OMG!!! The food was out of this world! Wow! My New Orleans breakfast wasn't open yet so we came here. We had the most IMPECCABLE SERVICE! Lisa, the GM was fabulous! She extended us to sit outside since it was busy inside and they have awesome heaters. We enjoyed it! Will, our waiter was absolutely PHENOMENAL! Very attentive and educated on the menu. He provided solid recommendations. We had the fried green tomatoes to start and they were hearty and delicious! I had the catfish and grits wow! You can share! There were so many people that told us to check out this particular breakfast brunch restaurant we just had to go! Luckily at 9 AM on a Saturday morning this place was not packed!! we decided to sit at the bar and order. I got the Fosters French toast and my hubby got the omelette with fish and grits And a biscuit! Hee. The ladies that worked behind the bar were so cute and fun! They reminded me of my aunt May who's from Georgia! They were so welcoming and sweet as well as helping us pick what to get for breakfast! No trip to New Orleans is complete without stopping at a Ruby Slipper for breakfast or brunch. Ruby Slipper did originate in New Orleans, but over the years, they have expanded throughout the southeast part of the country. I come to New Orleans pretty often and it is always on the itinerary. This location is located in the Central Business District. On a recent trip, I stayed at the Sheraton which is right across the street from the restaurant. I didn't plan it that way, but it was a sign that I must stop in. With almost 7500 reviews and holding strong at an almost perfect rating speaks volumes. One thing you can count on a long wait. They are only open from 7am-2pm and it stays busy. They do have a waitlist online and I highly recommend using that option. Parking in the whole area is rough so plan accordingly. I have always walked around the city. Customer service has always been great here. You really can't go wrong with anything from Ruby Slipper. I have yet to order something I did not care for. On my visit here, I was torn between sweet and savory. My dining companion and I decided to get both and share dishes. I started off with a Creamy Vanilla Iced Coffee. It was basically a vanilla cold brew that was very good. I sipped on it since it was pricy and there wasn't refills available. Their regular coffee is solid too though and there is refills on that. We started off with some French Toast Bites. It is exactly how it sounds. Bite size pieces of brioche, fried and dusted with cinnamon. It's good on it's own but excellent paired with the cream cheese icing and praline sauce. One of their specialties are the benedicts. I can never decide on the different ones so I get the Peacemaker which allows you to pick two different one. I went with the Chicken St Charles and the Crawfish & Grits. Chicken St Charles is fried chicken on top of a biscuit instead of an English muffin. This is one of my favorites. It is topped with a delicious creamy tasso sauce and ties everything together. The crawfish and grits was just ok. I'll stick to my other favorites next time. For our sweet entrée we went with the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes. I'm a sucker for cinnamon rolls and that's basically what this was in pancake form. It is a sugar overload and I could only do a few bites. Good though. Overall, this location did not disappoint and it's clear that they are consistent no matter where you decide to visit them. I will definitely be back if in the area. read more

This was unexpected. I should have known from the long line standing out front that this establishment was more than just ambiance. My party was seated fairly quickly thanks to the online waitlist. Our server, Rosa, was VERY pleasant and accommodating. My table ordered the candied bacon, friend tomatoes as an appetizer and various mimosas of various flavors (ALL excellent. We then ordered Shrimp & Grits, The Trifecta, and the Sweet Heat Chicken & French Toast Bites. All came out very quickly and tasted beyond our imagination. I was nervous to come here after seeing the mixed reviews , but I've had RS on my to visit list from my first time in NOLA years ago so I figured it was worth finally checking them out. I thought it was just average. Service: Our server was very friendly, though sometimes a bit slow. Our drinks were delayed and it took a while to even get waters to the table. Value: All in, the total came to $73 for two entrees, two coffees, and the Bloody Mary. Pretty pricey for breakfast foods. The meals were large, but a little disappointed in how expensive it was. There was a line out the door so we had to wait for like 20 minutes to get a table but if there is a line out the door, it has to be pretty good, right? Food and drink: The food here is soul food cooked with love and plenty of calories, just the way I like it. I was at first going to get shrimp and grits but then I settled on the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes (how could I resist?) and my wife went with the biscuits and sausage gravy breakfast platter. My pancakes were awesome, very rich and decadent but not overpoweringly sweet, they struck a good balance (and no, syrup is not needed with these). My wife's southern gravy was exactly like it should be, thick and meaty with a great smoky flavor and texture. Coffee was NOLA strong, just the way I like it, but I also had to get a cocktail while here because that is what you do in New Orleans, you booze during brunch. My wife and I shared the mimosa sampler and it was just OK. Honestly, the presentation was a bit subpar and the taste of all four were too syrupy - we didn't really land on one we liked. Oh well. Service: Super-fast, friendly, and efficient. Our waitress seemed a bit rushed and it showed through on how she interacted with us but the place was really busy. We just wished she could have been a little more hospitable to our group. Price: Prices were not bad vs the amount of food you got with your meal. Portions were just right and you didn't leave hungry at all. My consensus: This is a great brunch spot to visit while in NOLA. There is a line out the door and I now know why. This is one of few times Yelpers have let me down. Maybe it was an off morning, but my experience and food were nothing as expected. (This is for the Magazine Street location.) I arrived early, about 7:15 am, to find a few tables filled. It's a cute diner atmosphere and I was excited to see a patron seated across from me really enjoying her breakfast. After a menu tour by my server, I settled on a Bennies Combo (choose any two, $17): Chicken St. Charles and Bayou Shrimp. I was suspect of shrimp for breakfast but the server said it was a favorite. Here's where the wheels fell off the bus. I waited around 30 minutes, with two server stop-bys and promises that the food was on the way. The guy behind me was seated, served and gone and I still didn't have food. I needed to get going and had expected to be gone in 45 minutes from ordering at a diner ... not left wondering why everything was taking so long. The manager came by to explain it was a scratch kitchen and they were bringing the egg poacher up to temp. Food would be out in minutes, she said. It did arrive a few minutes later, but either the poacher was up too high or I have unrealistic expectations for a poached egg. The yokes were cooked solid. Rubbery and not the least bit of run. Everything is atop a plate of wilted spinach, which looked unappealing. After a few unenjoyable bites, I asked for the check but the manager had comped the meal. Not expected since the meal was served, but appreciated because the whole thing was a mess. We stopped in to get breakfast on our way out of town heading back home to Texas. Everyone, from the hostess at the door who seated us to the two bartenders working the busy bar area, was so incredibly nice. They all had great, fun personalities and didn't seem to be bothered by how busy the restaurant was. Then there was the food! Oh my goodness! My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy, and I had the Eggs Cochon. His food was good but mine was by far the best meal we had in New Orleans and we had some amazing food while we were there. My boyfriend isn't really a fan of pork but one bite of my food and he regretted not ordering the same. I'm never able to finish a full meal so he did get to eat what I couldn't. We also tried the bananas foster French toast which was sinfully delicious. All of the food was reasonably priced as well. My husband and I went to Ruby Slipper for brunch on Sunday, November 3rd. It is still Halloween weekend, so the place was packed. (A lot of establishment was busy throughout the weekend because of Halloween, which made it difficult to do walk-in.) You can RSVP on their website by clicking on "Join the Waitlist."
