We stopped by while in downtown Bellevue while looking for new bakery cafe type places. Staff are very nice and helpful, and there are a couple of small tables. The pastry offerings are quite good and seem to be made in-house - those are 4 stars in my book! In terms of coffee, it seems they offer coffee through Caffe Mauro which I'm not familiar with, but is fairly darker in character. If you're looking for more independent coffee roaster type flavors, I would stick to the pastries. read more

The sizing of the pastries is pretty big for the price and it can still meet your need for a pastry and coffee; but I'd say the pastries are pretty mediocre. They are very bready, less the true texture and style of an actual croissant or pastry. It veered more towards bready than croissant texture where the croissant reminded me of a Costco large sized croissant (which are still good of course!). If you're looking for a true croissant and pastry experience, I recommend Baked Flours in Beacon Hill, L'Experience Paris on Mercer (though they're kind of expensive), or Bakery Nouveau in Burien or West Seattle locations. My friend and I ordered the croque madam and we agreed that the overwhelming taste is just egg. The unique ingredient in this sandwich is the sliced pears, but in our case, sliced pear (singular). Had they included more thinly sliced pears and had seasoned or included a sauce in the sandwich, I think it the flavor would've been elevated. We heard about this place a couple weeks ago and decided to give it a try. We live 2 1/2 hours away and frequently come to the Bellevue/Seattle area for fun, and cultural gastronomical experiences. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted quickly and sincerely. I could tell this was going to be a great place. I asked if the croissant sandwiches were still available, the cashier said "You bet! My mom makes all of the bread and pastries fresh daily." There's always something special when you step into a family-owned establishment and you are waited on by the baker's son and his mother waves at you from the kitchen. I could tell, this was not your average pastry/coffee shop. They have a whole selection of sandwiches (including grilled varieties), as well as salads and other delicious items. Today I ordered the Vietnamese coffee. It was made in a latte style fashion, and was absolutely perfect. My wife ordered the oat milk chai latte, sweet but not overly sweet. I ordered a chocolate filled almond croissant which was sweet and buttery with just the right amount of chocolate, so as to not be overpowering. I also ordered a lemon - blueberry muffin. It came with a tasty streusel topping and was not overly sweet. For the main course, my wife ordered the bacon, cheddar and egg croissant. I ordered the smoked ham, cheddar, and egg croissant. I didn't know this place existed until I did a random search for pastries in the area. One of the issues is the cafe is located across the street from major construction on 106th Ave NE between Main Street and NE 2nd Street. I also don't walk that way often due to the construction. On a Sunday, the area was quiet. I would have to check it out during the weekday to see if construction or other outside noises affect the inside ambiance. It's located in the same general building as Hai Di Lao but its entrance is further down 106th Ave NE towards Main. The outside looked cute and I appreciated a menu outside the premises on the window (though it didn't have the full desserts/coffee items). There wasn't any direct outdoor seating that I noticed but I assume that was because of the garage entrance being right next door. The inside wasn't super trendy in terms of aesthetic but it definitely was a calming place. This is a place I would imagine doing work while drinking coffee/tea. (Someone had their laptop out in the space but I don't know if wifi was available) At that time of the day, I was only interested in pastries so I looked through the pastry window. There were familiar items like mousses, tarts and creme puffs. I was in the mood for something citrusy so I took the a dessert listed as Mango Delice. The people at the cafe were sweet and efficient with my order. Everything and everyone was spaced appropriately (plus masks when not eating). There was music but nothing too distracting from zoning out. The pastry was fine though I swear I didn't see that it had coconut inside until after tasting it (not allergic so I'm good). Though on their website, it is listed as Mango Coconut Delice so maybe something was missed. I would recommend checking their website to see all the general options so you are prepared to see what they have. We were surprised when we got here at 8:30 and it was already mostly sold out of the pastry case. I ordered the avocado toast and a vanilla latte, both were really good! They do have a full menu besides the pastry case which I didn't know. Service was friendly, took a little bit for food to come but they only had one person on the coffee bar so makes sense. Uggghhhhh, I really, really wanted to like Royal Bakehouse because the staff are the sweetest people! The food and drinks were just so lackluster that I can't imagine coming back here. (Sigh) I had a meeting with my colleague who wanted to check out Royal Bakehouse and I'm always down to try new spots in my neighborhood. We came here on a Thursday for lunch and the place wasn't too busy, with a few patrons dining