I have to say that I was a little worried about coming to Rubicon. After reading reviews about the so called "rude" lady at the counter, I thought I was about to encounter someone similar to Seinfeld's soup nazi. I was glad to see the lady there...and I am even happier to say that I had absolutely no problems with here. I think her intensity is mistaken for being rude. Just watching her run the line and the back...she was not going to put up with any flaws in her business. I really appreciate that. The sandwiches were definitely the star here. Holy shmoles...I keep thinking about that gluten free focaccia bread. I don't have any gluten allergies but the taste and texture really worked well with the sandwiches. I've also tried the blue cheese bread...oh, and the garlic bread. Everything was just perfect and delicious. We've been here twice now and we've tried: spicy tuna, the godmother, rich boy, and the rubicon special. I freakin loved all of them. I also tend to watch my carbs so I've been ordering my sandwiches scooped. This is where they take out the meat of the bread. I really love that they even have this option. What an amazing little deli this is. Another quarantine discovery I will be happy to come back and visit after this is lifted. My hubby and I called in for curbside pick up and the inside was very well laid out with tape to show where to stand for social distancing. Masks are preferred if you come in to pick up food but not required. The flavors in these sandwiches are above and beyond your normal sandwich and I love it! The bonus mini cookie was sooooo yummy! I don't know how I haven't written a review of this Deli sooner?! Rubicon is my favorite deli in Reno. The boyfriend and I always order the Dapper Dipper on Dutch Crunch, sans the fixings. Just the roll meat and au jus with a cup of their tomato basil bisque for me. I have been going to this deli since I moved to Reno, over a year now. I ordered a salad that is about $12, and with tax and card fees my total came out to about $14 and some change. I left a $1 tip so my total should have been about $15 and some change. Upon checking bank statements I saw I was charge $17 and some change, which means that my tip was adjusted. Pretty irritated, I've never been to business that charges you more on your card after a receipt has been given. I am disappointed as I come here regularly for lunch and this has never happened. Had to spend the day at a meeting offsite from work and my boss suggested this place for lunch. On California With the worlds tiniest sign, it's easy to miss if you have never been here before. We had to park 2 blocks away but the walk was nice. The inside is as tiny as the sign, with maybe 3 tables and a small bar type seating near the window. When the weather is nice, the also have outdoor seating. As I have been keto for the past 3 months, I ordered a salad. The Rubbicobb. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was so yummy. I added an extra side of dressing and removed the avocado. It was supposed to come with egg slices which were missing but I didn't really notice because I was busy fully enjoying the giant chunks of blue cheese and bacon crumbles. The dressing was a ranch dressing but it had a bit of a dill taste to it which was surprisingly good. The others at my table both ordered sandwiches which were huge. And I mean HUGE. Unfortunately my picture game has been weak so I missed that opportunity but when I return I will be sure to take some. I can't wait to bring my husband here as he will love it as well. Went in today for the first time. It was 2:52. They had a sign on the door that they closed at 3. I apologized for coming in so near to closing, the hours online did not reflect the change. The elderly lady at the register was SO RUDE, and said I couldn't sit inside for a few minutes to have my sandwich and that I needed to be gone by 3. I understand that they modified their hours, but that lady really needs to work on her tone and her approach towards new customers. The sandwich tasted ok, but was overpriced. Im sad to say that I had never, in all my days as a Reno-ite, been to Rubicon Deli until recently. My initial opinion walking in was that it would be just another sandwich shop but I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff members are so friendly and fast! I can't believe they remember so many visitors and their favorite orders. It's down right impressive. The have both hot and cold sandwiches as well as some fruit options and daily soups and sides. A half sandwich is more than enough for lunch but I do hope to someday attempt to eat a whole one. They have a variety of flavored breads like pesto and jalepeno as well as some truly inspired sandwich styles. The Dapper Dipper and the Don(m?) Pastrami are two of my favorites. Great sandwiches, I usually get the chipotle chicken as it's quite tasty and also add the hot peppers. They have plenty of other sandwiches and can build your own too. A bit pricey for a sandwich as it comes to about 15$ but the size is enough to feed two depending on your hunger. Highly recommend to try if you haven't been. Parking is a issue however as the neighboring building is quite strict. Be aware of signs. It is a bit hard to find as well but note It's right behind St. James infirmary. read more

Right when you walk in this small quaint little place you are greeted by the sweetest lady who will take your order. Pretty much every time I go, I get the spicy tuna sandwich (half) because the whole is huge and you have to be pretty dang hungry to eat it all! If you are getting lunch during business hours I suggest calling your order in ahead! I stopped in last week around 1pm and every table inside and outside was full! It is definitely the warmer weather bringing everyone out in Reno. I waited in a small line, placed my to-go order, and went to grab a stool out of the way. It had been awhile since I've been in here and the menu on the wall isn't everything they have to offer. Be sure to pick up one of the flyers they have which denotes the entire menu. It bugged me a bit that all of the options weren't openly displayed on the wall. My order today was half of a Hogs Breath sandwich minus the avocado, onion, and mustard. Be prepared: The sandwiches are BIG and I cannot imagine a time where I could actually finish more than just the half. Today I ate half of my half and saved the other portion for leftovers. If you are getting the sandwich to go it arrives neatly wrapped up in brown paper with a cookie on top. I thought that was a nice touch, however the cookie was hard and pretty much inedible. The sandwich was thankfully much better. I got it on a Dutch Crunch bread. It added a nice crisp