I come here once in a while for lunch. The decor is very elaborate and makes you feel like your are in another country. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is usually busy during lunch but your dish still comes out relatively quickly. Note: that parking is limited. They usually give an egg roll and soup with your entree for lunch. I always get the veggie fried rice Thai hot and it is always satisfying and full of flavor. I can't judge the restaurant on any other dishes, since I haven't had anything else. You need to be very specific with the spice level you desire as well. If you are looking for Thai food I would definitely come check it out for yourself. read more

It's not perfectly authentic (they have crab rangoon and shrimp tempura on the menu), but it's pretty darned good. Props for the traditional Thai restaurant decor and attire for staff. We started with the spring rolls, which were crispy and delicious. Then my husband had the Pad See Ew and I had the red curry with beef. Both entrees were huge, so much so that we both ended up taking enough home for another meal. Both were tasty and promise to reheat well. I was impressed that the waitress, on noticing how much rice I had left to go with the curry put extra rice in the to-go box without me asking. That was a nice, thoughtful touch. I will happily come back here. I love that they have thai chicken rice soup on the menu. I know where I'm getting take out the next time I have a cold! There are plenty of Thai restaurants in the area. That being said, this place is probably the best in the area. They have very extensive menu and it might take you a while to decide what to order. I ordered Thai iced tea and red curry with shrimp (medium hot). My husband ordered crab rangoon and Pat Thai with beef. The Pat Thai was one of the best I have had. The beef was very tender and it had the perfect amount of vegetable for me (not too much). The curry was good too, though the shrimp smelled a little bit. We orded medium hot for both, but to me they were more like mild. Spiciness really depends on each restaurant and if you like a little spicy like myslef, then I would say go hot at this place rather than medium. Crab rangoon was good and different: it was filled with yellow curry flavored cream cheese, not a typical crab rangoon with crab meat and scallion. The service was really good. Man this was excellent Thai food. We had just got in to Tampa and were looking for something easy and local and came across Rouen. Many things on the menu sounded amazing but the girlfriend had to go with curry dishes which are our favorites. I went with green curry (old reliable) and she went with the pineapple curry (new to us both). I can't say how good the pineapple curry was! I'll be looking for that at every Thai place I go, but sadly in KC won't be able to find it often. The service was nice, had a family feel to it, and the place was pretty busy on a Thursday night which is a good sign. Highly recommended. read more

Picked up an order. Food was flavorful but the order wasn't fulfilled the way we wanted. The receipt indicated exactly what we wanted... Interestingly enough I pass this hole in the wall Thai restaurant all the time. I actually even used to work on Gandy for years and it still never seemed compel to try it. I was meeting a friend who works on base for lunch and he suggested this place, as he often eats here because if it's proximity to work. We were the first to arrive so the staff was still setting up for lunch service. Once the doors were opened we were seated. The restaurant was very dark even though it was early afternoon. We ordered two of the lunch specials: the seafood pad thai and the panang curry which was served with rice. As a starter we were delivered soup. I didn't get to taste the pad Thai but it looked good and my friend ate it all so that is probably a good sign. The curry was ok but nothing special and I've had better. I am not in a rush to return to this restaurant but I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again. I've passed this place many times over the past couple of years and finally ventured in to try it out. Getting seated was pretty quick and service was fast and friendly. The chicken pad thai had a very peanuty sauce, in my opinion, and that overpowered the taste of the dish. The hot pepper basil chicken was decent, but I've also had better Thai food at some other Thai places around South Tampa. One very strange thing that stood out to me as I was eating my meal was the microwave going off in the kitchen pretty frequently, so that also led to my opinion on the quality of food at this restaurant. read more

