A friend of mine recently brought this place and their happy hour to my attention and the deals seemed so unbelievable, I had to go see for myself. She recommended that I make a reservation for happy hour because of how packed it can get so I made one which was definitely smart since it was pretty packed for being 5pm. I took her advice and ordered solely from the happy hour deals with was such a steal! All of their socials (appetizers) are half off their original price and cocktails are $6-$7. For the quantity and quality of these appetizers, this deal is so worth it. My boyfriend and I ordered the crab cake maison, pepperjack boudin dip, and eggplant & crawfish apps to split. These 3 apps alone were more than the enough food for the two of us. My favorite dish was the crab cake maison which were some of the best ones I've ever had. They had huge chunks of crab meat and were topped with a delicious house remoulade and a tasty, surprisingly well-paired chimichurri. Our second favorite was the eggplant & crawfish dish which was so so delicious with the creamy crawfish sauce on top. We also loved the uniqueness of the boudin dip and it had big chunks of meat as well as lots of pepperjack. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop cocktail and a glass of white wine for my drinks. My boyfriend ordered the old fashioned and the moscow mule which aren't usually my favorites, but I tried his and thoroughly enjoyed them! Our waiter was incredibly friendly and checked on us often. The food came out fast and we just loved the nicer look of the interior. This place would be great for happy hour or a special occasion like a birthday, graduation or even just a date night! Nice place. Would def try some other things. Had mushroom bienville, you can skip it. It was ok. Had garlic chili oysters. Really enjoyed them as it's a break from the normal way. Tiny but it's not in season so understandable. Tried the duck and andouille gumbo. That was the whole meal for me. Just so perfectly done. Enjoyed it so much. Had the redfish roulade and it was decent but wouldn't do it again. Stuffing is a little odd. Ended with the brownie Napoleon and eh. Brownie should never be dry for me. Went on a Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago and the wait was almost 2 hours because of a large party and it seems like a popular place. My 4 friends and I were able to be seated at the bar though. The service was great. Everyone who waited on us was very friendly. I had the seafood stuffed mushrooms, they were delicious. Also tried the eggplant with crawfish, the crawfish sauce was good and the eggplant was nice and golden, it just needed more seasoning. We wound up getting a free dessert because it was one in my group was celebrating a birthday. Would definitely go back. Rating is 4.5- 5 stars for the service, 4 for the food. They need a professional cleaning company to clean all upholstery in restaurant as it is visibly dirty and stained. The manager (who showed us to our table) is now seated at a customer table in main dining room eating himself a meal. Staff clearly on break sitting at another table in the main dining room. I called about a week prior because I had a group of 8 teenagers that wanted to come in for a birthday dinner. Myself and 2 friends wanted to be there, but not at the same table. I didn't get the name of the man that I spoke with, but I'm assuming he was a manager of sorts. He accommodated my request without any issue. He was actually the first one to greet us at the door when we came in. We were seated immediately with the birthday group at a table and us adults close but not too close. Just as I was seated, I had received news from another child of mine, that her hamster had died, and she was at home quite distraught. My server, and I didn't get her name either, stood there and talked to me, and was so sympathetic. Beyond that she was attentive, and patient understanding that we weren't in a rush, but made sure we always had what we needed. Later in the meal, the manager came and checked on us, and also brought up the recent passing in our family of the hamster. At the end of the meal as teenage girls to do the birthday group roamed around the restaurant looking for the ideal photo spots. The restaurant was so accommodating the entire time! Might I mention there must've been a winter formal going on at the same time because they had several groups of teenagers in attendance. In regards to food, I had the garlic salmon, which was cooked perfectly. And I highly recommend the blueberry lemon drop martini. My boyfriend and I made lunch reservations at Rouj Creole on Valentine's Day. The restaurant is a bougie relation to city pork - the equally trendy younger sister that prefers raw oysters and a fancy cocktail over barbecue and beers (not that a tasty selection of beer isn't available at rouj). This is an upscale casual restaurant, with a menu bested in moderness only by its simultaneously industrial and velvety interior design. At places like this, diners also pay for aesthetic - so come prepared to part with a few dollars. I was very happy that the menu strikes a nice balance between freshness and southern comfort. We paired really decadent and cheesy chargrilled oysters (a must try!) with a Caribbean salad and pesto chicken sandwich. The mussels frites we ordered were classic, but not the best option if you're looking to try some of Rouj's more unique offerings. The service was prompt and very friendly. When my drink order wasn't available, our waiter brought a free sample of another recommendation for my approval. I took my wife here on a spontaneous date night. I chose this restaurant because it looked great and the reviews were phenomenal. I wish our experience was; however, it left me perplexed. First we arrive and were seated. The establishment was clean, had a nice ambiance, and the staff were friendly. We looked over the 8.5x11" menus, and tried to whittle down the great options. Justice, our server, was on top of it and told us that there was a menu change and so some items were no longer