I was in the area today so I figured I'd Give Ruby's a try since they were on my "want to go" list. They are located in a small shopping center with plenty on parking in front of Rudy's. They have a shaded seating area right in front and a large shaded seating area on the left side, outside as well. Walking in I noted that they have a long seating area on the left side, inside the restaurant. On the right side the have a salsa station, their order area and you can watch them make your food as well from there. Wifey got a torta and a taco, I special ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito that came with chorizo, eggs, cheese, potatoes, guacamole, and sour cream. I held the beans and rice and added chorizo. $14 We sat inside so we could watch the U.S. Soccer game against Australia. They had like 4 tVs playing the game. (I love the atmosphere of this place, the workers were all super nice too) Ok now for the food, and the salsa bar. They have like three different red sauces, and two different green sauces, roasted jalapeños, onions, carrots, and assortment of other things. I went with both the green salsa's, one tasted like guacamole the other one I couldn't quite tell, but they were both excellent. My breakfast burrito must've weighed 2 pounds! I honestly had to stop 3/4 of the way through and wait a few minutes to finish it off. "Normally it just slides right down, lol! The flavor of the chorizo with eggs and grilled potatoes with the green sauce on top is amazing! Bottom line... if they were in my neck of the woods I'd probably eat here once a month. 5 stars all day everyday. read more

They have a Taco Tuesday special - 4 street tacos for $10! I got 2 chicken & 2 chorizo. Plenty of meat. They have a nice little salsa bar too. My group of 10 people got there at 11:15 placed our orders. You order as you walk in, so there is no need to split bills. They take your name and bring the food out. There is patio seating and a few small tables inside. A friend showed up half hour later and the line was out the door! Questionable cleanliness and food safety standards. I came here on Cinco de Mayo and ended up waiting for 30+ minutes for one burrito. While waiting, I saw someone cutting raw chicken in the back. She put the chicken on the grill, rinsed her **gloved** hands for 3 seconds, then proceeded to roll burritos. I tried to spot the manager to bring up the issue. Found him sweeping the floor and wiping the counter with gloves on, then went right back to helping the crew with prepping food. That's when I noticed most (if not all) staff "washed" their hands with gloves on, for 5 seconds max, and rarely if ever changed gloves in between tasks. read more

I was confused about the size of street tacos and regular tacos but I was surprised when I got my regular taco order to see how big they were! I actually did a taco medley of all the taco places in Sunnyvale with my friends and we all think it's the worst. The taste is bland despite that the tacos look very juicy and flavorful. I visited this spot for the first time despite passing it many many times on my rides back and forth to the Bay trail. I was happy when it opened since it was closed during the pandemic, I believe taquerias should be available in all neighborhoods. I ordered the asada super burrito to go. The cashier was friendly and brought the food out to me on my bike when it was ready. I thought the burrito was a little pricey, but you can tell by the picture it's quite large. I'll definitely get two meals out of it and probably could have gotten three if I didn't stuff myself. It was also very tasty. The beef had a good char flavor and the tortilla was packed with avocados, beans, rice and cheese. Man, I hate to rate a local place so low but the food is just terrible. I wanted to give a new place a try instead of my usual Speedy's and I am so full of regret Lengua quesadilla - Bland and soggy as hell. The outer part of the tortillas did not have any grill or char marks. This place is only a 5 minute drive from my place yet when I opened the plate at home it was already cold and congealed. The quesadilla is filled with rubbery cheese, raw onions, and the guacamole is INSIDE. The meat was so bland and had no flavor. It was so cold/gross that when I tried to take a piece off of the plate, tortilla got stuck to it. Super disappointed. Lengua tacos - Same deal. Bland meat, limp soggy tortillas. Giant chunks of raw onion instead of chopped up all nice. Fish tacos - The worst of all the three. The cole slaw is somehow sweet? This was very off putting. But most of all the fish wasn't an entire slab of fried fish, it was in the shape of cubed tator tots. It honestly did not even taste like fish and I didn't eat more than 1 bite from the tacos because I was afraid for my stomach. It was 1pm on a Thursday and there was a little bit if a wait because there was pretty much one person handling the food and ordering. The worker was trying her best, but she seem tired. They have indoor seating with tables for 2 and and larger picnic tables outdoors. Some chairs appear to be older and probably need refurbishing or need to be replaced. There were tables with menus, but no pictures. We ordered: - Horchata: was good, but there was only one regular size for about $5. - Asada Taco: Meat was okay, but could use more flavor. - Shredded spicy Chicken Taco: a little watery and eventually make the tortilla fall apart. - Chorizo Taco: Flavor was off and tasted weird. I didn't finish this one. - Pastor Nacho Fries: Orange nacho cheese sauce with guacamole, sour cream, salsa with steak fries. Al pastor did not have much flavor. Tips: - There was an old fading sign that said they have handmade tortillas, but as we were leaving I saw a pallet of pre-made tortillas being delivered...so I don't know? - Complimentary small bag of chips - There is a sign that says ONE salsa per order. They are strict with this as I saw someone who had a green sauce trade the one he got with his order for a red sauce. - No free water-- they sell bottled water only. Ruby's is great! I cannot recommend them highly enough for tacos in particular. The fillings are really flavorful and a great texture (tried the carne asada and pollo) and it's just a truly great street style taco. I have also tried their burritos and they are not only a great value but very good! I am not a huge rice in my burrito person (I am from SoCal, we are riceless burrito people there) but i still really enjoyed the burrito and it's near perfect travel food! I have also tried the red sauce enchiladas and this is where they lost me a bit. There was nothing wrong with it, but I would choose the tacos/burritos over that when I come back. The store is cute, clean, and efficient! It's very popular in the area and is next to Ruby's Panaderia, which is a TREAT! We've ordered delivery from UberEats a few times from here since the pandemic. I probably would've given them a higher rating a couple months ago, but was less pleased with our most recent order. *Bag of Chips: sounds silly, but this is my favorite thing from them! The chips taste really fresh- they are nice and thick, and just all around bad for my goal of eating less carbs... The first couple times we ordered this they gave a generous amount for $1.49, but it was much skimpier this last time. I also like getting these to make my own nachos- they're perfect for melting cheese over *Nachos: so definitely do NOT order this. I was super grossed by their Nachos. They use some gooey cheese that could've been from canned Tostitos from what I could tell, and more gooey "guacamole" that also had the appearance and taste of being canned/old. Personally for my nachos, I want to see some fresh shredded melted cheese and chunks in my guacamole that resemble fresh avocado! Again- get the Bag 'o Chips instead and make your own! * Burrito de Camaron: they make a pretty big, tasty burrito filled with rice, beans, and choice of protein. This one was a bit spicy for me which I didn't expect. * Chicken Soup (Caldo de Pollo)- I really love how tender the chicken is in this soup, and the soup base is so hearty. But at $16.99, you gotta give me more than 2 pieces of chicken! I was craving a steak quesadilla all weekend long and just had to find a place to address the need. I found this place on my drive home and gave it a shot, and definitely was not disappointed.