in and outside. We were able to snag a table outside, but note that there's a lot of construction going on across the street, so can be hard to hear your party. The menu had primarily sandwiches and salads for a heavier meal, and pastries and desserts were in the display case. I ordered a strawberry Vietnamese coffee, roast beef sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. They bring out your food once it's ready. My drink came first and I was surprised to see how light the drink looked since Vietnamese coffee is known for being really strong and have that darker color. Sadly what I feared was true, as the coffee was super milky and the strawberry flavor was so syrupy. I decided to take it back and asked if I could get another drink. The employee was very apologetic and suggested that the iced mocha would be better, as it's stronger in coffee flavor. So I just went with that. Sadly, when I tasted it, it was milky again, which took away from the coffee flavor. The employee checked in with me to make sure the drink was better, and I just didn't have the heart to tell her it was still undrinkable. The roast beef sandwich was better. I was relieved that the hot sandwich was tasty and liked the pepperoncinis in it, to add some zest. The side salad was tough to eat, even with the side dressing. The texture reminded me of eating kale without it being massaged. The chocolate chip cookie was harder than expected, so was crumbly and not at all soft-baked, as I had hoped for. Lots of negatives with the food and drinks, especially for the price. Therefore, the stars are mostly for the friendly and welcoming staff here. I had heard good things about this place from my dental office! I ordered 6 pastries on the phone for a friend's dinner party: raspberry and caramel millefeuilles and tiramisu eclairs (2 of each). They were absolutely delicious and nicely decorated!! The staff patiently walked me through their available pastries on the phone and took my order. They were also so nice and helpful during pickup. The pastry box was quite large, but pastries were packed securely with a sticker at the bottom and didn't move during transportation. I can't wait to go back! Not only are their pastures giant, but reasonably priced. They are almost too beautiful to eat. We pretty much never go out for a sandwiches-type meal but wanted something light while out running errands. This place was a pleasant surprise with their options, taste, and portion size! Had we known there was this much food, we probably would've just split one order. I also wish we had gone earlier in the day because while the tiramisu eclair was good, it definitely wasn't fresh -- but that's not their fault since we stopped by a little later in the day and this was their last one. Found this place by accident when I was looking for a coffee shop. I decided to give a try based on the reviews. While I was looking at the menu outside, I noticed that the guests went in and out constantly. When I walked in, I liked the display of the parties and friendly service. I ordered a Reuben sandwich, some pastries, iced tea and cold brew coffee. Although they didn't have iced tea on the menu, they made it happen. I was appreciative. The sandwiches came with the complimentary drink and I picked the coke. They had a couple of dining tables and outside seating. It's really good to know. Got a hazelnut cream puff, which was fresh and absolutely delicious, accompanied by a velvety Cortado. The cream puff went down so fast that I found myself with some more cravings, so I got a caramel mille feuille, which was also very fresh and amazing, much better than I remembered. Wonderful bakery, great staff, good service, definitely one of our new favorites in the Bellevue area. You should definitely put this on your list of places to swing by for a coffee date or a enjoyable breakfast on your day off.   Let me start by saying I have now been to this quaint little bakery a total of THREE times. That means it is probably worth a visit (or three). Every time I have enjoyed that moment of walking through the doors and gazing at the glorious baked delights behind the counter. They have everything from sandwich meals to crepes, to a full espresso bar (including teas and coffees) to croissants and eclairs. I have dropped by in the morning, in the afternoon, and closer to closing and they definitely run out of things at the end of the day, so you know it's good.   The service is delightful. The employees are friendly and patient and always offer great suggestions when you are in a pickle or just plain overwhelmed by the options. The owner is usually standing by and wakes up at 3 am everyday to bake all the goods with love which shows. She is also so kind and seems to treat her employees well. I love that they serve the food on real dining ware if you are eating in - it makes the experience personal and homey. You do have to standardly bus your own table, but they still clean the tables and everything is so neat and clean.   