Thai cuisine in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California... I came here for lunch with Chel many years ago! Did you know that there's a high population of Thai people in Hollywood? The area is called Thai Town! Parking was a bit of a challenge. I parked nearby... because I didn't want to pay to park in the lot... haha! Pad Thai and Pork Satay were yummy!
I initially tried this restaurant almost 5 years ago and the food here is just as solid. In this visit, I came with a group of 5 and our experience here was pretty good. To share, we had the following dishes: -Tom Yum Shrimp Soup: Spicy and sour in a good way. The shrimps were also juicy. -Papaya Salad: Crisp and fresh. -Pad Thai w/ Chicken: Solid and not too sweet. The noodles were cooked well. -Roasted Duck Over Rice: Good, but nothing mind-blowing. I would've loved more of a roasted feel and flavor. -Pad Prik King: A good amount of meat and flavor was good. -Sauteed Morning Glory: Honestly my favorite dish here. I loved the crisp veggies and flavor. -Beef Jerky: Surprisingly not bad. An elevated beef jerky. Everything was solid, but I've had better versions of each dish elsewhere. Nothing stands out, but this is a good standard for Thai food. The service here was really good and attentive. I appreciate the servers taking on all the requests hurled at them from the people in my group. They also helped with a water spillage. Parking can be tough since the area is popular. It's valet parking only in the lot in front of the restaurant, but you can also find some free spots around the area if you don't mind walking.
Came by during Thai New Year during the festival, so understandably, huge line as a result. We waited about 1.5 hrs but I imagine on literally any other day the line wouldn't be that long. We just put our names down, no reservation required. They did have a shorter special menu for the festival time (likely to make it easier for the kitchen) and it made ordering super fast and easy. Service was polite and quick! Pad see ew w/ an egg on top 4/5, yummy and a huge portion, I took 1/2 home to-go for an additional meal
The Parking here is nonexistent and when I say nonexistent I mean there are people forcing you to pay to park in a public parking lot. Which is ridiculous to me but LA will do anything to make some money. Nonetheless we stopped here to pick up take out since they were all booked and we didn't feel like waiting, the food was tasty but the portions and the prices aren't justified in my opinion.
Every table had a huge plate of papaya salad, if you come you must get this dish too. As most Thai restaurants, their spice scale is on a different level. I love spice and a medium was a tasty level for me. Enough to make me sweat a little without crying too hard. I could taste the yummy flavors of the sweet and tangy dressing with the fishy shrimp through the heat. Their larb was perfect with mixing with sticky rice served in a bamboo basket to keep warm.
My friends and I came here right after watching a show at the Pantages Theater. We were so fortunate to walk into a good number of empty tables so we didn't have to wait. However, as we were wrapping our dinner, all the tables were filled and we felt a bit of a push to hurry up to pay and leave. The waiter didn't say anything to push us to leave, but when you see them giving you the bill before you could finish your food or ask for it, you feel a bit pressured to eat faster. The three of us opted for family style and ordered four entrees and a side of white rice to share. We ordered the stir fried crispy catfish, the sautéed morning glory, the shrimp salad, and the pad kee mao with chicken. The total came out to be about $33.28 per person including tax and 20% tip. I think that's very reasonably priced. We also did not have to wait long at all for our food, which we were so pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a place to go if you want good Thai food and have a short meal break. We ordered and finished our food in less than an hour. We parked a few blocks away in the neighborhood. The parking situation in that plaza was a nightmare. There were cars honking and almost hitting the cars in the front or in the back. I don't live anywhere near Hollywood, but if I do come to see a show at the Pantages Theater in the future, I'll make sure to swing by again.
