Oh what a fall from grace.....but not from quality! Like most of the reviews you read, I too remember Romas from growing up in San Bruno. Whether it was stopping in for a bite on a Hot Indian Summer day or grabbing sandwiches for a road trip to Tahoe or Yosemite, Romas clearly sticks in my head. Things have changes a bit since new ownership took over years ago but the ingredients are still prevelant. PROS: - Sandwicheds are good sized. - They use chopped lettuce : ) - The garlic spread(that everyone is trying to copy) is still the best and makes the Roma's sandwiches the staple they are. - Owners are friendly and really show you how much they appreciate your business. - Still a decent selection of frozen Italian foods which are excellent. CONS: - Not as busy as before and therefore meats and bread are not as plentiful. - Hot lunches(used to have great lasagna)are no longer served. - Sandwich prices have gone up. A lot of people have jumped ship to Little Lucca's, which also has good sandwiches but my loyalties stay with Roma. I still have hope that they can turn it around. It was rated at a 4.5 star level, and it was tasty, but about a 3.5. It was probably good because they used Boars Head meats & cheeses. It's a decent alternative for up on the northwest side of the airport. Roast Beef Club & Turkey Supreme Deluxe. The garlic sauce was a nice unique touch. Roma is my favorite deli in San Bruno!!! Sandwiches are $4.50 - $ 7.00. Now this is what a real sandwich should taste like! They have the BEST dutch crunch bread that I've ever had. Some delis have dutch crunch bread, but it isn't exactly crunchy the way it should be... instead its super soft with a French bread texture. Anyhoo, my usual order at Roma is their "Veggie" sandwich, on dutch with gralic spread, mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, provolone cheese, avocado & pesto sauce. This is what I order on my way to a relaxing day at the beach. Also, Roma has a wide selection of the good drinks such as, Nantucket Nectars, the new low calorie Snapple Noni Berry (favorite), regular Snapple, Stweart's Soda, which tastes a million times better than regular pespi or coke products, Sobe, Nuro Drinks (packed with vitamins & minerals), Honest Teas, tons of Gatorade, Sierra Nevada or Heiniken Beer, to name a few. Amethyst Fact #1: I hardly ever drink juice drinks or soda. I am a hardcore tea & H2o drinker, but at times I want a sweet drink. You may not consider a low calorie drink that's sweetended with splenda or other sugar substitute to be sugary-sweet, but it certainly satisfies my sweet drink craving. This usually happens when I'm having a sandwhich or spaghetti. With my sandwhiches, I'll take a Grapefruit Sobe light or Diet Peach Snapple & on a rare occassion, a root beer. With spaghetti, I only have it with an orange juice! Yup its orange good-ness twice. Ha ha. Since I started eating meat again, I have also tried a couple meat-packed sandwiches from Roma, such as salami on dutch with everything on it & cheddar cheese. So very good! They remind me of salami sandwiches I would get in grade school from a delicious deli (no longer open) called Pardini's on Mission Street. Oh, but Pardidni's was a tiny lil joint & didn't have salami hanging from their ceiling like Roma does =) Today, I was in the mood for some Smoked Turkey! I got it with the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickcles, garlic mayo, & provalone cheese. It was smokey & very scrumptious. So I'll probably be bringing smoked turkey or salami sandwiches to the beach this summer! FYI You will find many cooking oils, pastas, olives, peppers & cookies imported from Italy & Greece at Roma, hence their store name. If you're hungry for a sandwich or want authentic imported goods to cook with, Roma is the spot. read more

When I had a business in San Bruno, I ate here all the time....but it's been over four years since my last visit this way, and I'd forgotten all about Roma's. Yesterday, a chance errand put me back in the neighborhood, and decided to stop by for lunch. What a great reliving of memories! I ordered a small roasted turkey sandwich w/swiss and bacon...the son ordered a regular turkey melt. I talked him down to a small, assuring him he'd be quite full (keeping in mind he's a human vacuum). We picked out our drinks (a full assortment), and jalapeno chips (real flavoring...not that fake stuff). The sandwiches arrived....sublime, quite frankly. Perfect in every way. The son could BARELY eat the small...that's how generous the servings are.... Definitely worth stopping by if life takes you to San Bruno. Highly recommended! read more

Roma's is the best deli in San Bruno. The sandwiches are huge and well worth the price. They also have spreads comparable to Little Luccas and they are just as good! I always order a pastrami with cheddar on dutch crunch, sooo good!! They also sell gyros here. I've ordered their gyro a number of times. It's not as great as an authentic gyro, but if you're craving one it definitely hits the spot! The place is huge and has room to sit plenty of people. They have a little parking lot in the back, which I just found. The customer service has always been great. I've walked by at closing and been able to order a sandwich. I usually call my orders in and have never had a problem. Don't miss out on these yummy sandwiches. They're perfect on the weekends to cure that hangover! Perfect for taking on the Caltrain to a Giants game, everyone will be sure to hate you, but in a good way. read more

