My experience was underwhelming to say the least SALES: Contacted the internet sales person for the car I wanted (I was out of state). I had a phone conversation with her and told her I was a serious buyer and willing to put a deposit down. She said she would talk to her manager and didn't hear back for a few hours. I called her and she told me the car sold. Bummer. Called a few hours later and talked to a floor salesman and told me the car was available. Okay, not sure what happened there but no complaints (yet). FINANCING: Wanted to secure the car and they asked me to put a deposit down of $5K. That's fine. I asked the financing specialist to send me the contract in advance before putting a deposit down and he did not want to do it. What the hell?! $35K plus contract and I want to see the contract before signing and putting down a deposit. What is wrong with that? UNPROFESSIONAL: Finally flew in from out of state and once I got there the first internet sales person kept trying to complain about the sale to the manager right in front of me. Very unprofessional. She then had the nerve to try to talk to me about the sale in the middle of the showroom but I was not having it. TITLE and REGISTRATION: To really top it off, the out of state registration was a nightmare. I sent all the required documents in advance multiple times but they kept tell me they never received it. Their deadline to submit registration and title passed so they registered and titled the car in Oregon (while I was out of state). Left multiple messages and sent multiple emails with attachments and they finally figured out all the info I sent was in their "Spam" folder. Awesome due diligence. Car was unregistered in my state for 6 months and had to go to the DMV 5-6 times to get a temporary license plates while they processed the paperwork. Still haven't received my plates and it's been half a year. Only two stars because of the second salesman. He was the only bright spot here. He made it the process as seamless as possible despite gaps in internet sales, financing, and out of state registration processing. read more

This weekend I was there to support my son in purchasing his first, new to him, car. Liana was very helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment she handed him the keys to his new car! She was friendly and informative without being aggressive at all and Tyson made the purchase and accounting as seamless as possible and was very helpful and patient with some minor banking questions that we unwittingly presented. We even put money down on the first one only to be called back saying that it was sold to someone else. Now today they called with another car we would like and as soon as I said we were on our way out to them they said the car was sold. This was all in the matter of about 5 minutes. Again I have had the misfortune of having to deal with the band of bumbling baboons that is the service department of Ron Tonkin Hyundai. The front desk girl Jennifer Is the coldest, least friendly customer service rep I've ever met. She makes no eye contract, and acts as if you are causing her physical pain by existing in her space. The service techs are nice. But it seems like the rules and regulations of Hyundai do not allow them to be honest. I brought my car in to be looked at (Beware their diagnostics fee is $150.) The first thing I was told was that there was a hole in my radiator..... turns out they updated me on a car that wasn't mine. Then I was told my car was fine.... then I was suddenly told my radiator was bent my cooling fan was broken and I needed new brakes. (I've seen from other reviews that this is a common add on to pad the bill) They quoted me $2800. I decided to have my vehicle repaired elsewhere (because the last time I had my car repaired by Ron Tonkin hyundai it took them 2 months!) Jennifer immediately started telling me that she "absolutely would not recommend that"because the new shop wouldn't be using Hyundai parts. This almost made me laugh because when Ron Tonkin Hyundai repaired my car before they sent away to a local machinist for parts that they couldn't get from Hyundai. When I was finally able to assure Jennifer that I really did want to have my car moved and repaired elsewhere she told me that shed get the paperwork ready and let me know when you could collect my car. I found this incredibly rude, but honestly it wasn't surprising. When I came to get the car she was stumbling over herself trying to make me tell her it wasn't her that was making me leave but in all honesty it was. In the end she offered me 100 off brake service and a whole four lightbulbs. And if she was even the tiniest bit more polite- I would've taken this laughable offer. I totally understand that people have off days and had this been an isolated thing I would have had Hyundai repair my car. But I've had to deal with Jennifer before and it was just as unpleasant. In the future I'll be going to an other Hyundai dealer. Btw the other mechanic's estimate is less than half of what Hyundai quoted. read more

