Love this concept of fresh local ingredients. Different options were great. For apps/starters, we tried the beet salad, which was my all time favorite, and scallops, which were also very delicious. Entrees included the rock fish and bison ribs. Both had great flavor but neither provided the wow factor with me like the beet salad. The description provided with the ribs should have been enough to probably go a different way, but I was still curious. Drier, pulled off the rib but not fall of the rib. We gave the sweet potato fries a try and they were eaten up pretty quickly. Crunchy and satisfying. Food presentation and the service were both fabulous. The energy shifted while we were there. Very quiet and low energy, we were maybe one of two tables initially, then lots of activity and bustle as the evening went on. Would go back just for the beet salad. This was a great place for dinner. It was a last minute choice and the hostess was super nice about getting us seated. This place is bursting with flavor and could make anyone become a vegetarian! They also have plenty of dishes with meat/protein, but i'm not sure if I've ever had vegetarian food this flavorful. Well, we can see all the reviews for amazing food. We came her to talk about Trin, our server. Wow. What an unexpected treat! Personality, kind, on top of it all--noticing as new tables came in. Never missed a beat for us. Former restaurant people ourselves so we know what it takes and we know how well it can be done. Trin makes it look like his joy and makes it look so easy. We are impressed. Good servers like this are hard to find these days. Here, Trin was magic. Made for such a great date night. And the food was delicious. Drinks were Delicious. We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary with dessert here recently, but we were more than a little disappointed. We had the banana cream pie which was littered with salt, while the tangy passion fruit syrup just didn't pair well with the chocolate cake. It was all more about plating than taste or portion size. Last night me and my fiancé went to Root Down for dinner. We had a great experience from the food, to the ambiance, and the service it was all amazing. I'll start with the great service. We had a reservation for 5:15 in the dining room. When we arrived to check in they told us they had two empty spots in the bar area where happy hour is available. They said we can have those spots and be allowed to order off their happy hour menu which was from 5-6 pm. We said that sounds great and got seated immediately. Our server/bartender was very kind, helpful, patient, and seemed to enjoy his job and coworkers. We appreciate the hostess staff offering us a spot in the happy hour areas. Then we also enjoyed and appreciated our server the rest of the evening. We ordered off the happy our menu and ordered a lot of different items to try and share. We ordered, one lamb slider, 2 veggie sliders, two arepas, 1 beet and goat cheese salad, 1 sweet potato "union" rings, and 1 order of sweet potato fries. This restaurant has many gluten free and vegetarian options. I am neither gluten free nor a vegetarian but this food is excellent and I enjoy it very much. My fiancé is a vegetarian and we enjoy sharing food so this is a great restaurant with great options. We also ordered a desert to share before we left and we chose the salted chocolate chip cookies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Now everything I had was very good but this ice cream was unbelievably good. My very first taste I could tell it was special and later our server told us it's all made in house and you can taste the love and work that that kitchen is putting into all of their food. (But especially that ice cream!!!) The ambiance of the restaurant is very cute energy with plants, paintings, and other decorations up. This place at one point was definitely an auto store because it has a big door that slides up to open. It is a really great places that i definitely recommend. I got an email from OpenTable regarding Root Down's Sunday Dinner promotion. I also saw an online article from Westword Magazine. The OpenTable app allowed me to make a reservation for 1 person. I was seated on the east covered patio. The Sunday Dinner menu is actually a regular feature. Their offerings changes weekly. You get a choice of 1 appetizer, 1 entree and 1 dessert for $38 + any beverages. They add a 5% employee benefits surcharge. I started with a Coconut Ginger Fizz mocktail. Very smooth and sweet. My appetizer was the Peach & Tomato Panzanella served in a large bowl with a big spoon. A wonderful start with grilled peaches, a generous amount of burrata, tomato confit and veggies. I noticed other tables getting the same amount when ordered off the regular menu. My entree was the Rockfish Tom Kha. Two large pieces of grilled fish on a bed of bamboo rice cake, scallions, radish and snap peas. They also provided a clean big spoon to scoop the juice. I added a 2nd mocktail, a Cherry Bomb with Amarena cherry, mint, vanilla and lime. The special menu indicated they were sold out of the dessert so my server Janna K brought out the regular dessert menu and indicated 3 of the 6 items were available. I absolutely love Root Down! Not only is the crew friendly and welcoming, they are also very attentive to food allergies and sensitivities. More specifically I am celiac, and they do a great job listing all the items on the menu that can be made Gluten Free. In fact at the bottom of the