We were in Connecticut and had no idea where to have lunch so of course, I turn to Yelp to guide me. I'm a big fan of fried chicken so when I saw they had it on their menu, we took a turn to Rooster Co. We sat at the bar and ordered a couple of cocktails. The bartender was very nice and excited that we had ordered an Irish Coffee and a Bloody Mary. We looked through the menu and the fried chicken was not on it - panic attack! I told the bartender the only reason why we came was for the fried chicken, his response 'we don't do it for lunch but no problem, we can make it happen'. I was so happy because it was finger licking good. The fried chicken comes in top of a delicious waffle with a bed of spinach on top. I can't remember what my boyfriend ordered because I was so concentrated on my meal. If I'm ever in CT again - this is def a stop. Loved it! read more

Hands down one of the, if not the best restaurant in Newington. They have a menu that has something for everyone. It is constantly changing, I never tire of the same thing every visit. They only use the most fresh and best ingredients around. Their offerings typically follow the seasons, my guess is to ensure you get each item at their peak of flavor/ripeness. A few of my menu favorites are; Brussels Sprouts, asparagus, cauliflower, calamari, corn bread, Naked Chicken, New York Strip, Ribeye steak, and any one of their many salads. If you are heading in for lunch I recommend having their BBQ Mac n Cheese. It cannot be beat!! The dining attire is very casual which fits the atmosphere of the restaurant perfectly. The only thing that tops their food is their unmatched service. I have yet to go in and not be immediately greeted by an employee (regardless of where they work or what job they perform). The hostess is always friendly and has a huge smile on their face. I've sat with everyone of their waitresses and never once been disappointed with the level of service they have provided. Ever since they opened in February 2015, I heard nothing but great things about Rooster Company. A year later, I've gone a handful of times in one month, and I'm so glad I did -- they're pretty good! Unique, satisfying, comforting -- Rooster Company offers an awesome everyday-type of atmosphere. On first-glance, everything on the menu sounds delicious. We kept the waiter at bay by starting off with the the pork belly. Damnn, pork belly -- you so good! The creamy roasted chestnut panna cotta and balsamic cherries were interesting but good additions. I'm forever on the lookout for good fried chicken. They don't fry it here, but instead -- brine the chicken for 8 hours and then spit-roast them for an hour. It's simple and gosh darn delicious. Organic, pasture-raised and antibiotic-free, you can get a whole bird for $20 or half for $10. You can also do the chef's plate too which is a half-chicken, a serving of country pate, leg confit and a sprinkling of crunchy cracklings. I've had the garden herbs in walnut oil and tandoori-style sauces -- SO good. Roasted carrots, roasted brussel sprouts, avocado salad, beet salad -- basically, everything is delicious! And the drinks? Don't even get me started, Everything-Is-Delicious! I appreciate that the food is priced reasonably, and that it's just not a "special-occasion place". read more

The venue is comfortable and neighborhood-y as it always was in its previous lives, but for me it feels improved/more welcoming to curious outsiders because of the locovore twist and listed proudly on the menu and above the bar are the many local farms and producers it gets its ingredients (and beers) from. *swoon!* The ONLY thing I desire from this place is a better chicken wing recipe, which if achieved would have earned this place the illustrious 5th star from me. The fact that the chicken is organic and locally sourced thrills me and outside of the wings, they've got my vote for best local-local eatery. But since we're on the subject, people love their chicken wings and if you (I'm lookin' at you, head Rooster) could only come up with a recipe that rivals others, the Rooster Co. could have it made in the shade. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. Upon entering, I noticed a VERY strong aroma of bleach or cleaning solution. It was not appetizing to say the least, but at least I knew the restaurant had been cleaned! LOL At 5pm on a Friday night, the bar was moderately busy; my friend and I found the last two seats at the bar. The restaurant side was empty. We were greeted quickly and given menus. After we ordered our first drink, the bartender became "busy" and did not come back around for quite awhile. We had to flag him down to put in an order for wings. We wanted to order another drink but were displeased that it took so long, so we closed our tab. The menu is quite limited and prices are a bit steep. I feel a bit conflicted about Rooster. I've been to Rooster twice (and ordered out once). The times we were there, the food was good and the staff was courteous and welcoming. However, the one time we ordered out was one of the most disappointing experiences ever. The food was sloppy and soggy, the salad dressing was buried in a container at the bottom of the salad (underneath the cheese and all of the lettuce) - we didn't discover it was there until halfway through. I had ordered the spinach and artichoke mac and cheese one time in the restaurant and it was amazing. From take out though, it was truly despicable. Will we come back? Yes - sure. It's a good place to grab a drink. Will we order food again? Meh, we shall see. Our takeout experience killed it for us a bit. read more

