The black & white is where it's at. You can get a shot split into two, straight espresso and then a macchiato with some sparkling water to refresh your palette. Very cool concept that allows you to truly taste the coffee. The espresso was a bit on the sour side but reminded me much of my time in Italy where pretty much all espresso is puckery. :( The space is neat, but small and definitely limited if you want to come here and stay here and work. They have wifi but again the space is very limited in terms of seating which is great for the open space concept I think they're going for. One of my favorite coffee shops in Long Beach, it's such a cute corner spot in the community. Their menu is simple but always good quality drinks. They have free wi-fi and outlets sprinkled around the shop, and a few tables outside for the al fresco days. Parking is street only, but it's usually pretty easy in the area. read more

Loving the minimalist decor and spaciousness of the seating area. My house blend coffee is just okay. This chocolate croissant is really good. I agree with the previous poster that the baristas are friendly; however, I can't tell if the very cute male barista behind the counter is laughing at my tie dyed leggings or not (he actually asked me if I'm going to yoga later and claimed to like them, in between sideways glances and grins). I can't imagine that they're such an unusual sighting, given the location on 4th St and the ubiquity of blue hair and septum piercings around here. Overall experience: okay. The chocolate croissant is good and the coffee is decent. Parking at 7:15 am wasn't horrible, and I came at this time because it probably is at its best at this time. Lovely cafe. I was really bummed about the coffee, i got the Ethiopian drip coffee, i was really excited until i tried it. It tasted like starbucks and that bummed me out. Maybe it's just that one. Probably one of my new favorite coffees spots in Long Beach. I was hitting that mid-afternoon wall and needed something to pick me up ASAP. We had just spent the day in the sun and were heading to Retro Row to do a little browsing through the shops, so I definitely needed something to help get me through the rest of the day. The shop itself is spacious and has a good amount of seating. I love that there are so many windows letting in the natural light because it was a beautiful day in Long Beach and you wanted to get as much of that winter sun as possible. For coffee, I noticed they had a variety of cold brews. It was in the 90's outside, so I didn't want anything warm. The friendly gent at the counter gave me his picks and what flavor profiles each had and I ended up with the Kenya Gachatha. It comes in a small glass with ice accompanied by a small carafe with the rest of your drink. The whole order comes out on a wooden plate and it's almost too pretty to drink. Looking at the photos, it looks like it could be an awesome cocktail rather than a cup of coffee. It was everything I could have wanted and more and I literally downed both portions within a five minute period. It was super smooth and I got every coffee note that was in the description which was awesome. No cream is needed (for me anyways...) It's supposed to have notes of plum, wild honey and nectarine, but the honey stuck out the most. So good! Jaime went with an iced tea and I was surprised that they had a good amount of cold brewed teas as an option as well. If something wasn't avail on the menu, they'd make it for you and pour it over ice, which was nice. I wish I would have taken a pic of the choices, because the name escapes me. If you're looking for a pastries, they have a good selection that changes regularly. I'm coming back for you mini boysenberry pie! And how cool is it that they have bike service for local residents? I guess this place just isn't my style. Super hipster and full of the kind of people who just hang out in coffee shops. Even though this place isn't somewhere you go to hang out. It's seriously just a local coffee joint where you go to grab a cup and get on your merry little way. Good coffee - but I didn't finish mine and I'm not one to leave a good cup behind. The pastries were ok too - but they don't even make them in house so I'm not going to give them credit for it. The biggest issue with this place is their set up. They have some lovely corner real estate that I think needs a new layout. Awkward angles, weird furniture and uncomfortable patio furniture outside. The Music was on a continuous loop so we heard "Staying Alive" about 4 times while we were there. Over all the experience was not there for me. Will keep looking around the area for that perfect coffee spot! read more

My review is for both the shop & the pastries which they get from Caffeinated Kitchen. Not sure about all of the 5 stars as my experience was way different even though I really wanted to like this place. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, kind of dead. The place looks too "cold & stiff". The staff a couple of customers looked so out of it. I heard they had vegan donuts so that was the main reason I stopped by. First thing I noticed was that they keep their pastries on top of the counter uncovered. (eew). When I asked if they had vegan donuts the girl at the counter didn't answer but walked away & came back with a Tupperware container that had donuts. Uhm ok. I asked for 2 chocolate & she rings me up, $6 {seriously?} So I skipped the coffee & got them to go. To my surprise they ended up being sea salt chocolate donuts, which were pretty disgusting and couldn't even finish one. Not interested on going back. Yes the place is clean, VERY clean but I felt like I was at a store not a coffee shop. The employees were so serious, almost snoby. I rather head down to Viento or Portfolio where it feels more cozy & you see friendly faces with a more community feel to it. read more