Delicious! Ordered through Yelp via Grubhub for take out. The restaurant called me, immediately, to confirm the level of spicy desired. It was ready at the time I was told it would. We had a variety of dishes that my family enjoyed. For those who are new to Thai food or need something very easy on digestion, order the chicken sa teh. This is a 2nd great Thai place in South Tampa. Close and convenient. I enjoy the meat egg rolls (they are really spring rolls, but they call them egg rolls here and their spring rolls are something else). I like the Two Friends Panang with carrots and zucchini which gives it something a little different. The cashew chicken is also good and at the top for a simple dish (which can also be easily found in many chinese restaurants, but this is just better). I do not care for their tum kha gai, the consistency and texture of the soup just doesn't keep. Eaten in a few times, it's dark but interestingly decorated with authentic Thai flair. We came here on an early Saturday evening. We were seated promptly and service was just right. We both enjoyed a Singha beer, and everything else was of the peanut variety.. My boyfriend had the chicken satay with the peanut sauce app. Though he maintains 'the chicken is just a vehicle for the peanut sauce', he did enjoy the chicken. It was thinly sliced and was full of flavor. He had chicken panang curry and I had the tofu panang curry. We both thoroughly enjoyed. It had red & green peppers and zucchini that was perfect. Good ambience, so-so service, average to below-average food. We ordered the Tom kha veg and ginger tofu veg. The Tom kha soup was served cold and wasn't cooked properly (grainy gravy - though the flavor was okay). The ginger tofu, which comes in a brown sauce was actually good (the tofu was cooked well), however the extra cashews that they added were burnt ($2 extra for a total of 6 cashews that turned out to be burnt). one of the waitresses seemed to suffer from ADD but the other one was quite good so service was about average. Pretty good food but a little on the spicy side. I was expecting spicy but even the medium heat option was too much. Service was excellent. Big problem is the bathroom. I can smell the urinal from my table. Think they need to get the pipes cleaned out. It's pretty bad. Food is good though but if I ever eat here again I'll get it to go. Even better than my first time here.... I decided I needed a Thai redemption, after a horrible expirience at a restaurant claiming to be Thailand, a few days. So i decided to come here +I have had to laundry accross the street. Any way walk in greeted by friendly staff. Sat down to a wobbily table, asked to be moved, so got moved with a smile. I really wanted a drink while I waired but Luigi next door was full. Sat down, grabbed a beer. Now again I still wanted Thai food to fill a craving but was too hungry this time. Anyways order spring rolls, not 5 maybe ten minutes the young thai server brings me spring rolls, hust what I wanted. Fried? Nooooo. I wanted fresh. So I ask if they had them, but to no avail. So I asked if they are good. So of course she says "yes" . I try one, and almost burn my mouth on the second bite its that good. I was impressed cosidering I do not like fried Thai food. ( I would have a picture but they dissappeared ;) ;) --) Next time I will try more options. Once again, good food again, even better service and again my cup was not allowed to be empty...maybe they read my last post?? Hands down, my favorite Thai restaurant in Tampa so far...and I eat a lot of Thai food!! In fact, I traveled to Thailand a few years ago, and this has been the most authentic food I have had since that trip. The menu is one of the most diverse Thai menus I've seen in the area - pages filled with so many options, it's difficult to go wrong. Soups, salads, apps, noodles, rice, curry...you name it, nothing has been a disappointment for me. Let alone I am always able to enjoy it for future meals as the portion sizes are very generous, a total bonus for someone that loves this place as much as I do. Rouen Thai also boasts on-site dried and hand-crushed Thai chili peppers, not something you see everyday, but it definitely gives their food an extra kick, even if you just order it "medium." I also thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. The place is decorated beautifully and there is an option to sit at an authentic thai table (no shoes and your feet hang underneath the table as you sit on a pillow on the floor). The service has always been great - very friendly staff and never a wait for the food to get to the table. Each time I'm in, they also seem to do a great take out business - if I lived closer, I'd be there multiple times a week I'm sure! Rouen Thai is definitely in my Top 5 favorite restaurants, and the first Thai restaurant I'd recommend to anyone. read more

