One of the highlights of my DC trips is the foodie scene. After settling into our hotel, we decided to order in using DoorDash, and I always opt toward restaurants with buy-one-get-one deals so we can get a little more bang for our buck. We stumbled upon Roll Play and their BOGO menu. We ordered the spicy oxtail pho, Thai basil chicken, fried rice, and Vietnamese coffee. Everything was delicious! The pho was flavorful (both hot and cold (since I saved some to eat this evening), meat was tender, the chicken was crispy and complemented perfectly by the sriracha aioli, and the coffee was strong (good option after our long day of traveling from the West Coast). Everything was packaged perfectly for a delivery order. I couldn't have asked for a better first meal in DC. read more

Stopped by for a quick bite and ordered the spicy oxtail pho and summer rolls (chicken and tofu). Everything was really tasty and enjoyed the "faster food" atmosphere. The broth of the pho was a great flavor, it wasn't too spicy (would say it was more of a mild level) so don't be too worried if you're can't handle spice. Meat was super tender as well. The summer rolls were pretty big and I would recommend the chicken over the tofu. Saw someone else order a Banh mi and portions looked huge so will be trying that out next time! I ordered two Veggie broths, crafted from scratch with sea salt, fresh lemongrass, apple, and fragrant ginger, perfectly balanced with warm spices (cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom) for a light, flavorful, and comforting taste. ACCURATE DESCRIPTION.. sooo yummy, one Oxtail Bone Broth, crafted from hundreds of pounds of grass-fed oxtail and beef bones, slow simmered for 24 hours. This is my norm. Collagen please, thank you. And lastly, one order of Vegetarian egg rolls, hand-rolled in house with fresh carrots, taro, onion and shallots and fried to golden crispiness in pure avocado oil. The banh mi sandwiches had a pleasant glaze that "popped" when taking a bite. All spring rolls were very fresh, and the sauces balanced with the right amount of savory, sweet, and tangy. Ordered delivery twice in the last week, which says a lot. As usual, the order was packaged with care and everything was absolutely delicious. As a plant based patron, I am always so grateful for their vegan offerings, so I was thrilled to discover that their new lineup of the desserts in a jar are fully vegan! Highly recommend this restaurant. My fiancée and I had it on our list for about a year Ms thought "why not give it a shot?" So that's what we did and we couldn't have been happier with the choice. We ordered the oxtail pho, the combo fried rice, the Build Your Own summer rolls, and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were good but nothing special. The combo fried rice was solid but they forget to cook in the pepper that we paid for so it felt like it was lacking a little something. But what it lacked for in spice it made up for in meats added in. I ordered just the side of it and it was plenty of food to supplement some summer rolls as well. My fiancée ordered the side order of oxtail pho and she made a great choice. She added spice and it was delicious! Would definitely go back just for the pho. The summer rolls are essentially just the magnum rolls that used to be on the menu. They're giant spring rolls and they're pretty good so long as you build them with the right ingredients. I made a steak one that was so-so. The service is pretty minimal here. You order on the screen and they bring it out to you if you're dining in. The interactions I did have with staff were good though! The restaurant does have some seating inside but it's overall a fairly small space. I was sad to see that they didn't have any soda on our visit. I'm not sure if this is the norm or just a one off. You can park in the garage for free. read more

I have been coming here since 2015 when I used to live in McLean apartments off of route 7 and this place opened up and would stay open late and was the perfect spot for late night food. I moved to Reston but I still come here for their food. So, it's high time and I owe them a review for being a loyal customer for almost a decade now. I LOVE pho and they have spicy oxtail option which isn't common in any Vietnamese restaurant so I highly recommend that. My another favorite is their fried rice! That just hits the spot every time and kudos to the chef and the owner for being so consistent with the favor and the quality. I'm all for supporting my local businesses and specially women owned. It brings me a lot of joy to be able to continue to support them as they grow their business. I highly recommend this place and I hope you'd give them a try and would enjoy the food as much as I do. I probably order delivery from here way too much but I have no regrets. Roll play has some of the best broth in the area. The spicy bone broth is my favorite but the regular and veggie are also pretty good. I've never had oxtail in pho but it's a game changer. The oxtail is nice and tender and the broth is packed with flavor. The toppings are always fresh. They have a nice selection of pho including lifestyle options if you want low carb, a power boost or protein, or gut healing. I also usually get the vegetarian egg rolls or the shrimp and pork rolls. Both are really good and have the perfect amount of crunch. The Bahn Mi is amazing. I got it with lemongrass chicken. It's a decent size so I typically will save the other half for lunch the next day. I love the different protein options. There's lemongrass chicken, black pepper steak, garlic shrimp, Atlantic salmon, caramelized pork belly, sesame glaze tofu. Really something for everyone. The menu is pretty expansive no matter what you're looking for. It even works if you're looking for anti-inflammatory options. I appreciate how quick they make the food. I never have to wait to long to receive my delivery. I also love the branding on the boxes. Not really feeling the more paper like bowl but the branding is nice. One of my favorite go-to viet places for when I'm in a hurry and want takeout! I like how easy it is to order online or on the kiosk and it's very quick. The service is pretty impersonal because you're basically just ordering through screens but sometimes I'm not in the mood for much human interaction. This place is all about convenience. My only complaint is that it's not authentic viet food and it's a bit pricier than the typical pho 75 restaurant but they are open nice and late and they haven't disappointed me yet with anything that i've ordered! read more

