First the good news: I happen to be craving Peking Duck, with all the trimmings and presentation.. Every part of it was authentic and delicious; like we used to get in flushing and Chinatown. It looked great also!! Now the not so good news. I actually felt uncomfortable eating there. Everyone seemed unfriendly, or cold at best. It was as if asking for another napkin or ice water annoyed them! I had to deduct 2 stars for that and I'll tell you why. We all know that restaurant prices shot up after Covid, and we understand, and willingly pay it.. The least you can do is make the diners feel welcomed. I won't lie; I would only go back because the Peking duck was SO good.. They might want to work on their people skills or not take the job if it is annoying to them.. Went back a couple times and it's still a solid place for Cantonese food and dim sum. Some of the dim sum items are a bit too sweet compared to most other dim sum places, for example, the egg yolk bun filling could be a little more savory to add a extra dimension, and the "Snow White bun" topping could be less sweet. But overall, the quality is good. I noticed when leaving that they are changing ownership starting Feb 1, 2026. Hope the place would still maintain its high quality after the transition. read more

The food here was very average, nothing really stood out. It wasn't horrible nor was it amazing. I'm comparing my experiences in other chinese restaurants primarily in Queens. I came here on halloween night this year which was a Friday. Arrived around 7pm and there was no wait. The staff wasn't all that welcoming and my friend said they looked a bit upset or annoyed when we were ordering. The food came out quick which was nice. The flavor was lacking. Royal Dim Sum is a much needed addition to Long Island! Good dim sum places are slim pickins on Long Island so I was beyond happy to hear that they opened! For LI, this is a 4 Star restaurant but probably 3-3.5 Stars if compared by the standards of Flushing, Queens. Why? For a few reasons. The variety of items were decent but they didn't seem to have more than two servings of the same item. Also, a few of the items weren't hot; more like room temperature. The flavors could have been bolder. One surprise find was their Ube Egg Custard Sesame Balls. These were really great (& different). They were minimally sweet. So apparently this has changed ownership and i believe chefs cause dishes were super salty and drenched with sauce. The peking pork chops were so sweet, your dentists will love you. Portions seemed smaller and alot tasted the same. We ordered a full fried chicken. It was small and hardly any garlic crisps. The dumplings were not bad, skin a little thick, soupy but little crab is visible. The rest of the dim sum was really good. Prices are to be expected and within range of what we normally pay. Not busy when we arrived around brunch time and seated right away. First time here recently. I found the service was attentive and they have an extensive menu! Everything was delicious. Only thing was their xiao long bao had thick skin/dough. Almost like a shen jian bao kind of dough. And they had them inside the bamboo steamers in little dan tat foil trays. Once never seen that before. Please keep in mind, I have had dimsum in Flushing and Woodside, with that being said, I came here with an open mind expecting it to be close which it was! I've been to other LI dimsum spots and I have to admit, it is delicious here. A bit saltier than what I am used to but let's get into it! Rice was extra sticky so harder than other places to get a clean pull from the wrapper - Bean Curd: this was actually well-soaked in the sauce and braised well but salty - Fried Bacon wrapped Shrimp: This was a show stopper. Came out piping out, a lot of shrimp juices and they were hUge - Crab and pork soup dumplings: wrapper was slightly thicker than other places and meat/pork filling was minimal (extremely overpriced for $15) The service was better than expected for a fast turnover Chinese restaurant. We asked for white rice and waited awhile only to see that our rice was given to a different table but there was a GM/manager there that kept a close eye on all the tables and ensured we got what we needed. Food was great but I do have to mention the prices were higher than typical dimsum. Typically, dishes would be $4 or so but this place started at $5 so, after dishes, drinks and the soup dumplings, our bill was $100 not including tip. I live in Suffolk County so it's a drive to get here but if in the area or up early, I would definitely come back. BLUF: Lovely atmosphere; friendly service; mostly bland food. Our recent first visit to Royal Dim Sum was disappointing given their many positive reviews. Much of the food and sauces we had were surprisingly bland. Dishes we had: - Osmanthus Jelly 桂花糕: $5.50. Barely any flavor. The version from Canton Manor has more ingredients and a good goji berry flavor. - Beef Rice Noodle Roll 牛粉: $6.50. Bland, watery, but slightly hard noodle rolls instead of soft and silky noodle rolls, and served with a surprising bland soy sauce. It's absurd that a Chinese restaurant messed up soy sauce. - Beef Short Ribs 牛仔骨: Flavorful but undercooked. We ended up taking this to go because it was too chewy to eat at the table, and recooked it at home. - Turnip Cake 蘿蔔糕: $5.50. Bland, hard, served to us with a watered-down hoisin sauce. - Pearl Shrimp