Pro tip - Get here early for dinner if there's a concert in NOMA square! Roost has a fantastic outside patio area with a small waterfall that is usually packed during good weather days. They also have lots of inside seating that are close to large windows so you can still some natural sunlight. Their kitchen is an open kitchen and it's pretty cool to watch them prepare the food. Definitely make it for the Happy Hour deals which end at 7. They have $3 well drinks, $4 drafts and $5 wines as well as appetizers for $5-7. We got two of the happy hour apps as well as two other appetizers off the menu and it was more than enough for three people. - Bison cheese fries: OMG YUM! Definitely get this! So savory, so cheesy and flavorful. -Bacon truffle Mac and cheese: You can add chicken, shrimp or lobster for extra cost but we got this plain and it was still fantastic! Normally I am a big fan of Roost. Dinner last night, however, wasn't the best. For one thing, at the door checking in we had a reservation inside, but asked to sit on the patio. No one advised us that there would be a band starting up an hour later. Ruined the second half of dinner; conversation was impossible. Had the hosts mentioned the band, we would have happily sat inside! Secondly, my salmon with the tasty pink sauce over the small potatoes and asparagus tips (not really the actual tips, but plenty of stalk), was drowning in the pink sauce. Typically went I've gone to Roost it is for their amazing brunch on the weekend. We finally went for dinner during restaurant week. I had a scallop salad which was extremely delicious. The flavors and ingredients were very fresh. It was so good I would have made that my meal with a larger portion. My husband had the broccoli Caesar which was also delicious. For my entree I had the fish and my husband had the steak. Both were good, but I would definitely get something else next time. For dessert I had the key lime pie which was the perfect amount of tart. The cheesecake was also good. I would definitely go back for dinner but would try something else for an entree. My wife, son and I went to Roost today for lunch. Without a doubt it was the worst lunch we've ever had in Greenville. I ordered the Chicken Club and the bread was stale and microwaved. The bottom of my bun weighed about 8 once's. The top was not as bed the Chicken was cold and lacked seasoning. The waiter sad he was going to speak to the chef. No one came. My wife had the same sandwich and problems. My son ordered their best burger and had what appear to be only day old bread. Our bread was left in a pile on the table. This place is terrible. For a Wednesday night, the patio was slammed. Maybe this was because of yoga in NOMA Square? Anyway, when we sat down we thought we might be setting ourselves up for disaster as there was only one server and one inexperienced bartender, but we took our chances. As it turns out, the evening couldn't have been nicer. Our server, Madelline, made all the difference. She was busy, but she made sure everyone was taken care of. Drinks came quickly, as did the food. The wings appetizer was plentiful, and the wings themselves well seasoned and meaty. The spinach salad with grilled chicken was probably one of the best I've ever had. So colorful and chock full of fresh ingredients with the tastiest warm chargrilled chicken. The pepperoni flatbread was flaky, crispy and perfectly presented. Afterwards we walked towards the back of the restaurant and were impressed with the indoor dining area and kitchen. Roost was the restaurant in our hotel. We used them for salads the first night getting side salads with meat on the side. I added chips and queso while checking out. Their queso was some of the better queso we've had on this trip. We reheated it every night we were in the hotel. We also used Roost for their breakfast two mornings. Their options are a bit limited. Forcing us to order alacart eggs and bacon. The last morning I ordered potatoes and that was a waste. It's deep fried potatoes with no flavor. The servers were friendly each time. read more

I have a favorite brunch spot. I love it and never want to go anywhere else. I understand the brunch there. The brunch at Roost, I did not. It was pretty busy and I did not even know that there was a buffet except that my girlfriends pointed it out to me as I requested a menu. Never did get that menu. The food was sadly underwhelming. The highlight of most Southern breakfasts, biscuits, were awful. I can't stress just how bad room temperature, hard biscuits are, but I couldn't chew more than one bite. They sat, along with my dirty plate, until we exited the restaurant. The rest of the buffet is what I call an eclectic cross between Golden Coral and a high turnover casino all you can eat layout. Except neither one of those charge $22 for their buffet. I also did not see it posted. $7 for Bloody Mary and $4 for a mimosa. No coffee offered and no other food or beverage. Another wonderful experience! As we were walking in, a small band was playing outside with people everywhere dancing. It was a festive night! The wait staff was friendly and very welcoming. I've suggested the Roost several times before but because he goes there a lot (he works at the radio station in the