menu they ask that patrons share their food allergies BEFORE ordering, so these conversations are something the team is prepared to have. It's very clear they take it seriously, which is a godsend for folks like myself. Last but not least I want to mention that they have a separate fryer for gluten free foods, such as the house fries. I wish this was advertised more overtly, not just at Root Down but in general. The food was delicious and the presentation also deserves kudos. We visited root down last minute and luckily were able to make reservations as this place was packed and reserved for a few days out. We sat outside on their heated patio which kept us pretty comfortable and we actually even had to ask to turn the heater down a little because of how warm it was. The waitress was happy to oblige. She also gave us plenty of good recommendations and everything we ordered was full of flavor and delicious. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine with our dinner as well (not pictured). Incredible service, intentional ingredients, and great ambience! We decided to walk-in for brunch at Root Down this past weekend and I was really pleased with the whole experience. Our server was the Bar Manager, who went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied. When my friend expressed her dietary restrictions, he went out of his way to bring over the allergy guide and walk us through every ingredient, making customizations to the dish she was interested in. I ordered the Chilaquiles with a side of the Black Pepper Bacon. While I was disappointed by the portion size, the flavors were otherworldly. When I expressed this to the server, he comped my entire order(this was not the expectation and we made sure to tip generously). Even during the brunch rush, I felt as though the customer service far surpasses other brunches I've experienced in Denver. We went for brunch and were celebrating a double birthday which was immediately acknowledged by the very personable host. The restaurant was bustling as usual. Our server was great in trying to keep our needs met and was very apologetic for the unusually slow service from the kitchen. It took quite a while to get our order but when our food did arrive, it was great. Sweet potato fries never disappoint with the curry-lime yogurt sauce for dipping. The lamb burger was cooked perfectly at medium rare. The burger comes with an egg, aged cheddar, and slaw with harissa aioli and is plenty to share. We had the gin pepper drink and the coconut gin fizz to start. These were some of the best cocktails I have had. We were there during happy hour and tried the lamb slider, veggie slider, arepa, and sweet potato fries. All were wonderful and at a great price! For dessert we had the chocolate chip cookies with ice cream (absolutely exceptional) and the banana cream pie made with tahini- this one was a little heavy on the tahini for me, but still not bad. I came here for dinner on Saturday night, without a reservation, yet was still seated at a private high-top in the bar area. Our server was Francisco, and he was fabulous. I asked him which dishes use the right oils I needed, to follow my Mediterranean diet, for health reasons, and he worked with the chef to prepare me custom courses, to meet my needs. We started with Bison Burger - marinated in extra virgin olive oil - sliders, followed by a custom beet & goat cheese salad - based in olive oil. Then I had the Rock Fish, modified to use olive oil, along with other vegetables and a risotto base, that met Mediterranean diet standards. We finished by splitting the avocado-based key lime cheesecake, and I only had a few bites, and it was delicious. I'll also add that I ordered a low-sugar mocktail, and Francisco also helped me here. Just got back from Root Down in Denver, and I have to say, it was a fantastic meal.We opted to sit outside, which was perfect. It had just rained, so the air was fresh, and it felt really pleasant and bright out there. The inside definitely had a darker, moodier vibe, which could be great for a different occasion, but the patio was just what we wanted. The staff were incredibly attentive without being intrusive - always a plus. Now, let's talk about the food. Everything we tried was delicious: The Bison NY Strip was incredibly tender, and the sauce it came with was just divine. The Corn and Poblano Gnocchi had a wonderful texture - nice and crispy on the outside, but still soft inside. And the Red Rice Risotto, was served with generous amount of pesto, which added such a great depth of flavor and made the dish really stand out. The restaurant caters to family style - which wasn't what the group wanted so we opted for our own dishes. The risotto and the gnocchi were the heavier shared plates and was enough to food for us (we weren't too hungry) I also have to give them major credit for how they handled allergies. Someone in our group has quite a few, and both the menu and our waitress were incredibly helpful in navigating options. Plus, her plate came out clearly labeled, which definitely put us all at ease. It's those little details that really make a difference. We also sampled a couple of their cocktails. "It Takes Two to Mango" was a thicker drink with a smooth, subtle mezcal taste that I really enjoyed. The "Electric Grove" was on the sweeter side, definitely a fun, tiki-inspired drink. All in all, Root Down offers such a great combination of creative, delicious food, a lovely atmosphere, and truly excellent service.