The food was good, but using metal staples to seal delivery bags is a serious food safety issue that needs to be changed immediately. Staples can easily fall into the food or packaging and be accidentally swallowed, creating a choking or injury hazard. There are much safer options like tamper stickers or adhesive seals. Hopefully management addresses this before someone gets hurt. read more

This is a small pho place that had some good deals with UberEats. Food - The oxtail pho was good, but it was very unhealthy and had a bit of a strange aftertaste. The spring rolls were not good. Service - You just order by yourself and get your food from the counter yourself. Parking - They have a very small parking lot outside, though most of the parking spots there are for other businesses. Got our usual mains and an order of egg rolls which we've been getting since we started coming here a year ago. We actually took back the first order of the vegetable egg rolls because it wasn't crispy. we thought it was sitting too long before it was served to us. He gave us another order that was piping hot- clearly freshly fried. It was still kind of chewy and didn't have the think crispy golden wrapper. It was kind of bumpy, tough and unevenly fried. A few months ago my son and I went to Roll Play late at night for some pho. We ordered a couple of appetizers and he ordered a noodle soup. I ordered a bowl of broth. When the guy brought the soup to the table, we had already eaten the appetizers and my son immediately started eating. I picked up a spoonful of broth and put it in my mouth, only to scream and spit it out immediately! It was BOILING hot. I have been eating pho my entire life and never had this experience. My tongue and roof were burned with blisters and my mouth was bleeding. It was so bad I went to the minor emergency care the next day to make sure that the incident was documented. The doctor there told me that a few days before a parent came in with her 7-year-old, who also had a mouth scalded into bleeding from a pho restaurant. It took days before I could feel my mouth again or eat properly. I called management to report the incident but they did not seem interested in having a copy of the report or in having someone call me back to discuss. read more

Very disappointed - I came here a few months ago specifically for the low-carb offerings and found out these offerings aren't available! Despite being listed on the website menu, the options for shirataki noodles or cauliflower rice were nowhere in the ordering system (you order at a kiosk inside the store). Also, didn't eat it 2. Service: well you order yourself and eat and get out, it is not a sit down restaurant, so there isn't much to say 3. Uber eats: If you buy via uber eats, you save $15 for 2 soups due to their buy 1 get 1 deal. However, considering the poor quality and negative health effects, there is no point in getting more. Probably the worst food experience we've had in NoVA in past 6 months. No idea what other's experiences are with good Viet food when they post a review here, but anything above a 1 star is inexplicable. Tables were all dirty when we walked in, had to interrupt the dancing kitchen staff and raise my voice over the music to get the tables cleaned off. Ordering wasn't an experience, and the food when brought to the table was in paper bowls (the "phô") and a parchment bag for old, stale egg rolls. One bite the eggs rolls (spring rolls), and I knew they had been made hours earlier and kept lukewarm. When I brought them back up to the counter, and asked for "fresh ones", everyone looked stunned, as if no one had ever asked that before or maybe they didn't know how to make them fresh. I had to go back up 15 min later after we finished the "phô" and I was told "they take 12 min when we make them fresh" - well gosh; why isn't making them fresh the default ?! When they brought out the fresh ones, they tasted like deep-friend toilet paper cardboard rolls stuffed with grass. The beef "phô" was disappointing and disgusting. Greasy, lacking any flavor and noodles were cooked so long they were disintegrating as I tried to eat them. All that, and they have the nerve to ask for a tip at checkout. Negative stars would be too generous. Can't shut down soon enough. read more

The good: the food, this place is 100% about the food and it's great. By that I mean not the most comfortable seating no service to speak of but really great food. The mediocre: look this place really was just the food. We ordered and paid on their tablet system and eventually heard our name called and grabbed the food. This is more of a quick eats spot so If you are looking for a sit down experience it's probably not for you.