Balls 珍珠蝦丸: $6.50. Shrimp balls covered in a bland glutinous rice. - Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp Balls 煙肉丸: This was probably the best of the dishes we tried. Good flavors, moist, and not excessively greasy. Atmosphere: Our dining booth was very comfortable, and the noise level of the dining room was moderate when we were there, around 65 to 70db. The men's and women's restrooms were well-maintained. They definitely get super busy on the weekends though, so you may have to wait if you come in the afternoon. It's pretty spacious inside but the tables get filled up quick. The service is also great - staff is nice and the food comes out quick. They serve dim sum all day long, which is rare for most dim sum restaurants. The options are a little more limited compared to the traditional dim sum restaurants in Flushing but they had the staples - chicken feet, shumai, hargow, and more. They even have some unique items like the purple sweet potato sesame balls with custard, lobster dumplings. I enjoyed all their dim sum items and believe me, I've tried pretty much every item on the menu. As for the Cantonese food, also solid. I had a great time here. We came here for lunch and there was a bit of a wait but we did not wait more than 15 minutes. There is a virtual waitlist that you put your name and number in and then they call your name when they are ready. The food was delicious and very flavorful. They only have 2 carts rolling around which was amazing because we got most of the things we like to eat all in one cart. The dimsum here was decent but nothing special. I did like the savory fried glutinous dumplings though. They added scallions or cilantro inside to give it a pop of flavor. However, my dad and I both agreed that the haw fun dishes here are made from frozen haw fun. You can tell by how much harder it is from fresh haw fun. Walking in, and sitting down after what was 30-40 minutes of waiting (just thought it was because of popularity) we were soon regretting our decision. For the first time in my life of eating Dim Sum as a kid up until now, did I leave my seat hungry and needing to find more food to fill my famished stomach. This Dim Sum place is located in the heart of Westbury and it is closed to shopping mall and stores. We came in for dinner, so only a few dim sum dishes were available during dinner hours. The skin for the steam shrimp was excellent, very thin and smooth. The other dishes were okay too, but the portion was relatively small compared to the price it charges. Food seems to be authentic Hong Kong style. Services were excellent as the waiters were very attentive and friendly. There were different sizes of table suitable for different party size. Can't say enough great things about this restaurant! We are lovers of authentic dim sum and this is the spot to try if you haven't! I recently had surgery so was relieved to see a ramp WITH railings on both sides to walk down into the dining room. There are also a few steps on the other side of entrance in case you have a fear of ramps. Once in the main area, it's super simple to add your name, number and party size to a kiosk. Once your table is ready, you'll get a text. We waited about 15 min on a Sunday late morning which was NOT bad at all compared to some places in Chinatown in the city. The dining room was pretty well sized and clean, while the ambiance was welcoming and super calm. The dim sum menu was huge with tons of variety. We are non pork eaters, so lots of beef and shrimp options for us. Even the sweet buns were plentiful and delicious. And if dim sum isn't your thing, they have an a la carte menu as well. But ordering from the carts that come around is such a fun experience. Everything we tried was chefs kiss. We even went with a friend who never tried dim sum and they fell in love! Happy to see Asian cuisine expanding on Long Island, the menu of this place is not the biggest, but it does have a lot of the standard dim sum options such as shumai, rice rolls and chicken feet. The price ranges from (S)$5.50 (M)$6.50 (L)$7.50 (T) 8.50 for the choices of dim sum. Be aware that a lot of the menu is not available after 3pm so make sure you come earlier if you want to try the full menu. The food quality I would say is mostly average for the dim sum part because some of the items tasted warm and not as fresh. For example we got the "taro puff w pork" and the exterior was not crispy like it is supposed to taste. The made to order dishes on the other hand I really enjoyed. For example, the "pan fried noodles" had great texture and flavor. Overall if you not looking to drive all the way into Flushing Queens or Chinatown, this place is a nice alternative to fill your dim sum cravings. They have only two rolling carts circling around that sell the same things so you pretty much have to order most items off of the paper anyways. Everything we ordered was pretty good, especially the baked goods like cha siu puff and egg tarts. Service was a little on the slow side as we had to wait for most of our dishes one by one. Many of the baos weren't that filled and the beef was very tough. We also waited a long time for many of the things that we ordered only for them to tell us that they were sold out. The service was quite slow and slightly disorganized as we had a few people check in on the same thing or something would arrive at the table after we were told it was sold out.