texture to my sandwich. The combination of meats and condiments made for a perfect lunch. I really enjoyed the chipotle mayo since it added a little heat and a lot of flavor without being overly spicy. The cashier was upbeat, polite, and chatty (in a good way). I really enjoyed the limited interaction I had with her which left a smile on my face. The guy who brought out my food was also very nice. Oohhh how I love a "hidden hot spot!" I think the little Rubicon Deli, tucked away behind the St. James Infirmary, totally qualifies as a bonafide HHS. I've been here several times now, and all the sammies I've tried have been fantastic. The ambiance of the place is wonderful, and the decor is gorgeous. Even though it's small, there is both indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of room to wait while your sandwich is being made. The Spicy Tuna was surprisingly great; who knew regular old tuna could transcend the norm and become something so special! I loved the light kick from the Habanero Mustard. I couldn't think of what kind of bread to choose so the waitress made a suggestion of Garlic Cheese. It sounded great! But then she apologized... they were out! So I asked for Jalapeno Jack... they were out! Bleu Cheese? Whoops, out. That's when I discovered they run out of certain popular breads by early afternoon, so be sure to go early if you have a particular bread you really want for your sandwich. Other great sammies: The Hot Meatball, The Godmother, The Dom Pastram, and the Rubicon Special. Most sandwiches are around $6 for a half, $9 for a whole, but trust me, they're really worth it. So why not 5 stars? Because I have to agree with other yelpers who say sometimes the staff could use an attitude adjustment. But I will always continue to put up with the occasional bad service for those great sammies, that's how good they are. Fresh quality ingredients on house baked bread. about $6 for a half sandwich or $8 for a whole. (they are enormous!) Create your own from a list of breads/meats/cheeses/spreads/lettuces/etc or try one of their specials. I had a half size Turkey with smoked gouda, roasted red peppers, and pesto on blue cheese bread with tomato soup. I was only able to eat half of the half size sandwich and half of the soup. So for $8 I got lunch and dinner! The sandwich was tasty, liked the bread being freshly baked but I thought it was kind of too fluffy/big. My partner had the "Achin for Bacon" which was basically a club sandwich on their baked white roll, and there was definitely too much bread to filling ratio there. On my visit they also tucked a small chocolate chip cookie into the sandwich paper. a nice treat. The soup was flavorful, with nice italian herbs, and a hearty almost creamy texture without being heavy. I found it a tad bit too salty though. They offer canned sodas and a nice variety of bottled juices and teas. (some great asian green and peach flavored tea!). Service is fine. They have a fountain for ice water/ice and they offer a separate bin for recycling. They could use a few more tables inside (they have one two top and then a row of barstools along the wall). You can find this Rubicon Deli tucked away behind a bar on California Avenue in the Downtown Reno area. There is definitely some consistency from the San Diego deli to the Reno deli. Similar menu and and high quality of food. I typically get the Rubicon Special, smoked turkey some cheese, lettuce and pesto mayo. I like to add spicy mustard and bell peppers (if they have them available that day) to top off an already great sandwich choice. Oh I can't forget, you need to get it with Dutch Crunch bread they bake on the daily! This location is pretty crowded on a weekday lunch and if you are in a hurry a pre-ordered sandwich to go makes the trip even quicker! 5 STARS!!! read more

I am giving one star because I can't give ZERO due to the customer service I received from who I believe is the owner a sour old woman. I was a loyal customer for years and after the way my partner and I were treated today my family and friends will no longer support this business. I forgot my mask today and had my face covered and she yelled at me to go get a mask after she had just served a lovely couple that was dining out front with NO MASKS on who told me not to stress they had just been served without masks. Very unprofessional, terrible, uncaring customer service. We got lunch to go here today and it was perfect. The bread is so fresh, we got the garlic one. It was super crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside. The portions are giant! We got an açaí bowl, which is my all time favorite menu item. The toppings are super fresh and flavorful. My wife got the tomato soup and she's said it's the best she's ever had. I love the food at the Rubicon Deli. The food is delicious. Everything they makes is the tastiest. Seriously, if you want some good salad/sandwich in midtown, this is the place. My favorite is the spicy tuna, I get it "naked" so it's a gigantic salad. My husband is obsessed with a massive grilled cheese thing with warm avocado. It's amazing and I usually hate grilled cheese. The few things that keep me holding back from a perfect review. 1) Parking, it can be kind of tricky depending on what time of day you are going. If you can park street side on the North side of California Ave, you are in luck. If not, you have to park a couple of blocks away and there is no crosswalk--keep your head on a swivel! 2) Small amount of table/chairs. If you have a group larger than 3, or 5 other parties are dining, you may be SOL. Limited dining space. 3) Time. It takes a good amount of time for them to whip up your delicious meal. I swear it's worth the wait, but due to con #2 mentioned above-waiting can get a little crowded inside. I recommend you call ahead. 4) Be prepared to pay big. Two large sandwiches and 1 fountain drink will run you almost $30. Pretty pricey for a informal lunch spot for my budget. 5) The counter lady. Her mood can be pretty variable. Somedays she is sweet as sugar, other days she's pretty neutral, and some days I really have a hard time understanding why she is the "face" of the company as her greeting skills could be improved. On several occasions I have felt like she is ungrateful and possibly bothered by me patronizing the deli. That's not good. Again, I do want to clarify--it's not always bad. I have had really nice and positive interactions with her on some days, including my most recent visit. Constructive feedback I'd like to provide would just be to work on that. Make customers feel welcome and appreciated. Please don't get held up on the reasons I bumped 5 starts to 4 because it's worth a try. I promise the food is perfect.