available and there were new items that were not on the menu.... Depending upon what menu you had. This made me ask myself why give us a borderline useless menu that appeared to come right off an at-home printer? Why not just print accurate menus for the night if you don't care to invest in professional menus that reflected the ambiance of the restaurant? Quizzical. Then we order drinks. I decided on the Flying Tiger amber ale because I hadn't tried it yet. Justice came back to tell us the CO2 was out and the only beer available was Ultra... (how do you let your CO2 run out when you have a bar?) and then I watched bottles of other beers get delivered to other tables and at the bar (come on, Justice, you're better than this). So we used our useless menus and our useful waiter and pick our dinners. I ordered the duck with butter beans. The duck was phenomenal. I loved it. As soon as I tasted the beans though... I coughed from all the salt. It caught my wife off guard. I gave Justice a heads up and he offered a red beans and rice side. After going back to the kitchen he told me the beans were "a little too salty" (culinary understatement of the night) and were being taken off the menu for the evening. My wife ordered the steak salad and the salad portion was great, but there was about 1-2 ounces of sliced steak. It was good, but she was hoping for more, especially for the price. Then the check came and I still had to pay for the duck and butter beans, but not the red beans. I guess that's even. For the price of the evening I expected a lot more. There's no way there should have been this many easy to fix errors or nuances (eg menu). To all the Five Star Reviewers: glad you had a great experience. Ours was lackluster. Let's just say that the grits and eggs were the best parts. BUT- the burger was still on my list, so... The next day, I went for the burger and bam!!! It was awesome. The fries were good, but nothing to be blown away by. I got the burger in the real NOLA Poboy bread and I was in for a real treat. The beer mustard was surprisingly good, and I tried a sauce called Brick sauce and I was equally as impressed. Decided to come back again the next day only this time with my wife and overall the entire experience was much better. Evan was our server and she was great. Although it was pretty busy our food was timely, hot, drinks kept full, etc. Today we had a few different menu items and the BBQ Shrimp app over the grits were delish. Was a little sad they were out of the Moules Frites though. Burger was yummy and my wife had the Oyster BLT which she enjoyed. We ended it with the Apple Pie Nacho Desert which felt like a deconstructed Apple Pie and it was pretty good as well. Rouj doesn't disappoint. They have an excellent, diverse menu with tons of options. The interior design is amazing, and the waiters and waitresses are really charismatic. Service overall was pretty slow. My meal started with an appetizer of chargrilled oysters. I'm a bit of a chargrilled oyster snob, so I wasn't overly impressed. The taste was fine (too much parmesan cheese, though), but these were the tiniest oysters I have ever seen. Large oysters usually don't have much flavor, but these were just ridiculously small. The fish buerre blanc was my entree, and it was truly wonderful. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the fried artichoke packed a ton of flavor. The lemon sauce was just right. For dessert, I had the bananas foster. I'm very critical of bananas foster, but this one was pretty much perfect. Our server, Denver, had a great personality! He made the night memorable and fun. I'll definitely be back. You can tell the place will be successful. It is no longer that new, but it was packed on a Sunday night. We had the baked brie, moules frites, johnny cake shrimp tacos, crab cake maison, crawfish tamales, and smoked caribbean wings. While all of the food was super yummy, I think my favorites were between the moules frites, the crab cake and the shrimp tacos. The mussels were so yummy and the fries were crispy, well seasoned and stood up well against the butter sauce and the sauce that was on top which was soooo good! The crab cake was fantastic, lump crab meat, perfectly seasoned, ugh delicious. The tacos were wrapped in a johnny cake (like a pancake, but more of a cornbread taste) as opposed to a tortilla. Shrimp wasn't overcooked, and the avocado cream and pineapple salsa worked really well together. The brie, wings and tamales were also very, very good and I'd recommend them. I wish I would have tried the frog legs as well, but I'll have to go back soon to get those. The space is a lot larger than I thought it would be with a really cool vibe. The food is more on what some would consider the fancy side, but the atmosphere is very versatile. They offer a unique, upscale spin on many Louisiana classics while still maintaining the essence of creole cuisine. They had so many dishes I wanted to try and had a hard time choosing just one. One thing was clear- I want to go back soon to try more of their food. The prices were a little higher than I was expecting, but they were on par with the quality of the restaurant. This dish was exquisite, and although French Fries on top of oysters is something I've never seen, I freaking loved it! New restaurant at Perkins Rowe - it's a modern Cajun twist on simple entree's. If you are looking for a date night place to take a loved one or a girls night out - this is the place to go. The menu items are a little pricey but hey YOLO !!!! I would say this is not a place for little kids. I ordered the pasado (which is fish) to my surprise it was a very small portion of salmon it was half the size of the palm of my hand. Thankful that my meal came with a saffron rice that had a mixture of shrimp, 1 mussel, crawfish tails & chorizo - it lacked some spices & the salmon that was on top was way over cooked & dry ( I was going to say something but it took forever to get my food I was starving). I did however try the classic oysters they were good but in my opinion had too much salt on them. read more
