Real Mom and Pop feel at this restaurant just off Exit 160 on I-16. Drove past it twice in two days and the parking lot was near full each time. When you are not a big box restaurant and the place stays full, you're doing something right. Working class food in a working class environment at working class prices. The Red Burger which my wife and I both have were Black Angus ground on the premises, and the flavor in the burger backs that up. My wife had the steak fries with hers, and I had the onion rings. In a day and age where onion rings that are mass produced delivered frozen are ubiquitous, these homemade onion rings were a pleasant surprise. Corn meal dredge and lightly fried. Served with a house made spicy dipping sauce that is good enough to belong on grocery store shelves. read more

Always loved going to this restaurant as a kid and even still as an adult. Every time I go back to Savannah I make sure to stop by and get at least an ice cream. This places is guhreat! When I go to and leave Tybee, I stop here to get their salad called "Tybee Island Salad" and the butter pecan milkshake. Not only is it tasty, but it's also a small business and I appreciate keeping my dollars local to the communities I visit. Here I had great service, yumtastic food, and all the "y'alls" I could get! We were headed to Pooler's to eat at Cheddars but when we were barely out of Savannah we decided we were so freaking hungry we couldn't make it to Pooler, when we saw a billboard for Ronnie's on I-16. I remembered eating here back in middle school and thinking it was the best restaurant ever, but it was my crush's favorite which probably heavily swayed my opinion. Stepping inside, it didn't look like anything had changed since the place opened many years ago (nice way to say it was a run down). The two order takers were friendly,helpful, and cheerful, but the guy who I presume to be the manager was incredibly and unneccessarily rude to one of them. We ordered the Big Red burger and were expecting something a little bigger than what we received. I felt for the price we paid it was a bit of a rip off. The food was great, but this will probably be our last trip there. read more

Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am - Can you say butter pecan milkshake??? This was a great lunch spot for a quick bite on 16 where you are generally used to passing your average repeating fast food spots. The onion rings ARE the Bomb dot com!! They explode with flavor and with crumbs all over the table, your plate and your lap. The sandwiches are wonderfully compiled-- nothing fancy at all, but very tasty none-the-less. They give you everything on little baby paper plates... which leaves VERY little room for error. This place actually surprised the heck out of me. There isn't any flashy sign to announce the place nor is there any modern architecture to draw you in. It's simply a little restaurant right off the highway. When you walk in, once again - nothing special. You're greeted by some very friendly staff and then order your food and sit down. Once again, nothing special. It's nice and clean, however, which is always a pleasant thing to see. However, once you get your food, you realize why you came here. It tastes non-processed and not your traditional restaurant taste. Most restaurants, to me, have a standard "taste" about them. Delicious burgers! Steak fries are very good too. The inside is a cute diner theme, although not taken care of the best - can be a bit messy. But they do have a drive thru. Order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. The Ronnie burger is very yummy- they even toast the bun so it has a great buttery taste around the edges! Used to be a great place for chicken fingers, burgers, shakes, and onion rings. The new management after Ronnie sold the place changed a few things. Now the fingers taste from a frozen bag and the onion rings lack the robust seasoned batter that they used to have. I didn't have a shake but it should be difficult to screw that up. read more

Ronnie's is a southern friendly place right off interstate 16 by Savannah & Statesboro. The Decor is pictures of race car drving and thropies.... Once you walk in you feel comfortable n welcomed. The barbcue was amazing, with the spices they used had my tongue doing a dance. Home made Mac n Cheese n cole slaw completed the dish. You get your money's worth. I wish I could put 2.5 stars... I just stopped here to grab a burger and onion rings on my way home from de renne. I always see the billboard sign from highway 16 and this time I finally decided to stop. The inside of the restaurant has somewhat of a dirty vintage feel--I actually like that 50's look, as long as the restaurant is clean (which I don't think it was). The only thing I'll say about service was that the cashier girl was somewhat friendly. Unfortunately she immediately starting texting (in the open) once my order was placed and she had zero recommendations when I told her I had never been before and that I've always wanted to stop in. I found this to be awkward and it made me feel like she was displeased with her job since she had nothing positive to say about the place, maybe I'm wrong. Ok on to the food... I was super stoked to try the onion rings but to my dismay when I got home 10 minutes later they were absolutely inedible. Soggy, wet, and over-breaded--I couldn't even feed them to the dog because I feared the stomach problems it might cause him. The burger was okay, better than McDonald's, if that means anything. At least the burger was more affordable than McDonald's priced at $3.99, just nothing to write home about. I really want to give this place a second chance, maybe next time I'll opt for the steak fries and a milkshake with my burger instead of the onion rings. read more

Ronnie's food IS good; I will not begrudge them that. However, this morning my mother went in to order 10 breakfast biscuits, and was told that she could only have 5, unless she wanted to wait 30 minutes. I appreciate that they make their own biscuits, and understand that they are busy in the mornings. However, while she waited for her 5 biscuits, she watched two other customers order biscuits, and be served immediately. When she inquired about this, she was told that they had to "save some biscuits for their customers". Was she not a customer herself? I am very disappointed in the treatment my mother received today, and will not be going back. read more

Last time I've ate here was a couple years ago and I always liked there milkshakes the most. But I Will never eat here again , total wast of $10 on a burger frys and milkshake. I took 3 bites of my food it tasted gross. The frys tasted like they were cooked in 6months old grease and the burger was just plum nasty with no tast. Not to mention the milkshake tasted like a cup of watered down milk with a drop of chocolate syrup in it. Would have rather went to McDonald's. Very disappointing. read more

