After taking a 5AM class at the gym I headed to the locker room to shower before work. While I was getting out of the shower my engagement ring slipped out of my hand and fell into down the drain. As one could imagine, I was absolutely distraught and panicked about who I could call so early to get my ring back as soon as possible. After several calls to any number I could get my hands on, I was able to get a plumber there around 8:30. After about 3 1/2 hours of efforts the plumber packed up, gave me the bill, and left... my ring still in the drain. Having realized this plumber's efforts were not going well, the gym staff, who were also wonderful, had put a call into one of their clients by the name of Andy. They repeatedly told me, "He will make sure we get it back. He's the best." I didn't know who Andy was, but at this point I was desperate and willing to try anything. Little did I know at the time Andy was the president of Rodenhiser Plumbing & Heating and he was coming out on his day off to help me, a complete stranger, get my ring out of the drain. I'll be honest, after several hours of attempts by the first plumber I had begun to lose hope. However, when Andy showed up all of that changed. Before he was even through the doors he told me, confidently, that he would get my ring back. Because he was originally headed to Cape Cod for the day, he was without any of his tools or equipment. After checking out the drain and spotting my ring several feet down, he calmly told me he needed to run down to the store to get a shop vac. When he returned he attached a pipe to the end of the shop vac hose, sealed it with duct tape, and after about 5 minutes he had my engagement ring in his hand. He made it look so easy. I can't say enough about Andy. He not only recovered my 1 1/2 year old engagement ring, but he did so out of the goodness of his heart. The gym called him and he came out to help me, no questions asked. Once he arrived he was professional and confident, yet personable, kind, and extremely sensitive to my situation. My husband and I just bought a house and Rodenhiser will be our go-to company for plumbing and heating from here on out. We've had a great experience with Rodenhiser so far and look forward to continuing our relationship with them. We had Jonathan come out to do an electrical assessment on our newly purchased home. He showed up on time and was professional, friendly, and helpful throughout the visit. He carefully assessed each of my areas of concern and offered expert advice on how to address the issues. His estimate was based on competitive pricing for the issues, and he offered a substantial discount for completing all the jobs on my list. I decided to sign up for the home repair interest-free credit card they offer through Wells Fargo, and the whole process of scheduling the work and organizing the finances was easy. Kathy and the customer service representatives are knowledgable and helpful, and everything was handled quickly via phone and email. Within one week, we had a substantial amount of electrical work completed, none of which was emergency work. While Jonathan, Gabe, and Phil were here, they were professional the whole time, even when they were confronted with frustrating DIY work that had been done on our house by the previous owner. They were patient and considerate of my two small kids and anxious dog and worked around and with us easily. The work they did helped to bring my house's electrical up to code so it's safe for me and my family, and our electrical system now provides much more convenience and usability. We also needed a new dishwasher installed, and after the electricians finished updating the electrical for this, we decided to call in a plumber to do the installation and add a shut-off. Chris came the next morning, and again, he was professional, friendly, and patient with my kids and dog. He even hauled our old dishwasher away, which I didn't expect. In addition, he checked on a couple of other plumbing concerns and offered me an informal evaluation of the state of the plumbing in my home. All of this work was done for a very reasonable and competitive price. The professionalism and friendliness of the technicians and the customer service/office staff made the whole process painless. I definitely plan to use Rodenhiser in the future for all my electrical, plumbing, and HVAC needs, and I'm excited that they're also expanding into other areas! read more

