We went back to our favorite spot again this past weekend and had the best time! We put our name on the waitlist around 5:30 and were seated right at 7pm which was perfect timing! Pizza is AMAZING. Really, you could stop reading what I wrote, right there. I will fully admit that Rubirosa was my "backup" option - I had intended to walk into Torrisi around 9PM and was quickly told that would not happen and I likely wouldn't be eating until 10PM. I was a little afraid that the same thing would happen to me at Rubirosa, but they had space for a one seater at the bar! Lucky me, I came to NYC right during a historical heat wave so I was parched. I got myself a spritz and a water then perused the legendary menu. As a single diner, I knew I couldn't really eat that much (plus the heat makes it hard to eat as much). But I knew I had to get that famous tie-dye pizza that everyone raved about. I got a small and added some meat toppings (pepperoni and sausage) and was drooling in anticipation of my pizza arriving. I kept watching others get their pizza and I got a bit anxious, but finally, my pizza arrived! They did forget the pesto sauce which I inquired about but they quickly fixed that. Then it was time to dig in. And man, this pizza was GOOD. Probably one of the best pizzas I've had. It was just so perfect. The tomato sauce was rich and deep. The crust was crispy. My only complaint is that some of my toppings/pizza would fall off when I grabbed it, but that's likely because it came out piping out and I just wasn't ready to wait longer before digging into it. And shoo'ed us away. At this point, my daughter was so excited to go to Rubirosa for pizza, she started crying. We were all so upset. For another reservation, I had to stand in line again. After 15 minutes of waiting, I walked up to the manager, my daughter still crying, kindly asked for a reservation for the next day. It took every ounce of me not to cuss him out. This was ABSURD. SO we got a lunch reservation for the next day. But here's the kicker!!!! They use a text messaging system to let you know of your reservation. And guess what? I was in NYC earlier this month, and I was looking for any recommendations in any given neighborhood. I met two locals who told me that Rubirosa had to be on the list if I was looking for pizza. I can finally take this restaurant off of my bucket list of places to eat at in NYC. I'm a resident of NYC and I never ate here before bc of the long line and couldn't get reservations. My friend who lives in the area has never eaten here too. I must admit it is very touristy. I came by myself as I was in the vicinity and it was early enough so they asked if I wanted a table for one or to sit at the bar. I of course opted for the table as I had a large shopping bag with me. The place isn't that large and only one bathroom for everyone which is a bit ridiculous. I'm not sure why there is such a hype for their pizza. I asked the server if I can get a slice or two instead of ordering the entire pie. She said to me, that there are other pizzerias nearby that serve slices which I can go to instead if I'd like. I didn't like the snarky remark or attitude when there could've been a nicer way of saying it or a simple yes or no would've been great too. Now i know! But had an opportunity to go eat lunch with my boy on a weekday and those reservations were readily available! We went to Rubirosa with a group of eight--seven adults and one infant--for a little family reunion. Since they offer group dining for parties of 8-22, we made a reservation and opted for the family-style lunch. I believe larger parties are seated in the back, though I'm not certain since this was my first time dining there. My husband and his sisters had recommended it as a great spot to reconnect with his cousins, so we were excited to try it out. First thing to note: the place is tiny. The front area is especially cramped, with people constantly shuffling in and out. If you're someone who gets claustrophobic or just appreciates a bit of breathing room, it can be a bit overwhelming. It was especially loud in the front, so I wouldn't recommend it for a first date or any occasion where you want to have a relaxed conversation. Granted, we went on a Sunday afternoon--it might be more mellow on a weeknight. I also wouldn't recommend bringing a baby here unless they're a bit older. Mostly due to the noise level, and proximity to other diners, your little one might get overstimulated or catch a virus from the amount of people packed inside. Also, if you don't have a compact folding travel stroller, don't bother bringing it. We brought our Nuna TRVL LX and we were able to tuck it in near his high chair but I'd probably skip it next time. You have to fold the stroller before bringing it inside and with how tight the space is, lugging that all the way to the back is a pain. Parking in the area is as you would expect: tough. We went on a Sunday, which helped slightly with street parking availability, but we still had to park several blocks away, closer to Broadway. Don't expect to find anything close by. If you're not coming by car then it's a breeze. Now, on to the food which was the highlight. We went with the prix fixe menu, and it was honestly a lot for our group, but in the best way. We started with meatballs, mozzarella sticks, and garlic knots. The garlic knots were incredible--fresh, fluffy, and packed with flavor. I genuinely haven't had a garlic knot that good in years. The mozzarella sticks were thick, had a great cheesy pull with every bite. The meatballs were tender enough for us to share with our baby, but both my husband and I found them a little dry in the center and lacking seasoning. The pasta course was rigatoni, cooked al dente with a fresh, flavorful sauce. Then came the pizzas: we had the Tie-Dye, which features vodka sauce, tomato sauce, pesto, and fresh mozzarella, and the Supreme, with tomato sauce, mozzarella, mini pepperoni, and mini meatballs. The Tie-Dye was creamy and clearly one of their signature pies, while the Supreme was heartier and more filling. Both were served with thin crusts, pre-sliced into narrow strips that made them easy to eat and share. For dessert, we had zeppoles. