The Ropewalk is a big, noisy family restaurant that is new this year to Bethany. The menu is large and varied with lots of seafood and non-seafood options, starters, salads, sandwiches, long wine and beer lists and lots of fruity frozen cocktails. My Seafood Cobb Salad ($19) was fine, but nothing special. For kids, there are a sandpit and pirate ship play structure, Good Humor desserts and a peanut-free kitchen. One thing I hate is overpriced food that is crap. I get it, this is a tourist area so prices tend to be high, especially near the beach, however the tourist season is over. Treat the locals that live here full time with good food and we will support you in the off season. Lunch today, fish tacos ($14) with a side of waffle fries ($2). Waffle fries were cold, mentioned to the waiter, he offered to bring a new batch, I said no, I didn't want fresh fries after I ate my meal. Fish tacos were okay, a bit on the greasy side, lettuce and chopped tomato, with a pretty good sauce on top. Then I found it, a piece of very old lettuce, brown and slimy. Done. Asked to speak to the manager, she apologized and comped my meal. Husband had a hamburger, been craving one for weeks. It was just okay, not grilled, seemed to be a pre-made patty, not freshly patted into a hamburger. Really disappointed. The restaurant is quite interesting inside, very nice decorations and beautiful bar on the first floor. The $$ and the quality of the food did not match. Also, there were no prices on the cocktail menu. Prices for the beer and wine but not the cocktails so I assume they are $$$$. The floor near our table was dirty. Very nice atmosphere! You are met with a nautical themed decor, excellent murals painted on the wall and TVs surrounding the dining area. It is a bit loud, with exposed ceilings painted in black. The menu is very diverse. From seafood to handhelds, like burgers and wraps. Salads also are included on the menu. Had a chance to sample Murphy's Mac and Cheese, Deadliest Steam boat and the pulled pork tacos. The food all around was good. The Mac and cheese tastes great and was very creamy. The steamed potion of the meal was very tasting and appeared to be steamed in a seasoned broth. Well done. Ordered the Mermaid Water drink. Very tasting and a nice touch. Drinks come in very large plastic mugs...nice touch. Overall an excellent addition to the Bethany Beach restaurant scene! read more

Kids meals were delivered way to early so they were finished and ready to leave by the time we received our food. I usually don't write reviews on restaurants, but I have to because this restaurant HAS to be a JOKE...! My 3 friends and I decided to come here, hungry, after a long day at the beach, and our expectations were not met in the slightest. We got there and I was just wearing my bikini top along with some sweatpants, meanwhile my friends were wearing shirts but no pants over their bikini bottoms but had nothing said to them. I tried walking in but was shut down by a more heavy set girl with darker hair (i don't know her name.). She told me I couldn't come in without a shirt so i had to go to a nearby store and purchase one . I came back and everything was fine...UNTIL IT WASN'T! Two girls walked in and were both wearing their bikini tops with NOTHING said to them. I was FURIOUS. I talked to them in the bathroom and they felt the same as me and were very annoyed at the restaurant-- specifically the girl that told me i needed a shirt. I think it's very immature to pick and choose who needs to abide to these rules and i spent MY money on that shirt to get in. Now for the gross food, which was awful and salty. My friends and I were not satisfied at all with our meals. The most appalling thing about the food is the fact my friend ordered a Caesar Salad...but they gave her no dressing. It was basically leaves and croutons. She then asked for dressing and they gave her a small container of a white salty mess! Far from Caesar dressing...! The only good thing out of this restaurant was our waiter, Jack. He was very friendly, made sure we were doing ok and was always smiling. He was a great waiter! My friends and I loved him and agree he needs to leave this dump and work at a better restaurant because Ropewalk doesn't deserve him! Anyways, I'm just so shocked at how awful this place is and that one heavy set server with dark hair. The manager definitely needs to have a word with her! Please fix your food (specifically the salad) and start fixing your rules because you can't be located at the boardwalk and expect people not to wear their bathing suits. The only reason this place gets business is because it's one of the only sit-down places in the Bethany town center and people don't know better! You get pitchers for your drinking vessel which was awesome! I didn't have to ask for a single refill. The crab egg rolls are amazing and the Asian sauce it comes with makes them even better. The lobster and shrimp steamer was simple and delicious. My daughter had the snow crab legs and enjoyed them very much. My mom had the scallops and loved them. I'm only sorry we discovered this place on our last night there because I definitely would have gone back! read more