I've been going to Ronnie's my whole life and love the food. The shakes are delicious, as well as the steak fries. The burgers are decent, too. Most of the time the workers here are very friendly, even though the drive-thru service tends to be very slow. But I gave this place three stars because I believe the prices are a little high for what they offer and the condition of the restaurant. I also feel that they need to employ a couple more people. I went through the drive-thru last night and there were three teenage girls working the counter and dining area, and service was extremely slow. I'm assuming they had a fry cook in the back as well. There were two cars in front of me, and I probably waited 15 minutes before the first car had received their order. When I finally got up to the window, the cashier took my payment and gave me my drinks quickly. Then she went to help a customer inside. I saw the cook place my food on the counter, but no one was there to give it to me. I watched one worker just walk around while another was bent over texting. After about five minutes of watching this, I finally tapped on the window to get someone's attention so my fries wouldn't get cold and soggy. The girl texting gave me a "look" and then grabbed my food and handed the bag to me as she rolled her eyes. I only gave one star bc I had to to write this review. We stopped by bc we were traveling through. It looks like a cute little local joint from the outside. When you go in it is outdated and makes you think of a very old Dairy Queen. We ordered our food. My husband ordered a Ronnie burger. I ordered a BLT sandwich and my daughter ordered chicken fingers. The first bite of my BLT tasted rancid. I'm not really sure what it was exactly that gave it that kind of taste but either way I spit it out and threw it in the trash. My husband took one bite of his burger and tasted the same thing and he threw his away. His coke which came out of a regular soda machine you have in any other restaurant and he said there was something about the way it taste that wasn't right either so at this point if they can't even get the coke right then I certainly wasn't going to feed my 3 year old her food. So although it was a cheap lunch of only 19.01, you get what you pay for. The ladies at the counter were very nice and welcoming- definitely like the small town treatment you would expect. However, the treatment and price wouldn't be enough to make me recommend trying this restaurant. I would definitely not be going back nor would I send anyone in the direction of the restaurant. I know this isn't a pleasant review but it is an honest review. We threw away all of our food, just to head down the road to find something we felt safe eating and feeding to our child. read more

Legit! Stopped in on our way thru to Florida (from Minnesota) for a quick take out order ... just happened to see the billboard right before the exit. Soooo glad we did. Burger, chicken fingers and onion rings were out of this world. Chicken fingers were honestly some of the best I've ever had ... anywhere! They were huge. My guess is they brine them in buttermilk. Just a guess. They were super tender! Place is old but that's part of what made it cool. If you're not from the area I could see this being a place people may pass buy and not stop at. I don't get out in that area as much as I used to, but recently did and chose to have a late lunch with my grandson. OMG, ya'll! It was not as good as I remembered; it was better than I remembered. The barbecue sandwich piled with so much tender, pulled pork it was falling out the sides of the big bun. Love that signature sweet sauce of theirs, just right and blends well with the smokiness of the meat. And yeah, I love those steak fries too. Everything hot and cooked to perfection. What more can you ask? Nothin', honey! I can't wait to go back. The order taker was friendly and efficient. Yeah, they might be a little slow on bussing tables, but it's not a pig sty. Where to start, I'll start with curb appeal. Don't look around you if you're visiting the drive-thru, you might be grossed out by the appearance and condition of the exterior of the establishment, peeling paint, garbage, dirty windows and general lack of maintenance has taken it's toll on the place. Now about the food. Everything under one roof menu with sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs in addition to ice cream, shakes etc. I opted for the Red Burger, a 9 oz burger patty with all the trimmings. Unfortunately I got 'pickles" I specifically asked not to be on the burger. Second, though okay taste wise the burger was obviously pre-cooked, it was gray on the outside and the wetness soaked the bottom of the bun which meant the burger basically fell apart when I tried to eat it. Would I be back, not likely, maybe if they take some of the money from their hundred thousand dollar billboard that got us off the freeway and fixed the place up. read more

I am a huge burger and fries fanatic so my expectations were high based off of so many great reviews of this place. Unfortunately my experience was just mediocre. I ordered a quarter pounder cheeseburger with the works, and a order of fries and onion rings. The burger tasted like any regular burger I could get at a fast food place, nothing special. The steak fries were pretty good. They were fresh and hot. I ordered the onion rings as an extra side because the girl at the counter recommended them and told me they were good. Although they were probably some of the biggest onion rings I had ever seen, the batter itself was over seasoned and falling off the onion. Overall cost was only about 9 bucks so not too bad for a burger, 2 sides and a drink. I would probably just go back for the fries but based off my meal, I don't see what all the hype is about. read more

As a fan of local diners and "greasy spoons" as well as a hungry traveler, I was pleasantly surprised to see this establishment across the street from a random stop for gas as I left Savannah for parts south. The impromptu decision to stop for lunch after fueling up was made on the basis of their promise of old-fashioned milkshakes on their road sign. A Red Cheeseburger combo with chocolate milkshake and onion rings was a wise choice as it turned out. We paid at the counter and sat down and the food arrived within maybe 10 minutes. I had the pulled-pork bbq dinner, with green beans and steak fries. The beans were traditional Southern/bbq style, ie, cooked a very long time. Savory and tender. The steak fries were crisp. The pulled pork was finely shredded, completely melt-in-your-mouth soft, bathed in a sweet & rich sauce. My son was pleased with the fried-chicken-finger sandwich. Got a Big Red burger through the drive thru. In large part, it was well cooked, but underseasoned. The piece of lettuce had a large, tough stem through it and should have been discarded. That lack of care carried through to the application of the other toppings and condiments, which were not evenly distributed at all. Some bites were bone dry and others were perfect. Pretty cool hole in the wall mom and pop style place. Staff is very friendly and prices are pretty decent. Decor is weak but it's all about the food. The burgers are good and the chicken tenders are perfect. Crispy but not hard and juicy on the inside. Hint* if you get the buffalo sauce get it on the side and dip it. They get soggy fast.
