After some delay, my wife and I decided to enjoy a snack at the Roll Avenue Rolled Ice Cream at the Mekong Plaza. We shop at the supermarket there periodically. My wife is of Vietnamese background. We went to this place, and we ordered the Romantic Bangkok, Rolled Ice Cream Combination. It was Thai Ice Tea Flavor. It was okay. My wife and I found it appropriate. It was not overly sweet, but it was sweet. Bottom line, my wife and I found the ice cream good. We do not know if we would go back. Perhaps, once my wife's high school age nephew is back in Mesa for the school year, we may go there again...mainly for him. Between my wife and I, we will probably spend more time at a gelato shop nearer to where we live in East Mesa. read more

Flash forward a few weeks, and our first day of winter break found us running errands in Mesa with my son too and looking for a fun treat. A quick look at Yelp, and here we are. We asked and found out they just opened a week ago. A wonderful first experience. My son had #1)Mango Tango, daughter had #3)Strawberry Shawty with Oreo and marshmallow added, and I had #8) Mocha Chip. I'd always wanted to try this place so I stopped by finally after a visit to the Mekong grocery store as it is in the same vicinity. I thought they had a pretty good selection of flavors and hot desserts to choose from. My boyfriend and I shared the strawberry mango order. I found the whole process to make it incredibly fascinating. To be honest, the texture of the ice cream was different from what I was expecting it to be, but it wasn't a bad thing, just different. I liked how it didn't taste thick and overly creamy like how I find most ice-creams. It was a very light, cooling taste and sat well in my stomach. It was very delicious though I did wish there were more strawberries and mangoes at the bottom, instead of just the top. Also I thought the cup it came with was a bit small for the dish as it was hard not to make a mess. Nonetheless, the flavors melded well together and it was such a cold and refreshing treat on a hot day. The staff were pleasant and prompt as well. I know they specialize in ice cream rolls but I usually get their bubble waffle. I have one issue with it since local boba places include it with their bubble waffles. They don't add ice cream to their bubble waffles! You have to buy a cup of ice cream to add it in. I can basically name all the toppings and they only put four max of blueberries, one slice of mango, and their customer service was not the best. The young man behind the counter gave me a bit of a strange look and started telling me all the different items they could make with my plain vanilla ice cream. So I expanded to vanilla with mango. Then the show began. What a surprise, these guys work at ice cream. Will most certainly go back and may even try something (most likely vanilla and maybe mango) with the marshmallow just so I can watch them put it together. For $3.95 before tax, you get an entire togo box sized egg waffle/puff with the choice of whipped cream, one syrup topping, and one fruit topping! I got whipped cream, condensed milk, and mangos and boy was the off waffle/puff delicious! It was the perfect golden brown and the workers were also so polite and friendly. If I could leave a 0 star, I would. Came in because the pictures they advertise looked good. Told the cashier it was our first time there so we didn't really know what they had/what was good. The store was really slow so we were the only ones ordering and the workers just stood there laughing at us while we tried to order. Explained to the cashier that we wanted whatever the photo was that was on screen, the whole time he was being very disrespectful and looked at the other workers and kept mocking/laughing at us. Eventually we just got tired and ordered whatever he suggested. As they kept laughing we got really irritated and felt embarrassed as if we did something wrong, unfortunately that was right after we had paid. I knew that if we asked for a manager for a refund it would've taken too long so we just left and never even got our order. Either way this place is overly priced and unprofessional. This store will not last long if they allow their employees to keep acting like this, which is sad because the desserts look yummy (we're not sure how it tastes since we never even gotten our food). Wish we never came in this store in the first place. I would suggest everyone to find another store rather than go here, I'm sure there are plenty more places similar to this with better customer service. read more
