that." So, My advice is to only order one and share with someone else. It's a bit difficult to choose what burger to get because everything ends in 'tomato, lettuce, and cheese.' There is only one thing that would make each of the burgers different on the menu. This place does burgers well. I recommend the Blue Rocket... or the Ole Blue, or whatever they're calling it now. They've undergone some changes recently but the jury's still out. First, they dropped off Eat24 which is how I found the place, and primarily how I preferred to order. Now, I call in, wait on hold, and place an order AND THEN pay when I get there. It's cumbersome because use a slow tablet as a register. It's typically slow, but the last time I stopped by, the card reader was down so I waited 20 minutes just to pay and leave with my food I ordered almost an hour before, in total. Almost everything I've had there is good so I keep coming back but between the sweet potatoe fries that more and more just bits from the bottom of the bag and clunky service, they're slipping. Had lunch with my colleagues at Red Rocket today. We needed a quick bite for lunch in Downtown Hayward and this fit the bill. You order at the counter and grab your food. They have several different Char Burgers and Char Sandwiches. They have grilled chicken and fish as well as salads. On the recommendation of the staff I ordered the Smokey Bacon & Cheddar Chicken Rocket with Pepper Jack Cheese and Garlic Fries. Our order was up fairly quickly. My sandwich was perfect! I loved the sauce they put on it and there bacon ha great flavor! The lettuce and onions were really fresh. On my next visit I will definitely try the salad. It seemed that the burgers were what's good so I went with the bbq rocket. I was disappointed when I was charged extra to add cheese to an already pricey burger. I was pleased with the burger. It was good. My girlfriend went with the cheese stake rocket. It was cooked to a chewy consistency. We added garlic fries which the cooks were too generous with the garlic, great for those who love garlic tho, and we purchased two beers all for around $35.00. Been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally had the chance on a Sunday evening before catching a movie at the nearby movie theater. Walked through the front door and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff behind the counter. This is a counter service restaurant where you order and pay up front then pick up your order when it's done. After looking over the menu, while the cashier explained that all their burgers are 1/3 lb and cooked medium well, and that during football games, beer is on special for $3.50, I decided on the S.F. Burger, which is avocado relish, pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles for $7.35 + tax - I also added bacon (4 strips) for an additional $1.25 and got a Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA in the bottle since their draft selection was sparse and much to be desired (Shock Top and another beer I can't remember but didn't care for). My total bill was $13.80 - $9.10 for the burger with added bacon + $3.50 beer (plus a couple bucks thrown in for a tip) - Rather pricey for a counter service place so I won't be back here too often. After finding a seat among several to choose from (booth or center room tables) I had a fairly short wait until my order was called and I picked it up. Ingredients were fresh and the burger was rather tasty and polished off fairly quickly. Overall a tasty burger that went well with my beer. It's nice to see more dining options downtown. Garlic fries were revolting and cold. Onion rings were grease bombs. Chicken sandwich buns were twice the size of the tough, unseasoned chicken and were stale. Avocado was hard. Burger was bland. Milkshake had ice chunks in it and was served with a straw that collapsed at the first sip. Salad was the only thing that was ok. The rock it cheese fries are the best here! Lots of cheese and crispy meat smothered in a yummy poutine like brown gravy. The blue cheese burger, mushroom and hangover burger are juicy, flavorful and huge! All the burgers are great you really can't go wrong. They also have a nice choice of bottled beer (Stella, Pacifico). The onion rings are delicious probably some of the best I've ever had. I don't like friend food but I tried them and they're so crispy without being greasy. The sides come in baskets and are pretty large portions so you can easily share. We ordered the combo with fries and drinks. I love with a passion fries! Especially steak cut fries. Here they give you a HUGE (Trump voice) basket of fries that not even I could finish!! Believe me I can put away fries for days and I have the cholestrol to prove it! My hamburger was the Shroom n' grilled onion Rocket burger with the mushrooms and grilled onions tucked underneath the cheese that kept it all in place. The meat was juicy and tasty except mine didnt come with fresh lettuce or tomatoe so I bummed some lettuce and tomoate off my son. The bacon cheeseburger was also very tasty and juicy that was gone in record time. Hubby got the Blue cheese and bacon burger that was also excellent if you like that strong blue cheese taste. We all ate till our hearts and stomachs were full and for the price I think it is a good deal. I have paid way more for way less. I have to say the customer service here was exceptional. The cashier here was Hella nice and Hella coo. He went around asking everyone how they were. He was real attentive. Very good at his job. The cooks also are very nice. When I went to pick up the food, I had a nice convo with him and told him how their customer service was good and they were real nice people. This review is not about the food . We waited about 5 minutes then a women approached and said in a very rude tone and attitude that they were back up and we would have to wait . I was fine waiting a few minutes passed and other customers were lining up . One customer asked why no one was being served the women rudely again said people had to wait. I was excited to try this place out . But it's such a shame I got attitude and shitty service in less then 10 minutes . I'm not too sure why this place only has 3.5 stars, because it's great. We came in on a busy and warm Saturday evening right around dinner time. It's a classic burger menu to choose from and fries come separate and are enough to share with 2-3 people. The burgers are cooked medium well unless you specify and they will let you know that when you order, which is considerate. The service was impressive. Chris and some young girl was so nice. I had asked for our table to be wiped off, offering to do because they were busy and she said she would do it and was happy to so because it was her job. Chris, the guy at the register, was super friendly, like we've been buds for a long time and made sure to swing by our table to make sure we were doing ok. When leaving as well, the ladies said bye and hoped to see us again. People that pay attention to there customers, those are my type of people, so they got major points for that. Now for the food. My burger came Ima nice kaiser roll, big ups for that. All the produce came in the side, so you can add what you like and was very fresh. The fries were good and seasoned well and they didn't skimp on the garlic and there ranch is, in my opinion some of the best. (I'm not a fan of hidden valley or Kens). They have a section of beer and they have a happy hour for it. I'm not too sure the times and it days, but I know we got Blue Moons for $3.75. They keep the place really clean, and my only gripe was the wait time between orders was inconsistent and a little long. My friend got her food, and it was another 5-7 min before mine came out and we ordered right after each other. Perhaps they had a phone order or something, but it did seem to be a long wait time. First timer!!!! For 2 sandwiches, 1 garlic fries, 1 cheese fries & 2 sodas I paid $43. It wasn't worth the money to me! I'm not saying it's horrible, but it's not worth $43! Although my mushroom burger was decently tasty, it was too sloppy to eat. Every bite the buns were sliding and the meat and cheese was coming out. The garlic fries had good flavor, but was suuupppeerrrr soggy! I don't know anybody who likes soggy fries. Steak on the cheese fries was really tough and very little flavor. Tried this place with family last Friday night. Ordered the bacon and cheese burger with an extra patty and egg, kamikaze fries and a Modelo beer. The burger was so good and so big. The fries were delicious too. I was so full and completely satisfied. I also ordered another beer on tap from Alameda Island Brewing Company, it was 7% alcohol. It tasted good and gave me a good buzz. I was looking for the beer at BevMo the next day but they didn't have it. I guess I have to come back here or go to the microbrewery in Alameda to get it but it doesn't matter because these burgers are worth it. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely return. Then the person at last approached the counter, but they started taking down an online order instead. They asked me, "what do you want?" But then when I started to order, they said "hold on" and kept entering stuff in the computer. So.... If u want the food, order online. Apparently they'll give you priority over ppl who show up in person. I support workers. I've never walked out of a place without ordering in my life nor have i ever written a negative yelp review.