After one meal, this is already one of the best Thai spots I've tried in LA! Came with friends and ordered a bunch of dishes, and every single plate was ridiculously delicious. The Pad Thai was the best I've had outside of Thailand. Extremely well balanced, not too sweet, not too tangy, not drowning in sauce, just perfectly done with great noodle texture and loaded with shrimp. The Pad Kee Mao was so flavorful. Smoky, spicy, full of flavor, and had that proper "wok hei" char that makes noodles addictive. The Pad See Ew was equally rich and savory, and deeply satisfying. We also got the turnip omelette (Kai Jeow with preserved radish) and it blew my mind, honestly. It is so simple, but packed with flavor. Somehow one of the best egg dishes I've ever had. The morning glory with pork was another standout, super fresh, garlicky, and cooked perfectly. Everything came out hot, portions were generous, and the whole table went silent because the food is too good to talk through lol. On top of that, the servers were super nice, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better despite how busy it was :) Packed restaurant, amazing energy, AMAZING food. This place just ruined average Thai food for me. Already thinking about when I'm going back!!!
I really wish I can love this place but it's really disappointing. What once was known as the best Thai food in LA, is no longer the case. We got the raw shrimp salad, spicy catfish and bbq pork over rice. The raw shrimp "salad" is probably the best thing we've ate, but the chili sauce was over powering and couldn't really taste the freshness of the shrimp. And I feel like there could've been saw garlic to go along with it, but nope, just decorative cabbages that is not edible. As for the bbq pork over rice, the sausage was good and the crispy pork too. But the BBQ pork itself was HORRIBLE I literally spit it out. It tasted like old refrigerated dry meat, barely edible. And then the spicy catfish, the portion was so small, it looked like someone ate half of it. The pieces very tiny and it was so dry it tasted like it was refried. The spicy sauce didn't help much. And I overheard the table next to us waited around 30 mins for their dishes. Overall, I'll not be coming back here. There are much better Thai spots than this. Not to mention the parking is horrible as it was valet only on a Saturday.
Clearly a winner in my Michelin book for their truly Authentic Thai cuisine dishes and mouthwatering sour soups with a touch of sweetness just like in Bangkok Thailand. My favorite dish is the bbq pork because grilled hot off the grill and smells amazing with a taste that keeps you wanting more and more. Then you add the eggplant dish with is stir fried with special sauce and ground pork. Enjoy your delicious dinner with white rice and a hot cup of sweet and sour soup that is boiling hot at your table. Add Thailand beer for good measure and memorable moments in Thailand. However they ran out of mango sticky rice dessert at 09:30 pm tonight. Enjoy later at the ice cream shop next door. No worries my friend. A beautiful evening full of hungry happy people and wonderful memories for everyone to remember that you are at Hollywood Los Angeles best kept secret for over 20 years. I remember this Amazing restaurant back in the day when I was a lot younger and we loved coming here at midnight for that special occasion. Now they closed by 11:00 pm. People still be waiting in line. Parking is valet for $8 and you can check out the other businesses next door too. No rush because it's really a lovely chilly night here. Then head to your nearest venue afterwards for a great comedy show in Hollywood at the Laugh Factory close by here. Enjoy the night with this big beautiful full moon.
Came here on a Sunday night with a friend. I've been to Thaitown a couple of times and have always wanted to try Ruen Pair but there's just so many options nearby that I just hadn't gotten around to it. But I loved it once I tried it! To start, parking was easy. Valet was $5 and no issues there. You can try to park on the street but it will definitely be limited. The wait was about 45 minutes for 2. I would just make sure to wait outside. They called a lot of names while we were waiting. 2 parties of 2 in front of us were not present at the time they called their names so we ended up getting seated sooner than our waiting list number! Once we sat down, we ordered a radh na, seafood soup, and raw crab papaya salad. Everything was so good! I wasn't too impressed by the radh na as it tasted like every other place I've been to, but the soup and the papaya salad were so good! We got both of them medium spicy and the heat was perfect! The salad was very fresh and we didn't get sick from the raw crab, so that's always great! Food also came super fast. Overall, had an amazing experience and can't wait to come back!
Service was very slow but the menu had very diverse offerings. It's a good place to go to share items. A party of 4 is perfect to be able to try multiple things! Shrimp cake and bbq pork were standouts, with a very crispy texture that was also very juicy and perfectly glazed sticky meat, respectively. The papaya salad is VERY spicy and completely caught our table (and the next one over) off guard, so I would pass; otherwise the portion was huge. The pad see ew had longer noodles and less oyster sauce than I am used to. Save space for dessert a few doors down at their sister dessert location -- probably the best dessert in LA! Parking is $3 valet!

