The food was delicious but the wait was 30 minutes plus for one pizza so idk if I'd recommend there's so many good pizza places plus reservations are hard to get and they sat us right next to the kitchen I was sweating by the time we left. Also our waiter placed the wrong pizza so we had to wait another 25 min and then he had the audacity to tell us our table was reserved soon for other guests like?? It's kind of your fault we've been here so long we only ordered two things

Rubirosa has the look of an old-school Italian-American restaurant. It's beautiful, both inside and outside. An old wooden floor in a converted rowhome. Everything makes it look classic but well thought out. It's a very comfortable dining room to sit in. The service, well, that is just as good as the restaurant looks. Very casual, but they are on their game. Never once did we wait for anything. The food, though, that of course is the star of this restaurant. I absolutely love red sauce, Italian-American food (most of the time). Unfortunately, I find very often that it's mediocre and for some reason, these mediocre restaurants have huge followings. Just because something has been made a certain way for decades doesn't make it good. Especially by today's standards. So often, I find the food in many restaurants to be oversauced with a flavorless red sauce. "Just a pinch of salt is all these great tomatoes need, and that's how we've done it since the 30's.". How many times have you heard that, taken a bite, and felt amazed they made it until the 40's? Food needs to be seasoned properly. We don't need to get into scientific facts, but it's been well documented. If you don't season it, you don't get the full flavor of what you're eating. It's as simple as that. Rubirosa gets this, and for the most part, the food was seasoned perfectly! We ordered the Meatballs made with pork, beef, and veal. The Mozzarella Sticks with spicy tomato sauce. The Mushroom Campanelle with wild mushrooms, garlic, and cream. And finally a large Pizza, split with half being the Tye Dye pizza and the other half the Rubirosa Supreme. The meatballs were phenomenal, little pillows of beautifully cooked meat in just enough sauce to give them some added umph. The pasta, too, was so good, the mushrooms seared perfectly so they were firm and almost meaty, with garlic cream sauce being a great compliment as it clung to every piece of campanelle. The pizza, my goodness, I've had some of the best pizza in the country, and this one should be ranked right up there. The Tye Dye pizza was our favorite, the simple flavors of cheese and tomato sauce with the pesto swirl cutting through. The Rubirosa Supreme was great too; everything on it was good, but sometimes simplicity ranks supreme. The mozzarella sticks left a lot to be desired; the cheese was nearly flavorless, and the tomato sauce wasn't spicy and lacked flavor as well. But, when most of the meal was as good as it was, it deserves a high rating. This place is great, and I am counting the days until we return. Until then, I will continue to avoid the typically Italian-American flavorless food that plagues this nation. Add some seasoning, give the food some flavor, and in return, your life will be more exciting.

Looong wait! Make reservations if you can or sit at the bar. Small restaurant- all indoor seating. They do offer takeout. Service was good. They don't offer chicken pizza. Can only order the chicken on the side and add to your pizza. Not a lot of meat pizza toppings that are non pork. Pizza was tasty and flavorful. Again, good music piped through these NYC restaurants. Makes great iced coffee and has a full bar.

Talk about getting an authentic NYC experience. This was a tough reservation to get. I snagged an 8:15 reservation as that was the only one available despite logging on right when it opened. Like I said, tough reservation. We were seated about 8:25-8:30 which I get but was a little annoying. This place is packed full of tables when there really isn't room for them. The tables are tiny. We were squeezed up against two walls. I'm not sure this would have worked for some people. Just a heads up on that. Also, only one bathroom which had a line 90% of the time we were there so plan accordingly. We started with the arancini. It's hard to not make a good one. This was solid. Nice fry and good amount of filling made for a great start. We (4 of us) ordered 2 large pizzas. They are huge. They were hanging over the table which was ridiculous but oh well. The first was half of the meatball/pepperoni one and half sausage. The other was half arugula salad one and half tye die. We did ask for the tye die to have pepperonis which the waiter acknowledged but shocking it did not have pepperoni. That was sarcastic because he was not writing down the order. Not a deal breaker but still not good. These pizzas are thin. It's also different than the slices you're getting around the city. It's just a different crust/cook. Not a bad thing. Just worth pointing out. My favorite was the famous tye die pizza. It just works. Shockingly well. I really enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. This one is not hype; it's real. My next favorite would be the sausage. Healthy portion of flavorful sausage made this a very good slice. And my least favorite, but one I still very much enjoyed, is the pepperoni meatball. The garlic was a bit much and I didn't love the meatball. Still, a very good pizza I would most definitely eat again. I fully understand the rave reviews of Rubirosa. Not the best interior or the easiest dining experience, but the food makes up for that.