The people are so nice here! Haven't been in in a while but last time I was my son cut his finger at the gas station across the street and the lady let us use the facilities, gave us and band aids and candy to make him smile again! (Hes 6) so nice we came back for lunch and the sandwich was great along with the prices! A small was plenty for us to share, fill us up, taste great and not break the bank. I used to go here with my dad when I was little still owned by the original owner, when it sold I kinda steered away from it but I am pleasantly surprised with the quality and service and everything is still pretty much the same inside, I love it! There are really good deli sandwiches here. Although maybe not be the absolute best around, they are pretty close. The two times I have been here (so far, there will be more!), there has been hardly any wait. The other excellent delis I am thinking of have very long lines. It can be hard to find a parking spot here, but it will still be quicker than the super lines you might find elsewhere. Obviously, you'll have to wait for them to make your sandwich, but you won't have a long line to order first. The cashier (owner?) is a bit gruff, but he is efficient and is not rude. Unlike some of the other shops, this place has tables and enough room to eat. If you are in a hurry but still want a good deli sandwhich, consider this spot. After you try it, you'll come back because the sandwiches are good! read more

A cute mom and pop deli. First thing you'll notice when you walk in is the large deli counter and the wall of potato chips. The place itself is very spacious. Their menu is fairly simple. They have a few combos you can order such as the New York Special and Combo with bacon. Or you can choose a meat from their large selection and build your own sandwich. It took me a while to order because I didn't know some of the meats and had to google it such as Coppa and mortadella, which is what I think makes this place Italian as these are different kinds of Italian cured meats. They also have your basic salami and prosciutto. I love their variety of deli meats which they get from Boar's Head. I ordered a Large New York Special on Dutch crunch with a drink and chips. Also asked for a large side of peppercinis (40 cents) which added to a total of $13. Not bad for a meal for two. The sandwich was very flavorful. The Dutch crunch was perfectly toasted and still warm from the toaster. But watch out that Dutch crunch is nice and crunchy but can cut the roof of your mouth. The meats were thinly sliced, which I like. All the flavors of the meat, garlic oil, vinegar and toppings complimented each other very well and the Dutch crunch just made the entire sandwich complete. Service was good. They notice who comes in first so they're fair in serving first come first serve. But yes they're an Asian couple and they have an accent but their English was good in my opinion and they got my order correct. They even came and checked to see how I liked my sandwich. Now, they're not as fast as subway or togos but they toast and slice your meat as it's ordered rather than seeing them grab it from a Tupperware. Can't get more fresh than that for me. They also cut the sandwich in half and placed them on separate trays without us even asking, very thoughtful. And if you can't finish your sandwich, they have paper and paper bags for you to wrap and take the rest home. It's street parking (2 hr limit no meter) around there. Parking wasn't hard to find for me, but we did come around 3pm. Not sure how the lunch rush is around there. We had no line either but we weren't the only customers. Overall, I had a great experience and my belly left happy. I'll definitely come back to try their other meats and of course for that Dutch crunch. read more

Ordered the turkey deluxe which is just turkey avocado and jack cheese. Small size is 6in Large size is 9in. They were understanding when I ordered a large size half with everything and the other side with just mayo and mustard. So A+ for the customer service. The lady making the sandwiches is not wearing gloves and is touching everything, so that's why u took off one star. They toasted the sandwhich too without saying anything so if u prefer a non toasted samich be sure to speak up when ordering it. read more

I'm working in the San Bruno/San Francisco area for a month. Found Roma's by chance by doing a yelp search for a sandwich shop. Ordered the Pastrami on a regular roll and loved it. I was offered this unknown bread called Dutch crunch which I have never heard of. I tried to look it up to see what it was but since the line was growing I went with the good ole French style roll. Then I went back a few days later and ordered the Italian combo on Dutch crunch and freakin loved it!! This bread was to die for. I've never heard of it, never even seen it before and can't believe it's a secret held in the Bay Area. I have gone back 2 more times and can't get enough of their delicious sandwiches. My business trip to the Bay Area is coming to an end and I will get my fill of their sandwiches on this delicious bread before I leave. read more

My family and I use to live in San Bruno and one day randomly we decided to enter this deli. We proceeded to order our sandwiches with knowing really what we were ordering. When I tell ya'll these sandwiches were the BEST sandwiches we've ever eaten... they were the absolute best! We usually buy sandwiches at Méxican restaurants but they're too greasy for our liking but these sandwiches were just great and fresh too! This was years ago.. and yesterday we remembered those good times and we decided to stop by to buy our family a sandwich. We ordered 8 Sandwiches and everyone loved them! Although they ownership has changed hands a couple times during the last decade, the current owners ( I believe her name is Soon) are absolutely the best! Sandwiches are good when they want to be. Slow customer service I called in for my sandwich and got here and still waited for 45min. Nobody wears gloves and hair nets or even a hat which is unsanitary. I ordered 5 sandwiches and spent $53 for all of them to be incorrect. I drive from San Francisco to pick up a sandwich from this place everytime I feel the urge to. The owners are nice, they have great customer service and good memory and always spend at least some time asking how are you doing. I love a good sandwich and will usually head into SF to one of my favorite spots, but I've recently discovered Roma since it is closer to my home. The sandwiches are DELICIOUS and worth every dollar. The service is quick and easy, and the employees are kind and polite. For the large sandwiches, I usually eat half and save the other half for the next day, because even the halves are super filling.
