First experience with Rooter-Man and it was great! A homeowner never likes to call for a sewer backup but I will be contacting them if I ever need service In the future. They were courteous and helpful on the phone and scheduled someone for right after lunch. They explained they would provide a no-cost estimate on the scene and we were under no obligation to proceed if we were not happy. So no initial service call charge minimum! They were able to clear a minor blockage quickly and did not charge us as a courtesy since they arrived a little late due to an equipment repair before our stop. We had a sewage ejector pump go bad and had concerns about sewage getting backed up into our home. I called RooterMan and Dan came out within a few hours. For $486, he siphoned the sewage from the basin and indicated that the pump would be replaced with something better than what existed (Zoeller 1/2 hp pump). He indicated the estimate for replacement and adding an alarm (the ejector pump and alarm would plug into an outlet), would be between $4200 and $5800. We agreed to the cost because of the threat of sewage backup even though we suspected there was mark-up. I asked for an itemized list of the costs associated with the work and I was told that it would be provided after the work was done. The summary of charges is shown in the attached image. We mentioned this repair to a friend in the insurance industry and he indicated the repair should not have exceeded $2,000. The pump cost ~$500, alarm cost ~$150, and additional materials (PVC pipe, etc.) another $100-$200 at most. The job took a bit less than 2 hours and did not require 2 persons. We were never informed of the 4 hour minimum job charge (per person) even though we had asked for a listing of the expenses for the amount estimated countless times. My friend also indicated this was a prime example of price gouging. and that we should file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office given Sonoma County is currently under price gouging protections due to the storms earlier this year. I called Rooterman about installing two new on-demand gas water heaters, as my old ones were over 20 years old. They came out and gave me a bid that was reasonable, and they promised to get the job done in one day. They sent three men at 9:30 am three days later, Mike, Jayson and Tyler. Mike and Jayson explained what they were going to do, and Mike left after one hour. I was blown away. Jayson and Tyler were done by 4pm, and it looks far more professional than what the other plumber did 20 years ago. They covered my carpets, wore booties and masks, hauled away the old water heaters and garbage, and left the area cleaner than when they found it. Great price, great job. We found our kitchen sink full of water late Friday night, and our efforts to clear it with our small snake and a plunger didn't work. We did not have a plumber we felt good about calling, so we turned to Yelp and liked what people were saying about Rooter Man. A call at 8:00 am on Saturday was answered by an answering service, and within five minutes we got a call back. We were told a technician would arrive between 9:00 and 10:00 am. Shortly after 9:00 am the technician arrived. He quickly assessed the problem, explaining everything as he went along. He gave us a quote, explaining that the work was guaranteed for 30 days. We told him to proceed at which point he brought in his enormous electric machine and cleaned out the drain. It turned out the clog was about 30 feet away. He check the entire system under the sink as well. We honestly cannot say enough good things about our experience--the quick response, the knowledge of the technician and what we consider a very fair price for a weekend emergency. read more