building next door) he has would always say...mmmm let's try another spot. Well this time I was insistent on going because I had never been. I was very surprised when I walked in because the atmosphere and decor were wonderful! Just the kind of place I like to eat at. We ordered drinks...I had a chocolate martini but I can't remember what my husband ordered ‍. Anyway, for dinner I ordered the Farmers Salad with Blackened Salmon and my husband ordered the Chicken & Dumplings with a side of Collard Greens. We both really enjoyed our meals! Went here for my birthday dinner. The location of this restaurant really helps with the overall experience as the location overlooks NOMA Square. However, the food itself was good pretty good. My wife New Rooster Burger and it was definitely in my top 5 burgers. The thing that I really liked about the burger was the beef was high quality and the bourbon bacon jalapeño jam added a sweet mellow taste that had a kick as well. My wife also had their garlic fries and they were pretty good too. I had the Grilled Angus NY Strip and it wasn't anything to special. In my opinion it was a tad overpriced, but that's what you get when you eat a downtown venue. The service was ok, nothing over the top but nothing that really made me give them a negative review. We all really were cute with what we had on, but the majority of the other patrons had on clothes that looked like they were going to a party later. I don't know, but it was weird for and afternoon/early evening look. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess accommodated our party of 7 and told us the booth was reserved and we would need to wrap up by 6:45pm (which was more than enough time for us to eat and socialize). Funny thing, we all ordered the rooster wings (which is a starter). I also ordered the mac & cheese and a side of daily vegetables; others got the garlic fries. The wings were cooked good. Be aware, there are a limited amount of flavors-this is not your sports bar kind of wings here. I ordered the bourbon molasses bbq and ended up asking for a side of the dry rub to toss on them at the table. I don't know why I even thought I would like the bourbon molasses bbq since I don't like that kind of sauce even if i'm cooking at home. The next time, I will just get them dry rubbed. The mac & cheese was pretty good as well as my daily veggies. This place is a great date spot for the locals and was great for our girls overnight out. The menu has a variety of items to choose from so most people should be able to find something they like. The ambiance was pretty nice and there was no complaints about the service. They dining experience I had here was fantastic. My friend and I had a VERY attentive waiter who was patient and gave us time to catch up when we could have been looking over the menu. The pizza was very good, if you don't like your crust on the more well-done side you'll need to communicate that, though. I expected a more smoky flavor from the queso given its name, but it was still good. The brownie was VERY rich, very sweet. If you are a lover of the crispy brownie edge, I don't think this is for you because it felt more like a center piece. Not pictured was the spicy pineapple Margarita which was amazing. This is my second time coming to the Roost and to be honest my review will remain at 3 stars. Great accommodating service, friendly staff and warm atmosphere hence the 3 stars.. There was a mutual displeasure overall with everyone's meal. Out of our party of four we each ordered sandwiches. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the other three ordered 3 the chicken club. We also ordered soup with our meals the soup of the "Chicken pot pie stew" The soup came first, it was chicken noodle soup solid flavor nothing very distinct. And after some time our sandwiches came. The pulled pork was pretty bland though the remainder of the sandwich, the slaw and the bbq sauce were great. There was some confusion about wording on the menu with adding soup to burger order so once that was sorted we were able to pay and take our leave. I'm leaving this review sincerely hoping the buffet will return after COVID and I only ever brunch here, so this is basically only a brunch review. This is always my go-to in town, so much that my toddler calls it my favorite restaurant. The food & ambiance are the best in Greenville IMO. Since COVID, I love their goat cheese & prosciutto omelette and the French toast. Prior to COVID (buffet) I loved their biscuits & gravy, bacon, and French toast casserole. Sometimes there were some southern lunch options, such as pulled pork, Brussels sprouts & Mac n' cheese. I love the salad bar, plus grits and fruit/yogurt bar for my kids. Honestly this was a pretty solid bistro/American restaurant. Didn't really have any issues here and came with a group of 6. Drinks were pretty good and service was not too bad. We started with apps; which were the rabbit tacos, dry rub wings, and bison chili fries. I know what a combo! They were all pretty good; really like the dry rub wings and tacos. The bison fries although good were a bit sweet for me. As an entree I had the salmon as I wanted something bit light. Didn't have high expectations honestly, but the salmon was delicious!