Here is the actual food review. Between my visits I have tried the tiramisu éclair, the chocolate hazelnut crème puff, the fresh fruit danish, the almond croissant, the croque madam, and the chocolate almond croissant (just a few of them obviously). I would start by saying their pastry crème is wonderfully rich and well made, packed with flavor not to mention well filled and their éclair and crème puff choux dough is light, airy and perfectly baked I would highly recommend either of those as a decadent treat. Forewarning there usually is only one left at around 2pm. The almond croissants were also delicious. I will preface this with the fact that my husband and I LOVE almond croissants. We try one from about every bakery we go to. Our favorite so far is bakery nouveau in the capitol hill area. I would say this almond croissant is up there among the best ones. The almond filling is wonderful and abundant - the inside is moist and flavorful and the dough of the croissant is delightfully fluffy. They were very generous with the almonds on the outside. A delicious almond croissant, though I do like the twice baked textures a little more. The fresh fruit danish also had a great croissant that was fluffy and airy and beautifully formed. The cheese filling was the perfect level of sweetness with fresh fruits on top. I very much enjoyed it. The croque madam was also very delightful. It was not an American version with the mornay sauce and had a slice of pear which was a pleasant surprise, but the bread was fresh and a wonderful texture and the ham, cheese, egg, and spread ratio was perfect. It was warm and delivious and came with a complementary salad and drink (as a bonus). The salad was so fresh and delicious as well.   Their drinks were also good. Their espresso is well made and strong. The employees are great baristas and know how to make it just right. I ordered a cappuccino x 2 both of which were fabulous. The third time I ordered an iced tea which was freshly brewed, well timed (so not bitter) and customized with some sugar and ice for me. The ambiance and location is great for a meet up with a few friends or just one or two. There are places you can also sit to get some work done or read a book. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the patio outdoor seating is great for Washington summers with umbrellas and a light breeze. They have parking in the garage next door which is so convenient, and they validate it which is great and makes it easy to stop by for short or long periods of time. The price was the only downside, things were on the pricier end. Each visit I left spending at least ~$20 for a coffee and 2 pastries. However, this seems to be fairly standard with the inflation and the Bellevue area.   In summary TLDR, I really enjoy this bakery and plan to support them in the future. Their baked items are tasty and well-made and everything else is also convenient and delicious. The only downside is the prices are a little higher. We will be back to try many more items and enjoy the ambiance of this quant bakery. read more

How can anyone resist the smell of freshly baked pastries especially croissants as you walk by this place. Cute bakery recently opened and conveniently located to where I live(walking distance). This is next to rite aid on 106th so you can park and walk over. They offer a good variety of pastries, coffee and have lunch options. Stopped by this morning and grabbed coffee which was yummy, didn't have the burnt after taste like few other coffee places have. Bought freshly baked croissants, you know they were fresh as the first bite you take the flakes are everywhere. It was so yummy and so was the Danish pastry. You can taste the freshness in their pastries. Their price point very comparable to other places around the block and cheaper than the French bakery a block away. My family has been trying out this place a few times now and have been super impressed with it! All of the pastries I have tried so far are amazing. The coffee itself is very good and doesn't taste too burnt like Starbucks. The decor in the coffee shop is beautiful and the staff is really nice. It is brand new and so far I've been three times over the past two days for my coffee fix. Highly recommend and hope they do well! Only thing slightly off was the salad dressing. It's olive oil (no vinaigrette) or thousand island only. I'm assuming this just just because they are new. I would love to see a olive oil vinaigrette combo or a caesar. read more

All around it was a fine place. Nothing impressive, nothing terrible. Medium. I'd call it medium. The music was medium. It was light jazz. Nothing with personality, but nothing offensive. It was like being in a pleasant elevator. The cinnamon rolls were sweet. They were cold, and I prefer mine warm. They had raisons in them, which was ok. I'd call it - medium. The almond croissants were a bit overly sweet. They had a healthy amount of almonds on top, which was nice. They looked very pretty. The bacon and egg croissant was warm, which I appreciated. I think the ingredients were a bit weak compared to the croissant size. It tasted very much like a croissant with a hint of filler. I do love fried eggs and bacon in a croissant though, so it came out to medium for me. The coffee was pretty good. The downside for me, which is a bit unfair of me, is that it was served in a pretty ceramic mug, which had very small finger holes. I mean only a person with abnormally tiny hands would be able to put their finger through that ceramic ring. So I had to squeeze the ceramic ring with my finger to hold the mug. Or put my hand under the mug to hold it up. I wish the mug had been less pretty, and more functional. But the coffee tasted good. All around I'd say it was good. Fine. Totally a reasonable place to grab yourself a pastry and coffee, and enjoy a moderately fine and tasteful atmosphere. read more

