I went in to a get a few things this morning and the service behind the counter was absolutely horrible. The girls helping were very sarcastic and arrogant. They need better help. When you work in customer service thats not the way to speak and treat customers. Napkins were left on the counter by the cash register and the girl helping me looked to see if i left her a tip on my card after paying and then said sarcastically, thanks for leaving that there and grabbed it and threw it out yet that was not mine and that was already there from someone else. And then the person behind me online was skipped one or two times so she was looking for someone to help her and she asked one of the girls if she was available because she had been skipped and the girl answered her very sarcastically I'm busy helping somebody else and made a face. Very rude. Next time I'll get my things from somewhere else closer to me. read more

This bakery is a must for me. I abs love it here. Bakery wise so many options, just make sure you're ready to order cause they move fast in there. I've tried the chocolate bread and prosciutto sticks and bread. Sooo good! It's literally the best on Staten Island in my opinion. The berry tarts are my favorite--comes in a small or large size. Service is great as well. During summer/spring time weekends usually gets packed, however so worth it. Try the lemon ice..amaze balls. Very small inside, but when if it's nice out the outdoor area has a bit more space. Vodka pasta was delish and the steak Ceasar salad--my go too's! Excellent food. Hands down the best on the Island. BUT the service is severely lacking. The service is bad enough that I don't think I will be coming back because I feel so disrespected. An older waitress by the name of Josephine disparaged me and my young daughter because of the tip we left. She embarrassed us and told us "don't come back until we learn how to tip" I was under the assumption that a 20% tip is pretty generous. I am not the only one to complain about this waitress. Many of my friends and family have complained about her as well. It's a shame because we really love the food and the ambiance but all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch. read more

Definitely huge on portion size but it's perfect for a next meal for the next day * Calamari: you MUST get this, so good and always the best * Pasta: I've had many of their different pasta dishes and you could never go wrong. Not much else to say besides Royal Crown is top of the line. If there is one issue it is parking, the lot is small and street parking is scarce. Service is fantastic, lunch was terrific and the pastries/bread are world famous. The seafood salad was a wonderful surprise, pulpo, calamari, shrimp, olives, roasted peppers etc, excellent and well executed. The Broccoli rabe and sausage dish was plentiful and tasty while the chicken parmigiana vodka was fantastic. If you have the opportunity, I recommend visiting for lunch. read more

I went to buy a birthday cake today and the counter girl who served me walked away when I asked her for a bag to put the cake in. So, then I asked the other girl working next to her for a bag and instead of saying she will in a minute or handing it to me she instead says, "I'm with another customer" in a rude tone, so I took my cake and walked out. A friend of mine went there and she had ordered lunch to go, and it was raining so she asked if she could sit and eat her lunch there and they point blank to her no because she did not sit down and order her food. This bakery was a treat for us when we lived on Staten Island years ago. We stopped in for a quick breakfast and some items to go when we headed out back home after a short visit. The breakfast menu here is fairly simple. My wife went with a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll. I had the same except I opted for the prosciutto bagel. The bread items here are really good. My bagel was big and fluffy. I usually prefer it smaller with a crunchy crust but it was good none the less. We also got a sugared donut which I use to love back in the day. They are still really good and again an occasional treat. Since our drive back to NC was seven hours we got a sandwich to go. My wife chose this one, prosciutto, mozzarella, broccoli rabe, evoo, and balsamic vinegar. The sandwiches here are delicious. The ingredients are always fresh and again, the bread products are top notch. We also picked up a loaf of the everything bread (for Sunday) and some Italian cookies for our son, nephew and her mom and grandma back home. They traveled well and did not last the week. Definitely pay them a visit if you are on the Island. One note, parking near the restaurant / shop is difficult! The lot is very small and they are located on a major thoroughfare. read more