We all know how terrifying and overwhelming car buying can be. I searched canvana & craigslist for weeks before I decided to go to a dealership and I am SO glad I went here! Greg contacted me and was NOT pushy what so ever.After test driving a 2015 Subaru, I asked to see a few others. It was packed & busy inside so I went back to my car & I did some research on other prices/ comparing mileage and such. He came in and checked on us 15 minutes later & asked if we wanted to test drive anything else (which was perfect timing) and I said yes! The 2017 blue Subaru Forester. After coming back from test driving while my fiance was comparing their price to others, we came back and decided to apply for it because the car was in PERFECT condition and was actually priced lower than other places. Greg was busy with another customer so Taylor took care of us. He was SO nice, personable and answered any of my questions. He got us a lower rate & worked with our monthly payments which for a 2017 Subaru with only 40K miles, was not bad! We then went into the finance office and worked with Joseph who was also SO incredibly kind & personable. Everybody was so friendly and made you feel like you've known them for years. At that time, I've received just one smart key, because they lost the second one. So they said, "we will try to find it, if we can not find it, we will make it new one. Base on this experience and other trouble with this dealer, I gave the 2 stars when I got the survey from hyundai. After that, the dealer called me to request the re-survey. They just want to get a 4~5 stars. If I have done the re-survey with a 4 stars or above, he offer the full tank of gas when I visit them to get a second key. After finishing the re-survey, however, they just ignore my message or call, and I also did not receive my second key until now. 2 weeks after buying a new Hyundai Kona from another dealership in Beaverton, something went wrong with my emergency brake switch. Since Tonkin is much closer I called them to get them to look at the problem. Her first question was, did I buy the car from them. When I told her no, I bought it in Beaverton, she told me the first available service date was in February! When I asked if this was because I didn't buy from Tonkin she put me on hold and transferred me to her manager. The line she gave me was - no one is buying new cars, instead they are keeping their old cars longer which means they need more servicing. I finally gave up and am now going to try the Service Dept in Beaverton (a 40 min drive for me). I bought this car because of the great warranty and now I'm regretting my decision. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! My wife went through credityes.com and was told by Andrea Rice, after multiple conversations via e-mail and appointment phone call she was APPROVED. My wife was then told to come in Monday at 9am and tell them we are doing the credityes.com program working with Andrea. We did that. My wife also asked Andrea if we could do more over e-mail and phone all due to both myself and my wife being high risk and COVID19. She was told we did as much as we could via phone because she needed to prove it is her who is applying for the loan and not a fraud. We were told it would be 2 hours max and she will prove who she is and do paperwork and decide on the car. She also gave us the approval information like total amount approved and cap on the monthly payment. We were sent the website to pick a car and let her know which one so that it would be available to test drive on that Monday. We arrived and was greeted by the first person who was at the door. We told them the information that we were suppose to upon arrival. We then had a sales guy come to us at the table and told us he was working with us. We made it clear to him we were also working with Andrea and asked if we could see her. He responded with, "I don't know if she's here, she might be but might not be." My wife was given an credit app to fill out, and she said this was already done via online. The sales guy who's name was maybe Jason, made a comment about another sales guy who in passing said something funny. "Jason" said, "He has a touch of autism," and proceeded to explain his quirks. While engaging in conversation and trying to understand why we aren't accomplishing the tasks Andrea said we would, "Jason" continued to shrug and just bypass our confusion and understanding of the process. He then asked what type of car things are wanting. I showed him the same car we gave Andrea previously and was told that car would be in my wife's file. "Jason" said, ok so you want sporty etc. like this car wasn't an option. He then said we would get in a car at this dealership and drive all over even into Beaverton to get a car and look at it and it could be an all day thing. When I pointed out the vehicle I wanted was less than 15 min away he again bypassed that and proceeded with completing his questions. About the same time we heard a male yell over the clear wall loudly and onto the sales floor, "What's up with this auto loan!?" My wife and I were confused who he was speaking to and sat there, while "Jason" looked puzzled at us waiting for us to respond. My wife then said, "who us?" and asked for the question again. The same male then yelled over the wall once again, asking about the finance company we had our other loan with. I feel like this is a confidential thing, and he couldn't get his lazy butt up and walk over to the table and talk to us respectfully. I then asked why we are being screwed around with, and not once did either male associates explain or take the time to come talk to us about what is happening and why. We were then told, nope we can't help you and when we asked again to talk to Andrea we were once again denied. I then asked for the sales manager and I was told the same male adult who yelled over the clear wall, was the sales manager. I then asked for who is above him, and "Jason" said, "The general manager." I then asked to speak to him, and was told by "Jason" he isn't here because this is where he parks and his car isn't here. I asked for the GM's card. "Jason" said he doesn't have one. This entire experience was horrible, and I wouldn't buy a car here unless you want to be tricked, lied to, and treated disrespectfully, while also giving out your information and learning about the medical information about other sales associate! read more