I've had this spot bookmarked for a while so I couldn't pass up the chance to come here while on the way to work one morning. The inside is spacious and clean. Staff here are very friendly and there looked to be a fair amount of regulars when I was there. I was looking for something sweet, so they recommended a few different options with call outs for which were on the sweeter side versus those that were more subtle. I ended up going with the Wild Cherry Cream Cheese Strudel which is new and fairly popular apparently. This pastry was so flakey and buttery! I was planning on eating it slowly through the morning but every bite made me want to take another right away. We were staying at a hotel around the corner from this place and thought we would give it a try. The pastries are excellent. Nice selection of savory and sweet. These pastries are a good size for one person. We had the ham and provolone (warmed) and the marionberry and cream cheese danish. Some pastries can be dry or overbaked, but these were just right - buttery, flaky and full of flavor. Their coffees and chai lattes are great too. I saw this place on my way to Bellden (which was further from the transit center) so I decided to check this one out as it is a bit closer. Yessica was super kind, and though I took my sweet time snooping around the case of adorable pastries, she was extremely patient and greeted everyone with a smile. ~ Strawberry Vietnamese Coffee (7/10). The whole drink tasted strongly of milk, and rather than the coffee being flavored, the strawberry manages to overpower just from the sprinkles on top. The drink isn't too sweet and pleasant to drink if you're looking for something to warm you up on a cold day, but I'd consider this more of just a milk drink and the whipped cream overpowered the coffee itself, but the coffee does its job to balance out the sweetness. ~ Marionberry Cream Cheese Brioche (4/10). The brioche bun was really sticky and the glaze felt too difficult to pick up without it being really messy on my hands, so probably not a grab and go type of pastry. The inside was mediocre, and felt like it should have been fluffy to match with the heavy cream and jelly in the center, but in the end just ended up being too much overall and because of that felt like a danish I might pick up from a convenience store. The pastry really did just sit in my stomach for the next hour or so, which also soured my experience of it. For fair warning, the sweets case doesn't start to come out until closer to 9am, but the pastries are out much earlier. All in all, everything is super sized and all very aesthetic, but quality of food seems to be mediocre. The staff is kind and early in the morning, there isn't many people, so it's a good place to grab some comfort food and enjoy your own company. read more

There's a lot of construction in the area, street parking was not available when we stopped by, and the adjacent parking lot charges for parking with no grace period, so I paid a couple bucks for half an hour even tho we were there for maybe 10min. Inside there are several tables and some bar seating along the windows, and seems pleasant enough. Not a ton of pastries left in the case due to it being late in the day. We tried several croissant-style pastries that were really large but also priced accordingly; unfortunately the dough probably wasn't kept cold enough as the croissants were all more bready than flaky. The turkey + cheese had one slice of turkey rolled around a small piece of cheese that was on one side of the very large croissant, so it wasn't evenly distributed. The sausage croissant is cut-up pieces of hot dog (Asian-style). I felt like it was overpriced for what we got. read more

We discovered this bake shop today after trying to visit the French bakery across the street (the French bakery was closed). Royal Bakehouse was such a great find! As soon as we walked in, the staff were welcoming and helpful. Everything looked amazing - they have so many options from sweet and savory pastries, to crepes, to sandwiches and salads. The staff helped recommend items for us and here's what we landed on: I got the chorizo croissant and it was so flavorful. This was one of a couple savory options that didn't have cheese, which was a pleasant surprise. I also got the bear claw and it was amazing! The pastry was so flaky and fresh and it wasn't overly sweet. My husband got the apple Nutella turnover at the recommendation of the staff and it was a delight! He was also really excited to try the prosciutto (and feta?) pastry but when we got home, we found we had been given the ham and cheese instead. It was good but kind of a bummer since we were looking forward to the prosciutto. That mix up is the only thing that could have gone better. Everything else was great! By far the best bakery in Bellevue. I went there for the first time this Sunday and was blown away by the quality and value. Being involved in high-end bakery on an international level for over 30 years I know quality and excellent product when I see it and this is it. Everything is handmade which is almost unheard of. You have a selection of bakery products such as a multi-layered buttery croissant the French would be proud of, cream puffs, sandwiches, a delicious looking Raspberry Millefeuille, a wonderful tiramisu eclair, (which I had), etc, as well as a range coffees and teas.