Managed to finally make it happen! Surprisingly with no reservation, and a group of 7...we were able to make it happen. Was it a 2 hour wait? Yes, but we were able to leave our number with them and go about our way. Final wait time was about an hour and a half. It was a late/odd time for my family so some of us did go into it with food in our stomachs but we made it work, and it was totally worth it. I can't say that it's the most friendliest for large groups but we had a group of 7 (one child) and we sat fairly comfortable. The inside has such a lively ambience it's quite fun if you feed into it. As for the food. This visit we didn't get to try as much as I would've loved to but we did manage to get their tie dye pizza, as well as the Bianca and Honey pie. First and foremost....if you love a thin...crispy bottomed pizza...you're in good hands here. Their tomato red sauce/vodka sauce is incredible as well. Was something the table talked about a lot. And the white Bianca..this ones for the garlic and ricotta lovers. If thats you, you'll be sure to love. We also went with the calamari as a starter which was also very good. There was a famous line we heard constantly waiting around and while sat...returning patrons telling their first timer guests...theres a reason its been like this for 20 plus years...And I get it. There's something nice about enjoying a very good New York slice of pizza sat at the table in a great environment with drinks flowing through.

What is there not to say about this place.! While visiting NYC I called to see if they took walk-in a.. ", granted you know how amazing this place is a packed. It always says it's really hard to get a reservation..So they said come on in I will try to get you seated although you may have to wait a bit. Once we arrived, I'll let the hostess know. She said I'll be about 20 minutes to half hour share enough. We were seated in less than 15 minutes.. everything here was amazing one of the best meatballs and spaghetti we've had till today. The pizza was just as delicious super crispy. Great crunch nice fold nothing lacking whatsoever, Pizza done " RIGHT " ! The ambience was your typical " NYC" Italian joint... need I say more. The Carbonara and Spaghetti w/meatballs was just sensational ( Tie Dye Pizza and Cheese) were just astounding as well . The Tiramisu was the last ovation for Dinner! Wonderful Staff , very welcoming and accommodating ( CONSIDERING) we didn't have reservations. They didn't rush us and made us feel very welcomed...with no eagerness to flip our table and rush us.

My first impression of the restaurant was boy it's hot in here. I was sitting next to the AC yet was still sweating like it was a sauna. We weren't too hungry so we got half vodka half tie-dye pizza, both of which are the most popular. The pizza came out so hot that the sauce was literally runny and dripping everywhere. Somehow the crust maintained its thin crispiness. As it cooled, the sauce became thicker which was nice. I liked the vodka much more than the tie-dye. I had only just tried Scarr's pesto pizza the week before and honestly think Scarr's is better. Service was fine. I'm glad I tried the place but it's just not for me.

Here's the deal: located on iconic mulberry street this should be on every bucket list for signature NY Pizza. Inside it's loud and cramped, but everything seems to flow due to the well trained and helpful staff Meatball and calamari app definitely yummy . The pizzas were thin and crispy Reservations are not easy so plan ahead

The best pizza I've had in nyc so far. Crust is so thin and crispy I have no idea how they do it. The sauces are also absolutely delicious. Very cute shop and really good service too.

Food was ok, service was fine. Ambiance local Little Italy vibe. Pizza thin crust and could not hold volume of the toppings, fell apart, and you could not pick it up, red sauce, not very tasty. Kindly it was removed from our bill. Caesar salad listed anchovy, no anchovy, maybe anchovy in the dressing. Home made cavatelli pasta was good, small serving , though with sharing other food it was the perfect amount . Arancini was very tasty, inside was perfect combo of rice and cheese. The wait was 1.5 hours on Sunday evening before 6 pm. Not worth the wait.

A cute place card for my grad.

What a special place and amazing food! I did a lot of research trying to find the perfect place for penne alla vodka for my son during our trip to NYC. Rubirosa hit the spot. Not only did it take reservations but the server also was so attentive and awesome despite it being very busy. We got the rubirosa salad, vodka pie (small is still very big!), and vodka pasta. All were amazing and i'd want to order again. I was a little caught off guard that the house wine was $18 but I guess this is a NYC standard.

    Daisy drink, very good!

