So I have been going to Rubicon for the past few years and always order the Rubicon Special. I have raved about it to friends and family...However, over the past few months, it seems that the quality is deteriorating. There is more and more bread and less and less meat. Today my sandwich was actually partially burnt and it looked like they tried to cover it up by soaking it in sauce...plus, the distracted woman behind the counter was on a personal phone call while I waited with a line out the door behind me. She then grabbed my sandwich which resulted in her smashing the cookie on top of it. The icing on the cake was her overcharging me for the sandwich then admitting that she can't count the number of times she has done this...guess it's time to rave about a new deli :-( read more

I still love this place, in spite of the owners somewhat short/cold demeanor. I recently began cutting meat from my diet and stumbled upon their Veggie sandwich as a result. I wish I could review the food on this visit, but instead I have to say that one should avoid visiting Rubicon in the summer and anytime near the lunch hour (which is the only hours they are open). After waiting in line for 10 min, I left four 3 reasons: 1. I could not justify spending that much money on a sandwich that I remember being just ok last time. (I live about 3 blocks away but I have not been back in a year and wanted to give it another try). I am sorry but all the sandwiches are $7.99 and that is a lot for lunch. Once you add a drink and chips, you could have been seated, served and in air conditioning for that price. 2. It was 95 degrees outside and probably 100 degrees inside and I could not take another second. 3. In the time I was waiting to order, not one order came out. There were 5 groups standing around waiting for their sandwiches and 3 people had just ordered in front of me, I was starving and could not handle waiting for 6 groups to be served in that heat. Especially if it takes 10 min for at least one sandwich to come out. I really wanted to give it another go but with all those odds, I opted to go home and make myself a sandwich. read more

I have been there once, and there sandwiches were excellent. However, going a second time the lady at the register was one of the most rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life. On top of that she couldn't even get my boyfriend name right on the order when she not even a foot away and could hear him loud and clearly. I would suggest maybe hiring someone at the register who is customer friendly and not someone who if is in a bad mood takes it out on the customers. Show's bad business! read more

There are many words that come to mind when thinking about the food at the Rubicon deli but the one that stands out the most is, orgasmic! The flavor profiles of the sandwiches are on point. It's like an orgy of flavors in your mouth! The bread is made fresh and the perfect texture. Crunchy where is needs to be and soft where is needs to be. I'm also a big fan of their Thai peanut noodles as a side, they're served cold and a nice compliment to any of the sandwiches. The sandwiches always taste good but for the price they should have more meat, cheese, etc. in them. I'd guess I got maybe 2 ounces of turkey in an $8 sandwich. Will I buy another one? I have read some of the reviews on here regarding the proprietor of this establishment and her attitude towards her customers. I have dined here on 2 occasions and I must say that I think she is just misunderstood. First off, she isn't mean or rude, she just happens to be a little eccentric. Most geniuses are. Yes the food is really good, but $12 for a small spicy tuna salad (the salad version of the sandwich) is ridiculous. It was mostly lettuce with two small scoops of tuna and some garnish. Stick with the sandwiches, they are pricey too but at least they are substantial and can feed two. read more