When a place opens at 2pm on a Saturday, you know this place has to be good! There is a parking lot but you have to pay (try your luck on metered street parking). Bring CASH, otherwise, they charge you a hefty 4% card fee. Also, they need to see your vaccination card so be prepared to show that. Overall, this was a solid Thai spot for all your essential Thai dishes. We got the papaya salad, pad see ew, and the pork jerky. My favorite has to be the papaya salad and pork jerky. The papaya salad I got without dried shrimp because I just don't like that salty sea flavor and it was perfect! I got mild spice and even then I thought it was a little too spicy for me. The flavors were just amazing- spicy, tangy, and salty. The pork jerky was really good, it's just basically fried pork strips that you dip into some amazing sauce! The pad see ew was just a tad too sweet for me but it had a good meat to noodle proportion. The Thai teas were really good and came in a metal cup to keep it nice and cool. Service was whatever. It wasn't spectacular nor was it so bad. However, you don't come to these spots to get service! read more

It's truly a blessing to live so close to Thai Town! There are so many amazing restaurants like Ruen Pair. The food here was delicious. My bf and I enjoyed every dish that we ordered! Here's the breakdown: 1. Pad Kee Mao: Yum! Really solid PKM, no complaints. I wish it was a little bit spicier, but nothing some chilis can't fix. I love eating this with extra crushed red pepper and the chilis soaked in fish sauce. 2. Som Tum with Raw Crab: I'm not the biggest fan of Thai style papaya salad as I prefer Lao style, but this one was pretty good! It was super umami and the raw crab was worth the extra money. 3. Fish Tom Yum Soup: Would definitely get this again! Honestly like it more than normal shrimp tom yum because you get a good amount of protein in this soup. The flavors were on point! I came here for a Friday night dinner in Thai Town with some friends and had such a great time. We decided to order a couple dishes to share family-style because: a) the menu is extensive/we really couldn't decide what to get and b) the iconic red steamed rice pot was calling our names. Here's the rundown of what we ordered: Chicken Satay - Great plate to share with friends. The chicken was juicy for chicken breast meat and the peanut sauce was fire. Pad Thai - Literally a staple and was probably the best pad thai I've had in a while. This gets an 11/10. Pad See Ew - The noodles were perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Definitely one of the better pad see ews I've had. Larb - This was my first time trying larb and it wasn't my favorite thing to be honest. The sauce was way too acidic for my taste, but my friends really enjoyed it. Beef Ball Noodle Soup - This was kinda bland and reminded me more of pho with too much bean sprout and less spice. We'll have to try the Thai boat noodle soup next time. Thai Tea - Refreshingly sweet and the perfect pairing for dinner. Served with crushed ice in a chilled metal mug. Just FYI, they accept credit cards now. And as for parking, there aren't too many options aside from doing valet in these smaller Thai Town lots. The price was pretty reasonable though and really takes the stress/guesswork out of the equation when you're craving Thai food. Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu! read more

Ayo! Finally getting to try Ruen Pair from my Thai Town bucket list and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. There is a reason why it's on the top of list for Thai Food on Yelp. Every single dish was amazing, but the Soup and the BBQ Pork were the stand outs for me. We waited max 5-8 min for a table, you have to sign in on list and wait outside. Service was so fast, they had food out in less than 5 min once Beverages were dropped. Thai Iced Coffee was refreshing. Service staff was very nice. They have a parking lot but you have to Valet. Restaurant gives you a validation ticket to get a discount. I will be coming back soon! read more

We had a really disappointing experience here. We ordered our food medium spicy, but the restaurant clearly decided to tone everything down--likely because my partner is white. It felt insulting, as if they assumed we couldn't handle any spice. The tom yum soup was the worst part. It came out clear, with no red hue or any of the usual flavors that make tom yum what it is. When we asked the waitress about it, she tried to gaslight us by insisting, "That's how we make it here in my restaurant." I am actually Thai and also a regular customer so I know that is not true. The table next to us had a tom yum soup that looked and smelled exactly like the traditional version--completely different from what we got. We ordered three dishes in total, and all of them were bland, with barely a hint of spice. It felt like we were being served a watered-down, Americanized version of Thai food, despite clearly requesting medium spice levels. We couldn't even bring ourselves to eat the tom yum soup. I hate to complain but I tried asking for them to remake it and they declined. We've always ordered takeouts here with no issues. Really disappointing and frustrating experience. Ruen Pair is probably one of the few places you can get authentic Thai food. It's situated in a small plaza, with extremely limited parking especially during peak time. I recommend trying to find street parking. I went on a Sunday at around 6:00 PM and there was already a big line ahead of us. Keep in mind that they don't have much space inside, so you're going to have to wait for a bit especially during peak hours. We ended up ordering the papaya salad, beef pad kee mao, and BBQ chicken. The papaya salad is probably one of the best ones I've had in LA. It has a nice combination of tanginess and saltiness from the fish sauce topped with those crunchy peanuts! The pad kee mao was delicious as well. I wish it was a bit spicier, but the chili condiments are there for that purpose! The beef was also super tender and they don't skimp on it. The BBQ chicken was nothing special, just your standard Thai chicken. Next time, I would probably skip out on the chicken and order another dish. Overall a really great Thai spot. read more

