Who puts chili beans in a breakfast burrito? This place does and it's sooo good. I ordered a bacon and sausage breakfast burrito and the woman asked, "with everything" and I said yes not knowing they put chili in their burrito. But I'm not sorry or mad. It was good. Bacon was crispy, and there was a lot of it. Then a few weeks later I ordered the Supreme Breakfast Burrito that has chili all on top of it like a wet burrito. So good too. Probably a 4.0 overall, but this is the best basic cheeseburger in the Southbay imo, and that item deserves a ranking of 5. Here is what is good about the cheeseburger, which really is the only thing I get at Rod's. It has a 1/3lb patty of meat which is bigger than the the typical 1/4lb patties you will find at most other charbroilers. The meat also seems to be very high quality, and never has that "off" taste you might find at other places. Additionally, the burger has a great char flavor which is perfect. The condiments are shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, and 1000 island dressing which all taste great. The 1000 island dressing is perfect for this burger and I think they improved on it from 30 years ago, as it used to be a little runny. Now, it is the perfect consistency, and has a great taste. The sesame seed bun is perfectly fine and not too dense. It really compliments the burger well. And last but not least, this burger is a great value for around $7.00. As for the other stuff, I have tried a chili size, but their chili is not really my preference for burgers. That is not to say that it is not a good chili, but it is something that would work better served in a bowl, as opposed to on a burger or fries. That being said, I prefer the style of chili from establishments like like Tommy burger or Tomboy's, so this is largely a preference issue. All in all, if you want an excellent cheeseburger, I would not hesitate paying a visit to Rod's Charbroiler! read more

I wanted to dislike this place....$20 for a lunch combo seems excessive.. but then I had the burger, fries and they allowed me to have a bottle water rather than a fountain soda...so I wasn't mad at it. Well... we tried Rod's for the first time and maybe because it was almost closing time, it wasn't the " A"crew. We ordered 4 cheeseburgers, chili fries and reg fries. My burger bun was a bit hard like it had been sitting out for a while but the burger was pretty good. But my hubby got a mushroom Swiss burger and the patty was not very seasoned nor did it taste charred at all. Not sure why. Pretty bland. Our fries were also no longer crunchy because they packed the fries and chili cheese fries first BEFORE the burgers were done. If the owner s reading this, please pack the fries last, so they stay crunchy instead of letting them sweat inside the bag or the box. I think I'll stick to Steve's Burgers for now. read more

This was the "go to" spot growing up. Tried it recently after what I heard was a change of ownership and wow, what a bad change. They use to serve freshly battered and fried Zucchini & onion rings, now they're just basic frozen ones. Too bad, hope they switch back. It really is the perfect neighbourhood diner. We love the burgers and get them at least once a week. Their vegetarian burger is quite good too. Great spot to grab a quick bite in the morning if you're in a rush. I wanted to grab breakfast with my family in the morning before we all went to work and school. Rod's Char-broiler was close to all three locations so we checked it out. We all got the French toast combo which included eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast. It was good, nothing fancy (which is usually what I go for), but it got the job done. The customer service was great and we were in and out. We were eating so fast I didn't get a chance to take pics of our meal. But the OJ was good. read more

Ordered thru Uber. Chicken Greek Salad. The greens used in the salad are terrible and taste like weeds from the ground. I asked for iceberg but none was in the salad. The chicken used to be thigh meat which was juicy and flavorful. What I got this time was overcooked breast meat that was tasteless and hard to swallow. This place is going downhill. I'm watching it happen in real time. I've been a customer here for many years and it progressively is getting worse. This used to be a great place to get food at a decent price. Now the prices have skyrocketed and the food has gotten worse. Tonight I ordered a burger and fries. It was $12+, no drink. They used to serve burgers on a sesame bun, tonight it was served on a plain bun that was incredibly stale. You know when you go to grocery store and they have the 50% off bread because it's sell by date is that day or the next day? This bread was much worse than this. It made the entire burger taste gross. I used to love the fries from here, but today the fries I got were incredibly greasy, were not even warm, and were a light brown color instead of a golden yellow. I placed the order and arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes later so I must've received fries that had been sitting there for awhile. I tried to call them and tell them a few minutes before they closed but they didn't even answer the phone. They probably thought I was a customer trying to place an order. I used to heavily support and recommend this place but I won't be any longer. They used to have incredibly fair prices and good quality food, both have went in the opposite direction. It's diner style food with sit down prices. I won't be supporting this restaurant any longer. I used to go here once or twice a week, lately it has been once or twice a month, now it will be once or twice a year. read more