Best coffee house and roaster in the greater Long Beach area! As someone who was spoon fed coffee as a child my addiction for good beans and great coffee knows no end. I had been shipping Stumptown or a couple other OC roasters to the house until I connected with Rose Park. I have used Rose Park's coffee for both my personal and work life the past year to ensure I have fantastic coffee all day long and whatever your drinking pleasure is they are sure to deliver. My wife who wasn't a huge coffee drinker has also been won over and now beats me out of bed to brew the first pot. Andrew and his team offer friendly service in a relaxed and mellow atmosphere and offer a great selection of savory and sweet pastries that pair well with your favorite coffee or tea. I enjoy my coffee black and have found the flavor and aroma of their beans to be excellent in a city where much of the coffee house coffee tastes burnt :) Vincent Saint Thomas blend and Mexican Nueva Linda are two of my favorites but their coffee offerings always hit the spot. They also have a great selection of teas and fun drinks both hot and cold if that is what you are looking for in a coffee house. Rose Park Roasters: bringing the smug, terrible service you expect in Abbot Kinney, Larchmont, or Silver Lake all the way to Long Beach. I'll sum it up: it was pretty good espresso served with a heaping side of hipster scoffing and smirking. I walk in, no greeting (despite everyone else coming in before and after me getting some sort of acknowledgement). I order a single espresso and the guy showing off his hairy drumstick legs in short-shorts SMIRKS at me, acting as if I just asked for a large double-double. Despite all this, I drop in some tip in the jar to no comment. The hipster douchebag turns to the barista, wearing a face of complete misery, and both exchange some knowing glances before she proceeds to start my drink. I take a seat, and wait. After a few minutes, I wonder what's taking so long, and glance over to the bar to see my drink sitting there while the two Heathers stand behind tittering over something. No calling out, no notice that my order was ready. An effort to distinguish itself from the artless hollering at Starbucks? Or simply douchey hipster laziness? In a bit, I use the restroom, and squeeze through the pass first before the barista. "Excuse me," I say. An apathetic glance is what I get in return. I hang out for a bit, and I have to decide whether or not I should leave my tray at my table and just split. I decide to be nice and bring it over to where I picked it up. I see a tiny little sign that says "leave dirty dishes in the tub near the bathroom." I bring it over and short-shorts is standing in front of the tub, so I hand it to him instead. No "thanks" or any reaction that you might expect out of a normal *service industry staffer*. No he stands there in slack-jawed judgment as if he still can't believe that *I* would be in his cafe. I would advise you to skip this place, but they treated everyone else who walked as if they were humans. Not sure what I did to deserve this service other than to walk in but there it is. read more

Magic brews can be found here. I swear. It must be the perfectly shaped ice cubes in their cold brew, or the delightfully foamy lattes .. but this is definitely where the magic happens. Sunday fun-days have had me spent sippin' on mildly sweet indulgences.. and the ensuing lineup is what i have savored: Ginger Rosemary latte (seasonal) - sweet; the ginger definitely carries the rosemary notes through the espresso.. this is definitely for someone who enjoys flavored lattes. Sweet Latte - moderately sweet; just enough simple syrup to extend the dark taste of espresso. Cold Brew (house) - creamy, chocolatey..slightly nutty. i have yet to taste a cold brew so silky, so suave. I was entirely taken aback by how luscious a cold brew can grow up to become. I can only hope all cold brews can strive to be like this one day.. Pondering my coffee colored memories have got me cravin' for more.. I'll be back for you, Rose Park. I was looking for a cool local coffee shop to treat myself to a cappuccino and, really, trick myself into working several hours on a Saturday. I came here based on Yelp reviews where people said it was great to study/work because it was quiet. Here's the deal with this place: their espresso is amazing, their pastries are delicious, their decor is perf for Instagram, but their seating is made for robots with no feeling in their bodies, not human beings. The seating in RPR is made for looks, not for staying long. If you're grabbing a cup with a friend, you'll be fine, but if you plan on setting up camp, try to grab one of the two tables not along the window. They're much more comfortable. There are a ton of outlets and their staff was nice. Weirdly, there were a TON of flies in the shop. It was so annoying. I will 100% be back, but I won't stay for long next time read more

Really nice place. Great expresso served with sparkling water to better cleanse the palette. The service staff are polite and kind, the barista, very competent and also kind. Overall a great experience with great coffee. Only con is the parking which is on the street and limited. Depending on the time of day, you will probably need to be motivated to park and walk from the surrounding neighbourhood. read more

I always struggle with ordering because I don't know if places have almond milk, soy, or coconut milk so I always have to ask. They also do different types of lattes but they don't say this, except for the specials. It was packed with people working on their laptops or reading both inside and outside. I found a spot to sit at in front of the "Welcome to the Process" sign. The coffee I chose was an almond milk beverage with 2 shots of espresso so I pretty wired. It was unsweetened which I prefer. Rose Park Roasters have an amazing aesthetic. I have yet to give them another try, so this review is based off my first impression. The decor is great. The staff seems friendly enough. The drinks were subpar compared to other coffee houses at the same expectation level. I don't think there was anything wrong with it, other than it was not my style. I ordered a latte, as I always do, and it didn't have enough espresso and was mostly milk. It's a delicate balance that's hard to achieve, but, unfortunately, I think they missed the mark.