Another gem I found through Yelp. The boyfriend and I had to go to the Berlin Turnpike for something and I searched nearby restaurants and stumbled upon Rooster Co. The near 5-star rating lured us in, and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing. I liked the appetizers more than my main course but everything was great overall. Service: A little bit slow for the amount of people who were in the restaurant but our waitress was okay. Appetizers: We started off with the pork belly, tuna tartare and mac'n'cheese. I only ate two out of three since I don't eat meat anymore. My boyfriend said the pork belly was super delicious and honestly, just the look of it - it looked like it was perfectly cooked and crispy. The tuna tartare was good - it came with plain potato chips which I thought was somewhat odd, but, we ate them. I also liked the capers! The mac'n'cheese was probably the best I have ever tasted. I wanted to order another one. Main Entree: I got the pasta with shrimp (didn't eat the shrimp though) and it was a little spicy. The pasta was nothing special but it was good. I asked for rolls and they were so crispy and fresh, it was unreal. Boyfriend got the salmon entree and he said it was good. I noticed that it looked a little more "medium" than medium-well. Dessert: I got the lime cheesecake which was better as leftovers. Ate about 1/4 of it at the restaurant and the rest at home. Overall, it was amazing and we will definitely be back! read more

How have I not reviewed this place? I've been here several times- once for a private party, once for brunch and for dinner. I love the food. I love the concept and I love the service. I used to be a big fan of chicken and waffles at Firebox, but they changed their recipe a while ago and added a lot of pepper (I abhor pepper, also dill. Really excellent local find in Newington! I recently made reservations for a large group of friends and I to have brunch together at Rooster. When we arrived, we were told that our party was already there...but in fact someone else had been seated as a large group at the table they set aside for us. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table, which was frustrating, especially since we had made a reservation and the restaurant wasn't that busy (they just didn't have enough space available to accommodate a group of 8 at one table or at tables that could be connected). The hostess was also not very helpful at first, and tried to seat us at two separate tables, which wasn't going to fly. Once we were seated together though, our waitress was very apologetic and gave us two free cheese boards (which were AMAZING!). Everything on the brunch menu was very reasonably priced and many items were locally sourced. I had one of the scrambles and it was delicious. One minor annoyance was that the potatoes could have been warmer/fresher, and my english muffin was clearly not freshly toasted/the butter with it was hard as a rock. Other than that, everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and we all devoured our plates. The space itself is really beautiful as well, and they have a large bar area that would be fun as a space to grab a drink or linger for a while. If we didn't have the reservation screw up to start our time at the Rooster, it would have been 5 stars. Even so, I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely return! read more

Just had dinner at The Rooster Company for the first time. It was delicious!! I had heard about the chicken crackles and wanted to give them a try. They are good and really addicting, a perfect start to the meal. For dinner I got the truffle Mac n Cheese. The waitress said it was the best you'll ever have. I have tried Mac n Cheese at many places and I definitely agree with my server! It's topped with little truffle crunchies that were so yummy! The rest of my table really enjoyed their food too. There was a cheese omelet, Philly steak and cheese sliders, truffle fries, and a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert. Yum, yum, yum, aaaand yum! Everything was outstanding! This is for their fried chicken. I'm from the south and this is some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. Very juicy yet extra crispy and the perfect blend of spices. Excellent. Even the brussel sprouts pasta that came on the side was really good. It is however a little pricey, I think around $18? Its 3 big to medium size pieces and one side. Its definitely a good size but still a little steep. Also, you can only get it on Mondays!!! :( I wish they always had it on their menu or throughout the week. Their chicken pot pie was also excellent and would definitely recommend. it is HUGE. Definitely enough for two people. The rotisserie chicken is pretty good but not phenomenal. It's missing something but their sauces make up for it. The cola bbq, walnut herb and tandoori are my favorite. Their confit wings are also really good. The good: James at the bar is awesome. This guy knows his stuff and is funny, engaging and excited to be here which makes YOU excited to be here. Ryan the server was also great - super polite, efficient, quick and friendly. The chicken - sweet lord the chicken! The sauces are good but you don't necessarily need them because the chicken itself is expertly cooked, tender, aromatic and delicious. The cocktails! Great craft cocktail selection which is much appreciated plus the bartenders are quick and friendly. The Mac and cheese! Macaroni and cheese with both prosciutto AND rotisserie chicken?? Amazing. The bad: seating. We started at the bar waiting for our friends. When they arrived we all agreed to have some drinks then get a table for dinner. Seeing as it was Saturday night at 6:30pm we knew to put our name in asap and were told it would be 20-30min. No worries. About an hour later after checking a few times, being told we were next and seeing open tables with no one at them I was finally fed up. The hostess said the open tables were for reservations which is fine but know that if you have reservations you need to quote a longer wait (otherwise we wouldn't have given up our seats at the bar). We had to basically make a stink to get a table and that's not cool, especially when you have a babysitter waiting.When Rooster Co works out their minor front of the house issues it will be a major contender in both the Newington and West Hartford restaurant scenes. read more