A solid deli offering an array of sandwiches, salads and soups. Great options for bread, fillings, and mustards. Had a half of the spicy tuna--which was ample, and a nice take on a tuna sandwich. I have been going to Rubicon Deli FOREVER. I liked the place more when they were in Tahoe, well because...they were in Tahoe! In high school we would call in our order and go get our HUGE sandwiches for lunch and head down to the beach to eat them. Stopped by the other day at their new location in Reno and remembered why I loved the place so much! I love everyone that works there and I can never get enough of their sandwiches on their blue cheese bread with cranberry mustard....mmmm....doesn't get any better than this! Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Its different than whats normally offered in this area, and i think people want to make it out better than what the reviews are saying. Owner/manager lady is a little aloof and distracted...so much so that i ordered a half and she charged me and served me a full size which can feed a small tribe. Apparently believes that all people like leftovers or to take home a hot sandwich, and offered to "wrap it up" instead of actually correcting her mistake and serving me/charging me for a half. Very delicious sandwiches. I love the Rubicon Special, the Hot Meatball, and the Grilled Cheese Delux! They are definitely on the pricier end of specialty sandwich shops -- expect $9-12 for a standard sandwich. I was less than thrilled with their Chicken and Wild Rice soup. Rubicon is a great place for lunch. Out of the delis in downtown Reno, this is by far my favorite. Last summer, when my fiance worked downtown, we went to Rubicon at least once a week for lunch. My favorite is the Rubicon Special on Jalapeno Jack bread, Garlic Cheese, or Pesto bread. A half is definitely enough food. Order a whole sandwich if you plan on splitting your sandwich. During lunch, they are very busy so make sure you plan for that and phone in if you don't have a lot of time. They also serve open face sandwiches, shell sandwiches (where they put all of your food in the shell of the bread and have the bread scooped out), salads, and soups. So far, nothing is bad here! Definitely a don't miss if you are anywhere near downtown Reno for lunch! read more

We were in Reno for the weekend a couple years ago and then again a week ago and both times we ate at the Rubicon Deli. Sandwiches are very good and the ingredients are fresh. It is a little pricey but the sandwiches are very large and we think it is worth it. We got two Hogs Breath Sandwiches....one with Blue Cheese Bread and the other with Garlic Cheese. By far my favorite sandwich place in reno. I have tried almost everything on the menu and I have never been disappointed. Their bread is absolutely amazing. Just an excellent deli. Probably the best one I've ever visited. Their salads and sandwiches are incredible, especially the Cowboy salad. I could eat that one every day. The lady who manages the deli is exceptional. She always caters my lunches with my best interest in mind, even when it means lower revenue for her. I wish I could clone her and the deli and bring them to Denver, they are that good. As a business traveler, this deli is definitely one of the main attractions for me when I visit Reno. Brought my family here from out of town (Hobart, IN-next to Chicago) for a late lunch. Neither myself or my husband had been here, but we both had heard good things from friends and co-workers. So we came by after a day of walking by the river to grab a sandwich. My mom and dad had the pastrami sandwich. They split this sandwich and holy heck that was a lot of food. My step dad is a butcher by trade, guy who lugged around 1/2 cow back in the sixties over his shoulder that kinda butcher. Said it was some of the best pastrami and the bread was perfectly crunchy-Dutch crunchy. He and my mom split an old fashion coke, but no chips, my mom just wanted a bag of lays. Fancy she's not about chips. My husband and I split a dapper on Dutch crunch again holy heck. The roast beast was tender and the Dutch crunch soft but Dutch crunchy. Loved the haystack onions and the au jus to die for. Loved the little pickles, my husband did. Everyone loved the little cookies. Soda was off the hook and for the personality of the shop. The food is awesome, good atmosphere, 3/5 stars though---the owner can thank me for that. She has the most sour attitude every time I grab a bite. I went in for lunch the other day with a colleague from out of town. I commented on the new decor and what appeared to be new menu options. The owner looked at me with no smile, no thank you, it was the most awkward 5 minutes of my life. I've recommended several of my clients to Rubicon Deli, all of which have commented on the uncomfortably, rude service. Tiny place, 21 bucks for two sandwiches bag of chips and one drink. Bread was good which was 80% of sand. Woman who took our order was not pleasant and says to us"what do want". Sandwhich was just ordinary, small amount of meat and cheese and veggies. No one there seemed happy even customers, strange crowd. I will not be back. read more

Great portion size for the sandwich but you definitely pay for it. I waited 20 minutes just to get to order, then once I began to order I was informed they where out of the two( clearly most popular) bread types. I also ordered a small house salad that was really nothing but cucumbers and some tomatoes. I can honestly say it was the most disappointing $5 salad I ever received. It was literally about 4 bites and had close to no veggies. The Sandwich was ok, dry and the dutch crunch bread cut my mouth.