Was super looking forward to this spot but left a bit disappointed. We were able to get a walk-in shared table (bless) and were sat in the middle room by the kitchen. It was super loud and hectic, but a table nonetheless. Our server seemed like he hated his job and had a bit of an attitude at us not knowing what we wanted immediately, especially when I explained my allergies and confirmed what I could safely eat. Like I get it's more energy for you to deal with but trust me, I wish I didn't have them either. Especially as a restaurant that kind of markets itself as a good option for dietary restrictions, you'd think you wouldn't be given so much ire for having them. He also was hard to track down and left halfway through our dinner without a word as shifts changed but then we had no idea who to flag down for anything. I ended up choosing the GF DF Cavatelli rather than ragu or pizza. It was so disappointing and plain. Barely any kind of oil or sauce on it. It was basically just plain pasta with steamed veg and chunks of dry sausage. Totally should have went with ragu or pizza. My friend who is also GF DF got the hot honey pie pizza and graciously shared some--it was delicious! Definitely go that route instead. The drinks were also good, I got the Daisy cocktail and it was delicious. My friend ordered a different one by accident and didn't like it, and the server did offer her the right one free of charge. He also forgot my other friend's wine and when she asked, he was super apologetic and brought it on him. So he was kind in those respects, maybe just tired at the end of a long shift? So some good stuff, some not so great. Still a nice spot and I'd probably give it another go; would more so recommend it to non allergy people.

My friend from out-of-town loves Rubirosa, so she wanted to come here again when she was visiting for the weekend. We had a lunch reservation on a Sunday for a group of five, and we ordered the rubirosa salad, garlic knots, tie dye pizza, and a half vodka half arugula pizza to share. I'm not a big salad person, but the rubirosa salad was actually delicious! The garlic knots were really good too. As for the pizza, I was a little disappointed in the tie dye pizza. It's so hyped so I had really high expectations. My friend said that it tasted better when she had it before because it usually has more vodka sauce. You can see in the picture that our pizza had like no vodka sauce on it. The plain vodka sauce pizza was so good though, so more vodka sauce on the tie dye pizza would have really made it. Personally, I prefer a doughier crust, but I think this is a solid option if you're looking for good pizza.

    Rubirosa Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Rubirosa

    Does the pesto have nuts?

Yes. All pestos have nuts unless otherwise stated

What type of pizza would you recommend?

    Tie dye!!

    Is it pet friendly?

No. I'm not even sure I'd bring kids there when it was busy, the seating is pretty tight, wooden chairs etc.

What is best way to make a reservation?

We did through Resy, and it was easy and efficient: https://resy.com/cities/ny/rubirosa?date=2023-03-20&seats=2…

Does a cent do take out?

    I think they do.

Does anyone know if we can bring our own wine and pay a corking fee?

Hi Alex, Thank you for your question! Our current policy is you may bring a maximum of two 750ml bottles of wine for a corkage fee of $35/bottle.

Is it possible to order half portion here? I can never finish one American portion but I also don't want to waste food. Taking away is also not an option since I'm travelling.

Not that I'm aware of, but Rubirosa serves pizzas in two sizes...can always opt for the smaller one.

Does the pesto sauce on the tie-dye pizza have any nuts in it? If so, what nuts. Thanks!

    pine. lots of it

How does Rubirosa price pies that are half of one kind and half of another?

They'll charge you the cost of the more expensive half

Is there any meat in the vodka sauce?

I've had it a few times and as far as I can tell there is no meat. Don't skip out on this place as everything is incredibly delicious.

Could we have a picture of what the outdoor dining looks like?

I posted a photo in their Yelp page. I cant post a photo in this section sorry.

Do they sell by the slice during covid?

I tried getting a reservation 14 days in advance but it was a Sunday and wouldn't let me on the website or Resy app, by Monday morning at 5:30am it said it was sold out. Is this normal?

They are not open @5:30am I think they open around 10am but the place is very busy. Best time to go is during the week before 3pm

Do you need to make reservations?

Yes, definitely it's always packed here.

I know Corkage is 25 dollars but how many bottles per couple?

    Ahhh....1? 😂

Do they use a nut-free pesto?

They do put pines nuts in the pesto sauce

    Do they sell slices?

They do not but that's ok because you can get a smaller pie. It's still like 8 slices but it's smaller

What is the pizza hour?Any specials or special price?

4pm-5pm No specials or prices during that hour that I know of. You can possibly order by the slice in that hour but I'm 100 percent sure. It's pizza only 4pm-5pm.

Are they only known for pizza or pasta as well?

They're known for the pizza, but all of the food is amazing...salads, pastas, pizza...all fresh and phenomenal flavors!!

Do they have heart shaped pizza for valentine's day?

My gut tells me no but I would call the restaurant. You're getting one of the best pizzas in New York, the shape of it won't matter to your Valentine