Wow! What can you say about illegal bait and switch tactics. So old school and so bad. We went there after being assured the advertised vehicle, a cargo van, was available and at the price advertised $15,000. We get there for our appointment and they appologize that it is up on the rack just finishing its multipoint inspection so they can garauntee its good and show me a xeroxed copy of the finished mechanics report even though they show me its still on the rack and say it had new tires put on too. Odd because they dont look so brand new with gravel deeply imbedded in the tire treads. No sign of a nechanic in the entire shop. No work being done anywhere but they do say they are just waiting gor a mechanic to bring it down. I do a test drive. Its fine and we get down to business where they say this van is $18,000 now. I tell them they sent me the pricing contract by email ready for my sig at $15,000 and the salesman appologizes and dissapears. Finally after waiting some period I have other appointments to get to and tell them I must go. No appologies, no indication of whats up. Later I get another email from them saying the price went up 3000 due to four nee tires and replacing the windshield. I let the oerson emailing me know the tires arent just recently put on and the windsheild has a pock in it on drivers lower left so the wondsheild has not been replaced. It looks like it was all theater to cheat folks onto coming and paying more than they planned for. Very sad. We wont be doing any business at a Tonken Dealership in this lifetime. read more

Best car shopping and buying experience ever! 1st your salesman has to be Tony Lockett, he is amazing. We had a tragic incident happen in our driveway that totaled our car, so we were in a difficult situation dealing with insurance and needing to figure out a car situation fast. We are a little picky when it comes to our cars and Tony helped answer all our questions, was patient with us and really listened to our needs. He worked hard with the sales manager Dale to give us an excellent deal, no hassle negotiating and bam we have a car we love! We have had some bad experience with dealerships and some okay experiences, but this was the first great experience! Paperwork was a breeze and I trust the service department will be the same when I take my car in for a little pampering. There is a great selection of cars (various models and trim levels) and if they don't have it they are ready and willing to find what you want fast. Bait and Switch. We told them the price limit and the sales guy says if we can go up a thousand they have a new Elantra for that price. Surprise! That car was sold but here's this one for even more. Our response was that's not was was just said. "Well we have this used car with 67,000 miles for that additional price that's just as good". The sales person kept going back and forth between us and the manager playing the "it won't cost you so much if you take a longer loan" game. I pointed out that saying there's a new car for a certain price, test driving a new car, then saying the one for that price is sold but here's an older car for that already additional price from the established budget seems like a bait and switch. The manager seemed pretty sensitive to that term because as his salesperson was talking to him (again) he started yelling loud enough for us to hear about us and how "they walked in here" "if they want to buy a car". Like we're doing them a favor. So we got up to leave. I looked back and waved on our way out and he says to come back and talk about it. He wasn't interested in talking. He just kept interrupting so I asked him if he was going to let me finish and he said no and yelled that I should "be a man" "negotiate like a man" and would never find a used car like that for that price. We left. Went to Landmark Ford. We bought a used car of the same make/ model and year with 30,000 less miles for over $3,000 less. In my opinion that manager has a serious temper issue, is unprofessional and is a stereotype of a sleaze ball. But I actually appreciate it because we found a better deal with less attitude and drama elsewhere. read more

We just purchased a new electric car from Ron Tonkin Hyundai via the Costco auto program. We had been looking at a couple other dealerships before calling to make an appointment with a designated rep. All of the designated reps were not in that evening but the people who there met with us and helped with what they could. They did not have the model on the lot that we wanted but had one at their sister site and made arrangements to have it there the next day. While they didn't have all the details, the staff was able to get us a close estimate. The next day we met with an official representative, Jazmine. Now this was our first time using the Costco program so we were not familiar with how it all worked and we had some questions regarding what the dealer was showing us vs what Costco says they needed to show us. Costco could improve on providing details of the program. We got it all straightened out and the team was very helpful and took the extra time to go over how the program arrives at the price it does. Once we got to see all the information, it all made sense and the price was fair and reasonable. For the wheeler-dealers who want to bargain for every nickle, it might not be the program for you, but for those of us who just want confidence that the price is fair, it worked well. Jasmine took us through an overview and hands on demonstration of the important and useful features of the car and then we took it out for a quick test drive just to make sure this car was running well. The papers were signed, Tonkin held the car overnight so that it would be charged for us and then delivered the car the next day. The only detraction's were that the credit check should have been started the night we first arrived. There was some confusion as to which documents were required by Costco. In the end we got it all worked out. I'm quite happy with the purchase. The car is pretty nice. I'm discovering some of the pitfalls of electric ownership, such as that many charging stations currently require membership rather than take credit cards and not all will work with every car (talking to you Tesla). read more

