Came for my husbands birthday the first time around and the food is solid! Julie our server was so amazing and was the reason for this review. She heard it was my husbands bday and even got him a free sundae! She was so attentive and really added to the experience. The brisket was super tender and the baby back ribs were the best! I recommend ordering this if you're dining with a larger group. There were three of us and we ordered a large, which meant we took half of it home. I had the BBQ southwest salad and 4 rolls later, I ended up having to take some of my salad home (enough for a second meal). Use one piece of chicken breast, melt the cheese and you might have a reason to try it, otherwise you are better off at a fast food restaurant for about 1/2 the price. Ordered 2 WR Combo takeout dinners and have to say portion sizes have gone down, do they think we wouldn't notice? Had the baby back ribs and they only give you 5 small rib bones, a small portion of pulled pork, which looked like it was left over from days ago & was extremely dry (how is the chef letting that leave the kitchen?), with a side of baked beans and Mac and cheese, those are always good and we ordered 4 rolls but they actually gave us extra so that was a bonus and lastly we also had one chocolate cake and one butter cake. I have been to many different Wood Ranch locations and this Manhattan Beach one is one of the nicest that I've seen. This chain is always really consistent and I feel the price to quality ratio is fair and is really good for people of all ages. This one is in a shopping center so there is plenty of free parking attached right in front. Inside is very large, they have many different seating areas, as well as a large bar, which was playing NFL games during our Sunday evening visit. Many people order to go from here, but we stopped in for dinner to dine in. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. One of the highlights of this place is the complementary garlic bread biscuits that you get. It reminds me a lot of the Cheddar Bay biscuits you get at Red Lobster, it's hard to resist eating just one. We started our meal with the Shredded Onions and really liked them. They're basically like onion strings and tasted a lot like a blooming onion. It was a great start to the meal. For my dinner, I chose the Full Slab of the Baby Back Ribs and honesty loved them. I think the ribs here are better than Chili's and I would also say they are better than Texas Roadhouse. This location just seems a little extra posh than the other location I've been to, maybe because it's in MB. It's still casual in the sense that it's not a steak house. Great place for group lunches, dates, etc. We ordered the Tri-tip with Mac n Cheese and the Lunch Special sliders with a side of sweet mashed potatoes and Ceasar's salad. It was excellent if you didnt eat too many of the garlic rolls. The meat is smoked for hours. Hubs remarked that this is the best and most tender tri-tip he's had. Service was great too. Continued my journey with moms to this particular location which used to be at Houston's restaurant. We went with the baby back and beef ribs respectively. For our size we went with a full-on potato and I opted for the sweet potato fries. And while the main dish was excellent in terms of the ribs, the sides were initially cold and were decent at best. Server Ryan get a pretty good job, but I noted he indicated at the start of the service that he was here to help out as opposed to being the server himself. Normally, that is a clue early on that the restaurant is short on staff. I've been through this way, way, too many times not to read between all the great restaurant innuendo and internal whispers! The Baseline: For a sit down chain BBQ restaurant the bbq meats must be quality/tasty, the sides need to be a good accompaniment to the meats, the smoke flavor must be present, drinks should be stiff, service should be efficient, and the restaurant should have character. Food: I had Tri-Tip in its smoked 10-oz goodness that satisfied my want/need/desire for protein. The baked potato was good with just butter and sour cream (you can get it loaded but it is fine when simply dressed) and the baked beans (sweet and spicy). I also had roaster cauliflower and a peach bourbon cocktail that was good. Raspberry margarita was also good. Service: The service on the night we came was good and friendly. I am at Wood Ranch BBQ a few times a month (or order takeout) and am usually thrilled with the whole experience. However, last night (Sunday) was really off. I made a reservation with Saul and when I arrived, I was told it didn't exist. Had I not taken down his name, I'm not convinced the girl at the hostess stand would have given us a table without a long wait. We sat in Ryan's section. It was not very busy. We were never offered more water (just the initial glass). We didn't see him much and the wet wipes were not offered or brought to our table. The food runner delivered all our dishes backwards. The tri tip on my BBQ salad was the WORST piece I have EVER had there. FULL OF GRISTLE. This was on top of the tortilla strips that I didn't want in my salad. My Mom only wanted two sliders (we have been told multiple times that you can order one or two), but Ryan insisted that was untrue and said maybe only at lunch. We have done it for dinner so I am unclear why we couldn't do it. We were never offered coffee and dessert. When the bill came (I pay with Apple Pay), our server stood there waiting. I don't know this for a fact, but felt like he was waiting to see his gratuity since others usually just leave the machine there. Our experience was just bad all around. I happened to be there the night before with a friend celebrating my birthday. We had Zack as our server. Super attentive and did all the right things and it was a BUSY Saturday night at 7:00pm. Parking is free and shared with many other businesses. After being seated, they start you off with their Garlic Rolls. These are so buttery, garlicky, and have a nice soft interior. The exterior is almost like a softer Sourdough Bread. Whatever they are, they are delicious and a great way to start off a meal! The first visit was in Jan '25 and we shared: *Buffalo Cauliflower - I loved these and hubby said they were good. They are an appetizer, but I think they would also pair well with Entrées as a great side! *Two Item Combo - Brisket & Ribs with Pan-Roasted Corn (+$1.50) - The meats were just as they should be! Smoky and tender! *1/2 Natalie's Salad ($9.95 with an Entrée) - This salad is chock full of goodies! It could be a good light meal! *Mom's Deep Dish Peach Crisp - It's a hearty dessert! The crunchy whole grains added a nice texture to the dish. We felt like it could use more ice cream! The Vanilla Bean Ice Cream was superb! What a beautiful location. We had a goodbye dinner there with my family and were craving bbq. We were greeted with fresh hot bread that was doughy and delicious. What a pleasant surprise. So I'm currently following a ketogenic eating plan so when the cousin suggested Wood Ranch for dinner I was hesitant. The bbq is pretty good and we've been many times before (not the MB one), but I wouldn't be able to eat the sugary sauces or carb-laden sides. Nevertheless I agreed and off we went. I was surprised at the many options I had on this diet. I decided to go with a Cesar salad, ribeye, and asparagus. I was cautiously optimistic as I am a steak snob (generally don't get steak unless it's Ruth's Chris or Morton's). I casually asked our bartender (pictured) if they could cook my steak medium rare but with a char (black and blue?). I'm not sure what the heck she typed into that computer but my steak came out PERFECT. It has been years since I ate a steak and the plate was completely clean with no remaining gristle or inedible parts. 100 percent satisfied. She made it super fun for us too!