Big Thai food fan here. My friend had raved about Ruen Pair, and it was indeed very tasty. We came in on a Saturday around dinner time, and there was surprisingly just a very short wait. Once we were seated, things moved quick. The waitresses were very persistent about taking our order ASAP, but refused to answer some questions we had about the menu. I was feeling a little overwhelmed so we ended up going with a staple -- the Pad See Ew, as well as something the lady at the table next to us recommended -- the Crispy Pork Morning Glory. Both dishes came out promptly and I really enjoyed the crispy pork in the Morning Glory dish, paired with the crunchiness and freshness of the water spinach. The Pad See Ew tasted as expected -- nothing too special in my opinion but still yummy. Overall, solid spot in Thai town. I do think I've been to a few places that were more standouts for me, but the menu here is incredibly expansive so there's bound to be something for everyone, and they got a lean but effective operation going. read more

Tried a variety of dishes with a large group. Didn't get a chance to take much pics since we were so hungry, but it was a nice visit. Overall a solid 4.5/5 All their noodle dishes were great - I.e pad Thai, pad see ew, and rad nah (my fav since their gravy was very delicious). I will say that the chicken is not that great and not a recommended protein since it's just dry breast. Texture wasn't nice in soup either since boiled chicken breast is never that enjoyable. In the Tom kha soup we got, it was a bit flavorless this round which was disappointing for my friends who were huge huge fans of this place and called it their favorite Thai spot and usually say the soup is awesome but might just be an off day. Tried their famous fried shrimp cakes which are HUMONGOUS but it's worth and you get a nice sauce to dip. Reminiscent of Japanese katsu in a way. I also really enjoyed their raw shrimp Salad and would try the raw crab one too. I will say medium was super spicy and it is a bit salty (the salad helps) and would get mild next time because I was on fire after 1 shrimp. I've never see. These dishes in other Thai restaurants to it was nice to try and I can see why they are unique. Their papaya salad serving is huge! I am not the biggest fan, but it is a Thai restaurant staple. Also got to try the beef jerky app and yellow curry - both great as well. Might just stick to noodles and apps but overall a great spot in Thai Town and within the same plaza is an awesome Thai dessert shop! Good Thai food that reminds us of Thailand. The flavorful morning glory was stir fried with likely broth, fish sauce, and some bean sauce. The crispy shrimp cake had a tangy sweet sauce. The stewed pork leg over rice was slow cooked to tenderness, had lightly pickled Chinese veggies, and a Thai chili sauce that tied everything together wonderfully. The service was kind and fast. Who should come here: If you enjoy Thai food. We always gravitate towards this place every time we're in this plaza despite it having tons of other restaurants. What I got: We've been here a few times so we've tried a few dishes. Duck curry, spicy eggplants, Chinese broccoli, Pad Thai, etc. I like the duck curry but always ask for limes to add some extra sourness to it. My friend really likes their spicy eggplant. Note, there is only ice cream options for dessert. During lunch, I love going to the little market across the plaza and getting their mango sticky rice there! When to go/where it is: It is definitely busy during meal times so know that there might be a bit of a wait during those times. It's located next to several Thai plazas with valet only parking (if you're dining in). How the service was: Pretty typical for Asian places where they let you be after they take your order and bring out the food. But if you ever need anything they're more than willing to stop by and provide which is great! read more

Wow this place is epic!! If your looking for delicious Thai food in Los Angeles... look no further!! Had the papaya salad with salted crab and it was epic. Split the bbq beef over rice and the Pad Kae Mao (sp?) spicy flat noodle with chicken and both were fantastic!! Cheap parking out front ($5 valet for three hours), friendly service, cold Sing-ha beer and outstanding Thai food! This place is great!! read more