Food was really good. Great presentation and flavor. Why 3 stars? Service. The hostess was very friendly and seated us right away, but the server was lackluster. We were checked on once after getting our food. I had wanted another cup of coffee, but she never came back and by the time she did, we had finished eating and just wanted the check to go. My wife was a server for 18 years, so we are understanding when things happen and we normally tip in the 20-25% range, depending on service obviously. The waiter explained the menu to us, gave us recommendations, and when my wife couldn't decide between two sauces for the chicken, he allowed us to sample both. Drinks were refilled before we even had a chance to ask for it. My wife had the rotisserie chicken and I would say it was the best chicken we've had. I had the country fried steak and it was very good. It came with blue potatoes which were neat. The weakest thing we had was my wife's potato salad. It had a unique taste but didn't taste like traditional potato salad which was what we were craving. It was a bit too vinegary. For dessert we had a pineapple-banana cake with cream cheese frosting. It was very good. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Our bill was $48 for two of us for two entrees, dessert, and a soft drink. I had the chicken (it's their namesake so I figured I should try it! )--nice and moist, plus the waiter was good enough to bring all the sauces over so I could try them. Dessert was also awesome - I had the biggest ice cream cookie you've ever seen, and it should definitely be shared! Wow, ended up sharing a Curry chicken pot pie, and brussel sprouts side. The food was plentiful and the potpie was one of the best I've had. I think the pastry top is equally important in making a good potpie, as the filler. Both were excellent! the pastry puff topper was light, flaky and buttery, the filler was delicious as well. The chicken was tender and the curry was mild, but provided an interesting counter flavor to the normal veggies and chicken. Definitely recommend! as comfort food goes, it can't be beat :) read more

An absolute must try. Rooster Co. impressed me in every way possible. Good atmosphere with a fairly large bar area. Our waiter Emilio was top notch and took perfect care of me and my girlfriend from start to finish, even when it got really busy. Best service I've had in a while. And the food? Unbelievable. So we started with the happy hour menu. We tried the pow pow chicken, risotto balls, and a polenta dish. All were absolutely awesome, cooked perfectly, and they cost a total of $12 bucks. The risotto balls were good, but it was the other 2 apps that stood out. Their farm-to-table chicken is unreal and the pow pow sauce that was with it was deliciousss. The palenta was a first for me and it was soo freakin good. It came on top of a green sauce that went perfectly with the dish... so tasty. For main courses, my girlfriend ordered a salad. Boring right? WRONG! The green goddess salad had romaine, cornbread crumbs, fried jalapenos, avocado, herb dressing, and she added candied pecans and grilled chicken. It was the best salad I've ever tried and she said it was her absolute favorite salad. And it only gets better from there. Although sides don't come with your dish, they are completely worth it. Their truffled mac n cheese was also the best I've ever had. Cheese was perfect consistency the flavor was ourtageous! Didn't look like a huge side but you realize quickly its almost a meal in itself. For my meal, I ordered the grilled Allen Bros steak in a red wine sauce which was served over local palenta and grilled asparagus, and topped with salsa verde and greens. It was out of this f'n world. Top 3 steak dish I've ever had. Everything across the entire dining experience was so fresh and just amazing on all levels. Hidden gem. If you are on the Berlin TPKE take a 3 monute detour; ypunwont be disappointed! I have been here twice now and both times were excellent. Lunch and dinner were perfect. Great beer selection locally sourced meats! The atmosphere is mellow the noise level is medium just a great experience. TV'S always have games on and there is plenty of parking. Forget the craziness on the pike take a short detour and have a great meal that does not leave wanting a nap. read more