I am writing one of only a few reviews we've ever written on a product or service, but felt it might be helpful to homeowners like us who wanted honest feedback on Rodenhiser Plumbing and Heating. Before contracting with Rodenhiser to install a new oil furnace, a 275 gallon storage tank and a couple of small improvements to our air ducts, we read many of the positive reviews of the company's work and a few expressing their concern as well (which were mostly issues of communication), which were all helpful to us. Our experience was very positive from beginning to end. We had five companies visit our house (three oil delivery / heating companies and two independents not related to oil business) and we received four proposals on work suggested and their costs. Rodenhiser's proposal was among the higher costs, but their professionalism and the quality of their response and work was the quality we looked for. They provided us with all their options and add-ons but did not antagonize us with those options we did not necessarily need, want, or afford and they offered a promotion available at the time. They were honest in their assessment and one of only two companies to calculate that our ducts/system were not adequately sized for central air conditioning sufficient to cool our upstairs rooms. Rodenhiser's sales and business office's Ryan B. and Dan P. were very professional, technically helpful and prompt in scheduling and being on time for every visit to estimate the work, prepare the contract, and sending in a super craftsman (Ed I. and assistant Peter G.) to install the furnace and fit it to the existing ducts. Ryan and Dan were very responsive to return all - every one - of our calls to answer questions and allay our concerns. Ed is a highly experienced installer with close attention to detail, patient to answer questions and proud of a 'well-done' job, right on down to painting a few scratches on the oil tank received during its delivery. We appreciated the coordination with Nicole H. on MassSave materials, it was smooth. The day before I was supposed to leave on a week long business trip, my furnace started acting up. Temperatures the day before were in single digits and I was concerned that I might come home to a frozen pipe disaster. To make matters worse, I was leaving at 4:00 am the next morning so whatever could be done had to be done that day. I called Rodenhiser and spoke to a very friendly person on the phone who assured me that I would be taken care of. All technicians were straight out because of the cold weather, but someone would be there by the end of the day. At 4:00, I received a phone call from Gary M who told me he was at my house, so I immediately left work to meet him there. When I got home, I explained to Gary what was going on and he immediately suspected that I might have air in my pipes (it's a forced hot water system). He preceded to purge the system of the air while diagnosing the root cause of the problem. After about an hour, he was done purging the system and figured out what was going wrong with it. He was extremely thorough in explaining and showing me where the problems were, and said that it was a job that could be done in about an hour and a half or so. At this point it was well after 5:30, but he knew that I was leaving early the next morning so he said he thought he had the parts on his truck and would stay late and do it if I wanted him to. Because of the cold weather, I knew he had already put in a long day, but I was more than happy to accept his offer to do the job. After giving him the thumbs up, I went back to work for a little over an hour to finish up what I was doing. Gary was very courteous and professional, so I felt comfortable leaving him alone there at my house. When I returned, he was finishing up the job and the furnace was running like new. In my opinion, he demonstrated top notch customer service and wanted to make sure I had peace of mind on my trip. I would highly recommend Rodenhiser for any plumbing or HVAC work. Our Problem: Frozen pipe that burst two years ago. The pipes went to the laundry machine and the shoddy plumber we hired to fix it did a crappy job. Considering everything we went through with said shoddy plumber we decided the problem could wait a couple of years. Since the pipe was supposedly removed the water turned off it didn't seem to be an issue we needed to tackle with any haste. Sadly shoddy plumber didn't even do a good job at shutting off the water that a slow drip did some damage to the wall and the floor. (That's a problem for a different day) Our Solution: Rodenhiser Joel C. was the best technician I have ever worked with and that is not me being humble for his sake or my own. Our house is old and has more problems then the average house. We've used other companies before to fix plumbing problems and they have only made things worse. Joel was professional and on time. He reviewed everything I wanted done, taking the time to walk around and explain how it would work, before giving me a quote. The quotes were more than reasonable considering there was a lot of fixing of previous plumbers screw ups and hack jobs. The second I signed the paperwork and agreed to the price he started work on the first of my projects and scheduled a date for the next one. It's rare to find someone to give a quote and then start work on the project. It's even rarer (or so it feels like to me) to find someone who is honest about what needs to be done and won't cut corners. I personally don't want someone who wants to cut corners. I want someone who will do the job and do it well so I don't have to hire someone else to come do the job again. Joel did all those things and more. He took a quick look around and gave me some helpful hints about how to keep my pipes in good flowing order and the products to use on said pipes. I have used Rodenhiser twice now and have nothing but praise for them. The first time was just for removing a small section of baseboard heating during a remodel and the second was for a much larger project: installing a heating system. I initially found Rodenhiser online and quickly realized that not a single review (even the bad ones) complained about the quality of their work so I decided to give them a try. They did not disappoint. They were extremely polite and friendly (and even nice to my friendly but very rambunctious pit bull), showed up on time, and worked quickly. When they moved the baseboard, their repairman, Rick, made sure to check out my entire heating system and even cleaned and fixed a few small parts of the furnace to ensure it would be working at its optimum level. I was impressed that they treated a new customer who was only spending a hundred dollars so well. As a result of this experience, when I decided to install a ductless heating system, I knew who to call. Their sales guy -another Rick- was super friendly, very knowledgeable, and not even remotely pushy. He didn't just try to force the most expensive option on me and instead provided me quotes for different possible scenarios and explained them all very clearly. The actual installation went just as smoothly. Jon and Tom spent two days at my house working and could not have been more pleasant. Again, they were on time and worked quickly. They also made sure to go over everything with me to make sure it was to my liking and even made last minute changes to the setup when I changed my mind. In sum, I have been completely satisfied with their work. I have also found their pricing perfectly acceptable. You get what you pay for. Some reviews compared using them to driving a mercedes, but I consider a car an unnecessary luxury, while a properly functioning heating system in Massachusetts is something I'm willing to pay for. read more