I've had service done here a few times on an older Hyundai bought elsewhere, and to be clear: the service done was okay as far as I can tell. However, they are annoyingly aggressive about trying to sell to service customers. There was not a single time I had service done when I wasn't bothered by a salesperson while waiting for the service to be completed. Later (just now), they crossed the ^%#!ing line by cold-calling my cell phone while I was at work because they were interested in buying my 11-year-old car. I bought my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe from Ron Tonkin Dealerships, new. I have been taking it there for service and maintenance ever since. Yesterday I tried Dick Hannah because I had grown tired of several things I wish to express here. 1. I have been told multiple times I needed something replaced only to get a second opinion stating the opposite (tires, brakes, etc.). 2. I once took it in for an oil change a mere two weeks after having a battery check done. The battery wasn't showing any sign of failure, but the check was precautionary due to its age. The battery checked out fine, but two weeks later, I suddenly had a completely dead battery. Not a slow cranking battery, a dead battery, no life. SOMEHOW in a 2 hour span of dropping it off (FYI it started just fine that morning), we now had a battery that was completely dead? 3. I once gave the service person (Jennifer Lopez) a bad review, deservingly, for completing simple repairs without an estimate and then charging me (filters, etc) and for not understanding the operation of features in the vehicle which led them to tell my wife, "that doesn't do that, nothing is broken," when indeed it does and it is. Now every time I go in there I get a guilt trip over my honest feedback...be professional and take your criticism as a learning experience. 4. I need an appointment for any service, there is no express. Now that's ok, but wash and vacuum the vehicles then. I have only ever gotten my car back dirtier (including a grease stain on my interior driver's door). I could go on, but this is turning to a rant versus what I intended, a warning. I believe Ron Tonkin service is performing shady work, and I want to praise Dick Hannah for quick and honest service (with a car wash and tire rotation). Great salesman named Tanner. Lousy finance manager with the last name EARLY. Kept changing story, yelling, getting in my face. Told me based on my application he could get me better financing than what I was presented. Total lie (or more likely he didn't try). Tried to get me to get the color I hated. I left after he balled up the first offer (in my face) and slammed a new offer and pen in front of me and demanded I sign. These people are really psycho. I am a big man as well too, but I REALLY DIDN'T FEEL SAFE. On a funny note the almost (you can't be without) $1,000 NW PROTECTION package they told me about was unheard of by the next dealer I visited. read more

If you go to the dealership I recommend looking for Tanner because he is amazing. He's nice, isn't pushy, very patient, and sincere. Not the typical "car salesman" which is a relief!! I wanted to take the time to say how pleased I was with this dealership when I was looking at Velosters and Elantra GTs!! I went to a LOT of dealerships, and this one was by far the nicest. I kept coming back because the staff was so friendly and helpful that I really want to make my purchase there! I had a specific budget to stay within, and the staff worked really hard to get me everything I wanted within that budget. They sketched up two offers within my budget with all the bells and whistles I was looking for- The only reason I didn't take it was because I decided on a different make and model altogether than my original plan. This is dependent upon your credit, so it is beyond their control whether your credit is approved; I'm sure they were just as disappointed that they could not make the sale as you were!! Do not buy a car from Will. He's a con artist! It was a scam. Went into Ron Tonkin hoping to find a good deal. Left w nothing but knowing we've been bamboozled. After hours of pressure and lies from the seller, I was obligated to sign a signature just for a loan to the bank. They told me by signing the loan to the bank I would secure a hold on the car and singing the loan wouldn't finalize the car deal, especially since I couldn't test drive the car. Didn't send them proof of living in the state of Oregon (which I didn't give them) and I couldn't test drive.. Yet, I'm stuck w a car I do not want. All I was sold was lies.. With the first step taken in the door I could feel the ploy to swindle innocent car buyers by con artist car sellers who claim they are all trying to do good by you. My car got totaled and I was in need of a car bad but I had bad credit so I came here to see if they can help. They ABSOLUTELY took advantage of me when I was in a time of need. The car I wanted needed to be detailed so I couldn't get it right away, so the manager TOLD ME to pick any car off the lot for the weekend since I couldn't bring the one I wanted home. I picked out a car and put a $500 deposits down that day, and was going to put the rest of the deposits down when I picked up the car the following Monday. After further consideration we decided to postpone getting the car due to financial reasoning and covid.. you get the idea. When I Came in and told the manager with the beer belly