My favorite neighborhood donut shop!! I love their blueberry donut and the glazed donut holes!

This place has the best donuts in San Diego hands down! The donuts are always so fresh and no matter what time of the day it is there's always a great selection. I've had the bear claw, the apple fritter, and a tiny pink frosted donut from here. All three were very fresh and not too crunchy and not too moist. It was perfect. I could definitely taste the apple in the bear claw and apple fritter. The frosting on the pink donut was so tasty! Of course I will be coming back, this place rocks! They have HUGE cinnamon rolls I want to try one day. read more

Croissant breakfast sandwich was bomb! Buttery croissant that you could tell was super fresh because it was so flaky. I can't even remember what meat was in it but the eggs, cheese and meat went so good on that yummy bread, you would forget too! Got a couple donuts to go so my little one could taste later...we loved them! I think I got a crumb and a regular glaze...all I remember is they were huge and really fresh! Almost got that giant Alaskan Donut but told my daughter we'd go back for it soon. read more

The place is small and looks just like a normal donut joint but these are no average donuts, nor are they some weird hipster donuts with kale or anything. These are old school delicious donuts! My review is just for the bagel breakfast sandwiches. I've never tried the donuts here they just don't seem to catch my eye. I worked across the street and a co-worker asked if I wanted a breakfast sandwich. I wasn't really all the hungry so I split one with someone. They wrapped the sandwich in foil to help keep in some heat which I appreciated, they even cut it in half since we were sharing. We got a plain bagel with ham, cheese, and egg. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR GOOD! The cheese was melted perfectly to where it had that stretch of cheese from the bite to the sandwich, the ham was warmed and bit cold that I've found at over places, and the eggs were cooked to perfection!! There was nothing I could pick out about changing the sandwich. I only wished I had not shared it haha. I knocked a star off because I never have cash, even though I'm in the banking industry. I always forget it. I don't live in SD any more but when my husband and I come to visit his mother, you best believe that you can find me here in the morning grabbing a bagel sandwich to go!! read more

Every morning, I stop in to pick up treats for Luv Bridal, the wedding dress store I am a stylist for just a few storefronts up from Rose Donuts. On weekends, the line is usually out the door, but it is well worth the wait. For only $2, you are able to get a dozen donut holes. Furthermore, their combos are such a deal! I have yet to try any of their sandwiches, but based on the customers around me, I think they are safe to vouch for. The variety they have is outstanding, especially given the relatively small space their shop occupies. From apple fritters, to Boston cream pie, to old fashioned donuts in various flavors, there is no doubt that *your* favorite donut, is at Rose Donuts. My main reason for writing my review is the customer service Rose Donuts provides. I have had a donut hole or two, and I did have one of their donuts once. All were delicious, but where I'm most pleased is how they treat me as a customer. I am always greeted with a genuine smile. They expedite the process, so though the line is out the door, your total time spent waiting for donuts is minimal. Even when ordering something that needs to be cooked, they take your order before you hit the register. Once you have paid for your meal, it's only a few minutes longer of a wait. FYI: Cash only. But- tax is already factored in. If it says $2 on the menu- it's exactly $2. Personally, I find that accommodation more than makes up for the inability to take credit. I have lived in this area since 2003. One day while in K-Sandwich, I watched a 3-year old boy attempt to eat this huge chocolate bar. That thing was about the size of his head! I asked his mother where she got this weapon of caloric mass destruction from and she pointed across the plaza to Rose Donuts. That was over 15 years and 4 jobs ago. And I am have been getting my donuts at Rose Donuts for the office since then. My personal favorite is the ginormous creme-filled maple bar. I have never bothered leaving a review on Yelp because like a selfish person, I always thought Rose Donuts would be there for me. Was driving by last night and saw the news cameras and roses outside the shop door. Went home and googled the news and found out what happened. It is very unfortunate. The husband and wife pair work long hours at the shop to make the donuts fresh daily. They remembered me and my orders all through the years. In my eyes, it is people like them (and K-Sandwich) that define a community. It is a tragic loss for us and they will be missed. read more

I have been going to rose donuts for about 20 years. It's become a family tradition for a long time. It's very sad to hear about randy. We loved his bagel sandwiches and donuts. They were always fluffy. Today, my dad and I visited and I'm sad to say the food was not the best or even close. I really want to see the family succeed so I felt the need to write a review so they can make a few changes. We ordered a bagel and cream cheese, the bagel was not toasted and disnt have much cream cheese at all. My dad got the ham and cheese croissant which was very doughy and almost not edible. Croissants should be soft and flaky. The donuts were not as fluffy. The 3 stars was for the very friendly staff. Toast the bagels and please try to fix the croissants. We would also love to see more bagel sandwiches like the fiesta bagel they used to make. Good luck rose family! read more

When I was a kid I got to pick out a donut from this shop every year for my birthday breakfast. To elementary school me, that was so very exciting and wonderful. And of course I loved the donuts. I came back last weekend for the first time since then. I was immediately grumpy because the prices were too high. Granted, they're only $1-2 each, but I expect this type of store to be cheaper. Certainly they are at other donut shops I love. I only bought one. But even though it was afternoon, my donut was fresh and fabulous. A simple glazed ring, light and fluffy and delicious. I can't believe I haven't done a review on this place yet. I have been going to this place since I was very little when my mom and I would do laundry next to this corner spot. While we waited for our laundry to dry we would go to this shop and get something to eat. I loved this place ever since. I've taken friends here and they love this place as well. I usually get the tuna club sammie w/ bacon and even before I walk in the door they remember what I get. I've been getting it for years :) Their donuts are great! I also love their breakfast bagels! The best donut shop in San Diego! I have tried every type of pastry here, and I've gotta say, my favorite is the regular glazed. It's fluffy and glazed almost the whole way around. The croissants are huge and flaky, and anything with frosting/flavoring/filling/sprinkles does not skimp. Hey, if you're gonna have a pastry, make it the good stuff! Also try the breakfast sandwiches. Nothing fancy, but great for about $3, and beats a drive-thru greasy mcmuffin any day! If you get coffee or hot chocolate they'll make sure they fill the cup all the way to the top. The nice family who owns this shop are there, working hard, all day every single day. The mom is very friendly and chats with us every time. The dad is a quiet man, but very polite. And occasionally their adult son helps out too. I live up the street and buy a dozen donuts every week to cover myself in while I lay in the tub. The dough is extremely fluffy and during my donut bath it carresses my skin in sensual ways that awaken my inner Goddess. The fresh cream rubs itself deep into my body and the icing frosts my cheeks every week. At first I am tough and strong againt its will, but once it breaks through I am softened, ready for more, and they give me more and more. I can't stop, then when we are both ready, jelly. I have already been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, not on the same day, of course. Come on, who do you think I am?! Some of the donuts here are huge! I have only tried the chocolate twist and the glazed and both were really good, very soft and tasty. The croissants were also really good. I preferred the ham and cheese croissant over the breakfast croissant though. The breakfast croissant has egg, ham, cheese, and bacon. It was just a bit too heavy for me and I'm not a huge fan of bacon. Yeah, I said it. The service is good. They are quiet, but nice. There are also a few tables inside. I tried a bunch - coconut, cinnamon crumb, chocolate fudge, old fashioned, chocolate alaskan (look at the size of that thing!), and a maple bar. The best were the cinnamon, old fashioned, and coconut donuts. The maple bar and chocolate fudge were way too sweet for first thing in the morning but they were scrumptious at at night after work.