My husband and I ate there over the weekend. Never been there before. Order the lobster pot which we shared. Lobster was way overdone and chewy (I believe the lobster had been frozen). It came with roasted red potatoes which were very dry, a couple of slices of kielbasa and some steamed shrimp. Shrimp was good. Overseasoned everything with Old Bay. $39.00. Flies were all over everything. Heard some people at table by us complain about the food and flies. If you don't mind eating with Ronald Regan all around you (a life size statue! and memorabilia (we asked our waiter about all the Regan stuff). The food was God awful! We ordered cream of crab soup which had little crabs and was salty. The crab egg rolls were overcooked and had a canned crab meat taste. We have been to the ropewalk in OC and food was ok, so when we stayed in Bethany we decided to try the new place. I have honestly say there was nothing good about any of the items we ordered. My wife ordered the Cesar salad and fried green tomatoes with crabmeat. The salad was nothing more then lettuce drowned is Cesar dressing. (No cheese, no anchovies, nothing.) The tomatoes were straight out of the freezer deep fried and over cooked there was a few chunks of crabmeat and some sort of sauce poured over them but couldn't hide the fact they were over cooked and dry. I ordered the fried oyster entree which I can say the only good thing about the dish was the amount of oysters 12+ Again they were pulled out of the freezer thrown into the deep fryer over cooked and served to us. The only bright spots about our visit was the friendly bartender and the beer was cold. Go to one of the local restaurants in Bethany get true fresh food not deep fried "stuff" from the freezer. read more

Me and my boyfriend are tourists of this area. Wanted to try out this restaurant and it ended terribly. Got served fast and the waitress was great, but the food was bland at best, and not nearly worth the price we paid. Got a slushy drink and it tasted like pure alcohol but worse, barely any slushy flavor. As soon as we got our food the flies swarmed us! It completely turned us off and rushed us to get out faster. I would highly suggest they keep the doors closed because shockingly we were inside! All in all, they need to lower their prices and keep the flies out! Wishing we had a better experience. Stopped at Ropewalk and ate outside along the sidewalk in the sand. Good setting and service. However, the rest left much to be desired. We had to have two waters replaced due to dirty glasses with pieces of food stuck inside. Most of the beers listed as on tap were already kicked (but maybe just a challenge with Labor Day Weekend just finishing). Waiter was quick to replace them which was appreciated. Food was fine but over-fried with two much breading. Probably won't return but a convenient location with nice outdoor eating space. read more

There was no wait around 630PM, but we then waited 10-15 minutes before a waiter came to our table despite a large group of the wait staff congregating and joking with each other in a corner. To his credit, our waiter was great and comped my Ropewalk Cider. It seemed like he had come back from a break and picked up our table when no one else would. Food wasn't anything great. Ordered the house salad to start and it didn't come with any carrots (a small but minute easy detail). The cider was meh and barely had a taste. The waiter didn't ask how we wanted the burger we ordered cooked, and the best part of that meal were the waffle fries. Better burgers at five guys next door, but again, those fries would put up a fight. I ordered the bruschetta chicken pasta which was way below what I expected. The chicken was hardly seasoned, the dish did not come with any Parmesan on top as stated, and the "rose" sauce tasted and looked like they just boiled the pasta in with a can of cut tomatoes. The waiter brought out Parmesan after asking and with it brought a thicker pasta marinara sauce that while it wasn't the original rose sauce, made the dish taste so much better. The wings looked good passing by, and the Caesar dressing was pretty good too. The food got to us fast after we ordered so props to them for that, but maybe they're going for quantity over quality. Our waiter again was super personable and helpful, but still frustrating to be sitting less than 8 feet from all of his coworkers for 10-15 minutes clearly not having had someone even ask us if we wanted water. read more

We're usually big fans of rope walk! Brunch & service is always on par! Picked up some apps tonight and the bartender was really great. Ordered the crab cake egg rolls, hummus & crab bisque. Everything was wonderful except the crab bisque. Sad to say one of the worst I've ever had. It tasted like dirty sink water with a splash of cream and celery.