that sits in the front , he got so incredibly nasty with me and told me they won't refund me my money back. I told him I needed to postpone getting the car for financial reasons and he kept insisting I gave him a more detailed answer .. MY FINANCIAL ISSUES ARE NON OF HIS BUSINESS . He then told me they're keeping my $500 because I "got a rental car" that he pushed on giving me because my car wasn't ready to take off the lot that I wanted. I told him I only drove the car less than 5 miles and he still insisted I owed him MY $500!!!! After fighting with him I spoke to their financial lady and she said he was full of bullshit and promised me my refund my Wednesday (it was Monday at the time) I waited after Wednesday and still nothing .. NO ONE would answer my calls or emails regarding me refund !! When the store did answer my call they told me their financing lady "didn't know how to process a refund I'm sorry, but what financial lady doesn't know how to do a simple refund that's worked there for years ? Mmm.. always, I finally got me refund after having to call EVERY hour . I told the guy on the phone I was going to file a disput with me bank , and look at that. I got my refund in seconds. OK, it started great with Kevin being professional and a great salesman. I needed to think about it and talk to the wife so I left for the day. I was at Costco later in the day and saw their Auto Buyer program so I filled it out and got an offer from another dealer. I wanted to give Ron Tonkin my business so I asked them if they were a part of the Costco program and if I could get the 2012 Elantra at the Costco price. Another salesperson assured me I could, but over the next 5 days it became apparent they had no desire to help me in that regard. I eventually called Costco because the information I was being fed by RT seemed fishy. Costco confirmed that RT was lying to me, and was not Costco dealer for the 2012 Elantra (they had not agreed to Costco's price). So, I wasted a week trying to be loyal. Complete liars! Incompetent ,unprofessional, untrustworthy. Do not waste your time. Friday I called and spoke to their sales person Melissa about a brand new 2018 car. Before going in, I wanted to confirm my "Out the door" price. I REPEATEDLY said, "Out the door price, after fees, taxes, and anything else". I could not have been more clear. We agreed on a price. Again, I confirmed that price was the "Out the door price". She again said yes. We make an appointment for Saturday afternoon. Saturday: Upon arrival, I check out the car and notice a couple dings in the car. It being a brand new car I said I wanted it fixed. They said "Oh of course no problem!" Deciding to go ahead and purchase the car, Melissa tells me, "Oh no the price we agreed on that's just for the car. That does not include taxes and fees." They refused to come down to the originally agreed upon price. So I went to another dealer where unfortunately, after wasting a couple hours of my time here, the car I wanted was sold. I was obviously not happy. Sunday: With A LOT of hesitation I contacted Melissa and say fine I will agree to the higher price but I want it in writing. They sent me the email with the price in writing. Monday (Today): After already taking steps to purchase the car, I text Melissa to ask when the car can be fixed. No response. Finally I call and they tell me they are reneging on the deal because the cost to repair the dings is too high so they will not honor the price they gave me in writing. This of course is not my fault and I say this is ridicules I was giving a price in writing! This is incredibly unprofessional! Then the manager gets on the phone and this prick has the audacity to tell me I am being unreasonable! First, they had an appointment with me. They knew I was coming and had nearly 24 hours to do a walk around the car to look for any dents, dings, discrepancies and inform me before I took my time to drive there. Second, they should have said it depends on what the cost to repair these dings is if we can honor the price we told you (which of course they didn't honor the first price anyway). But again they simply said no problem. This place lied to me about the original price, and therefore caused me to miss out on a car at another dealership, then backed out of a deal they gave me in writing. Apparently that means nothing to them. I really wish I was exaggerating. But everything here is 100% factual. I've done a lot of business with car dealerships and I've never seen such incompetence and unprofessional-ism. I have told all my co-workers, friends and family about my experience here and they are shocked. They will never give this dealership their business and they intend to tell their friends and family to do the same and so on. Do yourself a favor, and go elsewhere. Its amateur hour 24/7 here. P.S. They prey on women. Not nice. Over $500 later, they fixed everything except what we asked, the window and airbag alarm. In addition, the aggressive maintenance gal almost made us late for our plane. When I was there at the counter, all was going well. So left to get our other car turned around so we could get to the airport. After ten minutes, I came back in to find a flustered wife. It wasn't until we were on the plane that I found out what had happened. I immediately called to cancel the bogus maintenance (my wife found the records later that showed that they had been recently done). Too late! They had all ready done the unneeded maintenance. But a week later when we returned (even after giving permission to replace what was needed on the window), nothing had been done on the window. We were a long-time customer (car purchaces and maintenance). They violated the most sacred trust--making my wife feel respected and valued. And that is how you lose customers. read more