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and a perfect sweet ending to the meal. Honestly, most of us were already full after the appetizers and pasta, but we powered through and it was worth it. We loved our servers. They interacted with our baby naturally, and were genuinely kind and mad chill to converse with. The service was quick too. They brought everything out with minimal wait between courses, and they paid attention to our table, and cleared plates quickly and quietly, and double checked if anybody wanted refills for drinks. Service was attentive without being overbearing which was excellent. They also pack up your leftovers for you instead of just handing you the boxes to do it yourself which I really appreciate. Also one other thing to note that is relative to my complaint of the restaurant being small is that there's only ONE bathroom to accommodate the entire restaurant. This means there's constantly a line of people waiting to use the restroom. This is a big pet peeve for some people like myself. I didn't have to use it but I already know that places with only one bathroom means it probably gets funky in there and fast. This could be helped if a staff member refreshed the restroom every now and again but I doubt that's something they practice. My complaints are not easily remedied but they're my observations and dislikes. Some people might not care about the single bathroom or how crowded a restaurant gets. Some might say that's the charm of the city. New York is notorious for its lack of space and abundance of people but as a Native NYer, it's getting tiresome and I'm beginning to prefer more spacious and calm dining experiences. Still, the food here is fantastic, the vibe is energetic, and I would absolutely come back. If you love Italian food and thin-crust pizza, Rubirosa is absolutely worth a visit. read more

Since moving to Florida three years ago, one of the few things I miss about NYC is the pizza and old school Italian-American cuisine. While visiting NYC I was jonesing for chicken parm and meatballs, and Rubirosa delivered above and beyond. We did not have a reservation but the friendly hostess took my name and said it would be a 35 minute wait. In less than 25 minutes they found us a spot at the bar, where we had ringside seats to engage with the expert mixologists as they prepped our tasty cocktails. We started with the meatballs, which were three perfectly balanced and light orbs of tastiness floating in a sea of hearty and robust sauce. They were excellent and were deleted too fast to photograph. For out main we split an order of chicken parm and pasta carbonara. The chicken parm was exactly as I wished: a tender and flavorful cutlet encased in a perfectly seasoned coat of breading that was nicely seasoned. The sauce was a tangy marinara and it covered the perfect cap of melted cheese. It was so tender I never once needed my knife, simply cutting off pieces with the side of the fork. It was served alongside a portion of al dente spaghetti in the same marinara. The carbonara was again perfectly executed and cooked al dented. Delicious! Our neighbors ordered pizza which looked fantastic: thin enough to shave with and no flop. Next time I will definitely give it a try. Service was friendly, efficient, and professional. The eggplant parm tastes like chicken burn found the noodles/sauce a little too al dente and acidic for my taste. The line is usually out the door so I would say a reservation is almost always needed. The place is quite big inside and has a nice ambiance. Service is also good here. The prices are also fairly reasonable for the food. The garlic knots here are probably the best garlic knots I've ever had. So fluffy and also cooked well with good cheese and garlic on top. The sauce is also so yummy, it's a slightly spicy tomato sauce that goes so well with the knots. The tie dye pizza is the most popular pizza here and it's really good and also so aesthetic. I've been meaning to try rubirosa for YEARS and we finally got a reservation for 4 right when they opened on a Sunday. Last minute, 2 in our group dropped out but they were still able to seat us at a communal table. We just ordered the tie dye pizza that they're known for and the garlic knots. The tie-dye pizza seems popular here, and it was ok but mostly sauce. I think I'd prefer if there were some sort of meat with it since it felt a little plain. I didn't really enjoy the honey pie pizza, which was too salty. For thin-crust pizza, I much prefer L'Industrie. read more

The Tye Dye pizza here is one of the best in the city!! The thinness, the ingredients, the flavor...everything was a 10/10. We also got the baked clams (nothing special), the Bianca pizza and the honey pie. The other pizzas were good too, but trust me when I say you can't pass on ordering the tye dye. Service was excepcional! Very attentive and friendly. It gives you the feeling of eating a homie meal. They only had one bathroom so we had to wait a long line just to wash our hands. I will recommend making reservations but they also accept walk-ins. read more