Lemon ice with ice tea =WOW... so good and refreshing. I had a hero with fried chicken, mozzarella, tomato and arugula. Such a generous portion I could have easily shared one. Instead I have lunch tomorrow. You must try the balsamic... so sweet and divine on a sandwich here. We shared the tiramisu... so smooth and the coffee flavor was spot on. I also sampled the pignoli cookies ... so delightful. The center had the chewy softness of marzipan and the outer piñon were generous and delicious. Ive been coming to Royal Crown Bakery for years and am a loyal fan. The cakes and pastries here are some of the best on Staten Island with their bread being next level. The display runs almost the entire length of the store with the kitchen and ovens visible. This place is a well oiled machine that never stops running. Everything is always supper fresh with stuff coming out all day long. My last visit I went with two different seven layer pastries. Both were delicious in their own way and fresh. Minorities prepare for some rude service when at the bakery section. I've been going to RC for years, mainly the restaurant side. I have always had a very pleasant experience when visiting, staff very friendly. Yesterday I went to order some cookies and a cake at the bakery section and was treated rudely by one of the girls behind the counter when making my order. When I gave my order of cookies she stopped, stared and me and said, "you know those cookies cost $$$?". She just stood there frozen waiting for an answer from me. I felt she expected me to run out of the store because I could not pay for them. I never asked her for the cost of the cookies and I'm sure she did not ask that of the numerous people on line in front of me or those behind me (all white). Unfortunately, I was with my daughter, so I did not want to make a scene and could not tell that rude young lady what I felt about her service. A friend of mind told me to try this place, so I did. I'm a Brooklyn born man that will always miss the Sunset Deli, may you rest in peace Mr. Lee, best sandwiches ever. I ordered a hero from this place and I can say it was good, but not amazing. They failed to follow the instructions of the condiments. When you make a hero you have to make it with love, if you don't put that seasoning in that sandwich it will always be ok and you'll never get a repeat customer. Looks like a very popular place here in Staten Island Came here to get the treasured pignoli nut cookies. The bakery where I live had delicious cookies, but because of the sky rocketing price if pignoli nuts, they stopped making them!!! So here I am before going to see friends in Pennsylvania. They've been my favorite calling card whenever I travel down there So I order 3 lbs. wow the price!!! $35 a pound!! I also get a loaf of their sourdough bread. Well after trying them, they just don't measure up to my old local bakery's cookies. Too many nuts, if you can believe that and the cookies are harder not soft. What's great and unique about Royal Crown is that they serve heros and other Italian specialties which are as good as the best pork stores in a a sit down table setup. I don't know of any other place that has done it this way and it's really great! Everything is nice from the perfect hot and cold heros to the completely classic macaroni salad, all great stuff! I've been a customer at their original location on 14th Ave in Brooklyn for years and have always loved their amazing breads, rainbow cookies, pignoli and the best lobster tails in NY! On Staten Island, it feels like there are more Italian delis than there are people and this one is arguably the best one (although it is way more than just a deli). For anyone unfamiliar with this place, Royal Crown is divided into two separate yet connected spaces. "Royal Crown" is the first door closest to the parking lot and they are primarily a bakery (where you can get breads, drinks, pastries, etc). "Royal Cucina" is the second door and they are more of a deli (you can order sandwiches, salads, pastas, etc). Both doors are connected and they also operate as a restaurant with ~7 tables indoors and another ~20 outdoors in a tented area. At Royal Crown, you can find some of the best Italian bread on the Island and for this reason, you will often find lines out the door especially during holidays. They also have amazing bagels, english muffins, prosciutto bread, chocolate bread, muffins, and cookies. Additionally, they have a large selection of cakes which they will customize for birthdays/holidays (people rave about their cheesecakes). Pro-tip: they have frozen lemonade/iced tea drinks in the summer and they are to-die-for. At Royal Cucina, you can get some of the best Italian sandwiches in all of NYC and the prices are unbeatable (most of their heroes are less than $15). Our favorites are the veal parm, chicken parm with vodka sauce, and their roast beef & swiss with fried onions. All of their sandwiches also come with a side of their homemade balsamic glaze which you can also buy bottled (so much better than what you'll find in the supermarket). We also love their caesar salad and their dressing is one of the best we have ever had. Additionally, they have a hot food bar that changes on a daily basis and all of the food is fresh and delicious (my favorite day to go is on Friday as they always have a ton of seafood options). Finally, their pastas are incredible and you can pick your type of pasta, sauce, and any toppings (please note it takes them 15-20 minutes to make so call ahead if you're in a rush. Also, the portions are HUGE). The people who work here are really great and fast. I think they sometimes come off as curt but they are just trying to keep the line moving. Heads up that if you are calling in an order at peak hours and they don't pick up, it's likely that they just put you on hold and they will get to you within a few minutes. In terms of parking which seems to be one of the biggest complaints here, I think people must not realize that there is an entire parking lot with 50+ spaces across the street (behind the Santander bank) that is specifically for Royal Crown/Cucina customers. There is also a tiny lot right next to the actual location with maybe 8 spots total so maybe people think that's the only parking? We never go into this lot as it is always a nightmare to get in and out of even if there is an open spot. read more