Came to try this place on July 4th while there's no traffic from OC and everything was delicious! We showed up at 4pm when they opened and the restaurant filled up pretty quickly! The papaya salad was very good with a kick! We ordered mild and it's so spicy! Another dish we enjoyed a lot is the pork jerky... the sauce that go with it is so good! After we left Universal Studios, we decided to pick up dinner from here. We ordered stew pork leg over rice, crab fried rice and cha-po over rice. I thought the stew pork leg was good but the meat portion wasn't enough to finish the rice with. The rice that was used for the crab fried rice was soggy and it lacked crab meat. As for the cha-po over rice. The meat were dry and without the sauce, there wasn't any flavor to the dish. We came in a Sunday and there wasn't any street parking available. I've heard good things about this place but it's just ok. I had the Thai boat noodle. It tastes very cinnamony, and a lot of meat gunk in the soup. And the noodle itself is hard and unflavored (I got the flat noodle) We also got papaya salad and bbq pork as appetizers. They're fine. If you're in the neighborhood, it's not the worst place to eat. I've been trying a bunch of restaurants in Thai Town to find the best Thai food. I've been to a few and this is what I can say. Not the best I've tried, but definitely good! There wasn't a long wait and I got some staple items. I always want to try the pad see ew, chicken satay, and a curry when I visit a new Thai place. Just to feel it out. Chicken Satay: My least favorite. Lacking flavor and did not have any type of char. The peanut sauce wasn't special/as creamy as I like. Pad see ew: Awesome! One of the better ones I've had! Egg with Salted Turnip: First time trying this at a restaurant. Super bomb!!! Would definitely recommend. Red curry: It was ok. Their spicy level is quite tame here, mild wasn't spicy. I had lived in the neighborhood for years but didn't try Ruen Pair until I moved away and during the pandemic. I remembered it being good, so returned earlier this week to pick-up dinner after a hike to the observatory. OMG! Why hadn't I tried and ate here like every other day when I was within walking distance? Why hand't I returned sooner? I ordered their BBQ Pork, Pad Prik King with chicken and rice to go... I am a bit picky when it comes to green beans, but their Pad Prik King with tons of green beans were out of this world delicious with just the perfect amount of heat. Their BBQ Pork? I nearly ate the whole dish in one sitting. That good! I've not eaten at the restaurant, always takeout, but the service has been prompt and efficient when I ordered. Love the food here! The catfish is really tasty, if you top it with the spicy sauce it goes well with the steam rice. The pork jerky is tender and the sour/spicy sauce pairs well with the meat. Service is speedy. The place is busy but food arrive quickly. Waitress can offer suggestions if you are confused what to order. She gave popular dish that people like to order from this place. Price is reasonable. We came at 6:15pm and 5 minutes later all tables were occupied, and it's only Tuesday night! Parking is only valet in the strip mall $6 or $6.75 if you use credit card. If I come to LA again I would come back and try their diff dishes. read more

I have tried Ruen Pair multiple times and each visit is a hit or miss. Sometimes the food are cooked well, sometimes they are over cooked! Last night, we had a chance to dine in (fully vaccinated) and the food was amazing!!! They were cooked to perfection and very much to our liking. We ordered pad kee mao with pork, combination fried rice, and morning glory! Every dish was on point and we were really glad!!! The pad kee mao noodles were done right, not hard or soggy! Perfect! The fried rice was good as well, although I may want to try another dish at the next visit. The morning glory was wonderful! My absolute favorite! Staff was nice and friendly! We were seated immediately! Food came out quick and hot! Valet parking is needed but it's only $3! No validation from the restaurant! Overall, a great dinner after a long day!!! If you're in the area, highly recommend this place although I would prefer dining over take out for this sweet spot though! read more

Decided to go on a Thai town adventure. Ruen pair has been on our list for awhile. We have always wanted to try the raw shrimp salad. We weren't starving so we grabbed a couple things - the raw shrimp salad and the seafood soup. Here are things we loved: - The seafood soup comes with clams, squid, muscles and shrimps - The raw shrimp salad was so fresh and the sauce is bomb. Spicy but delicious. (Try putting the raw shrimp over rice with some cabbage on top. What are the best Vegan dishes to order here?
They can do most of the dishes vegan style. You can ask the staff for suggestion. Personally, I like morning glory vegan style. ( no fish sauce)
Do they have gluten free options?
Yes, they do. You may ask them staffs for suggestions. As I know so far papaya salad, tom yum soup, tom kha soup and curries are gluten free.
Does the fish sauce you use contain shellfish?

Yes, they have just reopened. :) Their hours are 11am - Midnight daily.
Are there any vegan options?
Yes, you can veganize the major rice noodle dishes like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Khee Mao by asking for mixed vegetables, no egg, and no fish sauce. They'll happily comply. Also, you can order vegetable fried rice no egg, which is really good too.
I'm driving to this place all the way from Santa Monica for their Tom Yum Soup, is this worth the 45 min drive?
It's good and they are very authentic, but Thai places in Thaitown are known for their individual great dishes. The green papaya salad is the claim to fame for Ruen Pair. I enjoy the noodles here too. But always get green papaya salad. Cash only.…
Anyone have an idea how they make their papaya salad? I've been trying to mimic their recipe but nothing comes close. Maybe they brine the papaya or add vinegar?
Try getting a job there and learn how to make it or look online for a recipe.
How much is valet parking?
Valet parking from Monday thru Friday starts at 5 pm and is usually $2-3 for 1.5 hrs. On Saturday and Sunday it is valet all day.