We recently had central air installed in our center entrance colonial home. Ed I., Patrick H., and the entire central air installation team were great! Ed's attitude regarding customer service is: "When the job is done, we're on to the next house. But we go to our homes too, and we appreciate that our job is for your home. We want you to be 100% satisfied that when we finish your job, you will be happy to come home to a job well done". Ed not only speaks those words, he lives those words. He has 30+ years in the business, and is not only highly knowledgeable about all the technical details regarding doing a job, but he really "walks the talk" when it comes to customer service. He is also not afraid to challenge the status quo if he believes the customers' best interests are not being served. Patrick's attitude is similar to Ed's. Patrick really cares about customers, and is always looking for ways to keep customers satisfied. For example, the outside condenser was originally scheduled for our back yard, but my wife was not happy with that look and the possibility of ice falling from the roof. Ed supported our decision, and the next day Patrick moved the condenser to the side of the house, Both of those professionals worked hard during the installation, despite working when the outside temperatures were 90+, with even higher temperatures in the attic. I also respect the Rodenhiser family and management team for providing all workers with excellent employee benefits and opportunities to grow and develop careers within the company. I had a 51 year old working boiler and wanted to take advantage of the Mass Save rebate so quoted 4 boiler companies. Rick Picard from Rodenhiser was a great, well informed sales representative and quickly outlined how his company could do the job for me, and had done it many times before. He also knew the Mass Save process and was able to provide financing and application support. A great help! Installation day came and Rick Woods arrived (exactly on time) with Bill West assisting. Rick is amazing! He has been with the company for 18 years and for two whole days worked removing my old boiler and water heater and installing a brand new state of the art system mounted on two 36" wall panels. It was cold and they worked 12 hour days but Rick and Bill never indicated anything but they were there to help and get the job done. Rick was careful to inform us when the water or heat would be off and back on. Questions? No Problem. Amazingly, at 7 pm on day 2, Rick and Bill were checking and re-checking every zone, every thermostat, every vent and all with good humor and no rush demeanor. Then Rick, still later in the evening, takes us downstairs and clearly explains in detail how the system works, what we should know, the benefit it will be in the future and how much support his company provides if/when needed. The basement area was immaculate. Since the install Rodenhiser has filed all the forms for rebate and permits while keeping me updated via email. I suspect everyone hopes for a good, if not great, experience with a large investment, potentially inconvenient, project and I am glad to highly recommend Rodenhiser with Rick Picard, Rick Woods and Bill West. This is the letter I wrote and posted on Angie's List this morning: Being almost 65 years old, I grew it a time when people people provided quality service at a fair price. These days I am often disappointed. Todays visit by Brian Hero, the technician for my A/C tune up from Rodenhiser Plumbing-Heating-Air Conditioning was exactly what I had hoped for ...and more. Brian was very punctual, neat, friendly and most helpful in addressing my concerns and questions. The service was done thoroughly, neatly and efficiently and I am fully confident in the work performed; its quality and accuracy. I didn't have problems with my A/C, but do believe in preventative maintenance and after today's service call with Rodenhiser, and especially Mr. Hero, my future service calls will be going to Rodenhiser. What I particularly appreciate is the fact that I was not encouraged to spend more money for services (that I probably didn't need) and that I was assured that my A/C system was in excellent working order and no problems were found. The very reasonable fee was well worth it considering the peace of mind I now have that I don't have to worry about problems. Rodenhiser Plumbing Heating and Air-Conditioning gets 5 gold stars from me, and Brian Hero left with a bunch of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. A great guy from an excellent company. read more