We started in 1975 enjoying the Greek traditions for the high regards for the food business here at Rod's Char-broiler. The era of Jino Futopulos . We were gone for a couple decades and returned to find the same place and most excellent meals served this day. The days of the "Brolly Hut" growth also. Another Greek food management success story. That being said, if you are into taste, flavor, freshness, value (you may find yourself taking left overs home), and clean eating area this is our go to. Today we could not have bee more impressed with Lucy-Lead person and the well seasoned cook Mr. Casimaro. The fish/chips and onion rings with tartar sauce were most tasty. The wife's tuna melt on rye and fries held up to the same expectation, superb. So Good!!! I had a Denver Omelette: bell peppers, cubed ham, cheddar cheese and onions. It is not often I find a place that does not over cook the eggs. My omelette was perfectly cooked. My son had a breakfast special: pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. He gave it a 5/5. My bf had a double bacon cheese burger and fries. It looked like a triple, it was massive! 5/5! Tried this place for breakfast on a weekday. I ordered the eggs, bacon, and french toast. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Good selection of menu items. Very affordable. A lot of food for the price. They let you get your coffee yourself so you don't need to wait for a server to refill your cup. Place was clean. Service was good. The woman working the counter was cordial and it didn't take long to get my food. Cons: Quality of food is pretty cheap. But then again, you get what you pay for. Food is decent but nothing unique or special. Syrup was quite frankly, weird. I think it may have had some fake maple flavoring mixed with Karo, not quite sure. I don't recommend it. If you're just hungry and don't care about the quality of the ingredients in your food, this is a good option. But if you're looking for that down-home diner experience with greasy but great-tasting food, this is probably not the place. read more

Rod's was pretty descent! At first I didn't have a high expectation from this place as the reviewed are just ok. But I ordered mushroom Swiss cheese burger combo and it was fresh and good. Not that juicy but fries was very fresh, burger was fresh and the service was fast and great. I definitely rather come here than a typical burger joint place. Might not be the best burger out there but it's definitely much better than typical fast food chains. I was hoping to get the charcoal flavor but didn't quite get it. I have been coming to Rod's since I was in high school and it is always a fun char broiler spot to feed the munchies. Their chili cheese fries are better than Wiener Dude's. Their burger is ok if you are in the neighborhood. It is a fun spot for kids to go with their homies. My two star review today is for their pastrami sandwich. I love a good pastrami on rye, or even a nicely grilled pastrami on a hot French roll. This pastrami that Rod's is doing, I am sorry to report, is a joke. First off, the sandwich came on a half sized French roll that reminded me of the turkey sandwich buns from the grade school cafeteria. Second, the bun did not come toasted. Imagine a hot pastrami on a doughy hamburger bun that came right out of the bag. So, not a winning texture. Third, the pastrami came, not with provolone or Swiss, but with some nasty yellow American cheese. That is not a combination that works on a hot pastrami sandwich. To add insult to injury, I ordered my sandwich with chili peppers. Once I started eating the sandwich, I thought they just forgot to add the peppers on the sandwich. I kid you not, that my final two bites of the sandwich came with a chili pepper each. I am talking, two tiny slices of pepper on the the sandwich. Disappointing. What makes me really scoff is that the folks who run the place are taking the time to advertise, sell, and make a pastrami sandwich for the good folks who reside in, work in, and visit 90278. For the team at Rod's to half-ass a 15 dollar sandwich that should be made with pride and care is flat out unfortunate. I hope and I think that this place can do better from now on. read more

YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 26/100 It was close to noon and my parents and I hadn't had breakfast yet. (That's a huge NO-NO, especially for my Mom.) We were doing some really important errands down the street that took longer than we anticipated, and disliking the idea of my mother starving, and this place being a few blocks down... why not. They have sufficient parking spots available, so no need to fret about parking on Artesia. Plenty of tables open. Plenty of them were occupied as well, so that was a good sign. Mom went for combo #5 (bacon avocado cheeseburger, sans cheese.) I went for combo # 6 (bacon mushroom burger) and Pops got the eggs and bacon breakfast. Ten minutes and our entire grub was on the table. The food was mediocre, at best, but the most impressive about all our meals: they were all HUGE orders. I couldn't finish my burger, so I had to take half of it home. Oh, and the abundance of French fries that went with our orders?! They were absolutely generous with those! The same with Pop's hash browns! We could have had a 4th person with us and still have enough to share! Staff was REALLY nice! And diners coming through was continuous throughout the whole time we were there. They are very popular! It's a good discovery. Burgers were pretty good! Teenagers give this place a thumbs up. The grown ups ordered salads and a Philly cheesesteak, all of them were delicious. Service was really good too. It felt a true mom and pop burger place where they cared about their food and service. Ambiance was basic. It was clean. Couldn't push tables together to accommodate a large party because the tables are bolted down, but that was 'not a big deal for us. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Wasn't expecting the chili cheese fries to be as good as they were.. I honestly can't remember the last time I had good chili cheese fries. Most of the time the chili cheese fries a incredibly greasy but not here. Great tasting chili fries and regular fries as well. The burgers tasted so fresh with crisp veggies. However the burger patty wasn't salted and the meat didn't have much flavor aside from the grill. I suppose next time I should tell them to salt the burger but it wasn't a big deal.. still going to come back and try more items. The servers were really nice and open to questions we had about our food. At the time we ate here it was quiet not loud at all. My wife and I were able to talk amongst ourselves without having to shout. Parking is ample and plenty to choose from, all though you have to watch for folks that think they can take 2 spots.