One of the better Asian restaurants in the area. That reason is the same one we all go out to eat - we want good food... and they serve it up. There's parking available on most days. The restaurant itself is dark but decorated nicely. It's clean. In my must recent visit, I ordered the drunken noodles with medium heat. The entree was hot and good. It was lacking in veggies. It is located at a pretty isolated location on Gandy. Doesn't look like it has a lot of customers as you drive past. Most of the time I don't like to try out restaurants when there isn't a lot of car in the parking lot, it is just indications that it may not be good but I was wrong. This is one of the place that has one of the best pad thai in town. Everything else taste good too. The service could be improved but the food is one of the best in town. We have been eating in and taking out from Rouen Thai for years as we love nearby and have never been disappointed. My wife loves the Tofu or Shrimp Pad Thai and I always get the Crispy Duck with green curry sauce. We always get an order of vegetable fried rice.All are enough for two meals. I had driven past Rouen Thai a number of times, on my way to kickball. I was always curious to try it, and it had good reviews. Fortunately an excuse arose when the girlfriend picked up a Groupon for it. I was instantly impressed with the decor. Usually Thai restaurants have unique decor, but this was the best I've seen in Tampa Bay. There were even a few areas to sit on pillows while you eat. As we'd never been and were curious to try everything, we got the Rouen Thai Sample, which has the following: -Shrimp Tempura: recognizable and your average. -Fried Wontons: not your average fried wontons, as they are triangular, and the meat is ground into a paste. Still, very flavorful. -Crab Rangoon: this might drive some people away, because it has curry powder in the mix. A new take on CR, but I think I'll stick with a more traditional version. -Egg Roll: It wasn't exactly apparent which roll was which, though one is in a philo dough roll and the other in something else. The egg roll was nice, full of meat and veggies. -Spring Roll: it looks different, tastes different. But the taste is great. Would order these again. On to the main course Girlfriend go the Chicken with Garlic and Black pepper. I think I was a bigger fan of it than she was. A lot of simple flavor, came out well. I went with the Pad Thai, hot. Usually when you go to a new Thai restaurant, you check out their pad thai. This was really good, but hot was HOT. Nose started running before I was even close to done. Both were great but I thought there was a bit too much of the chili sauce on the volcano chicken. The chicken was made really well though and it had an awesome flavor. I loved it! I first went to Rouen Thai based on recommendations from friends that had been to Thailand. They said that it was "really good for the area." What I didn't realize at the time was that there just aren't a lot of good Thai restaurants in South Tampa. One of my best friends growing up is Thai so I have sampled lots of deliciousness at her home over the years; its one of my favorite types of cuisines and I'm picky. Rouen Thai is close to where I live so I go fairly often. It's pretty decent thai food...I just wish that they would kick it up on the flavor. The food just doesn't have a lot of that traditional flavor I love. I'm not talking about spiciness, they can always kick that up for you no problem. I'm talking about the lemongrass...the white pepper...the lime...the fish sauce, all the dishes I've tried just need "more." It just doesn't have enough fragrancy. I'm not sure if they're trying to play it safe and appeal to a wider pool or what. Most of the patrons I've seen are not Thai. The service is great, they're always very attentive and accommodating (even when I showed up 5 minutes before closing begging for some Tom Yum to go). The restaurant itself is very nice, there's a lot of wood carvings on the walls and a lot of art and details throughout the whole place. Let me start by saying, I will never go back again. I was there around 1pm, I had to get dinner which was more expensive but who eats dinner at 1? I wanted to change white rice for brown, so the server told me its additional $2. I though it was expensive (Most thai places charge $ .75-$1), but I still asked for brown rice. When my check came, she had charged me $4. When I asked the server, she said, she forgot to mention about it that for Dinner menu its $4 to change to brown rice. She didnt apologize or anything, she made it seem like I just have to pay and thats it. I think $4 to change white rice to brown is pretty expensive, but whats worst is for the server to not even mention about it. Not only that, why would she not even apologize for it? Bad service, the food was alright. its not great but its not bad either. However, didnt have a great experience so I wont be visiting the place again. This was the worst experience we've had with a restaurant in Tampa. Food was bad and we were treated as if we were in interrogation. Staying in, ill, on a Saturday night we figured we'd pick up take out from here. The phone order was an ordeal but insignificant regarding what followed. We put in a big order including massaman curry, pad thai, Papaya salad, and satay, things you find in every Thai restaurant. We also always get Tom Kha without the chicken but they wouldn't make it that way. On a Saturday evening the place was completely empty. We picked up the order, as we drove away I open the Papaya salad box. I'm surprised at how small the portion is, and also how old the veggies in it look, like they were cut three days ago. I take two bites from it and it tastes nothing like papaya salad, just a heavy garlic taste, then there is a huge piece of garlic, a little bi grated on one side. And rotten lettuce. I would have put away the lettuce and the garlic and eaten the rest of it if it was edible at all -- I like Papaya salad that much. We were only two mins away and went right back. The older I guess manager lady sees the garlic, the rotten lettuce, hears its bitter, 85%of the salad is still there -- she doesn't offer to have it remade or anything else, and says won't refund it because it was eaten. The whole attitude was very upsetting and not worth $8+ and we were shocked the restaurant would not take responsibility and would not care at all about their reputation. She eventually agreed to refund the salad but not before asking each one of us for our name, phone numbers (which she already had because we put the order on the phone and paid with a card) -- and then asked for my ID! This was pure harassment. The food is not authentic at all -- in addition to the worst papaya salad I've ever had (probably ate at over 100 Thai restaurants) the Pad Thai, which is a staple in US Thai restaurants, was terrible. The portion was big, however, this clearly was not made fresh. It completely lacked flavor, not even a hint of lemongrass or lime, nothing. First time I've had a few bites of Pad Thai and left it. They put big chunks of green peppers in Massaman curry -- we've never seen that anywhere. And it was more dark orange to red than dark yellow. Satay was also very bland and a super small portion. The decor inside looked nice, it's too bad neither the food nor the service matches even the most mediocre Thai restaurants in the country. read more

I used to visit this restaurant a lot and I would always get the garlic pepper chicken and it was always amazing but as time has gone by this restaurant has lost its charm. My husband and I decided we were in the mood for some Thai food and I remembered this place. The restaurant it's self is very pretty. We started with the spring rolls which were very good. The main dinner was Very disappointing. my husband ordered a dish with noodles and what he received was a bowl of ramen noodles for $13.00 and I ordered the sweet and sour chicken which barely had chicken and the source was gross. I got the shrimp pad Thai which tasted like they used old oil or something, not good at all, and I've never had pad Thai that didn't come with a lime but sure enough that was the case. Then I ordered spring rolls and asked if the were shrimp was told yes but no. It was 4 small deep friend cabbage rolls that I paid $7 dollars for.