We hired this firm to quote a heating system and air conditioning thing. At first glance they seemed great, showed up clean, nicely dressed, and well spoken. Everything changed when they pulled open the software to show us choices. Things went from very casual to very high pressure to make a decision right there. It made us both very uncomfortable. After what seemed like a dozen times saying "We will call when we decide" he finally left. We ended up calling another Plumber "Monroe Home Solutions" we had used for a small repair months back after realizing they did HVAC work. They used the same brands as quoted by rodenhiser and thousands of dollars cheaper. Entire system had been installed in 1 day. They're contracted to come back once it's warm enough out to charge our new air conditioning unit and run some tests. Heat works great. Rodenhiser must be charging five thousand a day for labor, or they're considerably slower than other contractors. Either way, prices are way too high! Steer clear! ***Update*** Monroe had come back a number of weeks ago to check the freeon levels in our new AC. Everything has been working great, and they gave us a handful of free maintenances over the next couple years. I plain and simple don't see how rodenheiser manages to stay in business. True and sad story. Paid over $17K for Rodenhiser to install a new tank-less water boiler in our home. After having it installed we realized that Rodenhiser charged us about 6-8 grand higher than everyone else. Fast forward to November 2021. No heat. (We have small children) We call Rodenhiser on a Saturday and they tell us they are too busy to help us (That's not what your salesman said when they sold us this $17K pile of junk) We call another plumber who tells us; 1. The system they installed sucks 2. the fan is blown and we need a new one but they are hard to find and he does not have one.. We call Rodenhiser on Monday morning. We tell them we need a fan for our system that they installed according to the plumber that we hired after they told us they were too busy. Rodenhiser tells us they are not a parts store and we would need to hire their first technician to see what the problem is, even though we already know what the problem is. And then they tell us they don't stock parts for our system. (The system they installed. This is criminal what these people have done to us. As I said, we shave some kids and have no heat because of these scammers.. Avoid them at all costs! They cost twice as much and their service sucks! read more

I have used Rodenhiser three times already, and each time their service was outstanding. First I installed a furnace 2 years ago. We had done extensive research and I had at least 5 companies coming to give us a quote. Rodenhiser were not necessarily the cheapest, but for the high-end product we chose (Carrier, 98% efficiency), their prices were quite competitive. They also knew exactly what needs to be done, other companies were unaware that the city requires lining of the chimney if the old furnace gets removed. Plus we got excellent warranty and 3 year 0% financing. The second time I used them for a pipe repair, the dishwasher needed to be removed and o hole cut in the wall for this job. They came EXACTLY when they said they were coming, did the job, used shoe guards and tarps, and cleaned up everything. Lastly, our AC was not working, and there was a heat wave underway, and my house was slowly becoming an oven. I called in the morning, and by noon time somebody called and told me they are on their way. They fixed it, and also adjusted the fluid level (apparently it was too high). I highly recommend the company for their professionalism and excellent customer service. read more

We had Rodenhiser install a new water heater last year, and at the time signed up for their plumbing service package since it would save us money on the install. Included in the package is an annual check and assessment of plumbing, as well as a service to clean the water heater of any buildup. Rodenhiser noticed that we had not scheduled our annual check yet and called to see if we were interested (which is wonderful since I probably would have ignored this, but it was a free service we already paid for). After setting up the appointment, Casey A. called the day before as a reminder, and then called 15 minutes before his arrival to let us know he was on the way. Casey was friendly, efficient, and comprehensive, pointing out the main water shutoff, exercising all the valves, noting a few places for us to watch and possibly consider new piping because of oxidization, and checking pressure and water temperature. He wore booties the whole time without us asking him (but it was appreciated since we put new carpet in the basement), and was extremely professional. We didn't pay a dollar and they did not try to pressure us into doing any new work. I highly recommend Rodenhiser!! read more

I'm so pleased to see others have had the same wonderful experience I had yesterday and that I'm not a fluke. Gary Michaund was an excellent and courteous technician sent to me on a Saturday to repair my air conditioner. I have allergies so keeping windows open is not an option for me. Gary immediately put cloth booties over his shoes before entering my house (and I didn't even have to ask). He got right to work, explained his process carefully because I had lots of questions and didn't seem put out by my curiosity. He even went the extra mile of vacuuming all the cobwebs and ick out of my system before leaving. I will definitely call these guys again. They aren't the cheapest, but I don't like to be underpaid myself for quality work- you get what you pay for and it was a reasonable expense for an emergency weekend call. I might add that I also LOVED the woman who took the initial call. I don't remember her name but you could just feel the smiles come over the phone. This is someone who isn't "bothered" by customers. She was a real delight to talk to. All in all these folks provide great customer service and quality repairs. I highly recommend them. read more

We had another great experience with Rodenhiser today. Matt M came to perform some routine maintence on our Trane central air conditioning units. He let us know that everything looked good. We talked about the fact that our system is 18 years old and will need to be replaced at some time since the freon it has is becoming obsolete. He set up an appointment for someone to come and talk with us in a couple of weeks so that we can start to plan the replacement of the units. He also mentioned that Mass Save has a program now to help homeowners afford new HVAC systems. He showed me how he cleaned the units, and took some time to explain everything very clearly to me. He was very friendly and did an excellent job. Chuck W also came today to do routine maintenance on our tankless water heater. Chuck took care of it in no time, and was very friendly and efficient. Before leaving he asked if I was satisfied with all of the work that was done today, and he also mentioned the Mass Save program. We've had other companies service our systems in the past, but Rodenhiser is the best. We've been happy customers with them for over 4 years now. read more

As everyone knows or should know, Rodenhiser charges premium prices for their services. We didn't mind paying the price if we got what we paid for! We were converting from gas to oil and Rodenhiser sent a salesman to our house. They guaranteed everything under the moon with this new system. Needless to say, it's been a nightmare with the system and an additional nightmare with Rodenhiser. First, they installed it incorrectly. We have three zones, when we put the heat on upstairs, the downstairs heat went on; and vice versa. It took them months to figure it out. And more importantly, they recommend a system to us that has consistently failed. And we don't even bother calling Rodenhiser anymore because they usually lie. Yes, they lie to you. They told me two years after they installed it that we needed a new system. When I told the tech that Rodenhiser installed it he told me, "Well, maybe it could be fixed-l-et me check with my bosses". These people are charge extra and charge extra with their lies and manipulation. Seriously folks, they are a corrupt organization. Avoid them with all the might you can. read more

Honestly, I have been blown away (in a good way) with how smoothly everything went on this project. I have been doing renovations for a long time now, and I have never received the kind of professional service from beginning to end that Rodenheiser and their team provided me. I'm used to things not going as planned, and cost over-runs to surprise me, but this was far from the case here. From the initial call scheduling the evaluation, through the first visit with Rick P., the follow-up planning visits, and the installation with Shawn D., everything went flawlessly. The installation team should really be congratulated for a job well done, with clear communication, and a fantastic end result. They did a lot of extra work with no overcharge. I am really happy that I went with this team, and I will not hesitate to contact Rodenheiser in the future for other projects. FYI: This was a fairly major project, which involved removing a steam boiler and all radiators / pipes, then installing a new heating system. read more

Called them with a central a/c frozen up on a hot day with 100% humidity. Obviously they had a full roster of appointments already, but they worked with me, squeezed me in and came out same day, found the problem right away, tested the whole system, and gave quotes for future recommended service. I've worked with Rodenhiser about five times now. This kind of service was not a fluke. They are always prompt, polite, great communication--as always. Chuck was the tech this time--he has been here before and is always spot on. Same for Christina on the phones. Rodenhiser is a bit pricier than some others but it's obvious you get what you pay for: follow-through, communication (each step and conclusion is explained to you as they go), quality of work, documentation, clear advice, and accountability. I also think of it this way after some bad prior service (with other companies) - I've done both major and minor jobs w/ these guys and zero rework required to date, so that is cost *savings* in my book. read more

As a new first time homeowner (for just a few short days) I scheduled an appointment to have my boiler looked at as my heat was not working efficiently. I was informed that it needed to be replaced immediately. In less than 2 hours Rick P was at my house, went through my replacement and finance options etc. As well as scheduled my appointment for replacement the very next day. Pat B. Tom F. and Mo H. showed up at 7am as scheduled. I must say not for one moment did I feel stressed about this situation. From start to finish I felt I was in excellent hands. They all were extremely polite, friendly and professional and worked through early evening until the work was complete. I also needed my washer and dryer connected. Pat B. advised the plumbing and venting was not in the best condition. Pat B. and Peter G came out the very next morning and cleared up any issues within a couple of hours. I will definitely be using them again in the future as well as recommend Rodenehiser and this team to others. read more
